#E3v2 wild temperature fluctuation when printing.

While printing PLA at 200C, temp varies between 194-206 and sometimes jumps by 3 degrees.

just replaced the thermistor and did a PID tune. It was acting this way before the new thermistor, so I thought it was the old thermistor. Then it started acting like that again. So I did a PID tune after forgetting to do it. PID tune with 7 cycles, set the new values, saved them, started printing, same shit.

Then I boiled some tapwater, shoved the thermistor in, showed 104C stable, with 1 degree drops to 103.

I am thinking my mainboard is faulty at this point, I still will try a firmware update, and print test again, maybe the screw was too tight holding the thermistor.

AI Help

It sounds like you have already taken some good troubleshooting steps. Trying a firmware update is a good next step to rule out any software issues. If the problem persists, it is possible that there could be a problem with the mainboard. Do check that the thermistor is securely in place and not being squeezed too tightly by the screw. If you continue to experience temperature fluctuations after taking these steps, it may be worth contacting the manufacturer for further assistance or considering a replacement mainboard.

is it affecting your prints?

your thermistor might be in the wrong place

#

i just replaced my e3v2 hotend with a volcano hotend, and when i was transferring the thermistor it gave a warning that the temp was too high

#

all i had to do was reposition the thermistor and it works fine

had to replace the PSU on my E3 at some point, too. MeanWell LRS350-24 is reasonably cheap and good quality

Also is there even any other option than MeanWell? iirc they were the "proper" PSU manufacturers (excluding custom PSU ODM's)
