So I'm printing a skull right now and there are a lot of supports in the mouth area, and ofc the printer does all the supports first and then the skull itself.
Only issue is when it goes from the jaw to the head it makes an awful clunk as the nozzle clips the top of the supports it just printed to get to the other side of the actual print.
I know it's probably fine and it hasn't affected the print yet and I know it'll be fine once it gets over the top of the mouth but the sound itself is not the sound you want to hear out of a piece of machinery like that and it can't be good for the health of the nozzle in the long term.
Even if it's a way to go like, outside supports, actual print, inside supports or vice versa I'd be fine with that too.
I know on flatter prints it'll prevent that drag line that sometimes happens too
#Is there a setting to prevent the printer running over what it's already printed for that layer?

It sounds like you are experiencing nozzle collisions with the supports during the print. Here are a few tips to help with this issue:
-
Increase the Z-axis lift between layers: Increasing the Z-axis lift between layers can give more clearance between the nozzle and the support structure. This can help reduce the chances of the nozzle colliding with the supports.
-
Change the support structure design: You can redesign the supports to have a less steep angle or increase the distance between the supports and the actual model. This can help reduce the likelihood of collisions during printing.
-
Use different support settings in your slicer software: Some slicer software allows you to customize support settings. You can try adjusting the support density, pattern, or angle to see if it helps reduce collisions.
-
Consider using breakaway supports: Breakaway supports are designed to be easily removed by hand once the print is finished. This can avoid the nozzle collisions with the ...
I have an Anycubic Kobra and I use Cura to slice but happy to learn Prusa, currently printing with PLA at 200c nozzle and 60c bed temps. I haven't done anything yet to fix this as it is midway through print so I don't wanna mess with it. It's only the occasional clunk too
I remember seeing something in the slice settings like Z-hop when retracted, would that solve that issue?

There should be a setting to in cura to avoid printed objects and supports when travelling. The nozzle would just travel around the print.
Good luck finding it.
I'll have a look! Thank you
