I have an Ender 3 and I’m struggle to do my first print. I’m getting a lot of webbing and uneven surfaces

It sounds like you might need to adjust your printer's settings. Try adjusting the retraction distance and speed to reduce webbing. Also, make sure your bed is properly leveled to get an even first layer. Experiment with different temperatures for your nozzle and bed to see which combination works best for your filament.

what are your retraction settings and how are you leveling the bed it looks unlevel

I use the paper method for leveling 😅

#

Not sure what my retraction settings are I’ll need to check cura

#

And for some reason I keep getting the center lower than the corners

You can also try to do the paper test again, but get the nozzle to grip the paper tighter. I think it’s too high. And remember to do it with the bed heated up, so thermal expansion doesn’t throw it off

I don’t know how to describe it tbh… Not so tight that it doesn’t move, but tighter than “just barely brushes the nozzle”. At the very least you want to feel some resistance

What am I looking for when live leveling?

Also remember to keep doing the test until you stop tweaking it. Each time you turn one knob, the others can shift a little; so you have to recheck them

Are you live leveling a z offset, or turning the bed’s knobs while it prints?

I’m turning the knobs while printing

Ah, yeah that’ll be a little tricky; but the principle still applies

#

Oh and use printer paper. Notebook paper is too thin and imo not quite textured enough to give good tactile feedback

Weird… what happens if you print the test in a corner?

quasi briar

I didn’t know I could do that lol

Maybe the center is sunken in a lot, and the corners are just right?

quasi briar
#

That’s what it seems like

One thing you can do, and actually I tried to do this a few days ago myself, is print a little 30cm square layer right above each screw and live level each corner while it’s printing there. You still have to do the paper test first to get it close, and you have to repeat the print until you stop adjusting. But that should work really well

#

If the center is sunken in, you can compensate by putting a few strips of aluminum foil under the sunken spot. You’ll need to relevel, but it should lift the area up a bit

I’ll give it a try tomorrow. Been doing this for a few hours and I’m gonna take a break

Thank you for your help
