I have a elegoo Neptune 2 printer, it has a bl touch auto leveling system installed. I very recently figured out how to make cura slicer use that bl touch data in the start G code using ( M420 s1 ) after the g28 line, since then I have had perfect first layer prints but then I have noticed imperfections through the print ( See images 4 thru 8) at layer changes I get little blobs of pla here and there through the print and the lines don't look great
I'm confused as to what might be causing this. Am I printing to fast or not enough retraction at layer change
I've had this printer for over a year now but have always had issues getting prints to start correctly until I figured out that start g code for the bl touch
Any help would be greatly appreciated

AI Help

Based on the information provided, it seems that you are experiencing imperfections such as blobs and poor line quality during layer changes. Here are a few potential causes and troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Print Speed: High print speeds can sometimes cause issues during layer changes. Try reducing the print speed to see if that improves the results.

  2. Retraction Settings: Inadequate retraction can lead to blobs and strings. Ensure that your retraction settings are properly configured in your slicer software. Experiment with increasing the retraction distance and/or speed.

  3. Z-Hop: Enabling the Z-hop feature in your slicer can help reduce stringing and collisions during layer changes. This lifts the nozzle slightly during non-printing moves, minimizing the chance of dragging or smearing the filament.

  4. Nozzle Temperature: Check that your nozzle temperature is appropriate for the filament you are using. Printing at too high or too low temperatures can cause issues wit...

just tried reprinting it after adjusting the retraction distance from 6mm/s to 10 mm/s
and i turned on retraction at layer change and this is what how it printed
any thoughts??

I would hazard a guess that the increased retraction caused it to jam when it had to retract to cross the gap made by the hole.

#

the cross is rounded at the ends? just bad overhang performance, could be too slow, not enough cooling

Hello @flint crown here is the coin holder STL file
i am using Ultimaker Cura 5.2.2 for the most part i try not to change anything from the defult settings for my neptune 2 printer but the AI response said to try adjusting the retraction when i did try and got worse results so back to defult i go

#

so maybe to much retraction dist then?

flint crown
#

I would say so. This is probably the best the printer will do unless you make some hardware changes, or changes to the STL. the small hole is basically a couple small posts, it's coming out just like the STL

.

flint crown
#

that one would be the "too much retraction"

torpid crypt
#

the hole i am okish with
my biggest issue is the layers are not staying together

#

ok that i can fix easy

#

what could be causing all the blobs in the first few pics ?

flint crown
#

this stuff? bit fuzzy pic to see clearly. could be over/underextrusion, damp filament, temp too high. seeing the issue clearer would help

did you have stringing with it and already clean it up?

torpid crypt
#

i am printing at 200 c nozzle temp and 60 C bed temp its a silk PLA fillament the roll say 190 to 230 nozzel temp

and yeah there was a bit of stringing in the middle

flint crown
#

did you try a temp tower to determine where your printer actually does well? the suggestions on rolls are bad for my printer, always way below. 200-220 is usually 185 for me. too hot would cause the clogging (from too retraction), and usually stringing. Stringing means stuff is getting dragged out of the nozzle, that would normally go into being the walls, and could cause the small voids.

torpid crypt
#

i have not tried a temp tower
where could i find a good file to try
do you run your fans at 100% during printing or at a lower speed

flint crown
#

superslicer has a built-in option for it, that sets it up and everything... I run them max 80%, but that's because it's dual 5015 overkill

#

overhang = lots of fan

torpid crypt
#

i will have to run a tower and find the best temp then,
and thank you for all your help on this
i currently have another coin holder printing its about half done and it seems to be coming out great i turned down the temp mid print and can see a difference already
thank you again have a good day or night where ever you are at

yeah np, same!
