I needed a new motor and was told to purchase a new 42-40 motor for the extruder. the one that came in today has a much longer shaft and is d shaped. did they send me the wrong motor?

AI Help

It is possible that you were sent the wrong motor. The dimensions and specifications of the motor should match the original one in your extruder. I recommend contacting the seller or manufacturer to clarify the issue and get a replacement if necessary. They should be able to assist you further.

looks like the numbering is just the physical dimensions of the actual motor, and doesn't guarantee any other characteristics. you'd have to check the listings for one that matches your setup.

It may be fine, and you just need a gear that has a bolt for tightening, like the pic, which is what the D-shape is there for, to give a flat spot to tighten the bolt to.

The one you have is most likely press-fit, which is hard to remove (and install on new motor) anyway, without the proper tool. the extra shaft length won't matter with the stock extruder.

the new gear that came with the full metal extrusion kit looks like those, but has 2 of those black tab things on it

those black tab things are the bolts, you use an allen wrench to loosen/tighten them

#

makes it easy to change them, unlike the stock one (this is an upgrade)

#

so, it sounds like you have everything you need

so the d-shape is irrelevant as is how long the metal rod?

robust basin

d-shape, yes. length, depends on the extruder. the stock one, doesn't matter

#

some need you to put the motor in it, won't work there eg: BMG

im just using the all metal version of the stock parts, but needed a new motor for it since i cant get the worn gear off of the stock one

then yeah, it'll just stick out the top further, as long as it doesn't hit any moving parts (should be pretty far from gantry) not an issue
