I have 2 Ender-5 S1 printers and a Sonic pad that I have hooked up to one of them effectively. Since setting up the second one with the Sonic Pad, the hotend cooling fan hasn't been working properly. It doesn't turn on while preheating the printer or during the prints, even when the sonic pad says it is running. The odd part is that it does turn on at other times, for example, during the assisted manual leveling step it was running the entire time. It also turned on once as soon as I stopped a print, but I haven't seen that happen again. It also doesn't work on the stock firmware anymore, which is concerning. Looking for any help I can get.
#Hotend cooling fan not working after installing Sonic Pad.

AI Help
It seems like there might be an issue with the hotend cooling fan on your second Ender-5 S1 printer. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
-
Check the connections: Ensure that the fan is properly connected to the appropriate pins on the motherboard. Double-check all the wiring connections to eliminate any loose connections or cable damage.
-
Test the fan: You can try connecting the hotend cooling fan directly to a different power source to see if it spins properly. This will help determine if the fan itself is faulty.
-
Firmware settings: Make sure that the firmware settings for the second printer are correctly configured. Check if there are any specific settings related to the cooling fan that need to be enabled or adjusted.
-
Firmware update: If the hotend cooling fan doesn't work on the stock firmware, it might be worth considering updating the firmware to the latest version. This could potentially resolve any software-related issues.

Hmm, doesn't work on the stock hints to a deeper issue
Can you just plug it into a 12/24v with no control on the board?
To test
Sorry I'm an electronics noob, do you mean disconnect the fan from the board and hook it up to a power source?
Yeah or another open port on the board that has a fan that is just always on
Might be easier
Or unplug the fan for the motherboard if that always runs
There's a smaller board on the tool head for the fans and heat elements. There's no open ports but I could swap it with the part cooling fan to test it.
@haughty rune I did what I wrote above and it works perfectly fine in the port for the part cooling fan.
Klipper with the sonic pad
OK, plug it back into the port it's supposed to be and tell it to turn on the interface on 100%
Then slowly down the percentage speed and see where it stops
Wait a sec between each 5% to see if it stays on
There's no controls for the hotend fan on the pad, only the part cooling fan. There's just an indicator for when its on. Is there a way to control it by sending commands with the console?
Oh sorry I thought it was the part cooling fan we where talking about
Yeah I guess if you heat it up to 200c it should turn on
The hotend that is 😆
Yeah I've tried multiple times and it doesn't, not even during prints.
Yeah that's bad, it's a miracle the prints worked
OK, so we will turn it around, put another fan or the part cooling fan into the slot of the hotend fan and turn on the heat and see if that turns on
So we know if it's hard or software going wrong here
Same thing is happening with a different fan in the port
Ok, so the command to turn it on doesn't get sent, or it's too low pwm to turn it on.
But what doesn't make sense is that the stock FW now also does this
This could mean the board itself is faulty, but then again it sometimes does turn on
This doesn't exclude the board itself at fault here, but it's strange
Can share your Klipper config?
Or does the pad hide that, don't have this hardware
its actually not turning on at all anymore. Maybe it was slowly starting to fail and now its completely gone.
I have the .bin file for the firmware, do you want that?
OK I guess it's the board then, is there another open port by any chance?
there's no more on the tool head board, but I can open up the printer and check the main board
Oh, f there is a tool head board as well ofc, so we don't know if that's broken or the main one
Does this look correct?
Should be of a ender 3 s1
I'd try to get creality support on this one, see if they will send you a new board.
yeah it looks like that with a few small differences
there's no ports on the main board that are the right size for the fan
I'll try Creality support. They sent me a new hotend once so maybe they'll be nice again. The printer is technically out of the 3 month spare parts warranty though.
