#Bambu Studio - How can I create a custom support for a vertical surface?

I’ve got a flap on a model that needs a vertical support to keep it from moving during the print.

I have tried many different support settings to give this vertical surface a support.

Is there a way to do this?

Yes, there are a few ways you can add vertical support to the flap on your model to prevent it from moving during the print. Here are a couple of options to consider:

  1. Manual Support Structures: Most slicing software allows you to manually add support structures where needed. You can place vertical support pillars or walls along the edge of the flap to provide the necessary stability. Experiment with different support densities and spacing to achieve the desired outcome.

  2. Custom Supports: Consider using specialized support generation tools available in some slicing software. These tools allow you to create custom support structures specific to your model's needs. They can provide vertical support exactly where required, giving you greater control over the printing process.

Remember to review your slicing software documentation for precise instructions on how to create custom supports or manually place them.

Have you used the support paint button and paint on supports?

I don't know if there is a way to custom generate your own supports. Plan B I think, make your own support in CAD and import it

disable remoev small overhangs

and do tree strong

I didn't add a support

Also change the threshold angle to 25

#

Side note, this is unrelated but for Top Z distance and Bottom Z dist, change to 0.3
"Support/object xy distance" change to 1.0

#

You'll have better looking prints doing that

It defaults to 30 degrees but I keep it at 25.
For the CAD question, you can probably just whip something up in Tinkercad. I don't know what your print looks like so I can't really comment how easy it will be.

Oh because it's perfectly verticle, I'm not 100% sure on the manual part. I'm at work so I cannot check. Is there a reason why it needs support?

This is the full part. I was hoping that Bambu Studio had a way to add manual support

torpid current
#

It should not need support

The flaps moved during the last print and spaghettid on top

#

I gave them brims and they still moved

torpid current
#

Then that's a problem with the print or your bed needs to be cleaned

robust canopy
#

Its a very thin contact point to the bed vs the size of the flap

#

This is layer 1

I would definitely do a full bed clean with soap and water

so much brim 😐

I printed a 2mm thin lithophane last night and had zero issues with it moving

Would you use gluestick on the Bambu Cool Plate?

torpid current
#

Yes but if you do a full clean, don't need it

Good to know

Warm water, dish soap, dry with paper towel. Don't touch with fingers.

Would a G10 plate do a better job here?

I've never used one before. I got 1000 hours on the PLA plate

#

This was done last night. 2mm wide

#

No movement

Ill go scrub the plate

Thank you for all the info!

No worries. Good luck. Plate should look brand new when you clean it. Clean all residue and don't use glue for a few days
