#How to fix first layer?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Based on the provided information, it appears that your first layer is not adhering properly to the bed. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix the issue:
-
Leveling the bed: Ensure that your bed is leveled accurately. You mentioned using auto bed leveling, but it's always a good idea to double-check the manual leveling. Make sure the nozzle is at the optimal distance from the bed.
-
Bed temperature: Check if the bed temperature is suitable for the filament you're using. Different filaments require different bed temperatures for better adhesion. Refer to the filament manufacturer's recommendations for the correct temperature.
-
Bed surface preparation: Clean and prepare the bed surface properly. Make sure it's free from any debris, oil, or residue that may hinder adhesion. Some users find success with using adhesion aids like glue sticks, hairspray, or painter's tape.
-
Filament flow and extruder calibration: Ensure that your filament is feeding smoothly w...
Pretty sure your z-offset is much too low
then why is it good everywhere else?
Define "everywhere else" where is it actually okay? Like I guess the top left corner would look okay if it wasn't for the outside line having virtually no filament because it couldn't put any out since it was so close
Auto leveling does not set z-offset.
If you have knobs you might need to adjust the corners a bit but you are definitely too low IMO
the corners are blue, which i thought is what its supposed to be
the very center also seems fine
those areas also print well on regular prints
but with those 2 black spots the nozzle is in the bed, which is too low
I mean just because there's some manner of filament doesn't mean it's fine.
It definitely has leveling knobs, you can take all the corners a bit down if they are higher than the middle.
But you still need the nozzle further up most likely for the middle
I've been using the leveling knobs
the auto bed leveling doesn't seem to work
it changes it but it just makes it worse
how do I tell when its correct?
Make sure you load your bed mesh in your start gcode.
hm how do i do that
So this is where I'm out of my element but I think you do the paper z-offset in the middle, then move your print head in the corners and do it there and with the paper you will feel if there is more or less space and you adjust until it's pretty close to what the middle is.
Definitely... look up a tutorial or something
G90 ; use absolute coordinates
M83 ; extruder relative mode
M140 S{first_layer_bed_temperature[0]} ; set final bed temp
M104 S{first_layer_temperature[0]} ; set final nozzle temp
M190 S{first_layer_bed_temperature[0]} ; wait for bed temp to stabilize
M109 S{first_layer_temperature[0]} ; wait for nozzle temp to stabilize
G28 ; home all axis

G1 X2.0 Y2.0 F3000
G1 Z0.28 F240

ithis is start gcode
M420 S1 after G28
This loads the last created mesh
what does it do without that
Also set the z offset correctly
since I did this test and auto levelled and did it again and everything was different
but worse
It doesn't load the created mesh so it doesn't compensate
but why did it change then
I'll re-slice the test and re-auto level and try again though
Because you played with the knobs I assume
also do z-offset
Your printer has hopefully a menu entry for guiding you through the z offset setting
when I use the paper thing it is extremely high
most likely because the nozzle has a lot of plastic on it
Clean that then
I mean 1: clean the nozzle but 2: the paper is only a rough guide. But you don't have to do the paper again honestly, you are... at a place I guess just go higher and slowly dial it in.
if I turn off the printer and turn it on do I have to re-auto level
Like pick something go like... .1 higher and try again and adjust fromthere
or is the bed mesh saved
@serene cape adding that to the G-Code didn't do anything
now when I auto levelled the right side of the bed is so far away its printing in the air and the left side is printing into the bed
Z offset...... if your z offset isn't right the best mesh is not going to work.
If you save your settings no, if not yes
If you don't save the mesh it can't be loaded
it doesnt have an option to save mesh
theres just a big level button on the main screen
its the default marlin firmware
Printed another after many hours of tuning
I think it’s the best it’s gonna get
Might just get a new printer
I’m so sick of dealing with bed issues on a printer i bought with the intention of having auto bed leveling
Should I get Ender 3 V3 KE or Elegoo Neptune 4?

"store settings" or something, I don't know your printer.

i asked there but they ignored me twice 😭
Did you use the suggested format?
What FDM Printer Should I Buy?
Use the #✅|what-printer-should-i-buy if you're looking to buy a printer and seeking advice as to which.
Please provide the following info to help us help you decide:
• Your budget and country of residence
• Do you want to print special filaments? (flexible, high temperature resistance, high strength...)
• Do you want a kit or a mostly assembled machine?
• Are you willing to change parts on it and modify it to make it better? Or do you want something that is better out of the box? (More expensive)
• What size of printer do you require? (sizes go from 120x120x120mm to 350x350x400mm on average. anything bigger is often not viable)
• Are there any special features you want? (quieter operation, enclosure, etc)
Some printers are reviewed on the printers spreadsheet!
You should probably adjust your expectations on what you'll get for your money and do some research on what you want to do with a 3D Printer.
Then you can ask more refined questions about peoples recommendations and experiences.
No one will do all the lifting for you.
