I've been trying for the past 3 hours to put the filament into this new printer but I can't get it to extrude.
It's a SV06 plus

I make sure everything's tightened down and all that, I snip the filament a an angle, stick it in the feed hole and try turning the little wheel like the instructions say and then just nothing happens. The filament refuses to feed, nothing comes out the extruder, and it's driving me crazy.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulty with your SV06 Plus printer. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check the filament: Ensure that you're using the correct filament diameter and type recommended for your printer. Also, make sure the filament isn't tangled or damaged.

  2. Verify the extruder temperature: Ensure that the extruder is heated up to the appropriate temperature for the filament you're using. The temperature settings can usually be adjusted from the printer's control panel or software.

  3. Clean the nozzle: There might be a blockage in the nozzle preventing the filament from extruding properly. Heat the extruder to the recommended temperature, then use a small cleaning tool, such as a thin needle or unclogging tool, to clear any debris from the nozzle.

  4. Check the feeding mechanism: Make sure the filament sensor, feed gears, and tensioning system are all correctly assembled and functioning properly. If any part appears to be loose or ...

So as far as filament goes, I'm literally trying to use the filament the thing came with and I've never even gotten the thing to extrude yet.

flat python
#

You didn't tighten it too much did you?

#

It could be not feeding at all if it's too tight, or if something else is wrong it could be going around the gear and getting stuck

#

Also you can push the tension lever and put the filament through a little

icy wharf
#

I've tried opening it to be sure and what seems to be happening is that the filament doesn't fit through the hole the gears are meant to be pushing it down through. I've tried using the little cleaning things to make sure it's not blocked or anything like that but there don't seem to be any blockages.

As for tightening things down too much, I've done my best to make the lever tight but loose enough that if you pull it you can still free the filament with ease.

flat python
#

uhh no offense but the nozzle is hot right?

icy wharf
#

Well, it SAYS it's hot at least.

flat python
#

Stupid question but just making sure

#

Ok

#

Do you have pics

icy wharf
#

and when I poked some filament against it, it DID melt a bit

#

but not as much as it feels like it should have.

flat python
#

what temp does the screen say

icy wharf
#

195c

flat python
#

yeah that's high enough

nimble oxide
#

I'm assuming its a brand new printer?

icy wharf
#

Yep

flat python
#

I have an sv06+ but I didn't have trouble with that

icy wharf
#

I read and re-read the instructions to make sure I didn't miss something.

nimble oxide
#

Or does it stay as a clean cut

icy wharf
#

It rounds out a bit, but , which is to say, it still has a point, but it no longer has sharp edges.

flat python
#

Weird

#

How far are you putting it through

#

Does it keep going or just stop

icy wharf
#

Like I said, It won't feed into the small hole that the gears are meant to feed it into

flat python
#

I usually spin the wheel until it's through the hole then push the lever and push it by hand the rest of the way

icy wharf
#

Gonna be really damn upset if it turns out my first ever 3d printer came defective or something....

flat python
#

Mine hasn't had that many issues and I've had it since preorder

icy wharf
#

Wondering if it's a filament issue or something

#

But I didn't expect the filament to come expanded or something

flat python
#

Do you have pics or a video though

#

They did send 1.75mm filament right?

icy wharf
#

Yep

#

And I bought a spool of overture 1.75mm pla, and a spool of Giantarm 1.75mm TPU, none of them will feed.

flat python
#

send vid?

icy wharf
#

Not really sure what to take a vid of exactly.

flat python
#

the process of trying to feed filament basically

icy wharf
#

brb, going to grab a drink and see if I can get a vid.

icy wharf
#

back, had some coffee and ice cream and I'm no longer as cranky.

#

Gonna see about trying to feed the filament and recording the process.

#

Letting things heat up

#

Just going to use a snippet of PLA since Ive got the spools in a plastic tub with enough damprid to dehydrate a large apartment

#

Here's some vids @flat python

flat python
#

Huh so the extruder is the issue

#

How tight is that screw again?

icy wharf
#

Like, medium tight? The spring is compressed enough to keep pressure but not like, squashed

icy wharf
#

Sweet merciful flock, I fixed it

#

I had to entirely disassemble the heating element to remove the . . . Hot thing… nozzle? And pushed the metal skewer through and a giant glob of solidified tester filament popped free

#

Which is to say, it came clogged from the factory

#

Now I just need to buy a glue stick so that my print actually sticks to the base plate

dapper gyro
icy wharf
#

Ah, maybe a different base temp then, prints keep popping off

#

Turned it up from 60 to 80

#

That seems to have worked

Leveling Your Printer
Here is a handy infographic that will help with levelling your printer.

@icy wharf

Here's a handy guide on leveling the bed and getting the nozzle where it needs to be, glad you got your issue resolved!

icy wharf
#

@nimble oxide That and turning up the bed temp a bit seems to have fixed things, fingers crossed!

flat python
#

Uh you don't need 80c for pla

#

Is the z offset set correctly

#

80c is above glass temp so it's going to have horizontal expansion on the bottom few layers

icy wharf
#

Yep, after a bit of googling I found that out, adjusted things and finished my first successful print!

nimble oxide
#

Good job, happy printing!

icy wharf
#

Found a USB cable too so I'm trying out a print direct from PC

nimble oxide
#

Sweet, hope it goes well

icy wharf
#

Doing a quick and simple print of a gift for my father, a little plastic CIB

#

Though, considering the bed space I'm considering trying to scale it up and make a giant one next.

#

Maybe get some paint
