Yes, there are a few ways to reduce the noise produced by the stepper motors in a 3D printer. Here are some methods you can try:
-
Adjust the stepper motor current: By fine-tuning the current settings on the stepper motor drivers, you can strike a balance between motor torque and noise. Lowering the current slightly can sometimes help reduce noise without sacrificing performance.
-
Dampen vibrations: Some noise may be caused by vibrations being transferred to the frame. You can use dampeners or shock absorbers, such as rubber pads, to isolate the motors from the printer frame. This can help reduce noise generated by vibrations.
-
Upgrade to quieter stepper motor drivers: DRV8825 drivers can create more noise compared to other driver options. Consider upgrading to Trinamic TMC2130 or TMC2208 drivers, which offer quieter operation by employing more advanced control algorithms.
-
Ensure proper motor alignment: Misaligned motors can produce unnecessary noise. Make sure your moto...
DRV8825's are high torque ( good for extruders) but high noise when used for X or Y axis. You can swamp them with TMC 2100's or 2208's ( need to be in stand alone mode) This will make your printer a lot less noisey to use . Depending on your budget it may be time to look at a 32 bit board that has "silent" TMC drivers on board . Something like the BTT E3V3 is a versatile board . Good luck
