#Inconsistent Temps = Print Failure

So I began a print and before the print I saw that the temps were a little inconsistent and didn't stay constant (+ or - 1-2 degrees) I started the print anyways and low and behold it failed because the extruder went below the minimum cut off temp. (Might I mention that the bed is fine) I did a PID autotune for both the bed and the extruder. I then did some gcode wizardry and got the print going again. 5 minutes into the print the printer quit because of low extruder temps again. I am at a total loss for what could be causing this. Any ideas?

It sounds like you've already taken some important troubleshooting steps. Inconsistent temperatures and sudden drops in extruder temperature during a print can have several potential causes:

  1. Insufficient power supply: Ensure that your printer is receiving a stable power supply, and that it is capable of delivering enough power to maintain consistent temperature.

  2. Faulty thermistor or heater cartridge: Check the connections of both the thermistor and heater cartridge. Make sure they are properly secured and functioning correctly. If necessary, replace them.

  3. PID tuning: Although you mentioned performing a PID autotune, it's possible that the settings are still not optimized. If you haven't already, consider re-doing the PID tuning process to ensure accurate temperature control.

  4. Cooling fans: If the cooling fans are running at full speed, they may cause temperature fluctuations. Consider adjusting the fan speed settings to maintain a more stable temperature.

  5. Firmware...
