#Sovol SV06 Inadequate Bed Leveling

Hello! I tried to print multiple things at once and noticed that some of them weren't sticking on the right side of the bed. So I redid Auto Z-Align, Level Bed, and confirmed the Probe Z-offset was good, 0.2 mm. Saved settings. Tried the prints again, no dice. So I decided to do one of those squares that's the size of the whole bed. It took several attempts to even get one that would print fully instead of catastrophically failing after a few minutes - it would pull up the entire right side of the square. I had to print around 80% to get it to work. I can see the Z-axis moving to follow the saved mesh, but it doesn't seem adequate.

What are the steps from here? Can I manually change height for parts of the bed? Do I need to change something so I can manually set the Z-offset at different points? Confirm the gantry is level with a method different from Auto Z-Align?

Printing Overture Matte Gray PLA at 200°C with 60°C bed. Square was modeled in Fusion360 (220x220x0.2 mm) and sliced in Cura (Standard Quality, 0.2 layers).

AI Help

It sounds like you have taken some important steps in troubleshooting your bed adhesion issue. Here are some additional steps you can try:

  1. Clean the bed surface: Ensure that your print bed is clean and free from any debris or residue. You can use isopropyl alcohol to wipe the bed surface.

  2. Adjust the bed leveling: Double-check the bed leveling by manually leveling the bed using a sheet of paper or a feeler gauge. Make sure that the nozzle is at the correct distance from the bed at all points.

  3. Check the first layer height: In your slicing software, verify that the first layer height is properly set. It should match your desired nozzle-to-bed distance (usually around 0.2 mm).

  4. Use a different adhesive: If you are still having trouble with bed adhesion, you can try using a different adhesive. Some options include using a thin layer of glue stick or applying a specialized 3D printing adhesive like hairspray or a PEI sheet.

  5. Check the bed temperature: Ensure that your be...

Did you confirm the Z offset was correct by checking, or just by entering a pre-determined number?

I used a 0.2 mm feeler gauge.

The Z-offset (of the probe) is something you'll have to adjust as necessary

#

If it's too far, you'll have to set the nozzle to sit closer

#

Any reason you used a 0.2mm feeler gauge in this case?

The setup instructions said 0.2 mm was good, but it's also my understanding that the desired layer height and nozzle-bed distance should be equal.

Hmm I see the reasoning there

#

Ideally you'd set the nozzle so that it's at a theoretical zero. The first layer isn't printed at Z0, but at Z0+layerheight

#

so it moves up the thickness of your first layer already, above zero

#

If you have a 0.15mm feeler gauge, you can try adjusting it to that and see if it improves. This technique really depends on when you consider the feeler gauge to be 'tight enough'

#

Lots of us adjust the Z offset while we print a test print, as it's the easier way to get it right once you've done it a couple times 🙂

Yes 😁

🤔

We use babystepping to move the Z axis, as that's moving the motor without changing the Z number the printer thinks it's at

#

And once it looks right, ya remember the number of how much you moved and adjust your Probe Z-Offset by that amount 🙂

I'm not sure that would solve this issue, though, as it seems (to my untrained eyes and calipers) that the variance across the bed is too great. The thickness of the sheet on the bottom left corner is 0.1 mm and on the bottom/top right it's 0.3/0.4 mm.

#

Hmm so it's uneven across the bed too?

prisma geode
#

Yes - if you look at the pictures you can see how bad it is.

I'm sorry, I might've missed it on the visual representation

#

Are you using Cura slicer?

No worries, I appreciate any help I can get.

#

Yes

Can you move over to the menu item called Settings, then into the menu "Printer", and select Manage Printers?

#

On the pop-up window, select your SV06 machine profile, and click Machine Settings

#

Let me know whether the "Start G-Code" box contains a line with M420 in it

I had to get back to work but I'll check that later.

There is a line in the printer start G-code containing M420.
M420 S1 ;use bed mesh, must have used G29 previously.

I don't see G29 on the previous lines.

Well, that explains it

I could physically put something under the plate on the right side to raise it, but that doesn't do anything for the high spots (+0.118-0.165) on the left.
