I recently got a K1 printer. I am loving the speeds but I am having a hard time getting clean walls which result in brittle parts. I am using Creality Print with base configs for the most part. I have tried to reduce wall speed and adjust the flow. This is Creality hyper PLA which supports speeds up to 600mm/s. Nozzle is .4. layer height .2. Outer wall line width is .42. Temp is 230 which is the default for Creality Print at the base speed of 300mm/s. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

AI Help
From your description, it seems like you're experiencing layer adhesion issues, which can cause brittle parts. Here are a few suggestions to improve the print quality:
-
Decrease print speed: While your printer can handle high speeds, reducing the print speed can help improve the quality of the walls. Try reducing the speed to around 60% (~180mm/s) and see if it makes a difference.
-
Increase nozzle temperature: PLA generally prints well at temperatures between 190-220°C. Try increasing the temperature to around 220-230°C to ensure better layer adhesion.
-
Check your filament quality: Ensure that your filament is not old or degraded, as it might affect the print quality. If possible, try a different roll of filament to see if the issue persists.
-
Adjust the extrusion multiplier: If you're still experiencing issues, try adjusting the extrusion multiplier slightly higher or lower to fine-tune the flow rate. Small adjustments can make a significant difference in print quality....

Speed comes at a cost
Can you upload the picture in a format Discord supports readily?
On it....did not realize it was heic...
Okay.
Is the tube on your print head exiting at the very end of the chain, or at some part before that part?
Pic incoming
ok 👌
And it came like that?
Correct
Okay.
Hmm. I'm not quite as well versed in the issues that are known on the K1.
There have been issues with extruders
There's fixed extruders, but I don't know how to determine whether yours is still of the old kind of new kind
Yeah, I can't print ABS very well as the extruder slips
Then that's not something you can fix; that's on Creality to fix for you.
I'd shoot them a message about this. They've been providing replacement extruders that don't slip.
As I've heard, it's due to gears not being made or positioned properly causing them to deflect just enough for gear tips to slip out
@pure pebble Do you happen to know more about this?
It should by all means be capable of printing ABS without skipping and it's not acceptable if your printer is not able to print without skipping; you should not put up with that 😅
Understood! Thank you very much for the help! Can't believe I waited this long to look for a print discord server lol...
:)
In mean time, check whether the tube that comes out of the back is not on a sharp angle when it enters the machine.
So, you think the extruder is slipping on PLA also?
I suspect so, but cannot say with high confidence that's the only possible cause.
Your account of ABS slipping though, makes that the most likely option in my opinion. The other thing I thought of was wet filament but it looks too smooth on the other surfaces where it isn't missing filament.
Yeah, I thought that as well and but ruled it out with testing.
Okay 👍 good work
It's more due to the fact that both of the shafts are unsupported so the gears are mounted at the top of posts. Apparently the design that is on the Max (and all new shipments) fixes that along with the relatively weak detent that held the extruder in the drive position
wasn't the ptfe tube also partially responsible for knocking over the arm?
With the exit of the drain chain yeah, however this was resolved on newer units (my batch clearly has a stronger detent than videoed and the exit point is fine on mine)
OP's tube also exits earlier than the very end 🙂
Likely the extruder shafts are bent from being the older, frankly defective design.
Contact Creality for a replacement, it's my understanding they have been pretty diligent about taking care of it.
Ah well, I was aware it was an issue but that it was being worked on. We will see!
Okay. Thanks for your input. 🙂

@pure pebble @zealous rose Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Received my new extruder yesterday and the K1 has been printing R2D2 parts flawlessly for a day straight!
Woooohoo!
😎
Is it the new style one? Should be identifiable by if it lever is more of a textured finish (vs shiny)
Also how’s your experience been with wall quality?
It is the same style which had me worried. The wall quality has been really good though in my limited experience. Let me get a photo
Did not clean it at all except for the brim
I have the "upgrade" kit coming for $3 also. That will not ship until 9/21 according to the site. Perhaps they are bulk upgrading...
