#linear advance stops extrusion on print pause/tune

Hey y'all! Just got linear advance working on my printer yesterday, and have done a few very successful prints with it.

However, I'm trying to use up a bad filament with some big parts, and it keeps failing partway through due to issues with the fillament. This time i caught it and tried changing it out before continuing with the print, but now the extruder will not extrude anything at all.

I know it's a linear advance issue by watching the extruder behavior; it pushes the fillament forward and then violently pulls it back, extruding a single tiny dot and nothing else. It looks similar to this during normal printing, but it doesn't pull it back as far, and is actually able to keep a constant pressure in the nozzle.

This has happened twice now and it seems to be related to me pausing a print when linear advance is enabled, and also changing the flowrate of the print using the "tune" menu, maybe.

Im hoping someone can give me some info on exactly why this is happening or how to get it to stop, because id like to resume my print rather than waste the whole thing. I even tried deleting the start of the gcode up to the point i am currently at in the print, but it still is behaving the same way, so I'm really not sure what factor needs to change to tell linear advance to reset or whatever.

I did try temporarily disabling linear advance, but that didn't seem to change the behaviour at all.

Thanks in advance;)

It sounds like you're experiencing some issues with filament extrusion on your printer. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check the filament path: Make sure there are no obstructions or tangles in the filament path, including the extruder and nozzle. Clean out any debris that might be blocking the filament.

  2. Check the extruder tension and grip: Ensure that the extruder gear is gripping the filament properly, not too loose or too tight. Adjust the tension as necessary.

  3. Check the nozzle temperature: Ensure that the nozzle is heated to the appropriate temperature for the filament you're using. If the temperature is too low, the filament may not extrude properly.

  4. Check the extrusion multiplier: Make sure that the extrusion multiplier in your slicer settings is correctly calibrated for your printer and filament. Adjusting this value can help improve extrusion.

  5. Check for firmware issues: If you recently updated your firmware or made changes to settings r...

Okay, I've gotten the print to start properly again. I copied the speed, acceleration, unit, linear advance, and extruder resetting gcode from the start of the script and reran that all. Seems to be extruding again (I'm betting it's the extruder reset that fixed it, specifically). I'm still very curious to know why this is happening in the first place, if anyone has any help to offer 🙂
