#Welcome to our new help forum where we just waste peoples time before our shitbird of an AI
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I apologize if you feel dissatisfied with the help provided. I am here to assist with any 3D printing questions or troubleshooting you may have. Could you please provide more details about the specific issue you are facing? I'll do my best to help you find a solution.
what
No but the last four I made have been with no time to ever get to a solution
All it does is dropping it from people's "I actively replied to this recently" list
If there is a different problem, you're best off messaging staff with @faint wolf
The post wasn't actually closed though. We are all still able to reply until you mark it resolved with ?resolved
It wont. I've got another year or two before I'll end up stuffed in an assited living facility
oh thats unfortunate :(
Legs dont work and one arm was crushed all due to someone here illegally driving with no license or insurance while I was walking down a side walk.
If there's a system problem beyond just the inactivity timer, you can message @faint wolf to create a ticket with staff. 🙂
on your problems with printers: i dont use the forum because i dont like the forum format but i have found the "quick question" server works well to start a brief convo where people help you
damn, its nuts just how quickly you can get pulled out of your normal life
Thats where I made my first post for help but was directed to make a request and this is number 5 in like 3 or 4 days. Keep being told different solutions to reach the same damn error. Each time I waste hours of my time trying to follow the instructions when I think anyone who even bothered to try what they are telling em would end up with the same compile error
The last two I even highlighted that I can only stand to sit up for a few hours at most before having to lay down and still end up with inactivity
Benchybot's DM's are not for personal issues with your printer or product. They're for alerting staff of system issues with the bots or the infrastructure of the server
The people here are all volunteers, so if no one can reach you a solution, there's not much anyone can be obligated into.
People can only spend their free time here when they have it and are willing to spend it here 🙂
Even before I opened the first request I searched what was here for sovol printers and reviewed a few. I have yet to see a single request where someone replyed 'That fixed it" before the issues was closed for inactivity not long after tyhe last reply. If someone thinks this is setup right to actually help people then they must be delusional.
here's what i would try: i would not try to teach my printer its only 310mm, i would go into cura, tell it the bed is only 310mm, then i'd modify the printer endstops to stop the print head on the edge of the smaller bed. i would assume this would work. its a janky ass method but maybe you get results
It's not often people mark their issues as resolved. It's not a reliable way of gauging the success rate of the help posts
The success rate of helping people is not dependent on the system in place for placing messages, but on whether someone is around that has the time and resources to assist you in that moment. That won't always be the case, unfortunately.
I have tried that and I end up with stop errors during the homing process when bed leveling. I did that right after the carriage change before I even thought about modifing the firmware
I then tried moving those sensors back to the og locations and leveling with the larger glass buildplate that came with the 350mm bed and adding it's thickness to the z_offset and that kinda works but not really
I mean all I need to do is chnage two 360 to 310 and compile the firmware but every time I try to compile I end up with Enviroment errors
hmm then i cant help you sadly, im not good with firmware
If you have an SV06, beware that the bed sensor is inductive and will not work when the bed surface is not ferromagnetic.
Yeah the sv03 does not have that and used a glass build plate. The 310mm bed I moved to uses a magnetic buildplate
so no more clips or printing on glass if I can ever get working firmware
I can't help you with the Sovol SV03 printer, unfortunately.
I'd wager everything I own that someone who knows or has compiled their own firmware would probably figure it out in no time using their own compiling environment because it's probably something stupid simple that Ive been banging my head against for days upon days
Does the printer work properly if you install the original firmware on to the motherboard once again?
Yes but I just cant get the bed to level easily at all with all this extra crap I'm having to do to level it as it tries to sensor prob off the 310mm bed becuase it thinks it's still a 350mm bed
Have you changed the bed size in the Marlin configuration file, and adjusted the bed level probe locations?
I've been afraid that it's going to end up ripping the bltouch off if I forget to put the 350mm build plate n the the 310mm bed when I level corners
so I end up with prints that fail pretty fast due to adhesion issues
I've even tried running the CR-10S firmware on it as the sv03 is basically a copy of it with a larger bed, same manboard and everything but with stop errors trying to use that firmware. The only solution really is to get those two 360's chnaged to 320 in the configuration.h and get it compiled but regardless of what I do I end up with compiling errors due to wrong enviroment
I have the board defined as a Ramps but Code studio always end up giving me an environment error during the compile. I thought that maybe I missed a location defining the enviroment but I have gone through the code line by line and do not see any other place it could be pulling the wrong board name from
Different boards come with different features and pins assignments, you can't just mix configuration files.
I'm using the config file provided as the sovol sv03 source code from sovol https://sovol3d.com/pages/download. I even tried another one someone directed me here to uses https://github.com/Sovol3d/SV03-Source-Code/blob/master/Marlin/Configuration.h but end up with the same environment error compiling
you might want to share more specifically what it says. It's hard to troubleshoot it when when we don't know what the error is exactly
I just recently tried using stock marlin firmware but cutting the text from the sovol config.h and putting it in the blanked out stock marlin config.h but still the same environment error during the compile. I even used that platformio plug in and end had the correct version and motherboard but still the same environment error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled code studio multiple times as well to see if it was an install issue there but nothing does anything but give me the same errro during compiling...
You need the platformio plugin. it's not optional.
One sec let me go grab the error agaiin this is like the fifth time I've put it in one of these but maybe your fresh eyes will point me in a new direction "knocks on wood*
It's the first time for me, because I haven't been here yesterday
when you uninstall vscode and or platformio, you need to make sure you delete /.platformio directory on your home directory too, it's more on the platformio that's usually make glitches
Can you share the text?
I have no clue where it's getting that mega board info at but each time it errors out basicly saying I have the wrong board someplace
That why I tried reinstalling everything thinking maybe it had me select a board during those install processes but nope I have no clue where its getting that info from, not sure it its coming from the app or from the code the app is trying to compile
It's not compiling yet at that point. It's a pre-compile check by PlatformIO, before passing it on to the Gnu C Compiler
How is it getting that meatron bs
I have no joke spent hours looking at each line and not found that anyplace
atmega2560 is the default environment because that's what the original RAMPS was built for
Either this one doesn't use platformio as it doesn't have platformio.ini or sovol gave incomplete source.
I was thinking that should say Ramps 13 EFB like the sovol config.h does
It looks like it's just marlin from source, as it's the latest bugfix release
Are you using the Auto Build Marlin plugin too, or just building using PlatformIO's build tools?
Yeah I think its something sovol has intentionally done to be honest which is why I was hoping someone who knows this stuff could figure it out
I have tried more ways now than I can honestly recall but ended up with the same damn error each way
I mean it's just a stock sovol sv03 that worked great till the heated bed started tossing errors during the initial heat up of the print process. I spent months trying to get a replacement from sovol directly before finding the cr10 310mm heated bed which I then had to buy a new carriage for and it works great with the exception of its smaller than whats defined in the code its running
Do you only need to change the bed size? You do realize it will affect other settings, right? Auto bed leveling, min pos, max pos, etc.
So to reiterate: you're compiling Marlin from source with Sovol's edited version of t he source code?
I have used just the marlin firmware with the sovols configuration.h I have tried using the sovol files and overwritting them into the marlin folder I have tried ardrinioide and code studio, multiple plug ins for code studio. No joke more ways than my messed up pain and drug confused brain can even remember
Have you tried building the files from sovol fresh out of the folder your download, with just PlatformIO installed and nothing else? Does that work and/or build successfully?
It won't work, the source code doesn't have platformio.ini in it.
The sovol download is missing some of the critical marlin files and it tells me that. I first was on sovols fb page and thats where I was told I would have to get the marlin download and overwrite the those marlin files with the sovol files
PlatformIO should be able to convert a standard Arduino project into a PIO project upon launch. It may prompt you, or you may have to use "Import Arduino project"
Okay
I will have a look and see if I can help you out with that
Thats when I started running into that environment error during the compile and that error persists regardless on how I try to do the compile. Thanks I'm super grateful sorry if I'm coming off harsh but man this has brought me to tears. I can program FC's in betaflight and Inav and flying is the only joy I get these days and fpv makes me feel like I can still walk but now I cant repair or do any new builds becuase I bought a sovol it would seem.
I mean what manufacture stops making parts when they still have units that they are selling new with warranties. Sovol is a garbage company and if I was not having to live off of $1300 a month I would have just bought another cheap printer. I had to sacrifice food just to buy this darn 310mm bed, build plate, and carriage
I don't have a lot of time at the moment but I do think I could give you some tips on troubleshooting on your own
I don't think Sovol ever sold spare beds for the SV03 to begin with.
I won't do that... it will be confusing even more.
You don't have to do anything. No worries.
I spent almost a year off and on troubleshooting the intial stop error that started out 1 in 25 prints but then after a few months I was lucky if I could get 1 out of 25 to heat up and start printing and it would take more than 5mins just to reach 60 while it was still under warranty
Do you mind having different version than the original ?
not at all I just want to be able to get the bed leveled correctly
I'll try to download this one https://github.com/JoveToo/Marlin-Sovol/tree/2.0.9.3-sv03-silentboard-bltouch
wait up
Extracting it now and will try replacing those two 360 for 310 and compiling so I should know in a moment but I'd wager a bet it's the same enviro error but I've got my fingers crossed
have you try deleting /.platformio directory from your home directory?
Not sure I even see that folder I do have a platformio.ini file which I have looked for a mainboard in before
Look for %userprofile%/.platformio if you're on Windows
Alternatively, check the console for where it's mentioning the .platformio folder, and ctrl+click on the link to it
just copy " %userprofile%/.platformio" without the quotes and paste it in file explorer should do it.
Well not the same error and this one produced a hex but not sure it's usable with these flags
OMG PLEASE WORK
check the size of the HEX file 🙂
this one built for the mega2560 though, so make sure to change that to the platform of your board 😁
it may be an stm32F103
I'm going to try to load it on the printer but it's in my garage which takes me a good 15 to 20 mins just to transfer chairs and get in there without ending up on the floor. Thank you thank you if you dont stick around but I'm going to try to get the hex to load and Hex is 638kb
that sounds like a reasonable file size for a firmware
the official ones uses ramps, so it should be mega2560
I meant for the config
You need to think about the effects of changing bed size. you might need to change x min max and y min max at the very least.
Easiest way to ensure they're going to be correct, is to search for the original size's number first (360) by using "Search in Files"
go to line 1381 in configuration.h
Then, manually check if the software endstops numbers are within range, and if your bed probing spots are within the range of your new bed size too. they're not defined relative to the size, but statically
is it not square? it's defined x 360 and y 370
Have a safe trip
Well that version worked but there is no level corners and everything is majorly different. There is only the basic leveling in it 😭
It just makes little to no sense to me that the sovol config.h cant be used in modern version of marlin without code studio giving environment errors but this is further than I have gotten in my last four posts for help here so thank you so much I just need to figure out how to get corner leveling back or better yet how to use a current version of marlin and actually have it compile like it supposed to without those damn environment errors.
Spoke to soon
Marlin codes changes very quickly, and like every other open source projects it relies on contributors and for your case, unfortunately, it looks like your printer is not very popular so if there's no one contributing the code for the printer will stand as it is.
It seemed to work but homing it just gives the quick error "Err: Too Far" also does that starting a print. I did correct bed length andd width in the configuration.h before compiling
Like I've said it before, you need to think about the x min max pos and y min max pos, it's also related to the endstops.
Jesus I have no idea how you guys used older versions of this stuff as well as back in the day of having no leveling. I use to work as a tool setter and cnc operator back in the late 90's and I dont know why none of that was as hard and as confusing as what these things use on top of gcode. I want to go back to two months ago or longer when this thing actually was easy to use lol
If you have experiences in cnc then you know what I'm talking about right? I don't use auto bed leveling, I use that thin gauges.
You need to take the 50mm differences into account if you change it from 360 to 310.
Yeah but I used real gauges to measure things back in the day
Well my 3d printer is a cheap one, so I don't bother with that
my guess is you need to set the configs on line 1385 to 1390 in configuration.h
I forgot what app I used initially to use to measure the z_offset but I need to go back an do that now with the endstops? Would I need to do this if sovols source worked?
this
or move the physical endstop, but I don't think it's that easy.
I'm not very good with math, but I'm thinking since you change it to 310, you need to add 25 each side
Yeah but I dont see a point without being able to do modern bed leveling. I need to figure out why a current version will not compile using sovols config. I need corner leveling
So why is the old version working but nothing newer
each version requires the corresponding configuration version.
it's the way the code works, they may have changed variable names, etc.
I have used the 2.1.2 that sovol claim the source is from
Well that older version was the first time I did not compile to an environment error
might be a glitch, if it happens you need to delete the /.platformio directory
even marlin devs encounter that kind of thing
You did mention that and I have not tried it so here goes. Should I then do what sovol said and take their source and overwrite the marlin source with it first or just take the configuration.h data before modifying and trying to compile it?
first you need to make sure it's the same version. then you MIGHT be able to compile.
like I've said, marlin needs the corresponding configuration file in regards with the version. e.g marlin 2.1.2 needs config files version 2.1.2.
you cant't just mix them
Yeah I have those config files both the ones sovol provides and the ones that are marlin dev examples for the sv03
at this point I wouldn't use the one from sovol if I were you.
unless you're willing to troubleshoot their codes, better not.
Got rid of the folder and just noticed sovol does not even mention the version they are using on github but I think 2.1.2 was told to me in the FB forum
it's in version.h
#define SHORT_BUILD_VERSION "2.0.0 BL"
so if anyone says otherwise, it's bs
see, you can't trust them, unfortunately this is the way they are.
Well then that explains the errors should have looked up how to find version on my own just to check damn
Hey, I've got to go now... Good luck with your printer.
So the min pos in their code is 0 as well so thats something I'm going to have put in
Ok thanks for the help
I'm not very good with math, but a quick thinking, I think you should take 25 each side, since you change it from 360 to 310. But it might not be correct since you need to take endstop position into account.
Ok, I really need to go. Bye now.
Thnks again

@verbal mural @chilly acorn Thanks again both of your for your invaluable help here. I'm back up and printing again and now better than it was out of the box due to the bad bed from the factory. Been running pretty much nonstop since that evening. Thanks again.
