After installing this new extruder I've been getting the above mentioned error when trying to home.
I've done the following:

  • verified all cables are securely plugged in and undamaged
  • verified Klipper sees the endstops as TRIGGERED / open when appropriate
  • power cycled both the Sonic Pad and the Ender 3
  • changing homing_dist in the printers config

It sounds like you have covered some of the common troubleshooting steps already. The error message you are receiving may indicate that the endstop switch is not being triggered properly. You could try swapping the endstop switches with another axis to see if the problem follows the switch, or try adjusting the trigger position of the endstop.

Another thing to check is if there are any obstructions preventing the axis from reaching the endstop switch. You could try moving the axis manually to the endstop and observing if it triggers properly.

If none of these steps help, it may be helpful to provide more information such as the exact error message you are seeing, the type of extruder you have installed, and any modifications you have made to the printer.

Just seeing if second homing is the culprit

No positive effect observed from that change unfortunately

#

The only difference I noted was it no longer moved when homing

Hold tight, I think I may have been being a dunce..

Sure enough...

Turns out I'd separated the Z rod from the rest of the assembly.

Thanks for the help @frail heath , hope the resolution is at the very least funny haha.
