#Z Banding on Ender 3 V2

Hi all, I have an Ender 3 V2 but it's far from stock so that doesn't help much.

I am seeing Z banding and cannot figure out why.

I have dual Z screws and have verified it still happens whether one or both are in use.

I have verified my frame is square.

I have verified my Z screws are not binding.

I have verified that my V wheels are snug, not super tight or loose and with Z screws disengaged, move very smoothly. No noticeable wear on them either.

I have tried multiple different filaments including a brand new freshly opened one. However I mainly use Hatchbox if that matters.

I am running a very out of date version of Jyers that is not properly adjusted to my printer as far as where the center of the bed is but other than that I have no issues.

My hot end is the all metal hot end from micro swiss.

I use Cura as my slicer and it is on the most recent version.

Z-banding can be caused by a variety of factors, but it seems like you have ruled out many of them. Here are a few additional things you can try:

  1. Check for loose belts: If your printer has belts that are too loose, this can cause Z-banding. Check to make sure they are tight enough.

  2. Check for play in X/Y directions: Sometimes X/Y movement can cause minor Z-axis movement, which can contribute to Z-banding. Check for any play in your X/Y gantry and tighten or replace parts as necessary.

  3. Adjust the Z-axis acceleration: Try lowering the Z-axis acceleration value in your printer firmware, which can help smooth out any minor vibrations that might contribute to Z-banding.

  4. Adjust your Z-hop: Z-hop can sometimes help reduce Z-banding by lifting the nozzle between layers. Try adjusting this value in your slicer settings to see if it helps.

Good luck with troubleshooting!

Responding to bot for others to see answers.

Belts have been checked.

I dont see any play on the X/Y

Haven't tried this but I doubt it's the issue since it seems to be evenly spaced lines and not consistent throughout the print.

This issue happens with or without any Z hop

Do the screws have the motor spacer to align it to the frame?

#

Also is the leadscrew lubed?

I'm not sure I understand. The motors don't have a spacer under them but they have a mounting bracket that mounts them to the frame and that is how you adjust the gap/alignment. The Z screws are lightly lubed with grease. Enough that you can feel a film on your fingers if you touch them but not enough that there's any build up anywhere.

Pardon the dust and poor quality pic, it's a screenshot of a video.

This kind of shows how they are mounted. The black bar screws into the top of the motor and attached to the upright of the frame by those "key nuts" that turn to lock and you screw into them to tighten down.

There's nubs on the red plastic center portion that prevent it sitting flush so despite how it looks, that coupler is all the way together and solid.

The motors are off the frame about 1mm
