#Cutting thread in PETG, print orientation
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
To print the adapter with a M12 thread, you'll want to orient the part so that the hole is vertical, facing up. This will ensure that the threads are printed in the right direction and will have the necessary strength to hold the M12 bolt. You may also want to consider adding support material to the underside of the adapter to ensure that the thread starts cleanly and is not deformed during printing. Additionally, you may need to have a tap set that is specifically designed for threading plastic, as the standard metalworking taps may not work well in the plastic material.
current orientation, grab a 10,25mm drill and a M12 Tap
i wasnt precise enough, the part prints just fine with the hole, but when cutting the M12, the layers split, so i want to try a new orientation 🙂
thats why you want the drill
will make it round
if it still splits, you will need a ton of supports and print it angled
it also needs to be strong against bending forces so horizontal printing isn't it. i will try like 45°-60°. also im printing PETG
yea 45-60, if you can, crank the Temperatures as high as you can, will increase layeradhesion, also print slow with next to no cooling, preferable none
aight, thanks for the advise ill notify you if it works 🙂
