Hey! I recently ordered an OW60 case for my Wooting 60HE V2. Since the V2 uses a friction-fit design (instead of the original tray-mount 60HE), I just wanted to clarify how the OW60 upgrade kit should be used with the V2.

A few questions:
Should I keep using the friction sleeve that comes pre-installed on the 60HE V2, or swap it for the one included in the OW60 kit?

The V2 already has a pre-installed tape mod, should the adhesive Poron sheet from the kit go on top of this, or should the tape mod be removed first?

Are there any parts in the upgrade kit that shouldn’t be used with the 60HE V2 due to redundancy or incompatibility?

You follow the instructions in the 60HE install video as normal. Either keep what's already there if replaced with similar, or remove the preinstalled parts and replace.

Would really appreciate some more in depth guidance as to what to get rid of/keep as I’m pretty new to keyboard modding

I just went through the same process. Assuming it was the preassembled HE V2 module you got, the original guide on the page of the ow60 case is still valid. I did dissasemble the module for different stabilizers though but thats optional.

  • I replaced the tape mod the HE v2 came with, with the tape mod that came with the ow60 case
  • i also used the foam from the ow60 case between the pcb and the plate
  • i kept the clear film sheet originally installed on the front v2 module not the one that came with the ow60 case
  • i took out the silicon standoffs on the module, not sure if the module sandwhich fits properly with them still in
  • i used the o-ring from the ow60 case instead of the original one on the module. That was a little loose at the bottom, and you do have to be a little careful to make sure the clear film doesnt pinch as you put it in the case but it will all fit flush inside the case

If youre looking at using the original FR4 plate though, not sure how that impacts the process as i opted to use the carbon fiber one to start with so YMMV there
