If you didn’t do anything to damage it (like if it just wore out or something), you can contact support to see if they’ll RMA it.
It's from the founders edition. I just took it apart and the pins are loose on the top of it, looks like it was just pushed inside. Do I just ask for a replacement part?
Just tell them what’s wrong and ask if there’s anything they can do. iirc the port is just soldered on the pcb. So if they can’t RMA it, you could just buy a port and solder it in.
the port itself shouldnt be loose in terms of attached to the PCB. a cable in the port will be slightly loose feeling. if you contact us and we cant offer anything you want to accept or can accept then you can always ask a more professional repair place to resolder the port pins (or if you have microsoldering skills do it yourself).
ofc it needs a proper assessment of why they are loose now
The port is definitely loose on attachment to the PCB, I just pulled it out of the case.
the main question would be if the traces are ripped or not that the backside of the connector uses for the pins inside
How can I tell?
If you're referring to what looks like to me as a bunch of small solder lines.. 😬
how loose is the port
is it just the 4 legs connecting the housing to the pcb or also the small solder joins at the back
oh it's about to fall out. I'm confident if I turned it upside down it might fall out with a bump.
Small solder joins at the back i can see daylight through 😦
oh i just now see the connector pin legs are fully broken off
you could have luck if you find someone (or have the skill yourself) to do the micro soldering that the port just reattaches and its fully functional again
at least from the looks of it id rate it most likely easily repairable by just resoldering it onto the pcb
I'm guessing that each one of those needs to be independently soldered as well as the feet that are going through the PCB?
yes
you could flux it out, but if you don't have the skills, best send the board in for repair (or have it professionally repaired). I would replace that USB-C port
(If you try doing it yourself, do not put too much heat)
If you don't have a scope (or a capable lens) and no micro/nano Soldering tip, don't go any further. You will surely damage the board with heat and damage the traces
That's really small for what I've ever done.. Most I've done is adding some paddles to an old xbox 360 controller 😬 . I'm assuming this would have to ship back to EU? I don't mind trying to source the correct usb-c port and then looking around locally maybe for someone with the skills to do so. I'm guessing I'd need a different iron and probably some micro tools
I definitely do not have those
Yeah, send it for repair/refurbish
Worth trying if I purchase those? Or is there a high probability I end up having to buy a new pcb?
Don't risk it
the investment does not pay off
after getting the (not cheap equipment) you need skills
we are talking hundreds/thousands Euros to repair a 154€ PCB
@pastel schooner have you guys ever considered releasing the schematics and BOM for the PCBs ? I know you guys endorse R2R.
This is a trick question: Is the mcu on the 60HE pin-to-pin compatible with the OG 60HE 😄 ?
oh wow. So not a good opportunity to learn a new skill.. there's times that I'd like to replace a mouse switch or scroll wheel encoder on different mice (finalmouse starlight 12's coming to mind).. but I've been scared to do so because of how expensive the boards are (and small).
the mcus arent just swapable
for multiple reasons other than pin compatiblity
they are to me 😄
I'm truly a snob in what comes to electronics, so I would never get anything below a JBC
we actually dont offer board repair
I'm assuming this isn't covered by any sort of warranty, so I guess I'm trying to decide now if I can re-use the port that's been separated (or if I need a new one.. what part number would be correct).. and if it's going to take 2 months to get it repaired plus shipping, etc.. is it alot cheaper to do that or am I better off buying a 60he+ pcb?
And would that even work for the OG case
this is covered under warranty if its still valid unless you removed the port yourself
yes
have you guys considered outsourcing board repair in EU?
I mean you can see it's still attached (sort of?) in the video/pics. Would that just be shipping it back to EU from US, or?
I did drop a support ticket on the website, just trying to get an idea if I need to end up buying another keyboard sooner than later.. got a LAN competition to take my son to for some scholarship money in about 3 weeks 😬
youd have to contact us to check in with how to proceed on this
That's just the support ticket via email, yeah?
yes
I tried to get him to use the 80HE but ends up banging his mouse hand on it 😦
move the 80HE further to the left for the time being
Tell that to the 12 year old with the keybaord sideways af
then let him learn by experience (and bruses) 😄
Makes them better 😉
Seriously! Hit me on DM if outsourcing PCB level repair in EU is something that you are considering. I know a guy .... 😉
we dont really do official comms of that kind via discord
