When I get the new Wooting, do I need to do a lot of complicated work to assemble it, or is it just a matter of installing the keycaps?

#

So, I need to do it myself?

#

i think i need to buy Wooting Switch Lube set (Krytox 205G0 & Molykote EM-50L) for that right?

#

'm not very knowledgeable about keyboards; I thought this set of tools was just for simply removing keycaps...

#

Alright, I understand. So when I receive everything, are they all shipped as separate parts? Do I still need to install the keyboard switches one by one?

@finite ether did you buy any keycaps?

Oh okay. Just make sure they’re the proper layout.

Yeah that’s fine. You’ll just have to piece the case, module, switches, and keycaps together as nothing will be assembled. If you know what you’re doing it only takes a few minutes. But don’t rush anything. For one, it’s fun like legos. Second, you wouldn’t want to put it all together and realize you forgot something like plugging in the usb-c port to the module.

I'm currently confused about the lubrication part because I've heard many people say that when you get a Wooting keyboard, you need to reapply lubrication. I'm wondering: once I receive it, do I just assemble the case and module and then directly install the keycaps? I'm not clear if, every time you install a keycap, you need to lubricate the module.

where can i find the video?

# finite ether I'm currently confused about the lubrication part because I've heard many people...

Switches come prelubed. You could reapply your own lube but just guessing based off of this convo, you’ve never modded a keyboard, so just leave it as is from the start. I’ll link the vid, just follow that and you’ll be fine. https://youtu.be/LNa5wuqiFVY?si=EP0By1acD-YlaLOR

This tutorial shows you how to assemble your Wooting 80HE module in one of our compatible cases.

BTW, I want to ask about keyboard switches. I'm actually not very knowledgeable about them. Is the Lekker Switch - Linear 60 the switch I'm looking for? ChatGPT told me that the Lekker Switch is the best for playing Valorant.

Gateron Jade Switch is the better choice is it?

You can really go off the deep end with customizing keyboards and there’s so many options, that it allows one to be picky if they so wish. I run the lekker 60’s because I think they are a decent middle ground with sound signature (I’m not a fan of very clacky switches). Also with being 60g weight, it’s better for typing as opposed to a lighter spring. They do have some stem wobble but it’s really nothing to complain about and you can get plenty more expensive switches that have more wobble.

It’s not like the controller world where certain sticks are objectively better than others. They’re all pretty much equally responsive as it’s literally a stem, spring, magnet, and housing. The pcb does all the leg work.

#

Different switch designs allow for different sound profiles, stem stability, keypress weight (springs), RGB diffusion, general aesthetics, etc.
Since you’re just starting out, just stick with lekkers.

#

They’re a safe option
