#Wooting 60HE Random Key Presses

Currently having issues with key presses and profile swapping randomly on my 60HE.

I've had this problem before, it eventually sent itself into restore mode, and after two days worth of attempts to reset, one finally went through and it seemed to be working fine.

Fast forward about a month and I'm having the exact same issues as before, although it hasnt gone directly into wooting restore yet. Both wootility and the keyboard itself are on the most current version available and I've tried resetting it half a dozen times to no success. For whatever reason, leaving it unplugged overnight before resetting it is what temporarily fixed the issue last time so I tried that as well but again no dice.

It tends to swap randomly back to the racing profile as well as pressing keys on the U5 segment of the keyboard (per @cedar kernel ) causing the open application to zoom in and out, enter or exit fullscreen, etc. I have not seen any keys outside of that segment being pressed, leaving it open in a text channel only resulted in the symbols from that segment being shown.

Over the past few months, there have been very few cases of keyboards experiencing problems that seem to be related to the "U5" multiplexer, which caused issues such as random button presses or the keyboard being stuck in "Wooting Restore," which can occur if both keys [Backspace] + [FN] are being detected as pressed on startup.

Rocky_4 has been investigating these cases and found that there was damage to the Solder Mask on the PCB, which exposed the copper below. This exposure can cause problems if it makes contact with other conductive sources, resulting in a short and causing the problems listed above.

The methods below are to help mitigate that from occurring by removing the screw and covering the area with tape to help prevent a short from occurring.

  1. To start, you will need to remove the PCBA from the case. It's best to watch the VideoGuide.

  2. Once the PCBA is removed from the case, flip the keyboard over so that the PCBA is visible, and then remove the screws marked in this picture You do not need to screw it back in, and it's best to store it away.

  3. Once removed, best to wipe the area around the screw with a paper towel or any cloth just to remove any moisture and get it as dry as possible.

  4. Inspect the area around the screw for any damage or indent on the PCB, (Also, if possible, can you take a picture of the area as in focused as possible)
note you may not be able to see any damage/indents as they can be very small, as a microscope was used to find the damage.

  5. Prepare some electrical tape if possible; otherwise, any tape will do. Cut off a strip large enough to cover the area around the screw.
This is to prevent the exposed copper from touching any other conductive material that can cause a short and protect it from any moisture and corrosion.

  6. Plug it back in and test if the keyboard works.

@jovial sentinel
Hey mate, I would also recommend contacting Wooting on this matter as the advice given before may not hold up long-term and is more of a temporary fix and for troubleshooting.

To contact Wooting for official support, you can go to the Wooting Hub and select the "Contact Us" button,
or you can submit an email to social@wooting.io.
(Note: use the email address associated with your order for fastest resolution)

To speed up the process, you can also include the summary below. This will help the staff be brought up to speed to avoid repeating the same troubleshooting requests.
