since there's so many of us nerds here I figured it might be fun

vital geyser
#

fuck, you're gunna force me to boot into arch

#

brb

primal socket
#

ooh evil

vital geyser
#

I have a mostly black and red room setup so I stick with it on my desktop too

primal socket
#

I'd have lots of earthly tones, browns, greys and blacks if I tried matching my room

primal socket
#

wait your bed is floating on two kallaxs?

vital geyser
#

all my setup is using pywal though so the colour is all generated using the background

primal socket
#

what's the space in-between for MonkaW

#

ahh I tried that, pywal never got it right so I painstakingly figured it all out on my own

vital geyser
#

well its 2 big ones and 2 small ones then put 4x2 panels across

#

under it is just like, easier to access the storage off to the right and put other stuff under there (which would overwise be wasted space)

primal socket
#

very interesting setup

vital geyser
#

ill get a pic of under it 1 min

primal socket
#

haha cozyyy

vital geyser
#

you got a custom homepage right? 😄

primal socket
#

homepage?

vital geyser
#

like on your browser

primal socket
#

actually I don't, just use the firefox one

vital geyser
#

surprised

#

i coded this one years ago and still use it

#

also works with pywal

primal socket
#

I'm not much of a coder

vital geyser
#

ahhh okok

primal socket
#

the best I can make is little scripts with a lot of pain and effort, or some simple c/c++ programs for MCU stuff

vital geyser
#

getcha getcha!

#

ngl most of my stuff on this setup is scripted

#

hence why i also find it hard to move away from lol

primal socket
#

I actually never even thought a custom homepage like that was a thing you could do

vital geyser
#

yeah course! theres also a lot of premade ones too that you could use

#

things like Homer, uhhhh

#

fuck i forgot names of the others

primal socket
#

you use qutebrowser actively? I tried it years ago but it was just really rough around the edges

vital geyser
#

yeah i use qutebrowser as my main browser

#

have done for over 7 years or so

primal socket
#

interesting, I think i'm too stuck on firefox way of life and all the extensions I use there to move away

vital geyser
#

the only thing it doesnt really have is plugins but for youtube and stuff you can use greasemonkey scripts to fastforward ads x16 and auto click the skip (so you dont even see them, its like a flicker)

primal socket
#

yeah, little anemic for my use I think

#

I settled on using vim-extensions to get the main attraction on firefox anyway

vital geyser
#

aside from that, its got a fairly good adblock built in- kinda like a dns adblock

#

but yeah you could just use vimium or whatever the plugin is called and sorta have the same functionality so

primal socket
#

originally used vimperator and pentadactyl, then when those died I bounced around until I settled on vimium and it's pretty solid

vital geyser
#

ah yeah getcha, yeah i use that on my other browsers too but qutebrowser is my main one tho

primal socket
#

sad we didn't get more rices though, I wanted to see what people are doing

vital geyser
#

yeah me too lol, always nice to see how different people set theirs up

#

ill change background and toggle to light mode and show you how it all changes

primal socket
#

ahhh fancyy

vital geyser
#

my qutebrowser template for the accent colours needs a little tweaking it looks like tho maybe lol

primal socket
#

so how's the workflow actually, pywal generates a file with the colors and you use various techniques to link all the different parts of your desktop to those colors?

vital geyser
#

better in dark mode (which is what i use like 100% of the time)

vital geyser
#

in the qutebrowser case, i made a template and imported the colours on the webpage and used them

primal socket
#

ahh, figures, I just tried it to generate one-off palettes to test but eventually just settled on manually finding the palette I like best, probably never changing from these colors :>

vital geyser
#

honestly dont blame you, i spent too much time making pywal work with everything and scripted a lot of shit too lol

#

i also made this discord theme too

primal socket
#

yeahhh it's a lot of work ricing for sure

vital geyser
#

saying that i need to make pywal change the accent colours in discord too thats one thing i forgot about

#

also added in random things like auto splits in i3wm too cause it always annoyed me

#

so if the focused window is bigger height-wise, when you open a program it will auto split horizontally and if its widen, then vertically

#

if i remember right that functionality is in bspwm but wasn't in i3 so i added it myself lol

primal socket
#

Hyprland by default works like that but I'm sure there are ways to change it

#

I like it this way as well

vital geyser
#

yeah when hyperland pretty much come out, i was surprised it had it by default and i was like SICK i wont have to change anything lol

#

also made a lot of scripts for tmux and other shit too, like rofi etc

primal socket
#

that's pretty cool, I don't have anything special in my wofi I don't think

vital geyser
#

looks like something with the recent update ive just done has fucked up the theming passed from the terminal to tmux tho

#

it should be the same colour as the bar

#

ahh yeah heres the little script for auto split

primal socket
#

I forgot how i3 works but now I remember haha, needed to always flip with mod+h mod+v because the windows never spawned how I wanted

#

just doing it this way is very intuitive I think
