#Wooting 80HE
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Yes please! At present I use 2 keyboard a 60HE for FPS and a g715 TKL for everything else would love a 80HE or TKL so I can stick to one
tkl
A TKL next is just a natural choice, imo! I know so many clinching to the hope of a TKL as the next product release.
I drafted a keyboard layout that could be useful: It is a 75% with all standard cap sizes.
Only the left shift key is needed twice (since the right shift key must be shorter).
Just figuring out a way to show it...
This is a German Mac version.
Made with http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/
This would be the Win Iso En keyboard:
Actually this would be my favorite setup, but it is obviously very irregular:
This would be a Keychron compatible layout.
I don’t like the 1u modifier keys on the right hand side but they seem to become pretty standard.
The casing may become standard, too, as it just adds 1u in the x-direction and 1u in the y-direction. (Compared to the 60% casing.)
F-keys should always be grouped, IMHO, even if it comes at the expense of one key.
For me, this standard layout would be perfect
I would buy a TKL as well, but I think a more compact design has its merits:
Beautiful TKL layout
This would be a “Wooting” – W - fn key grouping. It would serve the purpose of fn-key grouping and also give it a bit of brand identity. (And it also happens to coincide with the the Mac media keys.)
My fav layout
For comparison: same design, but “W” layout:
I think people will complain about finger placement for arrows on the last layout shown.
I think the top one is peak keyboard, even thought a compact one is just as useful. Maybe two versions is good.
The arrow keys are actually in the normal position. But the legends of the keys and the position of the “Sup” i.e. “Super” key may be confusing. So here is a better picture. (One could always re-map the keys and change the keycaps, so for the hardware the legends and roles of individual keys are not that important, I guess.)
This would be the smallest exploded layout with all standard keycap sizes:
Menu on the wrong row but otherwise a very interesting take
Right, I forgot about sculpted keycaps. That poses additional difficulties. So, for compatibility with regular keycaps back to an 80% TKL?
I mean, you can still make it more interesting than standard TKL. Remove that menu button, you still have those F keys, extra key above space, compacter layout
But that would be a loss in functionality. And that to just gain 1u in width over a standard TKL. I prefer a keyboard with full set of modifier keys. I would rather use non-standard keys (or just use a standard TKL) in order to achieve that. The “W” layout has all the modifiers and it is even more compact. (And a “W” layout is basically a variant of the fairly standard 84key form factor and thus could potentially be compatible with 3rd party cases.)
The advantage of the wider form factor is, of course the standard 1.25u modifiers. And with one non-standard modifier key they are all there. So that would be something like this:?
+1 - A TKL with standard layout like the discontinued Wooting One would be perfect for gaming and office purposes.

Regarding the layout: in most places (especially office) you are offered only standard layouts. So it would be benefitial that the wooting would offer a standard layout too. You do not need to adjust and adapt yourself between different keyboard layouts in office or at home then.

A TKL gives most people all the additional keys needed for work.
Frankly, I would buy anything between a 75% and a 80% TKL. 2.4 GHz wireless would be great, though. 😉
I have two further ideas for the “W” layout. This one has 1.25u main modifiers on both sides of the space bar:
This second one has all 1.25u modifiers in row 1 and thus two irregular modifiers in the column on the right:
imo best keyboard layout, with rotary on top
yes have 60he order right now id happy buy a 2nd if they did something like this
A rotary dial or knob would be nifty. At least as an option. I still prefer grouped fn keys. It could be done, e.g. like this:
With a knob “option” I mean something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU3VZrw_hss

Why is everyone posting 75%’s in the TKL thread
Isn’t a 75% also a TKL i.e. a keyboard without a numpad?
Regarding the rotary dial a.k.a. knob: The hall effect sensor captures an analog signal, right? So, would it be possible to create a rotary dial that just moves the magnet in a characteristic fashion such that the sensor data produced by that movement could be interpreted as knob rotation?
That way you could create a sort of “lekker knob switch” and all positions on the PCB could theoretically accomodate a knob.
No, an 80% (TKL) and a 75% are different. Different layouts and usually 75%’s are just 65%’s + F row, less keys than full TKL layout.
As someone who spent more on custom keyboards than I’d like to admit. Layout = names, regardless of the amount of keys that are on the board.
TKL please. Just bought a Apex Pro TKL reluctantly but would kill for a Wooting TKL even if it's wired
Plz give us TKL wooting plz
I really hope for a tkl
Same here ^ I don't plan on buying a bigger Wooting than the UwU currently but I think that a TKL would be what would convince me 😁
+TKL pretty please
TKL is too large. 75% is the best option beetween 60% and fullKB: same keys as TKL but more compact and more (+more) options to custom build.
IMO keyboard market is pointed to a compact design: Wooting 75% will break it, just ask to Hipyo tech, Taeha types, Badseed tech, Optimum, ecc...
Yes 75% would be the purrfect size and I cannot wait for this…. my 60he is just to annyoing I miss F-Keys and the arrow keys in daily use… and I already double bindes the arrow keys etc. it is not the same… 75% would be endgame I guess I would buy 2 so if 1 breaks…
Literally just take the W2HE and chop off the numpad, you end up with a Drop CTRL with Lekker switches
