Hello i am trying to do case swap with my Wooting that i bought months back i unscrewed 4x screws and the last one seems to be chipped and cant be taken out. I didn’t chip it, It must have been manufacturing problem with the board. Any ideas what i can do? Its literally only 1 screw holding me back from taking out the pcb from board.

What uhh screwdriver are you using exactly?

Worst scenario, you can slide it off with a bit of pressure.

All 4 other screws went out fine with this size

#

Except the last one thats stuck xd and it seems chipped

rocky plover
#

No label. Doesn't really help. Using a PH1 is optimal, since it grips the screw properly. PH0 may work, but it can have issues

Was it already stripped before you tried to unscrew it?

So the bits are labelled. What does the one you're using say exactly?

solemn cipher
#

I used the one on the right in the middle, And yes it seems like it was because the other 4 were going out smoothly and easily except this last one.

(the stamping on oje of the sides)

#

We're looking for this marking

solemn cipher
#

Ah hold on

foggy lynx
#

But on the one you're using

solemn cipher
#

S2 PH00

rocky plover
#

Too small.

foggy lynx
#

There's the problem

rocky plover
#

TWO sizes at that 😄

solemn cipher
#

So which one should i pick from the screwdrivers? Because i dunno the other ones seemed to go without issue

rocky plover
#

PH1

foggy lynx
#

That's why it's stripped.
Now we need a way to remove it.

rocky plover
#

Same shape

solemn cipher
rocky plover
#

Look at all the bits shaped +

foggy lynx
#

Because of the screw being stripped, it might be a challenge, but try the correct bit (marked PH1) first. Push down firmly and turn at the same time.

solemn cipher
#

Ok i will give it a shot with this one xd

#

Seems too big or its chipped no idea

#

Doesnt wanna go out

foggy lynx
#

Yeah, it's stripped. That's why it's a challenge.
Can you remove the board though, maybe try lifting on the other end and sliding it out?
Use caution though, we do not want the keyboard to break

#

What you could try is find a slot bit that's as wide and use that. Since the far edges are likely still intact.

But i think it was manufacturing mistake because the other ones i had no issue and i used same pressure on all..

rocky plover
#

It may have been screwed in harder - But you definitely didn't help matters by using a screwdriver REALLY not designed for the screwhead.

#

Apply some real pressure down on the screw and try and get it loose.

#

If that doesn't work, you'll need to slide it off, and potentially damage the case slightly.

foggy lynx
#

Manufacturer mistake or not, we now need to remove and replace it.
Let's see what other methods we have on tap.

rocky plover
#

Still a lot better to swap than the PCB 😄

solemn cipher
#

Ok il try to apply more pressure

#

Yes that left side is the side being hold by that 1 screw xdd

rocky plover
#

Pull it that way

solemn cipher
#

It doesnt seem to be wanting to go down from that way

foggy lynx
#

You could try a slot bit too
I used 1.5 here

rocky plover
foggy lynx
#

I'd try this first tbh.

solemn cipher
#

So which screw should i look for? For the one you tried vio?

foggy lynx
#

I used a slot bit.
That fitted just between the edges
And then pressure + turn

solemn cipher
#

What is a slot bit? Is it different screw or what

foggy lynx
#

Blue is the bit basically
Yes, that's officially for a different screw

solemn cipher
foggy lynx
#

Ahh, I don't think you have them in this tiny

solemn cipher
foggy lynx
#

Maybe one on the bottom right
I used 1.5 myself

solemn cipher
#

Which one can u highlight xd i am unsure of screws

foggy lynx
#

See if one of these says 1.5

solemn cipher
#

S2 1.5

foggy lynx
#

That'll work

solemn cipher
#

Thanks bro it worked!

#

Finally xd

solemn cipher
#

When i will be screwing it back in i will use the spare screws xd that i got with wooting

rocky plover
#

Now so yourself a favour and throw it out.

#

You have two spares in a bag in the box.

foggy lynx
solemn cipher
#

Yes goodbye this screw xD

#

Thanks vio and anders 🙂

foggy lynx
#

No problem!

#

Glad I could help

solemn cipher
#

Just last question what screw set will you reccomend for the back screws of pcb? Xdd

rocky plover
#

Same as before. PH1
