a few years ago every manufacture changed the top housing mold to where north facing is compatible with cherry profile

so dont worry about north facing or south facing compatibility

it's a good mic, not really a question about that, but it isn't really worth spending that much on a mic unless you'll actually take full advantage of it. do you wanna have the mic pretty much right in your face? it's a low sensitivity dynamic mic, you're losing a lot of the advantages once you move it more than like.. 3 inches away from your face (having it pointed a bit below your mouth). also you should probably look at different parts of your setup first before spending that much on the mic. do you have any sort of room treatment? would highly recommend to add some

with overears you get a wider soundstage instead of everything sounding like it's playing inside your braincase
