isolation makes a big deal for sound from loudspeakers, keyboards, most mechanical things

my speakers use spikes that are very narrow, so it can't couple very well to the ground. for a keyboard that's not so good to destroy a wooden desk

basically vibrating stuff around keyboard/speakers makes resonances that are uneven and dont sound very good to your ears often

its the plate, i was not using any foam, which did not support the plate properly, and with the tight tolerances in the stablilizers, they stopped functioning as intended

problem now with my PC plate, is tht

the included foam does not include proper suppport for all the stabilizer keys

idek why the foam for the ansi plate is so cut down, maybe to offer compatibility for ISO plates?

still dumb and probably would have made more sense to make a better foam for each layout

I use to have this problem when i put bandaid at that spot in my hyperx origin 60 stabs

No and no I'm afraid.

Unlike the 60HE where there's a larger, shared standard among brands that we tapped into (meaning our case works with others and vice versa), there is no such standard for fullsized keyboards.

Also given the design of the 2HE (being a plate overhanging the bottom case, instead of being in a tray), would make it a very difficult product to design an aluminium case for. That being said there is a german company looking into such a project separately from us.

Was that FR4 plate from KBDFANS? Did you use the stock poron foam from the Wooting or what was included with the FR4 plate. My FR4 plate sounds better than stock metal but not as nice as my identical keyboard with PE foam mod and Boba 4UT switches. Did the tape mod make any difference?

Yes there is 🙂 final pre-prototype tested last night, we are making final adjustments to CNC design today and early next week will have first aluminium model of 2HE case. its 15mm thick on main case, brass hardware, adjustable height etc.

case design can be done cheaper or more expensive. aim RRP is around 200 for base version, 3d printed feet and trying to keep full fat version under 300 or around there with full brass hardware. Weight of case alone is 1.7kg so far, we can add more brass if people want it lol. Yes, just one on each side for the spacebar, and one in the middle for the other stabs

You have to be careful putting them in the middle, because by doing that, you’re placing it where the switch latches onto the plate , and if you don’t place it correctly then the switch won’t latch onto the plate properly and will either feel loose or just come out easily because only one side is able to latch down.

Gonna try it over the weekend and then see if I like it over the moleskin

Main thing I like about my moleskin is that I cut out the holes for all of the screws rather than just the stand off screws like the keebtape, so anytime I wanna remove my PCB, I have to take the keebtape off , vs my moleskin I could just leave it on

After further inspection, I actually think it was a good idea for me to put them on the plate

Because I don’t think the foam would’ve been thick enough to touch the wire from the PCB

So I’m not even gonna test them on the PCB cause I can visually see that the gap is larger and wouldn’t even touch the wire

I think with PCB screw in stabs, the placement would be better on the PCB vs the plate

Yeah, I'm using the FR4 plate from KBDFans, I'm using the stock plate foam from Wooting but the poron case foam from KBD that came with the Tofu Redux. With the tapemod on the PCB I find a lot of the higher pitched frequencies are cut out so the bottom out of the switches sounds really deep. The upstroke still sounds a little hollow and weak but there's no real way to resolve that since it's likely due to top housing material and stem wobble. A few users here have gone through the painstaking process of applying medical tape to the rails of the top housing to eliminate the plasticky upstroke sound.

The main reason why your build with the U4Ts sounds better is because the U4T switches have different materials for the switch, tigher tolerances as well, my U4Ts barely have any wobble even without switch films. I don't mind the sound of my modded Wooting now, the modifiers sound really deep but the alphas kinda sound like Mr Krabs walking.

I have my Vega and Ikki68 for day to day work, I only pull out the Wooting for playing games so at this point I'm pretty satisfied with the sound.

Hey thanks for the interest. Good news we finally 'taped out' the design if you are into computer hardware. Weight of case is ~1.7kg, we can add more brass if people want it. WIll know once final aluminium version milled next week. https://discordapp.com/channels/167181566978555904/984799440072220692/1174862504237744178 is final pre-prototype last night. 3d printed + brass. All the brass parts are done now and it's just waiting on the 3 axis to be free so we can mill the case. Should be early next week and then I can go visit Wooting NL with some pressies for them lol
