i thought about vinyl wrapping the case but it might be too hard to work with, since i dont have a heat gun

Sure, any mod has the potential for issues with low actuation points. For example I've seen people apply tape mod too hard and it warped the PCB a bit and caused issues.

i used to

when i first started

when i first started the first tape i use is masking tape

1 layer

then after like 2 months or so

i switched to Medical Tape (Gentle Paper Tape) 2 layers

then held that for like one month or two

then i switched to 3 layers

its serving me well
i dont really gotta worry about the switch anymore. All i have to do now is just depend on the other mod which im somewhat struggling with atm
