when you can have it for a third of that price I'd consider it more seriously š
i mean id obviously also go for a curta 2 with black housing
not gray
but prob hard to find
calculating with it is damn intuitive and satisfying tho
I'll get one eventually if I don't waste my muns on other dumb stuff
can only recommend getting one if your into this kinda thing
buy a mechanical wristwatch instead cheaper and u can wear them also have funny gears
well i bit the bullet on this one and already had money for if i need to send it to switzerland/austria for repair in one of the few repair shops for them
glad it wasnt a huge problem
no i mean the mechanical calculator
I am aware
7yrs i wanted one
I have a larabee es card so I could sell it to finance a curta...
ever since i saw it on wikipedia
the thing is all i would do is fidget and play with it, no actual application >.<
World's most expensive and slowest clicker?
maths is fun on anything
i desire mechanical contraptions in handheld form like that calculator
mayhaps there is some fancy fidget cube but mechanical
wristwatch with calendar function
Every single YouTube video I see on these causes me physical pain as it causes the price to increase
You want another one yourself lol
asmr maths on a curta
im willing to pay a few grand
yeah its not cheap, but for a first generation product with all those specs? many expected it to be double or so
like the whole assembly and workings of the curta just fascinate me
the fact someone thought of this in the worst place you could be at his lifetime
is just
amazing
You see the x-ray vid on it?
Zusammenbau einer Curta Rechenmaschine
Demonstration of CURTA calculator assembly
CURTA was manufactured from 1949 to 1971 at Contina AG in Mauren, Liechtenstein
CURTA history is displayed in the museum MuseumMura, 9493 Mauren, Liechtenstein
Website www.museummura.li
this
is amazing
literally assembling it from memory
warning german VO
603 parts total of which theres around 150 unique shaped parts
the curta 2 has even more parts
as it has more digits
its in german though*
cause it was made in german speaking countries
by an austrian guy with a lichtenstein company
no worries, love hearing it anyways <3
tru
Mechanical tech is so cool
You need to be a genius to figure out how to do that shit and make it easy to use
The CURTA calculator is a marvel of engineering and a favorite of collectors. This video describes in detail how the CURTA Type I calculator works. (The operating principles of all the CURTA models are the same as for the Type I.) This video was created using the YACS CURTA simulator, which you can play with at https://satadorus.eu/x_ite/yacs...
heres a video that explains the mechanical principles
english
danke
So itās something like Minecraft piston logic?
i hope this thing wouldn't be too expensive to ship back for repairs if shipped from usa
there is i think 2 people in the us who repair curtas
ah
i think the most expensive ones are literally anyone outside of the EU or NA
cause thats where all the repair people are
onlz 1 sort of beauty issue
the backside has a sort of worn spot
im not too bummed about that tho
Hmm this lense looks nice
Really nice
For casual outside building photos and such
For 3 grand the lens better be goddamn nice holy shit
The lens on the top of my wishlist is the 35-150
But it's f2-2.8 not constant aperture
And it's 1900 already
The other one I'm considering is the 70-300 is usm ii
It's around 400 used and very fast focusing at that price
Also works with all of my cameras through adapters
280-1200 f16-22 š¤¤
Y u do dis to deck
Sometimes you just gotta have windows :/
Nah
macOS>>
Yes it is better than nothing but some of us are trying to accomplish things... :P
Windows is for other computers. And would just hog hardware resources anyways.
Hi, as I said before, I wanna make a second concept again about AR OS, so here it is! š„ we are exploring AR OS right now! so enjoy it!
Other features of AR OS are still here, next we are reviewing it so, Stay Tuned guys!š and let's Subscribe with bells š to watch them!š¤
Oh ya! and donāt forget to Likeš and Comment guys!
So happy viewing!š

oo new video about ARos
You'd be surprised
THE FREAKING ANIMATIONS ARE SLICK AF AND I WANT THEM
If you install enough to reach feature parity with windows, Linux runs sloooow
Upnp discovery and remote display support on top of Ubuntu I believe is enough to make it use more resources
But windows has alooooooot of features that are not natively part of alot of Linux distros...
1 reboot only pcie device addition for example
you mean just automatic driver downloading?
why would it take more?
Which is possible with Linux but is very very much not the default
Have you ever changed GPUs?
tons and LOL windows is very much not once for GPUs at the least. AMD and Nvidia leave sticky folders and files
Unless you manually install and uninstall the drivers ahead of time it takes 3 reboots on linux
Wut
why so?
Dunno that's just what it does if it doesn't hardlock
And most often it just hardlocks
there's a reason why there's a tool like DDU, I'll just say that much. when changing out graphic cards it's good practice to start witha fresh clean slate.
But if you don't manually install drivers, you don't need to do that
well to be fair i hadn't tried switching out graphic cards with a linux
... who the fuck does that?
Last time I tried it outright bricked my install lel
who tf hotswaps GPUs
People with GPU docks?
I didn't even know hotplugging was a thing for GPUs. I have a cloud server and you hotplug whole entire computer boards but i've never heard of GPU hotplugs.
oh
of course
Thunderbolt?
bitcoin miners
or that
yeah
thats different
i thought you meant directly to the mobo
Bitcoin miners don't need or use GPU hotplug
Not to the software
they would if they fucked it up
but anyways
you nearly bricked your install with an external GPU?
couldn't ssh fix that or some shiz?
Flashy cursor after I tried to turn it back on
How would I ssh in?
I just swapped the windows install back in and it worked fine
Wcf and wwf are not used by games...
well the goal would ahve been to use a terminal to fix up whats wrong with the linux by accessing it's drive and such
I just gave up
I needed a device to quickly test gpus
And uh
If just live unplugging a GPU is enough to brick an install then I'm good
I'll just use windows
The reason I was trying to avoid windows is it took an hour to download the drivers for the old gpus
Now my internet is faster and so is the GPU driver autoinstall
which linux was it even?
Ubuntu
cause, I can tell ya : windows would throw a fit too if you yanked the gpu out
^
Linux
yeah I don't think ubunutu would have been prepared for that
Negatory
you saying I can pop out my GPU right from the PCIE slot and windows wont give a fuck?
If you have 3d apps open they crash
Besides that there are some windows that are black until you click on them
If it's connected via thunderbolt
again : depends on your distro. Arch got no problem with external GPUs https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/External_GPU
yes he said its possible but not the default
arch is extremely well known for their documentation but, uh, sure whatever i'll go find a video or whatever.
Oh wait
That page even says it doesn't work
"
Known issues with eGPUs on Xorg
hotplug is not supported with most discrete GPU Xorg drivers: the eGPU needs to be plugged in when Xorg starts. Logging out and in again should suffice to restart Xorg.
hot-unplug is not supported at all: doing so leads to system instability or outright freezes (as acknowledged in Nvidia docs).
"
if you combine features of all linux distros you might be at what windows has but then its not really default comparisons as well
If you pop out the GPU outta the socket while the PC's running, where's your display output then
In what scenario would you want to do that
Internal display of the laptop?
You don't run egpu on a desktop unless you are renderfarming
That's p good but phone still better
read that again
Oh fair enough I just saw the beginning of the convo and I thought this was about PCs
...
Look
Test it yourself and lmk if you can actually get it to work
If the wiki itself says no I'm gonna say it doesnt
give me a thunderbolt external GPU and I will gladly test it.
also
you aren't reading it
it says no for specific drivers
not ALL DRIVERS
Known issues with eGPUs on Xorg

I don't beleive you are reading it
Second half fam
linux compatibility with more niche and esoteric hardware is the main gripe I have with linux, you can typically get the common things like consumer gpus etc working alright but a pro audio interface or something is a gamble
Well phone way more zoom
Oh yea and I can't use any kernel after 3.17 thanks to my ssds no longer being supported
Which is also real fantastico
that part does not say only on xorg
The Wayland section is even worse
"
Wayland support for eGPUs (or multiple GPUs in general) is much less tested now, but should work in theory
"
whatever
What de does work lmao
you are just going to beleive whatever so i don't care
if you use wayland I also hope you dont want to use something like obs that has year long known issues
Speak for yourself
šæ
I will absolutely wipe my windows install on my laptop if people say thunderbolt is fully functional on linux
dude there is literally nothign stopping you just partitioning 10 GBs off a drive and testing it
i don't h8ave your hardware to test it on my arch distro
Bitlocker
Secure boot
what about those?
my windows has Secure Boot too
my laptop has Windows 11 and I still dualboot linux on it.
Reasons I can't repartition my drive
you can UEFI linux
i don't see how you can't re-partition your drive
use windows to shrink the volume space
You can't if you have secure boot to bitlocker fully enabled
I'd have to doublecheck bitlocker but secureboot has never been an issue to me personally in my setups. also can, just, disable it to no ill effects.
Requires complete wipe first which I'm not doing till an admin on egpu-io says it'll work for sure
I kept flicking switches till every security setting besides thunderbolt dma was enabled
are you absolutely positively sure you simply just cannot use the windows partition tool built into windows and shrink the volume a tad?
thats total ass honestly. why would you allow your system to even be like that?
So that if someone yoinks my drive they don't have access to my data?
that's valid sure, yeah.
though like
modern laptops no longer have latches and buttons to easily push out the drive and run off with them.
Last time I setup the laptop was before COVID so I was still traveling
right but they could just take the whole thing
Yes I mean the entire laptop
Bios is pass protected but can boot without bios pass
alright was just checking. the windows login itself is ass and bypassable.
Not so much any more
If you have secure boot and bitlocker it isn't which is the whole point of secure boot and bitlocker
well the thing is though ... hold on i'm pretty damn sure you can still use the windows tool to do it, cause its windows itself doing the partitioning and not some other tool.
i'mma look it up
A complete encrypted drive will not allow you to shrink it
If you thin encrypt it (bitlocker default) or native SSD encrypt it you still can
okay yeah i checked. damn thats annoying
you can disable and turn it off at the least though
It's an anti VM security feature
Yea I'm sure
But that's a pain and I'm sure there are 10 other security features that I randomly enabled that also cause problems
well. can always do a back up and do it which yeah, pain the butt.
do you have a whole spare drive perhaps?
or mayhaps an external drive?
could try testing a liveBoot version and see if that works.
or if you have an external drive, install and boot an external linux
Could do that
But it's already live booting windows...
well you would just turn off the machine first.
No I mean the flash drive
0h. lmao what, really? runnign it through a usb?
Yap
Windows will happily boot you to it and it's fantastic for troubleshooting
And it works great for troubleshooting random hardware
Omg USB c is such a mess
USB c is basically the Mac of ports
The more you pay the more basic features you get
What specifically isn't working now
Apple would never give you that much choice
Right
Ok it's the Linux of ports, everything is optional and might not work together
no, apple gives plenty of choices. up to 50 thousand dollars worth of choices for your cheese grater.
For those it works for it's beautiful
For the rest of us it's hell
wheels optional paid dlc
Well lot of money choices but not lot of feature choices
Imo that's fine
what was it, 600 or 900 dollar for CASTER wheels?
What's not fine is vesa optional
Shh luxury goods
don't say that near australia
you'll probably double the costs of that apple machine.
I just want a short USB c to USB c
I have like 3 of those I got included with various devices
I have one and I wish I didnāt
Or well I wish it was longer.
But donāt have any other with me to charge camera batteries inside camera
Same
Probably USB 2 speeds
i want a decently length UCB C to USB A that transmits data because the ipad I regretably bought refuses to cooperate with acknowleding it's plugged into a computer unless i find specific cables that it's too picky about like it's asking for exact temperature water bottles.
Nah all mine are 3.1 compatible and I've tested them up to 1GB/s
Well I haven't had any devices that were USB c to USB c
All my long cables are only USB 2
But the short ones are all full speed
I got one with this enclosure but it's USB A
I've only used my usb-c to usb-c for getting fastcharge out of my powerbank
My friend the live windows install
USB C to MagSafe
I've got 1 better
Outright magnetic USB c
Wish that existed as a standard
China has it as a standard
is there much point if you still have to insert it into a port
Specification: Product name: USB C Magnetic Adapter 100% Brand New with High Quality. Color: 1 Colors available Compatible Model: Perfect Compatible with MacBook Pro 16'' (96W),MacBook Pro 15'' (87W), MacBook (29W/30W), Matebook, Dell XPS, Docking Station, Hub, Samsung Galaxy Book, iPad Pro 2018-...
oh those things
You put the magnetic adapter on all your cables and ports
Well yes but ports themselves being magnetic would be even better
Yep
This one even runs thunderbolt
I've used it for an external gpu
Without needing anything else
I actually prefer this since you can replace the port if it breaks
But you have something constantly sticking out of the port which sucks for small devices
I donāt really like it ngl, but worse with phones
You tried it?
Especially if you are lying down and phone is vertically on you, just like with charger cable itās uncomfortable
It's insanely nice
Not on phone but something similar
It was nice but sticking out annoyed me
Port itself being magnetic is great for that
Its not quiiiite flush with the case but it's close
Reminds me, today magnets have decided to try a rebellion against me
I have had a MagSafe phone case and it is rather fallen apart with basically no silicone left. And magnets on it are basically dead.b
And today I was on an airport and i was pulling out my phone holding it by case.
And suddenly my phone fell out of the case on the very hard ground of the airport
That's the opposite of the cable problem
Well I was relying on magnets and they failed me
Like if you tried to lift your phone by the cable
And it fell down
Or well I wasnāt relying just on magnets also case itself
But both failed
Somehow my phone still has no cracks
Despite the fall being rather audible
I thought it has to be broken
With such small magnets the point is you can't even pull your phone off a table with the magnets
Well the glass
Well with MagSafe you normally could and should be able to but not with my case
One thing that annoys me about laptop MagSafe
Itās too easy to disconnect by lifting up or down
That's apples problem not this USB c adapters problem
Sometimes when not on straight surface easy to accidentally disconnect
I know
I'm rather impressed mine hasn't shattered from all the drops its suffered too, not even using a case
My 6 s plus, previous phone survived a lot of falls since back wasnāt glass
But with this phone I really donāt want to risk anything
Lel why would you want to

oh they have someone called jerry show it, I thought it's the name for the psu lol
Introducing the Jerry - Rig
@YouTubeCreators Hey guys, can you please fix this? This is a product review of a video card. Why on earth are you restricting its visibility? You're hurting the video performance and consumer awareness for something which is fully suitable for all ages - https://t.co/IaBjhohNJF
intel gpus too dangerous to be seen by children
I swear youtube has completely fucking lost it lately
ohhh it might be the ad spot for their new shirt
maybe some ai thought its an actual skeleton or smth instead of a print lol
they need to nuke their "community moderation" department from orbit and start over
They need human people to actually review these AI flags before pulling the trigger
Maybe it's just such bad hardware it's not safe for kids?
@ashen spindle those thingies ATX 3.0 compliant?
the psus?
they only just showed them, dont think it has spec sheets out yet
I assume many will launch a bit before the gpus are out
Ya no point buying a psu atm without 3.0 compliance/pcie 5.0
I think may need more than my current 660w with zen 3 5800x and say 7700 xt
Tho I have no idea
well
hard to say given the gpu aint out yet lol
top end going high in power makes it even harder to guess how they segment the power draw in lower models
Yea š idk how much a lower end model pulls during transient loads
what are you looking to get, 3090/6900xt performance at lower point? if so I'd just estimate some 30% lower power draw for that
at which point your psu would suffice
heh
Did you check whether your monitor has a new firmware available, ppl saying they fixed the processing lag
im looking from time to time, the one on the website is still from february
Weird
who claims its fixed/changed?
some random dude on zaunkoening discord and he claims ppl claim that on some monitor discord that it was fixed on the later batches/fw
xd
perfect xD
Tho I'd very much like to know for sure bc that'd mean it's buyable for me
is @ashen spindle waiting for a compiling job again?
oh god thats annoying and boring
Go unity Go unity
so, lots of waiting for editor to open, see no warnings, test the test scene, close, commit, rinse and repeat
When do I get alpha access to your game
who says quint is creating a game
ME
when we get past prototype for one of the games and not stuck on creating application lol
If it uses a game engine then it's a game!
sure :p
company is half research software and application stuff, the other is trying to grab funds for game dev
I will consider that a deal then
but dont you know? quint's game will display lockscreen ads!
prob and prob NFT's
no the nfts only if the screen detected is a qdoled since I then know you have money to spend š
btw today don't miss it (ik you don't care) xD
still ont hat ey

still a bit unlikely, seems more like copy paste comment and in reality its more for CDNA

What?
How do you even search using TikTok or Instagram
Like I belong to Gen Z and I use neither
Well more recent gen Z especially
Ngl I am kinda confused about the information stuff
But then I have to admit someitmes some of these are my only news sources since I donāt really read news and there some news tend to just show up
I saw that too, and I think it's just a theory for the data of usage demographic of those...
to make an interesting (and viral) story
well you could also open the article and see what exactly they are talking about...
true, but didn't š
You know them minecraft hacks on tiktok most them are fakes
With stuff like places for lunch as mentioned in article someone made a good point with lot of fake reviews and especially ads on Google, so you donāt get truly best results but results of pages who paid the most
Tbf same can happen on TikTok
But if you have reputable sources there
I am just an average joe, and all the comments I can think of are bigger than me. So I will just say, they would know better
why vine failed and tiktok succeeded, or with all the resources bing couldn't do anything...
what isn't fake on tiktok
oo, Github selling trans pride merch :D
ikr
was a joke cause he wont
he doesnt give 2 shits about what u identify as
the only shit he gives is about not using cpp as far as i know
no as i said he doesnt give a shit thats why
true
hes basically what every company should aspire to be
he only cares about the linux kernel and keeping it clean in c without evil cpp
companies should also only care about making their platform as good as possible without useless junk
I hate summer.
Delta of 30 is pretty high and it looks like it goes higher...
That's pretty bad, is it an aio?
Yeowch
What OC? š
Well then not I guess
5600x can only draw like 130w when ocd
I could get 11900k to run at 90c yet coolant never went above 30 or even 25 but that wasnāt summer
Ask them more nicely
Arctic's don't have RGB.
I have 3, 360 rads that are... 30mm? thick. Standard.
Arctic has RGB versions
76W is stock ppt for that so uhh, that's not looking too great year
Strange
it should be 88
You should see our florida computers during summer
30mm is thinnish
I wish my gpu ran cooler
but on release they all had 76, after I tried to get through amd and gigbyte they pushed it to each other who controls that and it ended nowhere
I have my fans set to hit 100% at 40c coolant
It never really gets over 35
I've seen some that seem to reach 88w but on same agesa I still have 76 so it's a mess
that thing in hwinfo? yeah its as it should be
also checked it with someone else, and ryzen master shows it to be set to 76 too etc.
sigh
AMD why
I mean that also should have been caught in QA from the bios I'd say
but yeah it's some mess
On a completely unrelated note, I just got some more headphones
Closed back
Sennheiser
Actually very good (better than hd820)
Guess what they are
pink? broken?
i only let me fans run at 100% if it reaches to 80
you def don't wanna stress the lifespan of your fans by making them run high when its not needed
.... and it also gets loud as fuck
my video card is too loud
i wish it ran cooler so i wouldn't ahve to spin the fans so much š
Water temp
idunno if they still make water blocks for my GPU
also my case isn't exactly made for water cooling
Mansen obviously doesn't have that problem
Indeed.
My case isn't made for water cooling either but I made it work
lmao
my case can do a few radiators
but i was talking
actual water pumps and such
which si what you need for GPUs
not a AIO water cooler for CPUs
oh wait
nvm i see the hoses in the picture
dang yeah you really went wild jungle with that set up lol
i could probably maybe do the same for mine. it's a big lan box that opens from the top. so, like. maybe could do a thing on the top side.
you mean the nothing to hide europeans that have and want stricter privacy laws than americans?
Which is why american businesses can't be bothered to comply with EU law
not even that, gl trying to get a camera on your door that watches anthing more than a cm infront of your door and even that only with explicit signs warning about it
So they just geoblock us
yeah
the zucc literally threatens to shut down operations here for not being able to hoard our data freely
I wish we had some laws from Europe, namely laws that'll settle down some of the companies here. and also get rid of lobbyism and legal bribery.
cause then, you know, we wouldn't have video games that is gambling for children.
Tfw you can just wire up some buttons to a Pi and make one yourself for like what, 30$?
I guess the software would take some tinkering to do
lol
ping me when it looks even remotely close to what razer offers
shit argument
Buttons, knobs, and software are all hard
As is fit and finish
Why buy a house when you can build one yourself
Not that any of us can afford to buy a house but shh
I work indirectly for a bank, and when there is a robbery, there is no footage to provide to the police, only inside the branch, you can't even direct camera to the pavement...
It seems like you are a bit misinformed...
The customer doesn't even have to tell if he/she is married or not... Data-wise, europe is really hard to work with š
Yeah europe is big on privacy.
In Turkey, when I enter the ID number, from address to all other bank details, all are integrated and shown in an instant
tech wise it's decades ahead of here
but yeah, for that your privacy is the price
I wouldn't call that ahead really for that reason
I mean there are so many benefits, everything is finished in seconds
the easiest example might be SEPA
it takes at least half a day to transfer money
oh I know, being a glass person to google and all that makes it incredible convenient to do anything etc.
lets not say better tech but better convenience
yeah that fits
I am not for it though, I better have privacy
same
for all the shit I give german IT, some part does come from extra steps for privacy
I literally pay Google to store more data
it's convenient, that's for sure
And very cheap relatively speaking
you can run your own mail-server, cloud etc. and not for much money, or energy
real progress is if we get to the point that some reliable and useful homomorphic encryption can be used and worked with
The backup solution is the problem
Private cloud is expensive
$21 a month for 250tb of storage, website, email, sso, and a ton of other things is really just good
Automatic backups on all my devices, email encryption and signing, certs galore and domain registration included for that price
Also you get the privilege of getting your own dedicated ai engines for search and ads
Screw you lmao
why do I have shit internet
pls help
maybe a bit random:
i'm looking for a (party)speaker for: homegym / outside / pool / workshop ...
been looking at the jbl partybox 110 and 310
does anyone have experience with these?
what i can tell from reviews, the 110 seems to have better highs ; 310 is louder, more bass and longer battery life
@neat oriole
If it's being used outside maybe get the one with more bass and battery life
Since you might not be near a power plug
ye, kinda my thoughts too
tbf, with i outside i mostly mean in the garden / terrace lol .. so there should always be power
should have described it a bit better ig
I donāt know anything about big Bluetooth speakers for parties
ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ worth a shot
Who needs their os to have a good audio mixer when you have a real audio mixer :P
i want a roland midi
hands-on control is always neat
picked this bad boy up for $80
hooked it up between my dac and amp which are both balanced
mine does too
š
now technically it only has a 4x4 matrix
but thats plenty for me
guessing its quite common on recording interfaces nowdays, but was somewhat of a novelty when this thing launched
and yea this isnt a recording interface its a mixer
$80 not too bad for a 20-channel mackie
if there's one thing I've learned to avoid from behringer its their copypasta mixing consoles
even better then
wish I had space for something like that
yeah that's another hurdle should I ever end up with a headset
alright
2 dacs attached and normalized when at 100% windows volume
Hunh
I really thought my Scarlett 2i2 was alot worse than my sdac b quality wise
But when I normalize their volumes with a 1khz sine they should identical
good quality dacs aren't that scary expensive these days
since they're so widespread in just about any consoomer digital audio capable device
its almost more common to see corners cut on the analog part of the signal chain now
well it converts the digital signal to an analog one, but that analog signal is then typically sent through opamps and/or amplifier circuits to bump the level to line or whatever loudness needed for the listening equipment
Yea and because the Scarlett has volume control on top of that, I thought that was the reason it sounded worse
But nope
They were just different volume
its very common for manufacturers to skimp on the parts used for the output stage, which is a bit odd because decent clean sounding opamps aren't that pricey either nowadays
Yap
my trusty fireface uc has been with me since 2008 and pretty much never had a problem
sound investment
Ok I figured it out
If I max out the 2i2s balanced out it starts clipping hard
(I know it's not the mixer or amp because the sdacb is alot hotter)
Also the mixers output amp is super noisy even balanced
now im unsure if my 2i2 scarlett purchase was shit
nah its a decent unit, the main outs on recording interfaces like this are typically intended to be connected to external amplifier and speaker like active studio monitors, so there's no point in cranking the output level all the way
I've set my monitor levels to a point where it gets too loud for comfort somewhere past 60% of the interfaces master volume so it never goes anywhere close to overloading the monitor ins
so, this picture I found on the internet can perfectly describe what the woot boards are all about
i just treated those boards as just a board with nice switches for putting text into an editor
That's what I have been lately rocking
I've got that board in US layout
Actually I have both the original and the new one.
I prefer the ANSI layout but in Europe that is a pain and I am not paying the extortionate shipping costs so I went with a UK layout because otherwise I would have to live with the QWERTZ layout.
Works great as long as I don't max out the volume knob
You are probably gonna be fine
I am kicking myself in the back for not buying a angled connector with that board because if I did I could have it almost flush against my monitor's stand (Lenovo Legion Y27Q-20)
I have on on the way, should be here by monday. I switch keyboards extremely common when I work so having this thing out of the way is pretty important.
I got this guy as well which is really nice for mixed usage
heh, i was also looking at this board, but i went with a keychron k3 instead
Just realized I probably should have looked for a kvm switch during prime day and not now
The TrackPoint is something I cannot love without
I use a trackball for everything. MX Ergo.
However I'm fine with using and enjoy the track point

interesting typo š¤
i think they mean they can only love someone if they also use a trackpoint

Phew... flipping some of my fans around and installing a 10th fan dropped me over 10c.
No more 80C CPU and 45C coolant.
3 sets of 3 for my three radiators.
The 10th is a fan mounted to the back next to the IO.

Not that impressive uplift but sizeable
Funny how competitive 3D Vcache is honestly
5800X3D should compare pretty favourably to the 7000 series lineup
Also why did we skip 6000 series

hmm, this seems a bit off
why are the mobile data and BT toggles massive ass circles?
and why arent the corners rounded on the recents screen?
and why is the screenshot and share buttons missing too?
is that some chynese droid or somethin
It's the Nothing Phone(1) from Nothing
That company Carl Pei from OnePlus started
They are offering 3 years of Android updates and ship stock and bloatfree Android, so thats nice...but those quick toggle seem off to me

aha, taking apart the Phone(1)
What's the arrow pointing to? you dont usually see it unless you take the back glass and layers off
is nothing an other oppo spinoff?
Yeah, a 400 euro phone with the specs of a 250 euro phone
not going to compete with an iPhone
400? 250? what does that even mean
The specs are roughly the same as one of the Samsung A series phones, and that A series phone costs 270 euro
ah
very easy to get there depending on what hardware it is
and very hard if youre running on like a celeron lmao
Then again my fans are low
One is coiled.
That's literally it.
So are pretty keycaps.
It's an aesthetic choice.
It's a 5600X and I am about 99% sure it's running AMD's fake temperature boosting they use to make their stock coolers spin up. And it's definitely boosting cause I'm using a custom loop - the heat bleeds off of it fast enough for it to be voltage locked not temp locked.
I don't know about you but my keyboard cable is pretty fucking visible all day long š
In the year I've had my keycaps I have never more than glanced at them?
I foucs on keycaps even less since I have my hands above what I press
You can make a themed setup with a sleeved (coiled) cable as well.
Mansen knows very well about themes š
I have NO idea what you're talking about.

If I ever find a reason to replace my current cable this is going on it for sure.
bruh this looks like the series of pixelated cyberpunk city animated wallpapers I have
It's supposed to. I had an artist custom make it from inspiration ahead of the Cyberpunk 2077 release. Entire build is themed around it.
Dig in - Or don't. I'm not a cybercop.
Was gonna say tbf cyberpunk is a universal thing XD
i like that the ventilation is also rain
yeah i wasn't meaning cyberpunk the specific game but in general the theme. but eitherway : is nice š
And then the game sucked
Eh. I enjoyed it thoroughly on launch. My biggest gripe is lack of content.
Didn't have any game breaking bugs until they started patching the shit out of it ironically.
the game didn't suck too much. there was enough enjoyment for the price of admission.
but it was a disservice to the original source : which was ALL ABOUT THE SHOPPING and loadout.
you had : some guns. some augs. some hacks and decks.
in the tabletop there was shitloads
also if you wanted to, say, fir the first time you play go heavy machine gun and shotgun : YOU ARE HORRIBLY PUNISHED
you get ONE GUN
heh, yeah. the guns we weird. just a few models and just different stats and skin
where's the fancy rocket and grenade launcher stuff.
were's our, like. decker drone robot shit
i guess it also makes it easier to pick a gun play style
where's our lwoering of humanity by junking our body with cybernetics
is that a batterypack?
really
why do you need an extra ssd?
is 512 not enough?
maybe im not playing enough of the cool games..
he didnt get the 512 model
and replacing the internal ssd is not as easy since they didn't use the 2280 factor that almost every pc m2 has
and the short laptop ones are harder to get
ah right, he got the smaller one. but he also got a 1tb sd card
ah. right
well still, normal form factor and you could jam in a 4tb ssd and partition it half windows half steamos
I won't use it much but I mostly did this for fun
As for the m2
The steam deck has made getting a 2230 incredibly hard to get
Can't duel boot steam os without it being a fuck ton of hassle

Valve being valve designed it so it needs the entire drive, not just partition
Saw this
I'm quite interested in this haha
Eh....QLC vs TLC doesn't matter if you're just playing games.
Wouldn't get such a big SATA SSD at any rate.
sata?
I thought we were talking about Pleasant's parasite drive?
im talking about the reddit picture
š
ohgodwhat
That thread just shows how stubborn Valve were to get exact dimensions at cost of user friendliness. You could have made the case like a couple of mm thicker and 2280 would have fit perfectly. With a bit more room for cooling everywhere to boot.
2280 drives cost more and you would have needed to get extremely creative with mounting
A 2230 is ez to just mount to the pcb
You've taped it to the back.
tbh you could take most modern sata bricks and jsut 3d print a smaller case since they are mostly empty inside
I refuse to believe that 2280 sticks - being the single most popular form factor is more expensive than 2230.
The velcro is still tape š
2230 is more expensive atm aye
I can assure you they are
2230 drives are by far the cheapest at least when buying bulk
It comes off like nothing
Ah you missed that part where I specifically said CUSTOMER FRIENDLY š
retail prices for us != prices for laptop/valve manufacturers
Valve had to cut corners to hit 400
it's easy to replace the SSD. that hasn't a thing to do with current supplies for it though.
they could have soldered it on š
Cutting corners rarely gets you longterm fans - And Valve has always had the reputation of being by gamers - for gamers. Even if it costs a bit more š
2230 went up like 50-80%
Since deck
they had to cut what they could for manufacturering in a massive hardware shortage timespan.
Would make it more expensive actually
50-80%... what? price? availability?
Yes
For gamers
Not for enthusiasts
It has Microsd because it's for gamers
argh let me pause gifs discord
I kinda wish I got a 2230 before but I didn't wanna invest in the deck before I got it
they aren't trying to Pull a Sony and not give a fuck.
You don't have to be a fucking enthusiast to want a larger drive xD
how is using a 2230 instead of a 2280 a result of hardware shortages?
remove it
Valve wants to get the Steam Deck to people that want it.
My friend cut up a 2280 too and it works (some just have a plain board to fit 2280)
That's what the Microsd is for
remove it
Changing harddrives and SSDs was literally my bread and butter as a technician aside from "hurr durr I brokeded my LCD / keeb"
no it's the overall chip shortages of the past few years in general for all hardware. because covid and other current restrictions.
Ah yes - The slow as molasses drive š
Fast enough for games the deck can run
Again
Gamers not enthusiasts
Laughs in transfer speeds and game downloads
and how does that relate to valve using a 2230 m2 so that you cant put in a 2280?
write speeds bad, read speeds decent
[ When the WIFI isn't the reason why your game takes 8 hours to install ]
Microsd can saturate a 100mbps connection
Heck a 200mbps connection
i never said it did?
I was talking about : the SSD is easy to swap out. availability of the ssd is different.
There are microsds that can take half gig down
i don't know why you are asking me about why they chose the smaller ssd over the other
which, makes sense because it's a handheld device
it uses less power
makes less heat.
so
what
makes the most sense.
Wrong
the smaller drive uses more power?
then I don't mind being corrected on that.
if anything a smaller one would cause more heat since it's less space but I doubt it changes really
but size is still important factor
Modern cheapo drives are literally 2230s with extenders on the back
That's why so many people are cutting up their 2280s to fit in the deck
well it's worse for heat to stick the ssd over a already burning hot component
eh.. whatever :p
i can see windows being useful on it
Also more importantly
I'm not aware of any 64gb 2280 emmc modules
Oh dear - If only there was a way to support both 2230 and 2280 sticks.
Only for destiny in my case
Like .... multiple screws or some wacky concept like that.
But honestly 80% of it is just for fun
That takes up a ton more PCB space
I play destiny over remote play
No it fucking doesn't - Returning to my argument about allowing 2280 support resolves that entirely š
Mansen that is incorrect
You've got nothing but bare PCB to put in additional screws.
Yes
Bare PCB instead of being able to use it for idk power delivery?
Eh these SSD speeds are shit
Ah yes - Running hot lines next to a hot component.
š„³
Is what literally every board does
Oh and the penalty is 2x because you can't put anything on the back either

LITERALLY EVERY BOARD
That area sure looks pretty fucking bare.
That's not a quanta laptop?
Excluding the grips it's still the thickest handheld
and, as shown on the insides : the space that a 2280 would go into would go into a very hot spot where there's like, a thermal pad i think it was.
10GBs would be fine for most SSDs running OS right, I know the answer but I don't trust my brain.
it's pretty thin for what it is. for what it is
well yes nobody said valve should take just the current design change nothing and just support 2280 in that area
the problemis if you do that you have to move a thing and if you move a thing you have to move more things
They should have designed for 2280 in the first place is what they mean
yes
and since gpd and others showed it's possible I trust valve engineers to be competent enough to do something on the same level in a bigger device
aye, they probably at one point did had designed for it. but whatever reason they didn't.
Regardless tho that would have increased the price of the machine
it was, again, probably so as to keep the device relatively compact.
cause, again : size
it's legit not that much thicker than a switch
as I said, there are smaller devices that have a 2280
And valve was really trying to get down to Nintendo pricing
and if another semi-random company does it I'm confident valve can do the same
they have to make pricing accessible.
price is more likely the reason yes
other ultra mobile computers have always been stupidly expensive and always failed because of that
but given they also said they expected the cheapest model to sell much more and the expensive one sold a lot more than they expected, I think the cost difference for that would have been fine
i do love they gave multiple options
The SSD being socketed instead of soldered is a cost saving measure btw
It's not socketed to be replaceable
It's socketed to cheapen PCB assembly
makes sense
I don't think thats the case
to have it soldered would go against what they said was their mission statement about the device.
It's a Hallmark of Qantas cheaper designs
they wanted it repairable, upgradable. they wanted it to be a PC. not a mobile device.
Remember
This isn't valve manufactured
Just designed
Quanta is who makes the pcb
same as most companies.
And quantas cheaper platforms are all replaceable ssd
also easier to mix an dmatch the different ssd sizes
Quanta is also the reason for no PCB schematics
Because quanta reuses aloooot between different vendors...
Its not intentionally replaceabke
It's accidentally replaceable
I don't see how you can demonstrate that.
it's a socket.
thats intent of being able to take out and put in something.
not accident.
Find a quanta design over $500 with a soldered ssd
and you have no evidence that Valve requested soldered and got socketed. or vise versa.
It's not replaceable
you're making unsubstantiated claims.
There is not ONE SINGLE quanta design that cheap with soldered ssd
Exactly zero
that means it would cost more to make one with soldered ssd
What I've been saying is basically this
says it's not replaceable. but the ssd is replaceable you are not making any sense.
so what if it costs more?
That's very much not what I said
I am very exact with my wording
it sitll doens't change they went with socketed and you are saying it was an accident. that's impossible for it to be an accident.
No
They went with the cheapest design
That happened to be using a socket
That's not the same as the nothing phone
I wish there was two USB c ports on the deck
dont we all š¦
show me they didn't order a custom PCB or such
cause it sounds like you're pulling this out of your ass
based on assumptions from other PCB designs
that would still cause it to cost more since they would not be able to copy from their cheap boards
Von
You know full well ndas cover non public info
And quanta ndas specifically cover that...
The proof is in the pudding
Find a cheap quanta with a soldered ssd
The proof I submit is they don't exist
yeah I know full well that. which is why i'm calling you out that you have no way of knowing that information.
it's called inferring
thats why i'm saying you are asssuming the information
You have no way of knowing it
𤷠you claim it's possible to make a design that cheap that is soldered...
And I'm asking you to back it up
no the fuck I didn't. You are saying they picked the cheapest PCB that was accidentally the socketed one and such.
you are the one making claims in how they made a choice in these matters.
stop being dishonest
Valve did say they cheapest out on everything they could
you haven't shown a damn thing
Watch the interviews
They keep saying that...
and?
I don't think anyone is disputing that the deck was a huge pain to make that cheap...
did they say picked a socketed SSD because it was the cheapest or because it wasn accident?
Soldered chips seem to be better for pricing for companies
Especially more practical for small devices
Not for quanta apparently
Find a cheap quanta device that is soldered
Deck made by quanta
Qed not soldered
I donāt think thatās true tbh, but may be
irrelevant on other products. we're talking about the Steam Deck.
you claim it was an accident based on cost factors.
I don't play Whataboutism.
Why can't all games have customization of what to install
Wanting to install mass effect legend edition but only the first one
that depends on the developers.
Watch now, Apple remove the SIM removal tool in the box
and everyone follows
you buy a new phone, cant eject the SIM tray
Heck even compal, the masters of cost cutting don't solder ssds
what is a sim removal tool
people followed apple removing the phone jack after they said it was useless outdated tech. they'll follow with without a removable sim tray lol
the pokey thingy
dont you just need needle or anything and can do the same
alternative paperclip*
ah yeah looking at images, I threw that thing away
Phone manufacturers can't recommend that lol
yeah....I fucking hate those big ass bubbles
some phones include a little tool that can do it because they don't want people to accidentally scratch their phones with a paperclip that is just a little too big.
well yeah any other not very sharp metal stick that size also works
the ones above the brightness slider
