There is no physical fucking board - I am talking about theoretical boards here. 😄
I am literally digging through decade old backups from a Mac disk that has been used on several machines.
so whats left of enter on iso danish
Now THAT I can answer
cause thatll be above enter on iso in most cases
unless ur keyboard has some special sauce keycodes
You've got our delightful regional characters and * and ^
I had to swap the Ä and Ö keys on my steels keycap set because danskjävlarna put them in the wrong place
bastards
Most nordic boards have all three variants in sublegends.
yeah, steels only light up the Æ and Ø on these kaps tho
the others are just printed on

that's kinda my only real complaint about the caps though, feels nice to type on and rather like the look
thats why i dont use keycaps
type on stems directly
makes u more accurate and full backlight
just cut the hardware middle man and go projected http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0550/0751/0786/products/LaserweissbeideHande.jpg?v=1643327706

u still got a hardware middleman tho
touch free tm
any idea how to lower the latency on the lazer keyboard? I'm not getting enough cps /s
yes
cut the wire for wireless
and then
desolder the swiTches
bridge the contacts with ur fingers
wet them first
instant
ez
should i plug myself into the computer to charge my brain?
dw about the slight tingling
I see I am not the only one with a crunched up and haired up keyboard
All of those crumbs add flavour to the typing tactiliness
I wasn't going to get up to grab an ANSI board to check output in my layout. I sure as hell wasn't going to spend half an hour cleaning my board for a quick pic, weeks before my monthly cleanup 😄
?
I have seen ppl do that with powerbanks
at least it's not the terminal keybaord layout
i own this one, but it uses an RJ45 jack.
Neat. Time to convert it to USB
I fucking swear... My uncle is the messiest guy ever. This 160GB drive somehow manages to have actual OS and document data from at least a handful of VERY different machines.
Old Mac/Older Mac/Even Older Mac/ISOs for games that came out before DVDs/

I mean what the hell 😄
already did. expensive adapter though. but is fully reprogramable.
Could have bought a micro controller and done it internally.
i'm techy but have no experience with soldering yet
plus a part of me didn't want to do anything permanent
Fair.
I've got an old Apple keyboard from... 89? Still have to get around to giving it a clean and convert it to USB.
also yeah older operating systems installed through floppies, legit didn;t consume that much space back then.
oh nice
They sure did. I have uhh.... 5 binders of old 3½ diskettes.
I don't see a problem here...

oldest mac I got is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhh what was it...... it's a G... G4 I believe. PowerPC. It's the middle one that can have both the OG old OS and ten or 11 I believe.
macintosh!
Black and White baby
heck yeah
the only apples i like is the old stuff X3
is this the model with the HD?
This is a pre-release prototype from Apple's danish office. My uncle and coworkers used it to translate all of the Mac software manually. Hence four binders of disks.
It has - everything.
oh thats coolio indeed!
This year is the first time I used Mac, all windows before that. Since intel 486 I guess
still has the autographs on the inside?
i've never owned an apple computer in any modern time. it's only been school usage or wanting to collect retro stuff.
Haven't had time to take it part. All I know is that it still runs - gotta make sure no caps are leaking or anything. It's going to a museum.
careful then : the analog components are finnicky with those models.
keyboard looks really beautiful
the cap on the backside of the monitor can be adjusted but it's not exactly tightly fitted, so during movement it could wobble. so if you open it make sure it's sitting there tight at least.
the analog board will be sitting sideways flushed against the case : thats the thing that commonly has the most malfuctions.
My other Classic. This one is dead, so I've been gutting it and putting in a Raspberry Pi (This pic was just to check size and volume). Got an iPad LCD and an adaptor so it has new life... whenever I get the last 3D printed parts done and get it assembled again.
i hope you didn;t throw out the parts.
Naw. Saved everything in case someone can use anything some day.
666666
yeeeee
I had ot my G4 to the side
getting it to dualboot was proving to much a pain in the asss
i want to it to run that classic OS9 and the OSX
and it can
but I can't find dick for the PowerPC ISO
I've had the G3 (the fish tank pastel one), but I traded it for a G4 iMac a few years ago. Cause it fits perfectly on my IKEA shelf for a quick game of something. It can't run OS9 natively (sadly) but it has Classic9 at least.
G5* sorry.
the aluminum towers?
No the iMac.
This one. The THICC boi
Late response, but
- Pulling the plug on Stadia would indeed matter for internal use, as that means they nolonger have a server to playtest stream from. If you meant they are streaming the game from an internal server that isn't Stadia then wouldn't they most likely be using Windows on their own devices to more easily replicate bugs (or to avoid Linux based bugs).
- Big reason they have it on Stadia IS the money. Google was throwing around a lot of cash at the start of their ill fated venture. Without the monetary injection Bungie would never have touched the platform. If they had an internal report saying Linux was worth supporting they would've made the move years ago, but when it comes down to it most players who use Linux are also fine (at least willing) to dual boot Windows to play D2, which means it's kinda worthless for the devs to make a native Linux port. This is the power of the Network effect, it requires outside influence (like payment, or free cost) for people to adopt things outside the mainstream compatibility
yes I meant internal server for easier game streaming to test, and I never said the money is not a factor, just that anti cheat is a major reason as to why its not on linux despite the game working on proton for a while
It is THICC compared to modern iMacs. And unlike those you can actually service mine with just... three screws. Total access. But yes - The fishtank is much deeper for sure.
I am reminded when I sold one of those huge aluminium PowerPC Mac Desktops (G5 I think they called it) to some guy, and when he picked it up he told me about how his son was going to use it for gaming 😬 This was done in 2016
Gotta feel sorry for the kid not only buying the Apple Hype, but going for a unit so painfully obsolete that no one remembers it
I just think of those clothing irons with translucent plastic that were popular at the time
Been wanting a G5 converted to ATX for years, but they're always super expensive here.
I did think about converting the case, but figured the effort would be massive
Mansen from the future : I ¤%&¤%& hate dealing with Mac drives on Windows. The PROFESSIONAL, PAID tool I use will literally lock up Windows if it finds the slighest issues. We're talking full on can't Win+L or CTRL+ALT+DEL. But everything else will continue to run.
gross
good ole Blueberry
ban samsung
the ol toilet lid
Never saw a clamshell here.
Used to have the 15" Titanium model. Just before they went Intel. Back when Apple still put GPUs in everything and Blizzard supported the platform.
Remember playing vanilla WoW on it.
only mac I've owned is a 2010 mbp
Benefits of having an apple higher up as an uncle I guess
paid 620 euros for it, so great phone for my mom :p
At one point he needed help with translation of software so he got my dad to help - and sent a whole ass Mac by plane and taxi to get it all done in time
Needless to say we got to keep that Mac, and I discovered my love for Sim City 2000
Macrium reflect superior backup software
Acronis has never failed me. Also it's a copy from my previous work place
Fair enough, free is free
Macrium runs in the background tho...
Aaaand done. Now to find a way to mount HFS and copy shit over without...
... having the system lock up (thanks Macdrive drivers I assume)
... having impossible file and folder names that Windows will access, copy but can't delete.
Testdisk is your friend
They act a bit like airbags for your switches and keycaps. Instead of bottoming out and hitting the bottom of the switch (which causes a bit of noise), it hits the o-ring and dampens the noise.
The potential downside is - it can't bottom out. Which means that on an analog board you lose some sensitivity range.
Installed Windows on SD card for lols

Did you install it as portable windows?
Portable windows is omega convenient
Windows to GO
A part of me wants to uyse this

but i cant justify it
ive already spent like 100+ on top of the deck
Fill up the SD card firat
So yes
is another idea
i was thinking of this for WIndows
with a spare SSD i have
Would be clean with command strips
The best USB enclosure is the sabrent
i wish the deck game with two usb c ports
Sabrant requires an m2 :p
i dont have spare ones laying around xD
Ec-snve
Ye but I mean rather than this
Byo SSD best ssd
the main issue with nano is money
ive already invested a lot of money into the deck after the actual deck
Are you actually gonna use windows alot?
If so I'd get a tiny tiny USB drive so you can leave it in while carrying around
If not? Then just don't get it
i got my PC for any window stuff that i'd want to use honestly.
and thats already fine enough dual-boots lol
good game, somehow the dos version was slightly harder than the windows version
Cause I don't like looking at a fooking wall, dumbo. Common sense innit?
Mac version was basically Windows version but with better music...or at least different depending on your preference. Different sound chip so everyone had to re-mix all music.
Well windows to expensive here my friend, gotta just have holes in a wall, don’t you know windows are fookin xpensive here? Ain’t they?
I use it because it works with everything and does everything I want to do on my computer within the same OS, it might not be the best at some things, but it'll do it
Now lissen ere' mate. I live in a greenhouse. Nothun' but windose!
Well it doesn’t work with anything
unfortunately its the only OS on the market that does that
So nice when I copy something on my phone and can paste it on pc
How’ much did ya pay? I got a hose with only one fookin hole in a wall as wiindow and it was already ferty pounds
Ngl app support is one think making me have to use windows but I got to the point of rather switching OS than using windows for everything
am too lazy for that, especially since the only other real option is linux
Well macOS is a real option for use as a second OS too
yeah but I don't have a mac, and hackintosh is a mixed bag
Just gotta use windows too if you want to run some apps just like with Linux, though that’s not as often the case with Linux since often more is compatible
well I got a mac but its ancient
Well having a mac would solve that
Ngl the M1 pro/max laptops made me like MacBooks again
only thing I'd prefer a mac for would be working with audio and I don't really do that enough these days to warrant that kind of money so windows it is
why would it
Because it's just like you've plugged in any other controller
does playing on controller trigger anti cheat
more probable that the rapid trigger/dual movement would tbh
Then it's not analog... ?
then analog doesnt do anything
how do you get aim assist by having analog control of your movement?
you dont unless you never move your mouse
How would you get aim assist when a game doesn't care for controllers at all?
also that
Don't you all use those fancy rapid triggers to set up aim macros??
besides DRM online games with asshole developers that'll ban you, what would you want on windows that can't run on linux?
All the other absolutely proprietary software
that doesn't make sense. if the game doesn't have aim assist, it doesn't have aim assist even if you have something analog.
such as?
Potatochop
you can get a lot of stuff meant to only run on windows to run on linux.
because they didn't want to for reason of their choice, or laziness. or they don't knwo how to. but that doesn't mean it can't run on linux eitherway
don't ask me, ask the people that made the software not supporting it.
likely it's because it's done using various microsofts codes released officially for windows. but that stuff too can run on linux as well when someone else pokes at it.
.netframework stuff
or directX
it's usally done through WINE which can run window applications
and there's others
called wine because they wanted to eb cheeky with the name and because people would think its running a emulation or not
Wine-Is-Not-an-Emulator
it works by converting the Window system calls into Linux system calls and bunch of other stuff, like replicating window directory and configs and stuff.
I wonder will GIMP change it's name?
lol
No
if ye curious : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_(software)
Wine (formerly a recursive backronym for Wine Is Not an Emulator, now just "Wine") is a free and open-source compatibility layer that aims to allow application software and computer games developed for Microsoft Windows to run on Unix-like operating systems. Wine also provides a software library, named Winelib, against which developers can compi...
People already tried forking it with a "better" name, it didn't go well https://glimpse-editor.org/posts/a-project-on-hiatus/
as for whats used for games, Valve pushed out a real banger of a software : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proton_(software)
Proton is a compatibility layer for Microsoft Windows games to run on Linux-based operating systems. Proton is developed by Valve in cooperation with developers from CodeWeavers. It is a collection of software and libraries combined with a patched version of Wine to improve performance and compatibility with Windows games. Proton is designed for...
Don't
It only costs your time!
Save yourself the trouble
Do you like to tinker with the OS for every single thing you want to do?
If you do go for it
If not then stick with something that works
there's no reason to not try Linux. it's free and it only takes some time to try out. Vexx is a hater for... some troll reason, i don't remember. there's no cost.
and they are also incorrect on what they say
technically called HLE
you can get a linux ISO and install it without needing ot fiddle every single aspect of it.
high level emulation
this is true
I've been Linux Mint, Kali, Ubuntu and others for years now and it's actually terrible
and you never cited an actual reason other than random spouting of gibberish, vexx. "oh it;'s too troublesome" even when some fo them are literally already set up for you no different than windows.
Von Bon, I know that you like picking at everyone's arguments all the time, but seriously, read for once
Just don't listen to Vexx. Do some research, learn up about it.
yeh no xd
This is painful.
dw first time hurts the most but i got lube
I have 500 down that i cant use because the SD card is limited to 20-25mb
I sure love having apt-install and apt-update not working, then I have to look on the internet for specific issues for a specific distro
got my Plasma desktop looking real nice <3
Arch si very good but don't use arch directly. Use a branch/side of Arch. Like
https://endeavouros.com/
or
https://manjaro.org
both of these are Arch but without complicated setups. i prefer the first one over Manjaro.
It's Win 11 that doesn't work
Lahnah changes linux distro once a day. Maybe even twice.
Please dont recommend manjaro ... it will break eventually due to their holdback of packages
not on my computer xd
Arch by itself, yes, is pain. but not the branches.
here, check this out https://distrowatch.com/
thanks discord
on the right you can see the rankings of the popular distributions of linuxes
explore and see what seems most interesting to you
do some research
its free and and aint gonna hurt you
🤔 Endeavour is really popular
I heard that RedStarOS is the best one
just be ready that getting steam to run might still be enough to brick your system so you have to reinstall it
wait nvm, this counts clicks onto a webpage, not actual usage
or it might work if you're lucky
pepelaugh
thats why i call Vexx a troll : RedStarOS is the NorthKorean OS. legit don't use that one.
See that was a joke
Vexx? Troll?
linux being a piece of work to actually use is not
There is nothing wrong with trying out Linux
But please for the love of all that's holy, don't use it as main workspace
Constant problems with no easy solutions
unless you are some sort of dev or are ready to put effort in to make it work
Stuff just works on Fedora for me
Except, I cant install Ice SSB to make youtube app
Daddy Kim probably blessed Red Star OS, so it's flawless
yeah but the thing is it might not work or you might just brick your os when try to install steam
unfortunately my system isn't old enough to meet redstar OS requirements
Why are there so many!!
LOL
It's not fragmented!
have LTT uploaded the video of the laptop he bricked btw? didnt see it last time I looked
That joke's run its course already
I'll have to settle for templeOS instead
TempleOS: Promising to run over those glow in the dark CIA <people> since 2000
I wonder if NSA actually backdoored Temple or not
of course they did, its the number one OS in the south
That's what they want you to think
How is there no networking if, afaik, it literally has a browser?
Idk what I started...
same here...
I'm regretting it as much as you do
good
:')
nah, 9999up to steal all your data
and 0 down to make sure you get no data against them
actually redstar OS is obsolete, NK switched to Hannah Montana OS in 2020
That's not true, btw
I think Vatican City also switched over to Ubuntu Satanic Edition
See now that, is an amazing distro
Yep xd
comes with metal music and bathory wallpaper
whats not to love
🤔 x to doubt?
nah, imma go downstairs and get icecream instead
I do love the sickening green wallpaper
Redstar xd
if it was your fav, youd have known this was it!
duh

yo, anyone have pcb design experience?
HM os hasn't been updated since like 2013 or some shit iirc kek

this should work using a usb c to usb c cable right
in theory yes
what if i did this, usb a to usb c
lol
that could work as usb-c can be both host and slave.
also usb-a to a on these chinese devices is pretty cursed
I do understand it pragmatically, usb-c is more expensive usb-b 3.0 cables connectors are too large and micro-usb 3.0 are not that great either.
id just get this
but i dont want to be limited to usb c
oh
USB c to a adapters exist
yes but adapters
Just makes your cable a bit longer
Big woop
Also be careful with these lesser known chinese things. It wouldn't surprise me if it's actually usb 2.1
"Nothing Phone (1): Launches w/ 3 years OS updates at £399 - 9to5Google" https://9to5google.com/2022/07/12/nothing-phone-1/
Oo
Cheaper than pixel 6a
How is 3 years OS updates a selling point
cause its sadly a thing where people toss their phones for new ones yearly
Mostly due to bill pay upgrades from carrier
its honestly a disgusting amount of waste
Hmm the cameras nor storage options don’t seem to amazing
Well yeah but what I mean is that it’s sad that at least 3 years just isn’t a norm
blame obama'
Because why update existing devices when you can just shit out a new one every month
because can legally abuse customers
cause, like.
you even have
CARS
using microtrasactions
BMW has a service to charge you 18 a month to heat your front seats
also cruise control for 35 euros a month
Wonder if smart people can crack that for unlimited free seat heating
why wouldn't they?
if we're lucky for humanity : competition will just keep these as freebies and people will be smart enough to not fucking whale them like the assholes that fed Diablo Immortal into instant success.
It seems the SD card cant handle downloading while playing
The only drives that won't slow down when running bidi are ram drives lel
since computex was early this year, is there any tech event im not thinking of that might be used to release/show tech? aside from gamescom
🤔 his i3-bar is looking sus
lol
(im assuming its i3-bar, looks like it for sure)
this man types so fast

Yes it can play music
I guess I dont need it
I got a Google one and it generally sits in a drawer unplugged
My parents got some because they can play radio
Which I think is highly ironic
Mine is currently a light switch

I now have two hard drives heading my way. I need a third one, but I need an additional one. The only one I can currently get at a reasonable price is a X300 Pro (Toshiba). As such, I need to ask: anyone have any experience with Toshiba in general? I don't recall ever seeing one in any computers I've salvaged.
Toshiba drives at the low end were the worst of the worst
But their best drives were reasonably useable
Nowdays they don't exist any more and I don't think anyone willingly buys them
wait hold on, you're telling me they don't exist anymore, yet they produce 20TB drives? Who's making them then?
Scratch that, 18TB I mean. But still, who's making them then? As far as I can tell it's not a situation like WD and HGST...
Toshiba drives that are helium based are the only thing remaining
All the other drives are rebrands
also in what universe is an x300 cheaper than an exos
Well that's annoying. The other options are all NAS drives.
exos?
Not sure why it's cheaper, but it just is. Exos don't fit the budget nor the capacity required (too low if budget is lower)
I mean hell explain to me why brand new 6TB WD Blacks were $50.
I don't understand the logic there, but it's legit, so fuck knows.
Alternative options are (non pro) ironwolves or a wd red plus. Other than that, nothing which would fit into budget.
Eh, I'll decide tomorrow. Eitherway the guy who is selling them has plenty of them in stock as far as I know, so one day will likely do fuck all.
And before you ask, no, said guy isn't available online, and isn't willing to go online, so sorry
pretty sure wd blacks dont sync the rpm so kinda risky to run in nas or server settings
Ngl I see 4K 240 as kinda endgame.
I myself can see pixels with 1440p since I tend to sit close to monitor but 4K solves that, so no need to have anything higher. But what would be really nice would be DP 2.0 20 for this, so no compression is needed
i really hpe u change ur monitor distance at some point
unless bexin got a 48inch screen With 1440p
but id assume its normal sized
so pixel density is high enough that at the optimal distance you shouldnt see pixels as pixels
27”, but I sit less than 70cm away from the monitor
I think with 1440p image should stop being sharp at around 75cm with 27”
I mean 1440p isn’t bad, way better than 1080p but I can still see the image not being sharp for me

its screensize and thus how much area it takes up in your field of view
usually 80 to 100cm
ya i was right
Don't know about you but last I checked I can definitely tell pixels a lot easier if I'm up close. And having a higher density helps there. So can't agree with that.
so u also sit a good 10-20cm too close
or what u wanna tell me
this is like me saying ah 4k sucks on my 60inch... im sitting 40cm away and can still see pixels
I uh think you're talking about the same thing in different ways
As someone with a 1440PUW and curves. I disagree entirely 😄
MORE MONITOR IN EYE, MOAR BETTAH
(dakka dakka)
you dont see sharp in most of your fov
I don't need to.
its pointless to fill that space fully
I can still see it.
Well yeah DPI is what matters but you get that by taking res and dimensuins
yes but its still not the point to fill your entire fov
I can't hear you over my immersjun
the only time u wanna fill the fov as good as possible is vr and deep dive gaming which is also more or less vr
nah, even on regular games a widescreen is much more immersive than regular 16:9

still doesnt fill your entire fov tho
And since I play almost exclusively first person games when I can help it, it helps with immersion and awareness. Just because I can't focus on my edge vision, doesn't mean I can't fucking notice something swinging past me 😄
well if I could have a screen that fills my fov I'd take that
so just play with a vr headset at all times
I mean a VR headset would be awesome - But I really don't need more sweat on my face 😄
plus the weight and cable/batteries or the lack of resolution for some years to come
ok strap a vr headset to.your face and get your sweat glands removes on your face before
Still holding on to the hope that we get AR glasses that weigh almost nothing at some point 😄
i have more hope for bci devices to advance and project images directly into your brain so to say
would get rid of screens entirely
VR glasses
also ar glasses wouldnt fully immerse you in a game
maybe an ar game but not the standard video game
Well they could with self tinting glass
So you could get black background
With self tinting glass could just easily turn AR glasses into VR and back
I just want to be able to flip between game and looking at whatever my eyes would normally see instantly without taking goggles off 😄
Well yes but idk if I would really want sth like that ngl
so vr glasses that can turn transparent
So self tinting glass
Very possible
not really ar if you tint away the R of the ar
i do
if we understand how projecting imgaes into thoughts works
we could have way more immersive games
fuck using controllers
and glasses
use ur mind
Time to hack what gets projected in your mind
like you can hack anything else?

Just because companies are considered persons on a legal basis, doesn't mean they have genders, Tony.

I mean it CAN be - But you'll also find people who disagree with folks using "dude" in the same way.

I never said it had to be - I'm pointing out that one person's bro is not another person's bro 😛
bro u sure bro. bro im not sure if i agree with you bro. bro over there says bro is that so i trust bro in this
u know that their is the possessive of them/they?
u see thats not how it works
but sure
anyway generally bro isnt gender neutral
im not ure bro
im not ure brother
im not anything related to you nor would i wanna be related to you in any form
i think youve read to much from the bible
darwinism would disagree with us all being related
well for one @reef patrol is a duck
and i assume ure a brick wall judging by the insightfull commentary you gave
the american school system must have really failed if it got this far
Wrong
Every human being related isn’t just a bible thing, many scientists seem to think so too.
And well it’s very likely that at least almost every human would be somehow related
very unlikely that only 1 male and 1 female ape evolved and we decended from those 2
It’s not about that, there were probably more
and its very unlikely we are all related beyond genetic similarities due to being human
because there are people like him talking on the phone like that
However over so many years even if you had 100 of them that humans evolved from, it’s statistically very likely that at some point these have mixed over the time
Well statistics disagree
Very isolated humans may have a very small chance but otherwise
at some point youre not related anymore because ure genetically so different that you just dont share any similarities considered related
Everyone does look different. No ones a clone of each other unless born twins and even then their brain is different.
As to why the organs and stuff is the same : evolution. And those bits are changing over time.
Well that’s not the point of this really. You still are in definition of the word related.
And well your genes are similar to ones you are more closely related to
One of many sources that well say that humans prosbbly are all related
https://ed.ted.com/best_of_web/qRqRiz5q
Evolution is a species-wide thing, not individual
Yeah
We share common ancestry with animals too
Well whats the issue then?
There's shitloads of text. Just tell me directly
Im trying to prepare to go to work
Damn bro I can now claim Mr. moustache man from Austria that ruined Germany is my cousin
Well he very very likely is
Anyone is likely your cousin or otherwise related, though if they lived too long ago or such may not be a cousin
I need to visit my grandfather from my 10th line paternal side, mr. Nelson Mandela
He must be missing me
dont you remember he died in the 80s
I am back.
It looks like there isn't an issue then?
Scrolling up, i don't think they were implying any of that. @fair gull
In fact i dont see anyone actually disagreeing avoit evolution
We were earlier.
Prior it was all, like, defining the word bro and slang
That was weird
ya and then i said i dont wanna be related in any way to them and they started saying were all related
Well, its a relative term (bazinga)
at some point its not really being related
ure genetically so distant that theres no real relation
Aye
Theres a large distance generation wise, hopefully
But we are all related, distant or not.
I cant recall how much distance is required
at some point id not call it related anymore
Again its a relative term. It depend on the range of scope. On the family side : yes its far from related.
On the genetics side : related
The human genepool is very small compared to most species
Magic Leap 2 will be available for purchase by enterprise customers and the general public on September 30. Visit https://t.co/MKxUy9TOiv for more details about this exciting announcement. #MagicLeap2 #TechNews

dont even care about it, but it seems to be using Van Gogh which is just another point towards Deckard using that too
there was a point many thousands of years ago we faced a near extinction, and either out-competed or entangled with similar cousins that could be. or do you mean something else by small genepool?
Ngl I would think that small device like this would really benefit from arm
no it doesnt
yeah. actually maybe gene_pool is the wrong word. im not sure what it is. but compared to most species we have a limited diversity of genes
because arm or x86 does not matter
a custom solution is a custom solution, made with either one
neither is inherently worse or better for one or another general purpose
this the same guys that did the LEAP stuff that was those sensors?
if by that you mean the magic leap 1 yes
yeee, good fun stuff that was.
also that is massively incorrect to say it doesn't matter between arm and x86
there's even possible massive incompatibilities due to AMR being a RISC based architecture.
it would be because that it's a different ISA yes, CISC/RICS is more of a side effect, and one can debate if arm even counts as risc still
https://www.extremetech.com/computing/323245-risc-vs-cisc-why-its-the-wrong-lens-to-compare-modern-x86-arm-cpus one read for that
i'll def read that
but his point was a small device would benefit from arm so it's about power efficency etc. not about needing translation layers
and if you make the chip in x86, arm risc-v or whatever is not the relevant part for that
apple didnt use arm because its better its because they literally can't use x86 and riscv is/wasn't mature enough
RIP Cyrix o7 a brave stand but no market in the servers
and as im no chip architecht, takes this ones word that it doesnt matter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFVDZeg4RVY
Was Jim Keller really 'the father of Zen'? In this wide-reaching interview, Jim talks to Ian about his time at AMD, Intel, and others, along with a variety of management technique advice, how to approach design, the future of Moore's Law, which instruction set matters (x86 vs Arm), but also the intersection between maturity and experience.

No worries, is interesting stuff
MX
MX \o/
this puppy will run yer doom
also i believe strong enough for Diablo
sadly may have issues with quake due to the ties they had with intel for optimizing the game towards intel CPUs
fan required
Simpler times.
lmao
you'd thank your lucky spirits if it didn't require a fan back then since it was pretty much always some wheezing 40mm midget thing making a ton of noise
So AMD stock coolers
Harddrives and diskette drives made more noise than the fans.

This is our first Intel Arc GPU benchmark & review (other than the DG1) for a true gaming desktop video card from Intel. The Arc A380 competes with the AMD RX 6400 closest, maybe the GT 1630 (we'll see), and aims to be a $130-$150 card. The A380 launched only in China at first, b...
ohboi
It's having a real fierce battle with the rx6400, and really does need resizable bar to operate
tbh everything in computers that made a noise made a lot of it
early cd-rom drives goddamn
was like having a large hadron collider in your room while that thing was reading a disc
lmao especially the disc drives
they had ZERO speed control and all were racing to be the fasterestest
but loved the sounds fo the old drives, i honestly did
the clacking and clicking
nowadays though if a drive did that it was did as all hell lol but the soft mechanical ways of doing it was bliss
data crunching
Imagine dumping billions into Chip design and this happens
That's not intel though but the chinese board partner making that card.
still stupid though.
Regardless in terms of gaming, you have a chip that is 1.5x the die size of a 6400/6500xt and still underperforms the former while consuming more power.
Of course they may have allocated more to their media decoding portion but still it shows
hmm I wonder what they will price this at in the west if it s above the 6400 it s not a viable purchase
Even at the same ore slightly below it will it offer poor value for gaming.
It really would need to undercut it quite a bit
most likely at 0$ with no volume for the west
hopefully this card is ass and not competitive
what why would you hope for less competetive optiosn
well this isnt much of an option
I hope they bring something decent at some point but I d hate for intel to ruin their brand credibility in the space with a product like this
what
reading comprehension isn't your strong suit
Mistype I suppose
In the current market there is definitely a pricepoint it will sell, looking at the dutch prices it could be competitive at € 150 ish
the real text should be "hopefully, this card is ass and not competitive"
or you could even do a full stop
Regardless of punctuation
"Ass and not competitive" is bad
not many buying at that price point will have rebar I am gussing
actually seeing 6400's coming down even that would be a bit high.
yes I am saying: this card sucks and would not do much to the market
Does it?
look at the review and make up your own mind
I would not buy this over any of the other options around 150€
It is still viable for a completely new budget build at that price or a htpc where it's main use is its media engine
there are cheaper display adapters
Its the best media engine available
To the point where it might make sense to add to a system with a serious gaming gpu
Just for quicksync
Now for an Nvidia system? Not so much
lmao, thats the best 😂
Also my € 150 was in the assumption that the cheapest 6400 was still 180, now that I looked closer and saw one at € 160 that changes things for gaming
chinese pricing is kind of weird as far as I know, not always something you can compare 1 to 1
hmmm.... there should be options like, 100-150 dollar cards. like. honestly not everyone is well off but, like. sometimes people also want a budget set up or not even care about modern AAA games that sap so much hardware.
modern low-ends are justified.
And if Intel releases it above 120 in the us I would be shocked
It converts to about 150 usd
they would be making a loss at that pricepoint most likely I am gussing
Not a chance
considering how much they spent on rnd
Boxed it probably costs them less than $80
Card itself probably $70
Irrelevant that's sunk cost fallacy
They don't need to make back rnd on this one, I am pretty sure they knew their first gen was going to cost them.
As long as they make a profit per unit sold they would be happy.
Maximize revenue by maximizing profit
Maximize profit by selling exactly at market value
where are u getting these numbers
Dice
They need mind / market share without bleeding too much money in the process. I don't think anyone at intel would seriously expect to really turn a profit on the first generation cards.
yeah something that performs this badly without rebar will leave many with a sour taste in their mouths
if they really thought they wouldn't be making a profit from this campaign : they wouldn't go with it.
Even if this was true, if you think this card costs more than $100 to make you are better off actually using dice to guess the price
the only one with those thoughts are the underlings who do the heavy work. but the people running the show believe it'll be a profit and thats what matters.
Larabee is proof of this
resizable bar is no big deal imo, moving forward cpu's generally support it. It only comes in to play parnering it with older systems.
In the short term they need to be cash flow positive for hardware and thats it
The rnd will pay for itself in the future
The thing is if their next generation of gpu's will not bring in profits or at least put them closer to it that will be more important.
Of course they expect to be making money of their gpu's, just not immidiately with their first entry in the market.
aye, regardless fi it profitable : intel can bunk any negatives from it and the RND from the project will advance future ones.
Tbh Intel doesn't need to make money from client GPUs
They just need enough client market share to insert themselves into server
they already bully the PC market.
anymore foothold and it'll be worse than what disney does to media.
cpu and gpu are very different markets
it ll take a while until they become a legitimate competitor
same market manipulation strats.
they can certainly try
like what they did with AMD in the past, all they have to do is pay manufacturers like Dell and HP to feature their "higher end" machines to use the Intel hardware and the lower end machiens the competitiors
Most display adapters in the world are already intel
you mean that latest lawsuit that intel won and is now suing the EU for?
no i mean older lawsuits
like, 15-20 years ago
and theres some even older they lost.
Intel is known for breaking anti-competition laws.
does windows to go have updates enabled
I read somewhere since its not officially support it has no updates
well the one they won was where they got accused of what you said, paying dell gp and lenovo to ignore amd
oh!! lenovo too? interesting.
honestly I think it's kinda bs that they are getting away with that
Monopolies for some reason always get away with that
having a duopoly where the one with the upper hand can just do that is kinda ass
most interesting.
that they do 😛
if they didnt violate the law then even if morally they should pay, its correct for them not to pay
this is true. if the law wasn't broken, it wasn't broken.
it is fault fo the law not being good enough to stop abuse.
Was Intel ever sued for monopolism or is that what the antitrust was about?
It's pretty blatantly obvious that Intel engaged in market manipulation
amds products were also dogshit so it's not impossible they skirted the line as far as they could without legal penalty
i mean, it helps to have basically literally invented the damn market, the whole architecture x86 all the way back with the 8086 >.>
AMD wasn't always dog shit
We are talking mainly Bulldozer here
Ever since FX-6000 series was released, I think that's when Bulldozer became a thing, they sucked dick
That's like 2012 I think to 2017
phenom was good even better than fx for a while
Phenom was their main selling product prolly
I don't know why they decided that FX was a good launch
But tbf I own an FX-8350 and I like it
well they didn't have anything else
even when intel tried to copy fx with rocket lake they only had one shit generation
need i remind you the socket CPUs?
also cpus have a very long time from first conception until they come to market so even if they wanted to they couldn't back out
cartridges, is what i meant
which it's why it sometimes hard to blame certain people for some failures and successes
point to me where the CPU goes >XD I wanna see the younger generation guess
that looks a lot like the board our ibm aptiva had in the late 90s
I'll give y'all newer folks a hint
Not the isa slots
rofl
they wont know what that is
hell they probably might not even know the AGP slot
agp lmfao
or if those are PCI or PCI-E
aka dying very fast
🤣
to AGP credit
at the time the best expansion slot was PCI and it sucked balls for the newer video cards that were needing more power, and no one wanted to be like 3DFX to plug in a pwoer adapter to the back of the case.
SO AGP served well ( mostly) until PCI-E came out
yeah had a few AGP cards
worse aprt AGP is figuring out WHICH AGP
you have, like
4V, 4v times 2, 8v, backwards comaptible mess.
needed to consult a damn chart.
also fuck i want an AGP board with ISA
would make a damn good Win 98SE/DOS machine motherboard
I specifically gave myself the pcie cutoff for my GPU collection for that very reason
nice
i got a retro case with a TURBO button
i want younger peeps to guess what that does 😂
though i wish I could get my DOS machine working again
i don't know if the motherboard is at fault, I just can't get it to boot the disk but I can make it POST and access it's bios settings.
i got my 98SE working fine enough
6800 gt 7950gx2 x1800, 8800gtx, 9800gx2
Gotta catch em all
ah but do you have the 5000 series? I believe thats the cut off date in regards to driver support for pre-XP
Again pcie cutoff
you still need the drivers though
also is your 9800 also the one with black and gold color for the case?
i'll have to open up my boxes and check which one i have.
ooooohh you got the blower fan one, nice.
Yap
i got some... i can;t remember what edition it was.
but I know I got some 9800 for a potention XP build.
Most beautiful card in my collection
aluminum?
Maybe the KNF card is prettier?
It's painted metal
Possibly alu
also wait thats an express card. or did they release both?
9800gx2 was only pcie
Eh
It was under a hundo on ebay
right on
man now I'm def gonna un-dust my 98 machine and boot it up again
though i gotta donate my unused jumbo crt tv. its in the waaaaaaaay
I'm officially done with crt
I plan to never have a crt again
If it can't be emulated then I'm not gonna use it
I wish I still had some of my old machines left
I just want my one CRT TV and one CRT Monitor.
but i have two >.< and no where to put it.
if I was serious about retro gaming I'd probably track down a CRT but they're not going to be around that much longer
Not as clean as just the SD card lel
Are SD card swaps really that hard?
Running windows on an SD card is painful
idk maybe u can repair them my dad used to do that
But also I don't wanna buy another 1tb or 512gb rn 😂
but components might be hard to find
Deck problem?
well yes and no
Works fine for me
It was a random Samsung V30 card
and a lot of them are approaching their end of life
Tho I was using it in a USB adapter
Main thing is I cant be fucked buying a second sd card tbh
shame there arn't any new crts being made it s a cool technology but sadly surpassed by modern display tech
256gb 512gb 1tb
And a ton of 64gbs
Big enough
It V30?
I mainly installed it out of curiosity
Enough room? It can just store one game
That I play
it still has a few advantages over lcd/flatscreen but they're very much overshadowed by the cons
Get vvvvvv and n++ then?
Negatory
There are now 0 advantages
Besides being potentially free
biggest advantage imo was resolution not dependent on the actual display panels resolution, you could choose whichever worked best for the application with little to no compromise in image quality
Except the base image quality was so low that modern lcds win off native res
and the softness of the image really helped making old blocky games look better, they look pretty terrible on modern displays bc they're just too sharp
That's fixable
it s kinda sad tho games made with crts in mind dont look the same on modern displays
but yeah that fuzziness wasn't so great on the desktop
also hard to find any CRTs above 19"
for computers
There are solutions for that
Even when running original hardware
I just find crts neat and I'd use one with my gamecube if the darn things wern't so damn big lol
Crts would be great if they were lighter, brighter, lower power, mountable, less blurry etc
the only thing that puts me off them is the size and weight tbh don't care about the rest at all
I haven't been fully convinced by attempts to add anti-aliasing/smoothening on older games to "crt-fy" them, but then again its been a long time since I last tried running old games on modern systems
Fair enough
You do need a relatively high res lcd for that to look good
a lot of games that do sprite stuff as well as emualtors typically come with filters to soften the sharpness and such
also good BFI and other stuff to make it look good imo
Also this
unless there's remasters or community updates of an older title I rarely bother trying to play vintage games anymore, its a disappointment more often than not to me having gotten used to modern game mechanics and UI
heh, another reason we need even higher hz screens, so we can do things that reduce the effective frequency lol
its nice seeing some old titles get cared for though, like openttd or openrct2
I think future video cable standards should come with pwm control of the backlight by the gpu
hmm but that makes me think, is BFI gonna be an issue on higher refresh oled screens since the few places they show overshoots and such is from off to another color
disagree
-written on my AW3423DW
they tend to not like static pictures much
Meh
It's fine
Durability is fixable
It's a relatively new tech in the grand scheme of things
burn-ins are sadly very much permanent
old oled, yes, definitely an issue
sure there's measures you can take to avoid it
Improving the tech
on some games, especially old, you DONT want to run at higher framerates.
thats why the turbo button existed
Oleds aren't ready for monitors*
Unassisted
Yet
Dllcd is proof that contrast is king
Qdoled is a step in the right direction
yeah its way better today than it used to be, but it can still happen if you don't take any measures at all to avoid long-term static images
Again that's a fixable problem
Oleds aren't good for monitors YET
Wtf is that
calculator
when its pretty much impossible to cause it by "normal" use and available with 144hz+ refresh rates I'd def want one
Those are damn expensive geez
O.o
well mine is 175hz@wqhd
And in theory it shouldn't color shift when it burns in
Only get slightly dimmer after the 10k hours
1100
the 5th digit was always adding an extra 1
which came from the 4th digit overflow
and how's the price vs equivalent size/res/hz IPS or VA?
please enlighten me to this calculator device thing
taking off the bottom can an some compressed air fixed it
Oh and you repaired it?
Sweet
it has many switches and widgets and i want to know more
working like a charm now
already tried all calculations
what is iiiiiiiiiit
It's a mechanical calculator
Add subtract mult
obviously not cheaper, but it's hard to find comparable specs in the first place and a lot lower than was originally expected, take a look what the AW3423DW costs in your region
Ebay
ebay and around 1000-1500eur
fuck
curta
It's literally written on the front
give me one that wont break the bank
Lmao you need so many parts
And they all have to be insanely toleranced
like these calculators are precision machines but also somewhat built like a brick
yeah that's a bit spicy for me kek
i cry because I'll never have one
i will get a second one maybe next year
Same
or the year after
One of each type?
prob a 1
