if youre going to call that a server than my oven is a datacenter lol
deciated power, cooling and serves data
lol
If you are doing authentication, bgp, dns forwarding, and DHCP, you are a server 4 different ways
a core router isnt doing any of that other than some sort of secure tunnel to get and sync routes
A core router is absolutely running bgp
Probably also ospf
I visited a data centre that used gigantic flywheels for an UPS. Cool place
Yes and those Asics have imbedded
Wait for it
Arm cores
those are dope, they make line frequency dead nuts solid too
they are the best for short under/over voltages
yes but they arent used for bgp, its done in the asic
they load the prefixes in memory from the managment side
but the only thing that touchs packets is the asics
I did have a UPS once when I was in uni, battery powered thing. However then it shorted and blew my PCs power supply
If I get another one I think I might pay for a quality one that guarantees hardware replacement if my PC gets exploded
You mean this asic?
APC is the standard, ive had to use their warranty a few times, never had an issue
I'm looking into upses and I want an Eaton lifepo4 model
yeah notice how 80% of that block isnt the arm core....
its almost like there is dedicated hardware for most functions
Sure
But no matter if you are calling it dedicated hardware or ffus
It's serving and processing data
Like you can't not use bgp
And bgp requires storing all the latencies to all your neighbors
And often all your neighbors neighbors
and you act like that cant be done via asic
No I don't, you act like an asic serving data isn't a server...
you need a forklift for those goalposts?
Speak for yourself
I've been consistent
Like I never said your oven wasn't a server lol
i never said it was
But a datacenter?
Dunno usually the electronics in a datacenter aren't intentionally baked lol
And as for my definitions, airflow internal to one device is not managed
Managed is when a device doesn't have full control over it's airflow
For example if you got a reversed airflow version of a server, if the number of servers that overheat thanks to that is greater than just itself, it's managed (this is an example, not a definition)
Is anyone here a network expert
That reminded me, by chance have you had any experience with KEMP LoadBalancer (Free Version). If Yes, can you integrate KEMP to a OPNSENSE server in a VM
I just use cloudflare free personally
And for my work, we don't have a proper loadbalancer
Much appreciate it for your feedback
i’ve heard web people use nginx as load balancer 🤔
From what I read you should probably just switch to xcp-ng as your hypervisor
That's just for web
Not a general loadbalancer for vms
why so, I'm curios since I just started fiddling with homelab and such
If it's for homeland use proxmox because it's easier
But xcp-ng is basically the higher security more featured proxmox
Find some hardware that costs less than 100k that guarantees 5 9s of uptime
With 20k and 2 sites you can get years of uptime as long as you can seamlessly failover vms
would this be accurate
LMAO
Think hyper v vs virtualbox
Hyper-v is stronger and more features but a pain to get started
Virtualbox is ez
Makes sense
If I buy an air blower
A small one
To de-dust my computer
How would I clean the CPU cooler with it? Without blowing the dust further into the cooler?
Top down?
im sure there will be a dozen youtube videos showing it
opposite direction fans blow
easier to clean GPUs with them outside the PC
and it is easy to remove em
nah
no
but you will probably want to have a vacuum cleaner handy after you blow the dust onto your mobo
at least it'll be loose and in clumps that should clean up easy
Depending on how much time it has been there is a good chance a duster/vacuum will not be enough
it will be since its only as much that we dont even know it's the cause of issues
Fair enough
Idk the issue either
It was fully powered off and unplugged for 12 days while I was away
Then I booted it back up
Did Linux updates that were pending
Updates failed
Reinstalled Linux
Went over to windows to play some games
It shut down after a while in cyberpunk
But I thought that might be because I had modded cyberpunk
So I played Forza for a while and that didn't cause it to shut down
Then I booted to Linux
Played distance for about 40 minutes then it shut down
So the problem isn't the OS it seems
And I don't think distance is as heavy of a game as Forza considering I get above 150fps always on distance
If it is dust temps would rise up significantly
And you would get slowdowns before it crashes
also thats not how that works, has nothing to do with it
@wheat plume just put your cooler in the sink
just turning off usually means cpu overheating super drastically or psu failure
it doesnt even seem to crash, it sounds the same as if I power it off from the OS menu
and firefox or Chrome werent like "the browser closed unexpectedly" like they would if they crashed
for vm's I always just use kvm, with virtual machine manager it works like charm.

On a fullsize board, is the key above tab the ` symbol?
yes ``~`
IM FUCKING STUPID
HOLY SHIT
WHY AM I SO DUMB?????
Spent like 15 minutes installing the HyperX software to assign Q and W's fn layer to type ~ and ` respectively
Saved that to the keyboard profile
All good
Then I look at the damn preview in the software and see that those symbols are already bound to the ESC Key
But on my keyboard they dont show it on the esc keycap that they are there
CAUSE I REPLACED THE DAMN PREINSTALLED KEYCAP WITH THE LOGO KEYCAP INSTEAD 🤦♀️

They just release the same mouse three times
when does windows update disk useage
man I really wonder how this could go wrong
only writing a few dozen files a second 24/7
aaand we got a new one
so uhhh
according to windirstat the drive only got 12. something GB written but windows reports something closer to 70GB
Jup, windows10 is reserving a few GBs for itself, usually 66-70GB. Dependant on language, update history and Windows type 🙂
Assuming u got win10
no
I deleted like 67GB worth of tiny af files
around 400 million of them
is not even the main drive
I would just restart the server if that was an option rn
prob takes some times for it to update
windirstat would show those anyway
is it a critical volume?
if not just set it to offline and then online in diskmgmt
Yep
just mark it as offline
Oh we talkin servers. I thought were talking desktops.
its the same there tho?
yes but it does the same stupid shit
cause the kernel is the exact same
heck most stuff is the same
Nah files re different. Drivers and kernels are the same.
Different “packages” for different functionalities
Duplicate cleaner can help aswell 🙂
havent worked with way too many servers its barely different
heck N versions of windows are more different than server is
More important question is: Why is windows running on your servers?
Be smart, use Linux
Be a man, use vim 😉
cause its not always an option depending on who the server belongs to?
Oh they are not yours.. Minor detail we were missing out until now
idk in yamas case but i got way too many customers that just want 1 windows server for some software of theirs
and DC
smaller companies also wont shell out money for a machine that could virtualize everything
many times barely running winserver on baremetal
many times even reusing old licenses cause they gotta cut all those euros
for whatever reason
Another moment for the meme in which the whole civilization relies on a piece of code that barely holds itself together since 20 years.
I do
We don't make the software that runs on it
And no
get all those office tools to run on it
There is no linux alternative for machine software
Were still talking servers, not desktops are we
Great for vms tell me what u want
It literally is a vm
?
?
Tf are you on about
???
Tell them smth and theire triggered
When did i ever say linux is straight up superior
yes
I use windows myself on all my desktops
For a stable server enviroment i would MUCH prefer a linux
Since it is more stable
😮 next thing u gonna tell me is linux can virtualize windows
No way
windirstat still shows those
so?
@wheat plume i had this for an underspecced psu. it would also not turn on for a bit
like if its windows shutting down u can see it telling you its shutting down
if it just goes black and leds off its the psu overloading
and doing what its supposed to
shut off and dont catch fire
a surprisingly hard task these days i heard
btw i had to order an fm2 proc today
60buckos for basically no processing power these days
hhhmmmm
worse display? its not the same?
no?
its .3 inches smaller on the pro and having 64px less in width but a higher ppi
aka better
also pro has no notch afaik
camera is like the one thing the air does better afaik
1080p
vs the 720p pro cam
but ngl i dont think anyone gives 2 shits
whoever made that reddit checklist cared I guess
or most likely video checklist from something
Plasma 5.25 brings new features and concepts to the desktop environment. Check out how you can now handle your desktop through gestures on your touchpad or touchscreen, the advanced and easy to use customization features, an improved and very useful Overview, and much, much more.
Find out more about this release at https://kde.org/announcements...
Over priced tech that is made to be unrepairable
Ill update my kde
I wanna swap over to AMD GPU so I can run Plasma again on my desktop
yes but ill have to be honest and say the m1 macbooks ran damn well already
havent held a normal x86 notebook with the same power and batterylife
the 6000 amds come close i believe
doesnt come close in supply still lmao
hah no lol :sad_face
this is the life
welp
would need the machine to go empty
and got told "it is not my problem it is your problem"
and then you managed expectations right?
you know you got a good deal when you get a complete machine that beats i7-7700k in computing power while only costing 1/3 more than what 7700k goes for
Not a terrible deal
Probably got it half off that what it should be priced at
But it does seem not new and also, pretty old and limited in what it can do
it depends on geolocation
I could probably fit together a 5600G system for 300$
And that'd be a wee bit better than what you got there
But hey it seems alright, good haul
in U.S. from what I have seen is that a group of "InVeStOrS" would buy these office machines and servers cents on the dollar thinking they are EntrEprRnEurS
lol
there is a lot of money to be made with that kinda system
7700k way too overkill for that tho
6800XT STILL overpriced
3070 stagnating
I'm guessing my local retailers bought these cards for too much and are not willing to sell them for any lower
what is "overpriced" to you?
they are goin for 500€ by now
3070 is at 600 roughly
I'm telling you my local stuff is far too overpriced
~780 for those
I'd buy that in a heartbeat
dat price gap
at my local best buy they have discounts
most models are 1k € as well
what country?
Tf is the point of getting the 6800XT then
Little country called Lithuania
Like at this point I'm getting a 6900/6950
why not wait for the anticipated RX7000s series?
ye
Don't really want to wait until October
Or november for that matter
the jump is huge from what I have heard
Yes it is
You know what's also huge? TDP
Idk I'm still waiting for now, but I'm rather sad about these prices
I'm married to my GTX 1080ti Strix and got engaged when she was released
Kinda kinky
I wish I bought a 2080Ti when retards sold it for 500$ to get 3000 series
lol
that card literally would refuse to die
well used 3000 series is goin cheaper now
why should it
That's true
it ages like fruit flies
lol
Strange to me as well because it is another Tracer
the tracer was the second one already
the swiftpoint z was the first one with that shape etc
that is from 2017
gl to vidia and amd when cryptocunts are going under as we speak. see how many ppl will buy it
probably about as many as always aka sold out on launch like it pretty much always has been for years
you can only hide behind a paperlaunch for so long
what paperlaunch?
cant see how vidia and amd think they will keep on selling the same numbers when mining is dying as we speak. there will be price pressure (hopefully^tm)
let alone the million of mining cards in the secondary market
second hand market doesnt influence prices of cards that are much faster than any thing old can do?
oh I'll take one over a used gaming card from dusthell every time
yeah and if it ever was right it's been wrong for years at least
GPU manufacturer, Palit Microsystems, is advising against
^
the silicon does not really wear out
it's pretty much the same risk as any other second hand card, if you get it from a miner who never removed dust it will be worse, if you get it from a miner who cleaned it when he had it, mining would have used less power than some games do
miners want you to believe they are selling you fresh cards that dont take any damage running 356 days a year, gpu manufacturer wants to sell you new card. anyway, hope they all suffocate on their supplies
New world killed 3090s, mining doesnt
could be the fans and dust and heat pads not being as good anymore
nah pcgamer is fine usually
id just call it blown out of proportion
overall mining cards are prob better off besides fans
since they typically have less heat cycles than gaming cards
thing that kills most electronics is heat cycling aka turning on and off in most cases
dunno where the rumor with silicon wear even comes from
but thats not even a thing really for chips
we got no data to support it
the article even goes into how palit would have an interrest to sell you new cards and dont take it at face value
the BGA connections care
It ain't that bad of a buy, people keep mining rigs usually open and well cooled
the issue is the difference in thermal expansion between the silicon chips and the pcb substrate
thats why u get cracked bga joints and stuff
most notorious for this is laptops
anyway, any form of second hand card can be dead after two weeks because both desktop and mining gpus can be killed if you never dedust them etc.
im happy with my 2080ti and dont really plan to upgrade
they will as always start with the launch of the most expensive cards, that's how it always has been and makes sense from a sales point
also the huge wait for a big upgrade came with current gen since last gen was a bit of a joke
so there shouldn't be a demand from another gen stacked on it
and its still more cards so it's unlikely even if supply cant keep up that old stock goes expensive again since the old cards didnt just vanish
DON'T PLAY WHILE DRIVING
in theory much higher demand should be baked into the launches but I'm not gonna say anything for certain when russia could just decide to kill some supply chains xD
Also imagine being from a country which has the steering wheel on the right
Not driving
hes on the wrong side of the car anyway
the road u mean
What if car drives itself
no such thing yet. unless you have a chauffeur.
There is
But very very very early testing
And expensive
Pretty sure it has a VR headset you can put on as well
yea def not available for mr pleasant
Played some killing floor 2/wwz and some other random game.
It's a beast
Can't wait to get mine
Really impressed with perf
Especially in wwz
Which was on high
It does get hot though
@fair gull always
i didnt ask if you stroked yourself
Someone managing SteamOS at Valve is a brony :')
I dont think thats how that works just because some open source package was included..
why specifically ponymix? XD
is there another tool that does the same?
anyone know if SteamOS is using Pipewire audio?
it does
Im just curious
if there are other tools they might not have a feature or it just works and no need to try something else
personally I couldnt care less if a package would scream profanities at me as long as it works
sure, but then the question is who cares
nah, its just funny they chose this particular mixer
looking at pamixer
it has some feature requests that i can imagine ponymixer does better
yes, i too choose tools just based on the name
Care to share some examples
Solid disagree
I mean for a Pokemon sure, but I don't want my browser to be on fire and run away from me when it sees me
To Chrome is the act of treating with chromium, used on metals to make them more durable and shinier
Chrome is more pretty than ie and less breakable vs Firefox and made out of chromium
Perfectly fitting
Also the color chrome is bright yellow
actually this is really cool
even better if has a actually competent dacamp
great for short iem cables
oo
why do you mention that instead of their great budget options
Wait, all their earphones have weeb packaging?
Yep
aha
idk who told u chromium is bright yellow
Chromium is used for chromium yellow and chromium oxide green
Pure chromium is colorless
It gets color from one of it's several oxidation states
It has -4 to +6 oxidation states and they are all different colors
Reflectivity is not color
my man if u scratch it up its fuckin grey
every scientific resource also says its silver-grey
In the pure form of chromium or say in the free elemental state of chromium it is silvery metallic colour or steely-grey in colour and it is lustrous. And it is also a very hard and brittle transition element.
Only in the pure form it has this silvery metallic colour but in combined state chromium compounds are divergent vibrant colored compounds.
Compounds like dichromate, chromates of potassium, sodium, ammonium alums etc. are colored compounds.
if it was bright yellow the reflections would all have a bright yellow tint
because believe it or not something reflective has a color and it can be non reflective aswell
NOPE
at least they warn you
ill just do the whole routine of leaving
ISPS here just charge you more
and then they offer me a new contract
"Hey Google, change the light to purple and change the brightness to 30%"
YEP
One year of this prices probably
nvm 😦
2
nice prices lmfao
Last year this was like 25€ in Slovakia
Idk if that changed
Oh, nvm, sorry
It’s actually 20.90€ atm
its always a case of ringing up and saying im leavin
UK is always a shithole
@pale sigil do you have TV cable?
Or does BBC come barging at your door every 2 days saying you have to buy a license?
DOCSIS 3.1/Coaxal
Mum pays for the TV license
if i had my own place id tell em to fuck off
Bruh
I'm amazed you still haven't rolled that into the taxes.
Imagine having a law that says you legally have to have a TV cable
Fuck that
The law is you have to pay a license to receive TV signals
I don't have nor need or want TV
Still shit like
Literally every country has a budget for state TV and Radio.
It's part of the culture and museums portfolio.
They count any display as a potential source
And I use neither so thanks no thanks, not paying
Great - Let's close all the libraries and museums. Cause no one uses them.
Art? Fuck that - Let corporations take over. Et cetera.
Good thing here nobody actually asks for you to actually have a TV license
WHY ARE MY TAXES GOING TO STUDENTS? I AM AN ADULT WHO GRADUATED TWENTY YEARS AGO
rreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Tbf other than VAT I do pay no taxes
here its not part of the budget and people have to pay it directly to provide them money from not the government since we did have some years where state funded media did a bit too much propaganda
same cost in the end but removes the state being the one that pays the media
Fuck BBC, Sky is my new best friend
Make tv a tax - everyone pays, everyone gets to complain.
and as much as I think mainstream media sucks I still take them over "journalists" like keemstar and other full blown idiots
We used to have a system like the UK (except less enforced cause we're not a surveillance dystopia). Made it a tax two years ago and suddenly the discourse on what should be funded with the media money is much more nuanced.
Cause everyone pays - and everyone gets a voice.
Yeah Sky is atrocious and far worse than BBC
The new system also costs a lot less for low income, cause now it's part of your taxes, not a flat fee per household.
Seriously though... id rather pay 25 quid for 60 down than 52 quid for 200 down
will suck
but refuse to pay 52 fucking quid
I will say this though - BBC is 200% too large for its budget. Shit like Doctor Who doesn't belong on state television. It's a Netflix budget show.
Have you ever watched Doctor Who
it has insanely low budget up until recently
Its also one of their most popular shows
Oh please. It's been funded out the ass since the revival.
Do you have any idea how expensive CGI was in 2005? xD
TV Series CGI has -always- looked cheap and rushed compared to movies.
2007
Hell look at literally any of the capeshit shows. Supergirl, Flash etc...

that ep is from 2007
here
Great speech from Danny Pink before commanding the Cybermen to save the world from its darkest day.
amazing cgi
You're kind of glossing over my point 😛
Let's see... The budget started in the region of about a million quid ... an episode.
Which is like 75% of a modern Arrow/Flash episode. Given very rough numbers.
But sure - Low budget series.

Discount batman with a bow.
Tf is flash?
Probably because Arrow has some of the worst effects on TV, same with most CW shows
but the actors are also whats costing them
I guess I'm pretty outdated having not watched TV since 2018
These are pre-famous numbers.
Switching actors every 2-3 seasons IS a clever budget choice though for BBC I admit.
sounds like they have series they should not do then
And fucking sucks.
They've had two fucking seasons to get the plot going. But no. Let's take it nice and slow.
1m is not much
tbf
Capaldis series was full of cheapo stuff
1mil is not much
It is when you're comparing it with a US major network show.
Hell most of the set props are made by uni students for free

I know this because i knew said students during Jodis era
so they overspend and underpay? double trouble
£1 million is literally nothing
compared to what it brings in
and BBC spend more on other shows
It is literally on par with major networks 😛
Returning to my original point - BBC has no business trying to compete with Netflix and HBO with public money.
You're only helping my point here.
next question why tf is it bringing money in, if you already pay for it why is there still ads in the program
And that is entirely off-topic to the original discussion 😄
That TV license you're trying to hide from? There's no reason why it's anywhere as big as it is - which is why turning it into tax based budgeting and actually putting a spending muzzle on the BBC would make it perfectly fair.
sales through other items, merch, digital sales, dvds etc
broadcast licensing too
Has anyone tested an app called "FilterKeysSetter" ? Does it remove input lag?
has anyone had a problem with discord where it's showing incorrect time/dates
yea has been going on for a while
i had my phone's discord being 4 days behind, so all the messages were in the future
thank you future @sudden glacier for letting me know
took a screenshot of it
anyone who sadly has schizophrenia are having a bad time
I would love for DW to jave a bigger budget, but then I don't pay for a TV licence livin in oz
any program you run on your pc adds input lag if anything
if you want less input lag close as many apps as possible, have a keyboard with a high scanrate and 1 or 2khz polling at max to not fuck your cpu and have high actuation points
so close that dropbox, teamspeak, discord, razer synapse, logitech smth, browser etc
will do way more good for input latency
Enable the low input latency service
Told you I wasn't worried, not only did I get it set back to my current price but I'm not on 350 instead of 200
hey you made it to 2nd world country level grats
Good news for me is I got an option for 5 gigabit symmetrical fiber
The problem is it costs $190 a month
The slowest fiber is 100 symmetrical and costs 60 a month smh
Yay United states
oh hey, at least you have the option, unless docsis 4 is suddenly done I dont see an option to upgrade from 1gig anytime soon in this country
thanks telekom
Doccis doesn't do symmetrical?
Thing is I have no other options in the UK where I live
No
3.1 doesnt have above 1 gig iirc
Well here you get 1gb 100up
ah ok nvm 3.1 can go above 1gig down they just dont offer that yet or have shit net
Wow apparently it can do 10g down 1g up
But I believe that's per node not per user
That’s not too much
yea could be, either way they still push that instead of 4.0 so at some point it will stagnate again
Apparently 4.0 is gonna improve upload a ton
And no they can't because that's per node
Alot of people share the same node
thats what I mean, yea could be that its per node
but 4.0 is still not out and it seems they want to put 3.1 out and then go back and do another upgrade so it will take some time
4.0 is the same down but better up
Considering I never torrent
you gotta start replying to the right things
since I dont think you torrenting relates to vodafone not offering over 1gig here
also <insert german rant about VDSL vectoring causing delays to fiber deployment>
anyone got bored of hardware arriving in time? dont worry, intel still got you on delays yet again
https://medium.com/@mingchikuo/intels-sapphire-rapids-shipment-delay-to-2q23-is-detrimental-to-intel-and-its-server-supply-chain-a1de691bd093
hey thats what i got except i pay 35
cost adjusted for poor country
😦
I could get it 20.90€ in any city but where I live no cable at all
Best I can get is like 50/12 for that price with 2tb cap (after some negotiations
)
Wow lucky
There are some place in the US it can be good
But very few sadly in very few states
Well
5g symmetrical being available is a good sign for the future
There is an outage concern though, at least on TMobile
Oh
Also if you wanna go wireless, you need to get antennas mounted otherwise problems
so someone requested 10 cases and got 10
The current joysticks are electromagnetic
They probably mean hall effect
^
Sweet
I have hall effect joysticks on my drone and it's so nice
Really don't understand why game controllers don't come with them

do you realize what you are saying
No
Optoelectric means there is something interfacing between the two
"Opto-electronics (or optronics) is the study and application of electronic devices and systems that find, detect and control light, usually considered a sub-field of photonics"
electromagnetic encoder implies that the magnetic part is relevant
oh
might as well name it as long as possible then
google "electromagnetic encoder"
don't be so petty
Or call it a hall effect encoder...
if it is named after the electric principle or the physics that allow it are basically irrelevant?
unless you have another way of making use of electromagnetism to sense something
Some do
Nice ones atleast
very few do
reason is cost in the end
Electromagnetic encoder is like saying electric computer
It's heavily implied already...
it is you being petty
They are always petty
if they say electromagnetic you can assume they don't wanna say "oh it is also made of atoms"
they obv say it because it is fundamental behind the principle they use to sense
🤷♀️ but why call it electromagnetic when they mean hall effect
cause the hall effect uses electromagnetism
they are not wrong
and it is not just some random word
I want to get a fancy strain guage stick though
A standard rotary encoder is using electromagnetism
They are fancy
Yes it is
electromagnetism is entirely irrelevant for contact based encoders
How dose current flow though it?
Lol
ok
Veriable resistance or variable capacitance it's beholden to the Maxwell equations no matter what
Lol
That's what you are suggesting...
Yes we know it's electromagnetic
Be more specific
why does it matter what they write on
Also most encoders now are all optical even if they look like they arent
It's easier to make
they still specifically sense the electromagentism
what
Very few are contact based
no
Open up eBay encorders
Joystick drift ones are all contact problems
vast majority is still contact based
Yep
Last few I got where optical inside
which controllers?
^^
also if you wanna get petty
do so over steelseries
for using "optomagnetic" switches
No idea but they were little though mount pulse encoders
Fuck steel series for many many reasons
Hall encoders for the main joysticks and an optical one for the scroll
I'm still surprised my HE doesn't get any interference from my finger magnets
Only if I pull the switch do I get anything
On my flight stick I can drift it by running my fingers around the base
Magnetism decreases in force with the square of distance
Yeah by the sensors in the stick base are further than the the thickness of the switch
The wooting is designed for really really small distances and to ignore everything over
I think they just have better noise rejection
Because there are so many keys moving close together
Try from the bottom of the keyboard
prob because once you have them above the magnets it wants to sense the difference is kinda irrelevant?
My finger magnet is likely 100 times stronger than the switch magnet
What makes you think that?
Generally 100x stronger requires more than 10x larger
And that wouldn't fit in a finger...
@someone who knows things about the technical specs of the Lekker switches, what's the specs of the magnet in there
Could also be orientation
On my left hand they alternate between N to tip and south to tip
I don't have also do the side to side ones
Nah
90 is hot
Your under it
Get something like GPUz to show you if it's throttling
I can feel the 60hz from about a foot away at 10amps draw
Also I can find live wires in walls if I plug something like a big light or heater in
I can also run my hand over breakers and find ones that are loaded
But I also get really tricklish welding aluminum because of the frequency of the ac
Vfds are the most fun you can feel the speed without looking at the display
now the question is can you tell the difference between 240 and 120V
Ok the wooting magnets are 2.5mm diameter and look to be around 5mm tall?
Split phase I can, but not really if it's single phase
I can tell us home 180* phases vs 3 phase split in apartments
You can feel the missing phase in apartment buildings
I mean, it’s hot but if it’s hotter than it should be depends on the environment too
stay under 90, 95 is usually the limit
Nah
Even the lowest quality silicon has tjmax in the 110 range
Anything lower than that is bad temp sensor placement
Basically if it's on, it's fine
Yeah probably throttles at 90
That's safety limits not physical
Yeah
i dont think you would even want to reach physical limit
That means it can do at least 100 before hurting itself
you like living on the edge
Well the higher you go the more it hurts itself overtime
Though the impact isn’t that high
Yes but if it has a software limit of 90, you won't be able to get it to go over that
There is zero effect from temperature
The only effects are from the temperature changing
If you turn on your computer in 30c weather and it goes up to 90 then back down it is less damage if you are at 0c and your computer goes up to 80c and then back down
it means your pc is fine and not close to melting like the other dozen times we said the same
Both your CPU and GPU will thermal throttle themselves on their own and you don't have to worry
Not entirely 0
Not for electromigration
More temperature = atoms move around more
Higher temperature can cause electrons to jump around when they aren't suppose to
That isn't damage
Electromigration is when the electricity carries other atoms to places they aren't supposed to be
Deckard got leaked, again
Looks pretty solid
Although can someone tell me wtf are these blobs on the rear of the strap
you know patents have this nice feature where you can look at the numbers and it says what the things are doing
If only I had the link to the patent
if only that would be in the replies of the tweet you linked 😛
If you are implying it is, then I am going through the replies of the OP and I can't see it
Ah the guy's replies are cluttered, it's there
Steam VR Fest July 18th?
Wonder what the capabilities of this thing are
Does it connect directly to my brain
Only through the symbionic link
X86 CPU, steamos, standalone and connectable wirelessly to a pc
Still up in the air
But prolly need to wait for announcement for that
And it's very easy to change that
neither are more important than wireless connection imo

Agreed
Nah I'd rather have a good screen
It is
that soon?
noice
I'll definitely pick up some VR games on the cheap
It would be shocking if it were better than the quest screens by a noticeable amount
Unless it's a grand
Quest screen honestly leaves, at least for me, much to be desired
The quest 2 is a $700 headset...
Yep
Facebook basically throws 400 in the trash for every one
They make it back from your data somehow?
Yeah it is amazingly washes out, looks like a grey filter on it
yup meta is heavily subsidizing it to get people on their platform
Dunno I use the oculus link all the time
That isn't the screens it's the lenses
the only way i'm using an oculus is via link
Wow that is quite disappointing
Dunno if honestly Quest 2 was the right choice
If they were glass they would weigh 4x as much and cost 5x or 10x more
At the time I was debating between HP Reverb G2 and Quest 2
Cannot beat the price for the hardware
I pulled the trigger on Quest cause G2 was on massive waitlist
The g2 costs 1200 in the end since you need to replace the controller
But nowadays I kinda wish I got the G2
g2 means you have to deal with windows mixed reality software, worse than oculus imo
and I already hate oculus software
Meh the only problem is the controllers
ruins my entire audio setup
the Quest 2 seems alright, but I don't want to jailbreak to use it
The wmr software is actually fine
and I'm fine paying more for something with a warranty I don't need to immediately violate to use
I mean it's bad but it's just about equal to the pre Facebook oculus software
Just use a throwaway Facebook and never use it to post anything
so deckard looks like a serious contender
You can't even jailbreak it
You can get your hardware bricked for that
That's not true
Say what
there's also that I'd be tempted to just use the oculus account for some VR games that are only on oculus store as well
Yes
I had not heard of a Quest jailbreak
and the bricking hardware thing
There was rumours of one but apparently Meta patched that instantly
a headset I can only use, that I paid for
when in Facebook's good graces?
fuck that
Tell me more
Is this random, why would a new account brick hardware?
It has a chance of bricking your hardware the old fashioned way
If Facebook thinks it's a bot account it bricks the associated quest when it gets banned
I am not that interested in the quest so I dunno if the bricks are recoverable via jailbreak (which I would hope they could be)
Why have jailbreak if you can just use someone elses account
also given what carmack did for the old quets I imagine when they are EoL they will become open and meta just wants current ones locked down at least
The CV1 was so nice
That sounds like something Facebook could easily ban them for
At least at the time
No it was not
It had headphones
It hurt to wear
Over a year in, hasn't happened yet
the cv1 isnt related to the quest so how is that relevant
Same company in theory
Oh oops, nevermind
yeah but carmack pushing for unlocking old quests doesnt relate to the cv1 at all
but hey, my CV1 right audio dies and deckard gets new leaks, now release it and its perfect timing
Announced on April 30, 2019, the headset was released on June 28 of the same year
That's definetly not true
That may have been when the steam page went up, but it was mentioned on Twitter? In 2018
I know that for certain because the first teaser for alyx was exactly 1 year after we learned about the index, to the week, and that was Nov 18 2019
I just remember they dropped it during a oculus event where people who streamed it ignored it and looked at the index lol
Yea that was the official release
It was purchaseable between the official release and when the alyx store page launched
After that it has been perpetually out of stock
yup that part I remember
Either way if they aren't in production now, they won't have it available for normal people to buy this year (people who don't reserve first minute)
well I dont think there are as many people leaking or in the know about it compared to cpu/gpus
so maybe it is
also
so july 18th would be a good time if they do announce something
The index was leaked in the hdv phase the most out of any hardware I am aware of in recent memory
Not like old Intel where samples were sold at retail a year ahead of launch, but there were pictures of the index very early in 2018 (we didn't know what it was then)
Yep
I don't recall if it was actually attributed to Valve though
People were speculating however
Kinda weird for an engineer or whomever to just take a photo of the assembly line or such
There is a valve customized chip in the index, the
Lol
Do you really think that is weird?
Imagine you could sell the picture for a thousand bucks
An entire months salary (or two or 3 outside of the us)
If I was a chinese engineer, then weighing in the risks, maybe
Those poor folks don't get paid
If I was a Valve employee I would not even have the thought
They all have similar issues with salaries
Yeah maybe I'd try to tip TMZ or such for some little cash
Although that's a shitty celebrity publication so yeah
Cities skylines uses ton of ram
Yes and no. It preallocates RAM pretty aggressively. Whether you actually need it depends on your assets mods.
https://hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_hdpvrpro60.html Hey all, thoughts on the Hauppauge HD PVR Pro 60 as a capture card?
I have an old Elgato Game Capture HD60, but it doesn't work on Linux whereas that's what I use daily now. I saw that the Hauppauge uses UVC, which I think works on Linux, and they even have instructions for setup with OBS, which is superb.
I like the passthrough it offers, too, as I might play rhythm games (and some action-heavy games while I'm at it), so low-latency monitoring/passthrough is important. I see it also has standalone recording, which isn't integral but probably useful in some contexts. I don't (think I) have anything that can output above 1080p60 except for my desktop as of now, which is fine as I can just use OBS to record my desktop directly and a capture card for everything else.
If this turns out to suck, I can probably return it if I get it tested in time. I'm hopeful it'll work, but I suppose there's always the off-chance it won't. I just want to know if this card is a good deal for 1080p60 recording before I spend $100 plus shipping costs and some of my time on it.
Any recommendations for/against this card or another capture device are much appreciated. You might have to ping me though, as I don't check here often.
stand alone, usb, 4k, h.264, encoder, skype, vmix, zoom
Get an 8$ chinese usb stick

Today's capture card review is pretty fascinating. This capture card is the cheapest capture card you can buy, and is actually a worthwhile Elgato Cam Link alternative. I'm really not sure where this came from, but I'm sure glad it did. Let's review the "Can't Link" (Thanks, Arsenio Dev!...
This is why
Perf wise, it matches 100$ Elgatos
I actually bought one
And it works, and it's actually good
Thanks for the input. Someone else recommended a stick like that too. I'm mostly concerned about the resolution and latency, but I suppose for so cheap it's a fair trade-off
If you watch the video
If you get the right one
These are some of the fastest sticks around
The latency is incredible
Far superior to elgatos
Almost as if elgato is shit
I have an Elgato, and I can confirm the latency is pretty bad. But at least it has passthrough. That said, no Linux, which is pretty much a deal-breaker for me now.
Of course, low latency is good, but for some games, I might need minimal (perhaps even no) latency. I suppose that's where an HDMI splitter comes in, though.
Seaking of audio companies branching out
Few days ago this was announced
It's not only moondrop though
FiiO is also making a keyboard
The fiio one looks so tacky
Apparently it has an integrated DAC/AMP combo
Interesting
does it have its own hardware encoder?
and passthrough?
Afaik no encoder
As for passthrough I don't really remember
My streaming days are long gone
But maybe the cheap stick market got better since then
I can't discuss the current ecosystem
no passthrough; that's why I would need an HDMI splitter with it
apparently the specs are pretty crap across the board with these things, and while I don't record enough (nor have the following) to say I need good quality, it would be nice to have something to keep that works well. That's why I'm torn on whether to get either the card I was looking at that appears to actually be net good for $100+ (returns shouldn't be too hard) or a fourth of the price for something that might not be as good but still works (returns? lol).
The video capture can capture both HDMI video and HDMI audio, sending audio and video signals to computers and smart phones for preview and storage. Without external power supply, compact and portable. Plug and play, no need to install additional driver software, easily connect your DSLR, camcord...
It seems the good one is still around
And it has a lot of derivatives
To be fair it actually has really good quality
I used it for Switch streaming
Was without a hitch
A bit of a fickle to set it up iirc
But that was due to me not knowing wtf I was doing
I don't livestream because of home bandwidth limitations (tmw rural Midwestern DSL); I pre-record my videos. If I streamed, I'd be more accepting of the lower res/refresh because 1080p60 is hard to upload.
Well personally I needed it for the Switch, and I am glad I didn't spend 80€ for a second hand elgato
15$ stick is worth
With that card plus a HDMI splitter, it comes out to $36 before tax ($38 after), which is undeniably a nice price. I'm just worried this won't suit me well later on.

is there hdcp hdmi splitters?
When loading my map it prellocated all the ram it could
I don't know, but maybe.
ik hdcp can be a pain in the bum
All I have with HDCP (afaik) is my PS4, but I don't see much problem disabling that for recording
I haven't noticed any games not display or anything
There are HDCP-compatible splitters as far as I can see. Not sure if it's actually HDCP though :v
i just cant be bothered to disabled it everywhere
understandable
sometimes i also restream movies to dicksword in private
I see
whenever I play any audio I get a ton of noise now
but just when some audio gets played, and depending on which for a short while after
Don't play noisy audio then
Sounds like a DAC issue
happens on any audio
unfortunatley
does not happen over USB
lol
welp
guess I am back to that now
didn't work before

WHY TF IS OUTLOOK PAYWALL LOCKED????
Got to have an office subscription to check for and send emails .-.
Outlook has always been a paid app. Windows has Windows MAIL for freebies.
.....oh boi
office it worth it tho, imo
Hopefully my job gives me a subscription
Cause they want everyone to use Outlook :/
Eh... maybe a decade ago it was. Now it's just an excuse to try and get you to get a subscription.
How is it worth it? :')
There is other office suites that are just as good
ohgod
Google Sheets would like a word. To name just one.
