Problem multigpu had was that sli and crossfire simply wasn't fast enough for games to take advantage of both gpus 100% unless they did major optimisations. Something that really wasn't worth doing because only a fraction of people who even owned the top tier gpus had a second one.

Since the silicon interconnect is now so close and so fast with very little latency. Both dies should be operating as 1 unit.

Looks like though from that article, the processors in the gpu will remain as 1 unit with multiple cache chips surounding it.

But it had issues. However if they manage to fix them and make it behave like one GPU, kinda like on M1 Ultra, that could be quite interesting and maybe bring crossfire/SLI back
