Linux sure
and when will wayland even be actually relevant
Amd is far better
But that's mainly because nvidia aren't making the effort with Linux
Ain't that desperate

great that you plan that
while we have 0 numbers on specs etc
- release drivers are bound to be a mess
optimization on release for those cards is prob garbage as well
nothing intel can do about that really
I'm not sweating enough to need enough GPUs for a solo wow guild.
and only because he gets tax returns on the electricity he uses
and essentially heats for free
Oh lmfao what?
you pay 20% taxes on mining
and 50% on selling
if you don't hold for a year
how should it be profitable
but the used energy is counted as a loss
which you can get tax returns on
and CPU mining is a lot less hassle
yes
and selling
same with cs skins btw
if people have to do tax returns they might get fucked retrospectively

What's that? Monero?
with unpaid taxes
how do you wanna cash out
proxysto.re, lmfao.
Nah nah.
which you have to do taxes for
Ship the hardware you buy offshore and use proxy stores to buy shit in USDC.
on mining, yes

might work, would prob get you in prison though
Sure, but you incorporate in Sweden and run as an LLC.
Then you can throw the company at the wolves.
would prob be considered somethign similar to that
but german tax law is completely stupid anyways
in regards to things like stocks etc
Plus there's a handful of places mining isn't taxed but selling is, so you mine there and sell in Sweden or what have you. No laws broken.
Strats.
Oh yeah, shitloads.
50%
and only if you hold it for less than a year
no
it is just counted as a second job
which is taxed with 50% per default
you might get a bit lower if it is your main job
but not by a whole lot
But if you manage to buy enough L3s via proxies you can immersion cool them, if your power cost is low enough that your ROI goes up by maybe 2 months.
Immersion cooling is extremely unbalanced.
Like if you want broken as fuck cooling that is absolutely how.
yea like I said
Small rig worth 10 grand, include 2 grand in coolant and you can actually cool something like 400kW output.
he does it with a loophole
so he can heat for free
and then focus more on trading hardware in the warmer part of the year
aaand its delayed to april 21st lmfao @fickle ore
I love the chaos in this screenshot :')
Weeeeb
on the bright side I can probably see reviews now before I get it lmao
That is one hell of a teen
Give him a job at NSA or MI6
some guy got it in pantheon discord for 1065€ idk how
Maybe dell premium
probably 20% discount for either student or dell benefit program
Hmm
but if you can spare it I would recommend you grab one now so you get it by like june lmfao
i mostly wanted to have an upgrade for when next gen comes and I can upgrade so I dont mind waiting a bit
and hey if it delays again maybe I can convince them by annoying support to give me a discount lmao
next gen?
GPUs
Yeah.. about that.. expensive hobby 😛
well I dont have many other expenses so it's manageable at least xD
got a house?
sorta? bit complicated to explain
might go for 7800 class since I think I can write it off as expense for work potentially hehe
nothing to be ashamed of living in mom's basement bruh xD
Sure, if you're a dev you probs can
oh no I literally did that during college bc it was cold downstars lmao that's not it
moved my entire setup into the basement while it was 40c outside and I had winter clothes on almost lmfao
FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 is AMD's next generation upscaling technology, delivering similar or better than native image quality using temporal data.
In this talk, Colin and Thomas will first discuss how this new technology is able to significantly increase image quality, diving into some of the algorithmic aspects which enable FSR 2.0 to ...
@fickle ore I was off with guessing june, end of july is the estimate if you order now lmfao
ya the guy had july too in other discord
Do you want a 3080TI 😆 😆
why would they
just in time for next gen to launch at the same prices but amd and nvidia will just keep the extra margin kek
In that case will benefit console makers profits
unlikely
probably still on side of chipmakers since they would do supply agreements for console size orders
I was looking at that monitor. Heise did a test though and they are claiming that there is a flaw with the pixel arrangement on them, that makes sharp corners appear really colourful. No idea how severe it is i.e. if you can really notice it on 4k https://www.heise.de/hintergrund/Monitor-mit-QD-OLED-im-Test-Samsungs-neue-Display-Technik-ist-verkorkst-6582133.html
yeah I saw that as well, but from user reports it seems to be that the better clarity and such make it look much better even with those issues
and since I already expected to not get one of the few early shipments I wanted to get in queue so I can get one if it's fine and cancel if it's not fine when rtings/tft/hub find bigger issues till then
sure. im also really curious about the burn in, or how annoying it is to always have to run the pixel refresher
but it looks like a good monitor nonetheless, everything i want in it
would need to upgrade my 1060 tho, good thing 3080 fell below 1000 euros today for first time in god knows how long
given they give a third year on warranty when we used to have reduced warranty on oled monitor a while ago, I'm fairly confident there
but yeah even with fsr2 that gpu might struggle a bit haha
i think the warranty states something like severe burn in or something, so def a scenario where they can claim its normal/non severe
oh yeah but I doubt they made regressions on that part and real burn in isn't really a big deal anymore
still has some image retention but thats temporary and if you go crazy on brightness it's life will be over faster, but I don't run my screens super bright anyway

cool device!!
Why's it flesh color?
would be even cooler if it was just a app
Depends on model.
Eeeew, you nasty, nobody wants a 3080TI
Trade you a 3060Ti for it, everyone wants those.
https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/products/astell-kern-uw100-true-wireless-earphones Thoughts about these, anyone?
The AK UW100, Astell&Kern's first fully wireless earphone based on their proprietary sound technology, provides uncompromising Hi-Fi sound even in wireless settings. A rarity in True Wireless Stereo (TWS), it has a separate embedded high-performance 32-bit DAC as well as a Balanced Armature driver for accurately re
Ba drivers are ba d
If you have to eq out the ba harshness you might as well get a proper super dsp set like the Samsung or sony
And save $150 or 250
Or just get the akg n400 because they are insano quality
Probably wait for someone like crinicle and gang to review it
AK has some nice but overpriced daps, but their iems haven’t really gone anywhere
Yee, I noticed that.
I have an SE100 that I got for B stock price after an issue with a cheaper AK320.
Not terrible.
N400NC, or are they different versions?
Basically a firmware upgrade
The nc doesn't noise cancel and sounds great (it's the one I have)
The only problem with the akg is the weight of the case
For $120 they were a bit too unrefined to recommend
For $50 they are an insane bargain
Oh crap they were more like $170
Yeah lmao.
Anyways I bought a set for me and one for my mom
They are noticeably worse than the Sony generally
However they eq way better and are alot more clear stock
Think I'll wait for the A&K shit to come out, but I'll grab a pair for my fiancé.
Not pulling the trigger on new earbuds for a while I think.
What do you have now?
Just some Sennheiser Momentum TWs. Got them for really damn cheap.
And what's your pain point with the sonys
Oh
Yea the momentums are garbo compared to newer buds
Nothing tbh, just have little need for wireless earbuds at the moment. It'd more be a pleasure thing than needed.
Ah
If you use the momentums at all I'd recommend getting the akgs to replace them still
Aren't the isines super sharp?
Yeah but I've long since EQ'd them.
They EQ really nicely and the body of the hardware isn't bad.
Tbh I did have to find some better hooks for them and eartips, but once that issue was out of the way it was smooth sailing.
Dunno
Never had them
Too many bad reviews for me
I've heard a few good reviews of the p1s but if cirin says a hard no I'm gonna pass
Are the ones he's currently shilling planar?
No idea.
Yea they are
7hz timeless
Heard alot of good about them
But
I need to be able to sleep on them otherwise it's useless for me
@fickle ore now they dont even have enough letters in stock to tell you about shipping being moved back again
Makes sense, everything's moving towards being services
Samsung will immediately follow Apple's lead like they always do
Well
After they make an ad campaign mocking Apple
I will paas on that
Wait
.....
So you pay over a grand for the phone
+
Apple care to get a service connection
+
Whatever price your phone plan is
+
Repeat last 2 each month
I assume you don't pay the grand
but instead like 50-150€ a month
to have whatever is the newest one
Still a shit deal
Unless the phone is like 10 euros a month
Cause no normal person upgrades phones every year or two
No no. They mysteriously lose it a few weeks after the new model comes out and get insurance money.
afaik most common is every second year
Apple don't give a fuck about ewaste
Having a dangerous to remove custom made power cable specific to one piece of hardware clearly shows that
They even tell people it's not removable in the support pages
still confused why they don't just use the connector of the new imac
would prob be a lot cheaper
@fickle ore and I got unlucky again
It's kinda neat
However you're paying 45$/m for two years to own a phone. It'll be a total of 1080 (roughly and without taxes and stuff.
do you still need to buy the pixel at full price?
I don't get why people spend so much on phones
^
I spent £230 on my current and I got it in 2019
I spent 250 on my current one and got it in 2020
Mine came from Spain

Asahi Linux :D
In time fine high end comes down to midrange and low end
wat
Also not everyone in America trusts Chinese phones and the sasumgs and apples are desired they are seen as the best
Some things do some things don't
Camera sensor sizes is one thing that often stays high end only
Give it a few years and most of it will be available
Nah
The inch sensor probably not
Small sensors will get better, but big sensors cost money
1 inchers have existed on phones since 2014? And that still hasn't trickled down
Most phones did not have a 1inch sensor though at the time edit: correction
Only now flagship phones are coming with em
My bad, I hate typing on glass
2
Leica
Aquos r6
The Sony is fake
The 50mp 1/1.3 is not bad
But 75% of the dimensions is 60% of the area
Or 60% of the light
And even then 1 inch is still 74% the dimensions of the smallest pro sensors
(54% area)
Alright mate 1inch sensors are far in between, all I meant was 12mp sensors at least one are now available at a reasonable price to include in a lower price tag
Megapixels mean nothing
There's a 12 megapixel 1/3.2 inch sensor
Think iPhone 4 camera
An a7siii slaughters a cellphone 12 megapixel sensor
And it only has 12 megapixels itself
"1/.37" inch sensor
They are alot less important than you would expect
Anything over 8 megapixels depends more on sensor size than pixel count if you are looking at the full image
It's not a parameter
What is a pixel
It's not defined by the sensor
It's defined by the processing
An average "12 megapixel" camera is 48 million sensors
Rgbg
It is that
There's also foveon which uses stacked sensors but that's super expensive
Not camera sensors that can fit in a cellphone
Currently everything used is Beyer bsi sensors on cellphones
It's not
A 108 megapixel sensor doesn't have 108 million pixels
And a standard readout of the sensor is 12m rgb values
Same story with everything above 20mp in phones
Actually speaking of at some point there some rgy sensors
And cmy
Which reaaaaaaally didn't work
Define a pixel
Yea but what if your array is rrrrggggbbbbgggg
4 light sensors under each color filter of a standard Beyer pattern
Oh but what about pixel shift
And natively downscaled sensors
And besides that's all software not hardware
My point is that megapixels don't matter and aren't what you need to pay attention to
Yep
Imo as long as you have at least 30m photosites you are good on resolution
I've seen beautiful images that are 1 megapixel or even 900k dots
No they aren't
Pixel pitch is a variable on modern sensors not a parameter
Define resolution
If you are diffraction limited you are limited in resolution to your light scatter
Phones are usually diffraction limited
That's not how that works
In fact that's the exact opposite of how that works
The only reason you even can run into it on bigger cameras is because the lenses allow you to intentionally restrict them with smaller apertures
Do you know what an aperture is?
F0.00000001
It was 😎 when Samsung did the variable aperture
It wasn't very useful tbh
It's too small a sensor, the max aperture is still too small
Maybe now with these bigger sensors it could help more
If you could do 1.4 to 2.8 or 3.4 that would be nice
Do you know what effective aperture is?
Basically it's the size of aperture that the camera sees
Sensor
If you take off a lens you see this for example
The visible size of circle is the effective aperture
That effective aperture is what affects distortion
Well specifically diffraction
Aperture is seen from the front and doesn't depend on sensor size
It's the ratio of aperture as seen from the front (physical aperture) to focal length

@wheat plume
desk suggestions?

I've always said - trawl Facebook Marketplace and such for a motorised standing desk.
You can usually get them super cheap used and in great condition. And they are generally super easy to change the tabletop on if you want something fancier down the road.
I paid like 110$ for mine. And then had my dad trim the top slightly, cause it was DEEEEEP. Didn't need that much space. 😄
Moar watts
isn't it fun to see "news/leaks" of info that's over half a year old

question to any cooling-oriented peeps
i want to get https://www.amazon.com/Phanteks-Mid-Tower-PH-EC400ATG_DBK01-Tempered-Digital-RGB/dp/B07TTDW9KV
Should I get any non-stock coolers if #1 reason to get it is my current case has 0 airflow and my new gpu is cooking itself inside at 80c+ temps?
Hard to say. It does include three front fans that definitely add airflow.
But they obviously won't match no-nonsense, non-rgb fans from Arctic or Noctua.
so this + 2 additional Arctic p12 fans? additional problem is that my mobo is Asrock B450 pro4 and has not enough slots for fans
Nothing a fan splitter cable or two can't solve. 😄
For regular fans using a 1to3 splitter is perfectly fine. I have three of these to power 9 fans in my case.
Or alternatively buy a fan controller that plugs into USB2 on the motherboard.
apparently the headers support either 1A or 2A load, so splitter should work with 3 fans?
oh 😄 and should it be 3pin or 4pin
Most fans are 4pin unless super cheap. Might as well grab a 4pin splitter. Cause only one fan gets 4pin - the rest just follow its speed.
ok! thanks guys
:')
OOOP XD
OOOOOOO
THEY SORT OF CLARIFIED WHEN "AFTER Q3" IS
Good news, by the time I get mine, hopefully the official Valve Dock will be ready to buy also???
no they just added info for people who dont know what Q3 means
that's the same info still
October is literally Q4 ;-;
yes and after q3 means it has to be in q4...
yep ;-;
ok so but then it's still no new info?
it weighs 6 hundred and Nice grams....noice

that glare is real...
Yeah.....space is always used for file system stuff

@wheat plume steam client now notified you when you're up for buying thr deck
just high demand and the generic long production times
Once they get through preorders, itll be able to be bought like normal
well, next year
...
It'll prob be as bad as the index
Or
Well
As bad as wooting
XD
Pre order batches
XD
Valve index is in stock again and then again expensive
I wanna see Valve make headphones, apparently the speakers on the Deck are really damn good
yes they are but you also said that like 5 times already
yes they are but you also said that like 5 times already
yeah yeah im just so damn impatient ;-;
yeah yeah im just so damn impatient ;-;
yeah yeah im just so damn impatient ;-;
yeah yeah im just so damn impatient ;-;
I also meant the part about wanting valve headsets not even the waiting on the deck lmao
partner will love seeing that in his vs
Purchased a 3090 XC3 from a dude and was wondering why it had dog shit performance.
When the guy was putting it back together since it was liquid cooled before he put 2 layers of thermal pads on the back.
AH YES, INSTANTLY THROTTLING.
when does buying a used gpu make sense? prices are in free fall, also probably some miner card
Availability is still bad. And so are prices.
Also... Mining cards are not bad by themselves.
3080 is 975 euro in germany, thats a lot better and availability is good
Prob gonna get 6700 xt next thursday
Traded up for it.
Was a really damn good deal. Got to throw away one of my shitty LHR gigabyte cards for a 3090 + $600 worth of liquid blocks for it.
i dont know but in the current situation that thing was used for mining 99% so i rather have a new gpu and not worry
Can tell you from experience that mining doesn’t destroy a card any more or less than gaming.
Any performance ever tested has been within 1 or 2% on cards new and as old as 10 years ago. It just doesn’t matter.
ebay cards are currently more expensive than new, people trying to get rid of their cards asap
So long as it’s kept cool and you aren’t dunking it in voltage then it’ll be fine, doesn’t matter the workload.
Hell, miners are probably at less risk of a random card death since we massively undervolt cards so they run cooler. The entire game is efficiency and low heat.
I really want a 6800XT but I bet these damn companies bought them at 1000$ or so
So no way in hell they are putting the price down
yeah but it was worse before and they ll go down further
they all have ample supply now
6800xt chart
Not here, our companies buy maybe 10 or more units and they just wait until anyone buys them
gotta get rid of them in time before next gen launches in autumn
i think 4xxx is rumored to be released q4 22 or q1 23
4000 series yeah, that was delayed to Q4
both amd and nvidia are expected to launch the first models Q3/4
Defo gonna upgrade to Lovelace when it comes out.
Probably whatever the highest end part is. Sick of being on a 1080Ti for 6 years.
1060 here 🙂 but im in no rush atm

SteamOS on PS4
👀
I got no interest in Playstation xd
But you like SteamOS
yep
Alright so the raging inferno that is the back of a 3090 is insanely difficult to control.
Good thermal transfer is fine, but then the back of the card is 80 degrees and since there’s no fins there’s also no good cooling surface.
I suspect liquid cooling is the way to go here. I do suspect.
but some small fins on it and have a fan blow on it maybe?
That’s the current plan to make it usable, yeah.
Gonna be piecing together a liquid cooled abomination in a few days.
Got some spare and old components, some water.
Probably enough to not leak 100% of the time. Maybe.
wait..Fedora Workstation still uses Gnome 3??
Werent they the first to get Gnome 40?
https://videocardz.com/newz/intel-teases-march-30th-launch-of-arc-alchemist-discrete-gpus-for-laptops last day in the quarter is really cutting it close for a "Q1 launch"
Intel Arc launches on March 30 The company published a first teaser for the upcoming launch of its next-gen discrete GPUs. Hey if they actually launch on that date I will be super surprised
they wont because this is the launch for laptop SKUs
so who cares if they launch, gl getting a laptop
I suspect there may be some oem models
nah my brain was hopefull and made me type desktop lmao
this is all just laptop
but with "Q1 launch for laptops" happening on the last day, we know when we can expect the desktop parts in Q2 lmao
I guess reviewers might have a model on the date and maybe a g14 or w/e they use as flaghsip will be available?
but with how the other laptop launches are going currently I doubt anything more is coming that day
Not sure
The leaks of laptops have been happening for a while
Might have a few store models?
maybe? based on the entire 0 buyable models on zen3+ laptops that were "launched" during ces in january idk
though that could be that they only launched in the us so far, not sure how I could check tbh
yea they probably had a deal to release that on the same day
since its just a directors cut version
is that not already out?
directors cut
didn't they revealthis like 2020
same delay as the original had to come to pc I believe
ah nice, that was one of the reviews I was waiting for
aaand the only important part is coming in a follow up lmao
what is the important part
how text looks like
there was one review that showed it, but not in great detail
Aye i saw
and the other reviews were a first look with unboxing maybe
Aye
Its a nice monitor so far
if i get money coming that im hoping for
i will save up for it
might as well wait for second generation if you aren't ordering soon
haha prob
Ooft
On one hand irs still prob better than my current
But on the other it's not exactly cheap either
Yeah quite unusual, guess no subpixel antialiasing with that thing then
def waiting a bit with my order then. curious when samsung will bring the tech to their own odyssey line
I mean that picture doesn't say much, I'm not sitting close enough to see the pixels like in that picture so that might not be an issue
also, more reviews will be out before it would be shipped to you anyway
if it doesn't work for me I'll just cancel it or send it back after trying it myself
Yeah you just probably won't get subpixel antialiasing, which does means text might look a bit softer.. but on the other hand few things do subpixel antialiasing these days
cleartype is like the only thing that does that
which is quite idiotic and microsoft should finally fix that
the idiotic part is the assumption that all displays still have that exact subpixel arrangement
which is clearly not the case
You can run the tuner if you don't have a standard RGB arrangamenet
But yeah all the new modern stuff only does basic grayscale antialiasing
would an average computer user do that?
They'd get the their local techy to fix it, or just think it's normal
things that would not be needed but are making the experience better, give data without compromising your privacy etc.
so as the image shows, non precise location data to show you stuff that is actually sold in your region for example
instead of getting info about a product only sold in another country
idk no clue what side that is and how they do stuff
if you want to know what the rules are check the GDPR guidlines on what websites can/can't do
every site I use had option to either use only necessary or an option to uncheck all boxes, never had one that needed manual removal I think
complaint_mini.jpg The EDPS is the EU’s independent data protection authority. We make sure that that the fundamental right to the protection of personal information is respected by the EU institutions, bodies and agencies (EU institutions). Complain to the EDPS We supervise ...
you file the complaint to the host provider then
Does that not break sites?
and it also says you can say why you did not contact another place, so you can still file a complaint without doing something else first
if there is no other institution that can take care of it
change it then
Be precise with your middle click?
I mean it’s just dragging up and down, shouldn’t need it to be super slow.
no..regular scrolling
change the scrollspeed in settings to what you want ¯_(ツ)_/¯
dont use it so I wouldn't know where it is
Doesn't the scroll speed just depends on the os settings?
the os might have a setting but you can also change it in browsers and other apps
it seems only the first few batches had that issue
Oo.....
Nee touchscreen gestures on plasma desktop
Just in time for my new laptop that doesn't have a touchscreen!!!
The amled image just looks like someone lit the room better or something
Yeee. Looks better too, but that’s merely a trick of stupid human eyes.
Humans like brighter colours due to evolution, we’re biased like that. It’s why real cinematography screens look weirdly dull. All of our current shit tends to be over saturated.
https://twitter.com/aschilling/status/1508429987455582215 ahaha that price
pee cores
Just run your system on LN2 forever.
Tbh I do miss the cases that could do that.
I was told like 17 years ago that 10ghz was right around the corner!!!
I STILL BELIEVE DAMN IT
Technically it was on one core.
But only under liquid helium conditions*
But only for 5 minutes before the PCB splinters*
But also it costs more than a car*
I want the EVGA Roboclocker to be a real thing.
Yeah I did
It doesn't have a touchscreen
But my previous one did
@wheat plumehun
why are you wasting money
The money you have spent has already surpassed a good one
Yeah ok sure if you actually want to put in that much R&D to make it work.
I'll give you fiddie bucks if you do it yourself.
LMFAO NO.
Use TECs?
Are you insane?
TECs are ridiculously bad for cooling active heat sources.
Jesus fuck I'm not looking to siphon enough heat to melt titanium.
@wheat plumefree?
Technically it's also possible to fly all of Manhattan up to space if we use enough boxes. Also a stupid idea.
No ...
I am just saying that I wish plasma has these gestures back when I had my previous laptop that had a touchscreen and that my new one I got a few months ago doesn't have touchscreen
I mean that's true, TECs can be cheap.
Y'know what isn't cheap?
Enough power or the upgraded circuits required to force that much power through high enough grade TECs.
Or we just don't use TECs.
Ooooor
You touch use the proper system of serious cooling, cascade
Tecs do have a minimum temperature btw
The lowest I'm aware of is above -40c
Tecs?
I can't find a single reference to a tec that can produce a delta of 100c
Much less the 120c that you need from room temp
Ok but there's no point if you need ln2 to cool the hot side already
?
You either need ln2 or cascade
And you might as well just cascade all the way
I mean if you're doing cascade now we're talking about so much cooling that the unit for a PC is the size of a small truck.
Anyone use klipper, curious about resource usage? Is 512MB RAM sufficient for all features except time lapse?
Nah
Most cascade units are about the size of the pc
I mean in the above context.
So TEC cooling with cascade to cool the TECs.
It'd be absurd.
Well
Cascading tecs isn't a terrible idea
Cascade for slow adjust tec for fine control
It'd still be ridiculously energy intensive.
But you would only want to be throwing 1-2w of heat at that sort of system
It would be for scientific or test equipment
Not for overclocking
anybody have recommendations for true wireless earbuds, my current pair is repeatedly disconnecting
no
because I once had airpods and they broke after like a month, got a replacement and had the same problem so now I just don't buy apple products :)
had the same problem with an old ipod touch
that too ig
$47 on akg.com
but it does say 68% off
but they don't have audio pass through which might be a deal breaker since I wear them at school mainly
depends on if I find any alternatives
The buds+ are alot worse
You tried them both?
And the current version of the n400 kinda has passthrough
But if you want decent sounding passthrough you need buds pro, airpods pro, or wf1000xm4
They are true in ears
Check the Harman website
601, 602, 612, 701, 702 all cost near the same, around 120$
Even though the performance is kinda different on most of them
And then K712s are like +100$ cause new
Trying out the audio passthrough and it doesn't sound bad
But I can't figure out to enable it using the garbage feature controls
Works using the app
Ooh figured it out
Roll the finger around the back edge and it turns on and off
Nowhere near as good as the xm4s tho
How much does it cost on Amazon?
That's probably cheaper than shipping from the us
On their site it says $200
Can in two months xD
Unless that's without vat
Pm me the zip code or whatever postal identifier I can use to calculate shipping (doesn't have to be yours, nearby is ok)
https://drop.com/buy/ikko-oh7-iem?utm_source=linkshare&referer=GUD6DC how about the hand carved copper iems
Why do most wireless board look like this shit?
The k780 is a really pog keyboard
for budget ye but for feeling no
I have a few that my dad "borrowed" from his work
r there any good cheap ISO nordic 60% boards for work?
🤔 Some people are saying SteamOS 3 is based on Manjaro????
Is it not based on regular Arch??
It's modified enough that it doesnt matter
yeah..but if it really is Manjaro, that worries me :/
Manjaro is not the most stable for updates
I suppose it's more similar to Manjaro on terms of testing
Like
Manjaro is arch but delayed
Manjaro is Arch but custom kernel, delays to things but not dependencies, so it can cause a mismatch that makes the system not boot sometimes
until you manually upgrade the dependency that they are holding back
Yea so it's basically neither
It's in the family but not the twin of an existing member
if they make an update and something breaks that's valves fault then, not whatever it's based on
You can make custom art for the apps in the Game mode :D
so for non steam apps like Spotify etc
This
Well sorta
If the Linux kernel update breaks something then...
I mean sure but that aside
I desire a deck
Same....im in next year batch ;-;
also isn't that feature just the exact same you have on regular steam?
Yes but it's a new ui so usually basic stuff like that doesn't work out of box
I want to know how they made DeckUI work
Easy
is it a new "desktop" that gets autoloaded by the login manager?
yeah but what is it, in terms of Linux terms? Like is it running like an app that autostarts ontop of Plasma desktop or is it a new login entry that gets booted automatically by the login manager
Also I hate that the deck doesn't have a login
what does it matter
It's so bad
I dont think its an app, because you need to logout to go into the plasma desktop
so idk how they made it work
it cant be something like big picture
It's how steam.os used to work
Lana
Steam.Deck UI is literally big svreen v2
SteamOS isn't new
Yeah....but you cant simply exit deck UI and be immediately on Plasma desktop, it logs you out and logs you into plasma
They basically started over after steam machines
so how are they setting it up?
its a session in the login manager?
Vhttps://youtu.be/xIZT6xHMIV0
GTX780 3GB
1TB
3.2GHz i5
16GB RAM
You can hsve big screen boot auto on Windows also
Upon login
but yes
Its an entirely new OS, basically
Considering the differences between Debian and Arch
The os is entirely new
The software that runs on it is somewhat reused but still mostly developed recently for the deck
Sure steam machines can update to the new versions and all that but it's still for the deck
yeah....
Good luck running up to date and custom drivers on Debian
Well regardless, how it works is the same.
The Deck needs to have up to date software and drivers, its crucial for game support
Debian cant do that, unless you spend too much effort to backport
Yea if you bought the deck to run the de you are purchasing the wroooooong product
isnt this ChimeraOS guy?
Yes
Not a clue
On the steam deck???
I have
Yes
??
My god the replies
Uuuuh
y u get Deck for no gam?
You reaaaaaaally bought the wrong product
Didn't say no gam
get something cheaper then without the latest APU to safe some money
well, not main gam
Basically all the other portables have a better screen
you cant get laptops this well specced for the price
except storage size
and port selection
I want a system I can take anywhere I want, my pc on the go because fuck laptops, just wack a USB to hdmi in anywhere I go, hotels, uni, grandparents, holiday etc
With the added benefits of games
All other options are poo
games*
*ones that dont need anticheat....
No because I don't wanna use a big laptop
And carry it everywhere
This was my dream machine
Ayya has a bunch of options
Gpd does too
I have a Windows pc I can boot up when home and kvm too
what sort of competitive game do you want to play on a steam deck anyway
like consoles are better for shooters than a steam deck
^
They have expensive options and cheaper options 🤷
True, if you can get used to controller
Picture this
and buying all your games again on i
if you say you can get used to steam deck inputs for a shooter you can get used to controller
and aside from a few competetive games most don't have anti cheat anyway
Nah
Gyro fine adjust is infinitely better than just joystick
Practice with gyro and you'll get good
And there are good gamers that use trackball
Dunno about the deck but the sc is exactly on par with a trackball
it's not awful, I know someone who had a couple hundred hours on trackpad in TF2 and was great
Which is why gyro fine adjust is sooo good
I used it to play OSU LMAO
And it actually worked
but point was more that not having a handful of competetive games on the deck isn't an issue, inputs aside you'd also not want a tiny screen for cs go or similar
I'm awake, start working on my desktop at my desk with the deck plugged into a dock and a hub with kvm, gotta leave for uni so I'll just pick me deck up, get on the train and play some life is strange, arrive at uni. Plug the deck into a uni monitor, do work with my everyday desktop... After a hard day I go to my grandparents for tea, chill on some games, maybe plug it in upstairs and do work or coding.
Now home from uni, plop the it into my Dock and carry on, no different devices such as a laptop, carry on like I always do, maybe I wanna play some destiny? No, click a button and now my monitor. Keeb etc us using my 3080 machine which I can either stream from or kvm as I said.
Ahh, a good raid, I'll go back to deck and carry on, go to bed, maybe stream into bed or play life is strange the Dock for the night.
The dream
suddenly tech fanfic out of nowhere
How does over the internet streaming work with deck
Does it run natively or need parsec?
Literally all I've ever wanted without breaking the bank
yeah, the Steam Deck "Competition" is pricey AF
Have you tried it?
Oh it works natively? Niiice
And the deck is designed with it in mind too
I'll throw steam on my server lmao
It has irs own encoding
I heard that Steam streaming to Deck works better than on any other device
Decoding but ye
Sorry ye
I've waited years for the deck
I've followed all the portable devices
They were usually insanely expensive and underpowered
I'm more hype for the deckard
But I will probably buy a deck
Tho it'll be for my mom
Nvidia shield
I don't like android
yess deckard
Outside my phone
Nvidia Android was p good
DECKARD
And android works amazingly with keyboard
gaben gib me vr naow
I also just realized that it's the steam deck augmented reality device
Can't believe I didn't make that connection
You deck head
"Deckard" sounds like an insult towards a Deck user
thats what gave the rumour the most credit when it first came out imo, since that is a joke that would fit for a product name
nah I bet its just internal name
They might have just trademarked it because it's such a good idea
HOLO
This fits more than you think it does
The codename for the current SteamOS version is "Holo"
Oh my goodness
Either Gaben is a weeb or just likes the word Holo, idk
lol
I didnt say make
I implied deciding the codename for the OS they are building for it
you dont need to code to do that
ez
Gabe has nothing to do with the daily runnings of valve recently
huh?
@wheat plume did you not see when j posted these literally during first shipments reee
yes xd
Gabe does nothing
https://alter.com/trademarks/deckard-97071210 hmm thats the only trademark I could find, I dont think thats valve though
How do you think he responds to emails
True......true
Stay a while and listen ..

Yea Gabe is currently operating as a stamp machine while senior valve employees do the work
He reads emails, makes public appearances, plays dota, and throws money at neural tech
ah, not a big diablo fan, but good one
he'll still be the one to make negotiations with other companies like dispaly tech for deckard and such
Nope
but he aint going to touch code on a daily basis
Most of that stuff is handled by the more senior members
maybe, but I would say at least when they had to sue a company he was involved
Sure but that's only because he was legally required to
yeah but making VR is also one of his big personal interest, he's not just telling his team to do it and be fully hands off
He's not interested in vr
cant imagine that
He is now fully invested in neural linking
Valve "perfected" vr 8 years ago with the Vader
I'm very confident that Gabe has that
I mean as an ex TF2 player I definitely know he easily can abandon something without care
That's not gabe
There are still people who care about tf2
But they can't work on it because that would look bad for their valuations
well he used to care about the game more, and then it was also fine for people to work on it
Yeah better just work on more games that get silently canceled
ngl valve is such a strange company, so many good and so many bad things in one place
Who knows maybe Citadel is actually something we'll see for reals one day
The good and bad are the sides of the same coin
doesn't mean I don't still have the silent wish it was different xD
Yup
Valve would be alot better if abrash hadn't had his way
Both in the end are the same
🤔 Oddly specific app I found in the software center
Yes and no. Tax reporting is usually quite different from country to country. So you wouldn't expect one app to work everywhere.
Like in the US you have to send in EVERYTHING and make sure it's correct - and then the IRS tells you it isn't correct, cause they had the papers anyway and just want you to work for it. (Great system)
In Denmark the IRS has most of the info - you basically just need to make minor adjustments to your income if incorrectly reported, deductibles like commuting gas and tickets.

If your next-gen GPU gains are getting stagnant cause of slowing down innovations, just make it sip more.
Ez performance increase
not how that works but ok
Sure... cause you really need two of those for checks notes less than 100W more than my 3080 that has dual 8s.

it's the hall of fame from galax, those are made for XOC xD
so yes you do need them
It says 480W on paper. My 3080 is like 380 or something.
I have - doubts.
they get put under LN2, that goes way above paper specs lmao
And yet - Even at 516W which is what it says on paper as being max power draw... that is still within spec of a single 16pin
This is an obvious case of BECAUSE WE CAN
Which is fine - I'd never buy this anyway. Couldn't care less 😄
they already had the 3090 kingpin draw above 600W under ln2
so you definitely want more than one for that
also if they do it like evga that 516W is only a limit with stock bios
and XOC bios with unlocked tdp will be available separately for warranty reasons
Just give us a separate power supply already
built in*
Aw yeah take up more slots
Hmm don’t like the direction this is going
Ima just buy a mac studio
then do that
It draws 600w using the ln2 bios even on air
that's gonna be one good airflow you have with that though
Well by air I mean ambient
Can't get a kp without watercooling
couldn't find any numbers with a quick search so I didn't want to make a bigger number than it is
though I guess that does it https://twitter.com/Buildzoid1/status/1508795079586164741
so ya, second 16 pin is 100% needed
obviously KP edition also has two of them
this shit is hilarious.
Gotta get that 8% performance boost in Fortnite.
#FrameratesWinGames
Also is it just me or does a 3090 with that high a power limit also run that fast?
nah based on techpowerup the ti does scale a bit better
if you compare no ti and ti scaling in unigine
The ZOTAC RTX 3090 AMP Extreme Holo is the longest graphics card we ever tested. At more than 350 mm long, this triple-fan, triple-slot monster has enough power to handle all the latest games at 4K resolution. The RTX 3090 GPU is highly overclocked, and the power limits have been raised, too.
granted its 462 vs 480 watts
but I'd say the fact you have all vram on the front now makes the cooling a bit better so maybe not an equal comparison
Fedora is the only gnome desktop based OS that loaded the right keymapping for my laptop keyboard.... GG Fedora :D
I had to previously use Plasma desktop cause it has much more detailed keyboard settings
sounds too simple, can't be happening
Nah, im happy with Fedora so far
its so neat and everything just works, other than the display brightness being set to 100% every time I reboot or boot the laptop
no, im using Fedora on my laptop
Arco is still on my computer
sell it
Server it
server it for what
Not a clue
Maybe media
Or a light game server
Or make a NAS
both shit ideas
Pi NAS is just pure suffering
making it for the sake of making it doesnt sound like what he's looking for though

Intel Fellow :') idk why that made me laugh
What the fuck is that mesh even. xD
mesh for good airflow clearly
have a feeling that just like the 90ti in general that's just a testrun for next gen blocks if it's looking new
Yeah, otherwise wouldn’t be lot of area
Looks like there are separate chambers
Though ngl confused a bit by uneven number of inputs/outputs
Maybe it’s sth like this
Make it have an external display at least

AMD preparing Zen4 for desktops, should launch in the coming months Reliable AMD leaker claims that AMD CPU codenamed “Raphael” are to enter mass production as soon as next month. According to Greymon55, who had successfully leaked AMD roadmaps before, AMD is now set to begin mass production of the next installment in the Ryzen […]
damn seventh gen already
That IHS looks hilarious.
Hmm well I thought this already was
yeah.. good luck with that
i’m not sure why they still try
watch it last half a year at most if ever becomes a thing
Agreed.
Drone delivery is a lovely thought, but is a super bad idea.
Time to train birds of prey to bring new target

good video
Literally train a larger hawk or something to hunt down drones and fly them back.
Lmfao.
Give it armored talon guards so they don't get ripped up by the props.
Stonks
Hmm could probably work
But ravens would be best bet
If you always give them food for brining drone
I am pretty sure kinda, saw ravens do very intelligent stuff
Question is if ravens are protected under law.
I know birds of prey are but idk about ravens
Problem with using Cervidae for that job is they aren't actually that big.
Wingspan probably isn't enough to take down mid air targets.
Eagles would easily be able to do it.
Train a Wedge Tailed Eagle for it.
Lmfao
Modern problems require modern solutions.
Imagine you're a drone flying to deliver a shitty maccas order and this thing swoops you.
Falconry is Pog ngl
Haliaeetus pelagicus vs a delivery drone
What are they gonna do?
Can’t harm birds of prey
But they can harm you
There's an endangered bird on an island like that.
Flightless bird, moving or touching or disturbing them in any way is grossly illegal.
And because the island is tiny they have no natural predators.
So they've evolved to be scared of nothing.
They have no qualms whatsoever about wandering up and climbing on you, and if that be the case then you can't legally move it away until it's damned ready to.
i remember it being the smartest
they are big brain that’s for sure
Technically no.
African Greys are the smartest through sheer IQ, but Ravens have the best problem solving skills.
Crows of various kinds are between the two.
Magpies as well.
