young pecan
#

Why a phone?

shadow minnow
#

Long bus travels

#

Long walking

young pecan
#

Ah, I getchu.

shadow minnow
#

And sometimes just convenience since used to it dogekek

#

But used to travel like 3 hours a day by bus

#

Now walk hour and half a day which is less tbf

#

Since M1 carry a laptop with me more often though so having to use phone for this less and less
Though atm need to get microchip studio to work on M1 and it not wanna work

#

May have to refund parallels if I don’t get it to work

#

Since useless

#

Visual studio toolkit or however is it called refuses to install

crisp granite
#

the M1 laptops are impressively thin and light for the battery life and horsepower

shadow minnow
#

Indeed

#

Today was the first time I almost ran out of battery tbf

crisp granite
#

nice

shadow minnow
#

Trying to get one vm environment to work for two hours

#

And using it in total for like 3 or 4

#

Ended up with like 12%

#

Couldn’t fully charge my phone from it pepecry

young pecan
#

How's virtualization on OSx?

shadow minnow
#

Pretty good

#

Though for windows not that cheap

#

And with M1 still won’t run some stuff

#

Since need windows 11 for arm

young pecan
#

Ngl after using Proxmox for so long I can't imagine switching to something else.

shadow minnow
#

Parallels is well, interesting.
Atm only really solid way to have vm on M1
It is pretty good with features, and has stuff you would use like dragging files directly accross and drivers working.
Also interestingly it instead of bypassing tpm requirement which is surprisingly easy, somehow stores tpm key in keychain and pretends it’s tpm.
Also interesting thing is that on macOS efficiency cores don’t work for virtualization though it makes sense I guess

shadow minnow
#

Hmm I guess. On M1 pro myself which means double the performance cores

#

Depends on usecase kinda

#

In optimal scenario can beat 11900k but idk about how would it do in virtualization

#

Ngl it really impressed me

#

Going from 2017 pro dogekek

#

But ngl parallels really feels as if it was normal os

There's already a couple issue with in video and AMD though it is a duopoly they do fight quite a bit about who is the better product it'll be nice to see if intel can make a product that actually doesn't suck

#

Is actually really good for efficiency but it's not all that powerful I'll grab it anyway and I'll use it as display outs for virtual machines and encoding cards for when I'm recording videos instead of using my main GPU

#

Because Intel has their drivers in Mesa which is super fucking nice for Linux un like Nvidia

AMD’s last major push for the AM4 socket: 5800X3D and six other Ryzen CPUs Today, AMD finally confirms the launch date of its first consumer processors with 3D V-Cache.  The 8-core and 16-thread Ryzen 7 5800X3D with built-in 96MB of 3D V-Cache officially launches on April 20th with a price tag of 449 USD. Today’s […]

cursive summit

there is no official source site nor is it shown as a pr post from info that amd sent out

#

so it's not an official announcement

officially launches =/= official announcement from the company

cursive summit

I don't think I've ever mentioned the word launch

#

There's just a difference in having 2 posts on the same product one being "One of our sources says" and "AMD officially says"

ashen spindle
#

but amd didnt say it anywhere

#

those are official slides that are leaked that might be announced later today, doesn't make it official till that happens though

i don't have an explanation for why the chipset fan does that

it pops the UAC wheneber the app needs attention

anything more that stadia does has no real benefit for end user

you'd just add extra latency or so for inputs if anything

halcyon moss

and there are hosted gaming services like xbox streaming playstation now, and basically a gaming pc in the cloud service which i forgot the name for

ashen spindle

what is it making fun of then

cursive summit

Absolutely nobody

Actually, bad purchases lul

ashen spindle

if there is no correlation whats the joke then

cursive summit

Correlation to what

Joke's the pronounciation

ashen spindle

I can't tell if you're actually believe what you say

cursive summit
#

Can't tell if you ever allow fun to be had

ashen spindle

absolutely, just not if the fun is made on behalf of the biggest stereotype of a minority???

cursive summit
#

Nobody made fun of that matter

#

That's just you coming up with things out of your own imagination

ashen spindle
#

ah so I guess the biggest stereotype of jews, that they are greedy, are the ones behind governments and money etc. is what I made up in my head and wrote it in wikipedia and all that today

cursive summit
#

That's your words, not mine

#

I just like poking fun at the pronounciation of the word euro

#

Never in a million years I said anything about that matter

ashen spindle
#

you do realize the joke only lands because there is correlation between the words?

#

you dont need to have a degree in literature to understand that if there was no connotation to the word, it wouldn't make sense and thus not be funny

crisp granite
#

...

cursive summit
#

There was literally no "correlation" joke anywhere

#

It's a pronounciation joke

ashen spindle
#

would be a bit different if those things were just in the past, but we still have "prominent" people actually thinking jews control the german government etc.

cursive summit
#

Now where did this come from

#

Let's not go third eye where no intent to do so was

#

Fine, the pronunciation wasn't funny, drop it then

#

Don't go full racist on where there was no such intent

ashen spindle
#

never said you were one or that it was intentional, intent doesn't really change if it is or isn't received that way

cursive summit
#

Some would say how it is received is perceived differently by everyone

And by a large margin you are the only one to see that word in a not light hearted sense

wheat plume

wait what, is this the actual area formula?

ashen spindle
#

probably

wheat plume
#

yep, it works... neat!

ashen spindle
#

and this is why ai code will make things so much worse

wheat plume
#

I understand how this works, I was about to do this slightly differently but mostly the same tihng

#

well, I was going to seperate the points into two parts, but using split() later is much neater

#

(x1 * y2) + ( x2 * y3 ) + ( x3 * y1) - ( y1 * x2) - ( y2 * x3 ) - ( y3 * x1) ) / 2

wheat plume
#

Are there other coding languages that can do this?
You can assign multiple variables to the output of a function if the function returns more than one value

ashen spindle
#

yes though that does not look like clean code at all

wheat plume
#

then how clean it?

ashen spindle
#

idk

#

I dont know what language that is

#

also I said it doesnt look clean to me, if there is no better way this might not be wrong, just looks like that to me

wheat plume
#

Python

#

userInput returns 3 values
the call assigns these to point1, point2, point3

Then it prints out the value returned by areaOfTriangle and passes in the points

ashen spindle
#

other way around but I get the point

#

never used python so idk

wheat plume
#

.... apparently you cant concatenate a string with a function call in a print() statement

ashen spindle
#

ok

wheat plume
#

got to seperate the lines damn it

crimson wigeon
#

ok

wheat plume
#

.-. still no

#

wtf

ashen spindle
#

you REALLY should get into the habit of reading and understanding the error messages a tool gives you

wheat plume
#

TypeError, I know

#

its trying to convert the area value to string

#

idk how to make it not try to do that

ashen spindle
#

no thats the exact opposite of what it says

wheat plume
#

ok now it works

ashen spindle

error messages will almost always be extremely accurate unless you go into c++ linker territory so read and understand them

Idc if they're the best hardware on the planet for the price, that their software and firmware is so bad is a no go.

#

My build policy for putting together machines for people is I'll do it conditional of there being no gigabyte motherboard or GPU.

#

I am not going through the hassle of updating their bullshit and having to get calls when it inevitably breaks or otherwise stops working.

astral haven
#

Yea while Asus overcharges you for the hardware, and the software is solidly iOS tier jank
At least the hardware doesn't have negative vdroop
Set 1.35v on a gigabyte board and it can give you 1.6v
Asus auto volts are alot but at least when you set them they set properly
And don't get me started on bios recovery
Enter the wrong settings and even if your board has dual bios your board is dead without pulling the battery

#

Combine gigabyte jank with agesa stability and you have yourself hours of troubleshooting fun

ashen spindle

yeah.... games ban for VM ;-;

ashen spindle
#

anti cheats usually do, not games directly

young pecan
#

If a game is banning you for a VM you're not doing shit correctly.

young pecan
#

A fully prepped VM should look in all ways like a normal OS.

#

Source: I do this shit all the time because Proxmox.

pale sigil
#

Usually you have to trick some games into thinking its not a vm

wheat plume
pale sigil
#

Oh

#

Nvm

ashen spindle
#

what non EAC/BE games do that?

pale sigil
#

You meant ban

#

Ignore me

#

I'm going bed

#

I'm being more retarded than usual

young pecan
#

It's a massive pain in the ass, but it works well enough that I've only seen one thing capable of detecting.

#

Adds a LOT of processing overhead.

pale sigil
#

Damn smart bulb isn't being smart rn

pale sigil
#

It's ass

young pecan
#

Eh, kinda.

#

You can actually reboot and have different GRUB profiles for IOMMU.

#

And since you'd run this on Proxmox if you're smart you can actually set a GPU to be acceptable by multiple VMs.

#

It's a bit of a pain in the ass to setup, but it works.

pale sigil
#

I ran bdo in a vm for fishing @young pecan lull

#

Saved me loads in power consumption

young pecan
#

Fucking what?

ashen spindle
#

so dont play at 1080p and your gpu puts in some work

pale sigil
#

Wot

young pecan
#

No way Elden Ring uses one core.

#

No waaaay.

pale sigil
#

Most games do?

young pecan
#

Since when? A lot of games I've seen as of late can use upward of 4.

ashen spindle
#

most games from 10 years ago maybe

wheat plume
young pecan
#

Hell, Mass Effect Andromeda uses fucking EIGHT cores.

pale sigil
ashen spindle
#

no it runs on steam deck because steam deck is same hardware as consoles

young pecan
#

If that pile of crap uses 8 cores then I'd be shocked to see anything modern using a single core.

ashen spindle
#

I know you're trying to trigger me bc I work with that engine but I genuinely dont care about that

#

from software sadly have a history of not doing great on optimisation of any kind

pale sigil
#

And yet everyone still has a huge boner

young pecan
#

So does From just live back in 2011?

ashen spindle
#

yes elden ring is amazing despite not being super optimised

#

it's like the same thing as pokemon and graphics

#

they are aged as fuck but the games are still loved

young pecan
#

Don't start me about Pokemon, dude.

ashen spindle
#

would be nice if it would get better but the results so far still are great

pale sigil
#

Stuttering honestly ruins the experience for me on any game

ashen spindle
#

I mean a caching bug isn't really related to it

#

thankfully it's not that bad aside from the starting plane (ironically)

astral haven
pale sigil
#

Eh I'm not getting it entirely for gaming

young pecan
#

I'm not getting a Deck until it's revised a few times.

#

Buying into new products is an idiot move 100% of the time.

ashen spindle
#

agreed, now if you excuse me i have a brand new oled screen to buy on release mm

pale sigil
#

I'm an idiot so fite me

#

No?

#

You mean first gen?

#

No, usually consoles etc get cheaper

#

Valve have already confirmed they've started on version 2

#

They won't revise the v1 probably

#

Not enough to say its an upgrade

#

You didn't say that though

ashen spindle
#

they also said they sold much more of the expensive model meaning it's likely they will make more of those options/make the base model better and thus more expensive

#

while probably not selling V1 anymore once that comes out

wheat plume
#

I have middle reserved

#

After Q3 .-.

#

Once Deck 2 is out, I can sell the current one to my cousin, he doesnt have a PC and runs games on his console and laptop thats so bloated by crapware cause its HP

ashen spindle
#

clean install and bloat is gone

young pecan
wheat plume
#

nope, not on HP, it has audio software that integrates with the drivers windows installs

wheat plume
#

not for me, I have a digital license for Windows

young pecan
#

I think the last time I had a digital windows license was 7 years ago.

wheat plume
#

Also, a funny thing happened my friend a month ago

ashen spindle
#

yes even on hp you can remove bloat

wheat plume
#

He always used pirated windows, for almost like 7 years at this point

He installed 11, clean install and it was already activated, he just suddenly got a license for it onto his account...

ashen spindle
#

that is also old news and what they did when 10 released

young pecan
#

Did the Win7 upgrade work that way?

#

I mean upgrading into Win7 btw.

#

Not into Win10.

wheat plume
#

I wonder will custom distros fro Deck be made eventually?

#

I know ChimeraOS is trying to bring the Deck features to living room gaming PCs

#

TBF, there is no point, SteamOS is pretty damn the perfect OS for it, doubt others could replicate the suspend and resume ability

#

how much of suspend / resume ability related to the hardware specifically?

can it be taken out of SteamOS and added to another distro for example?

young pecan
#

I would imagine not much is going to stop people from taking the functionality.

#

Valve isn't like Nintendo where they attempt to force features by hardware measures.

#

Think the Fuses in the DS series.

wheat plume
#

Fuses?

young pecan
#

So the old NDS line used to have Fuses on the PCB to prevent you from flashing back to an older OS.

#

When you tried it'd burn a Fuse and you had 5 per console.

#

Once all were burned the console bricked.

wheat plume
#

o.o

young pecan
#

This didn't stop people from finding ways around that and exploiting the console anyway, but Nintendo has a history of it.

#

Oh and btw the consoles that got bricked were fixable.

wheat plume
#

nintendo dont give a shit about preserving their history

young pecan
#

You could rip the NAND off the board and the related components and solder them onto a donor board with good fuses.

#

But Nintendo has never given fucks about the consumer.

#

Yeah btw, if you tried taking just the NAND off the board and soldering it onto a new board it'd fry the fuses since it had an ID mismatch with the NAND/RAM/etc.

empty wren
#

Seems worse than apple

young pecan
#

You did have to take off all of the major components and place them onto a donor board with at least 2 good fuses since the operation would likely kill one and you needed a minimum of 1 for the board to work.

#

And no, you can't just solder new fuses on since each fuse has an ID and if the NAND mismatches ID it'll kill all 5 fuses at once and brick again.

#

Why? Fuck yourself with the handle of a ladle, that's why.

young pecan
#

I mean worse in intent.

#

Apple is worse due to hardware availability with 3rd parties, but Nintendo is worse in intent.

empty wren
#

Well apple apologized for faceid not working recently

wheat plume
#

Samsung are getting into hardware limits too
Making the camera unit fail if you try to unlock the bootloader

empty wren
young pecan
#

Disagree.

#

Displays and batteries.

#

Do not fuck with power delivery ever.

empty wren
#

I thought batteries were easy to get

young pecan
#

They are, but scam batteries explode.

#

LOTS of those.

empty wren
#

I find that surprising

#

Bought two batteries for a phone one had a resistor another has a real sensor

#

Both work fine

young pecan
#

Some batteries swell and explode if they're poorly made.

#

Not worth the risk.

empty wren
#

I wonder if apple has exposed sensors

#

Could be a good way to tell fake from real

#

I do get your point though, guessing some people purchase very cheap batteries due to price

young pecan
#

This is not the kind of thing you want to be carrying around in your pocket.

empty wren
#

Yeah I have poked a dead battery before

#

But it should not really do that

#

If done well

young pecan
#

Yeee

#

Issue being scam batteries just aren't well put together.

#

Decent physical battery, no safeties.

empty wren
#

Actually speaking of

#

I think apple had a iPhone 6 battery program

#

Which had batteries for like $10 a piece or something

young pecan
#
  • $200 service fee.
wheat plume
#
  • $50 for custom text engraving
empty wren
#

Well thankfully ifixit exists in US

#

Not sure how much Batteries+Bulbs asks but might 3rd party option

empty wren

shocking news!

old marlin
#

problem is that we do not see how it behaves under motion

ashen spindle

but the amd video shows motion?

old marlin
#

yea but with limited bitrate

#

what confuses me is that they seem to show more detail and antialiasing with FSR

#

this is native 4k

#

this is FSR

#

top of that tower is only visible in the FSR 2.0 image

#

and it looks like they used a lot higher res textures

old marlin
#

yea uhhhh

#

the video seems basically unusable

#

due to the amount of blur the 4k version got hit with

#

due to lowered fps

ashen spindle

it's just a trailer before the GDC talk anyway

ashen spindle

shadow minnow

Hmm looks a bit grainy. Imo looks better here but worse for some other stuff, especially indie games

ashen spindle
#

what

shadow minnow
ashen spindle
#

why would it be worse for indie games

shadow minnow
#

Sometimes you want sharp sometimes smooth textures. And I mean as in graphics where you want stuff to look smooth and not so high res like

ashen spindle
#

you can have high res without high details

#

that's two different things

old marlin
#

I feel like games that have such big differences in art style would usually not be super hard to run anyways

sudden glacier
#

i want to try this in apex

ashen spindle

sudden glacier
#

i already use virtual resolution to get way better definition per pixel, but it takes a lot of fps

ashen spindle
#

parts like the top piece of a building not rendering normally is LoD feature or just lower priority objects

#

if that happens with playermodels that is usually a bug

sudden glacier
#

unlucky

#

at least i have the forgotten amd 'boost' shader

consistent 144fps during tracking/flicks is pretty nice
