that's a known youtube-dl issue iirc; if memory serves, running it with the cache flush flag is the fix until the issue is resolved. It's so futile trying to use a phone for mobile hifi.

Was a pretty neat app. Basically just a (very) smart song mixer app with a game strapped on, had lots of legit licensed titles available that all intermixed really well due to the smarts

Speaking of swappable components still sad Ara never became a thing

empty wren
serene oxide
empty wren
#

Yeah with many Motorola parents added to the mix

#

In fact it had their display software on the ad

serene oxide
# empty wren Hmm only thing I ever messed around with was beat making software

This game was much smarter and easier than beat making software. Meant for kids, you could literally drop a song onto one of four places and it would extract just the drums or voices or whatever, mix it in at the next logical beat, match the tempo, etc. Made it much less technique/craft and much more straight creative. It was simple and fun.

empty wren
#

Hmm

#

Sounds very interesting

serene oxide

Would've been awful if it had limited song selection, but the list of titles was huge

for a game like that, anyway

sadly basically defunct at this point

killed off production in 2018, I think? now half the cards are basically impossible to find, outside of the base few that come with the starter set -- and of course, it's the broad variety of cards (each card being a song, or a part of one) that made the game.

it flashes a certain amount of times to indicate what range the battery is in

pale sigil

wheat plume

pale sigil
#

I've always been told it's better to install from the source directly

wheat plume
#

from what source?

#

you mean the repo?

#

or the software website?

thick elk
#

Personally find arch much simpler to use than debian.
On arch I can usually just follow the wiki / package manpage, on debian you can hit cases where it's poorly documented on their side and still differs from the package defaults.

pale sigil
#

From the software yes

wheat plume
#

They no have an Arch package or flatpack download here

pale sigil
#

Oh and that too, not everything is made for arch

#

Mostly made for debian

#

Sorted

thick elk
#

as for commands, outside of switching from apt to pacman, most of the ones I use on arch work on debian as well.
Just some debian specific translations of older setups do not work the other way around.

wheat plume
#

you can install debs with pacman xd I see it do that a lot doing updates

#

Updates in the software center

pale sigil
#

So more fuckery is what you're saying? :p

thick elk
#

Most things are automated on AUR and source packages are made so the distro's can maintain them for them

wheat plume
#

yep

thick elk
#

Arch with aur generally has that covered.

wheat plume
#

most popular packages have a bin package on AUR so it doesnt even need to build

thick elk
#

Only some corporate unbutu minded things deliver .debs, which are a bad practice anyway.

wheat plume
pale sigil
#

Get plugins bad? XD

wheat plume
#

GStreamer has odd version names xd

crimson wigeon
#

GStreamer Bad Plug-ins is a set of plug-ins that aren't up to par compared to the rest. They might be close to being good quality, but they're missing something - be it a good code review, some documentation, a set of tests, a real live maintainer, or some actual wide use.

wheat plume
#

there is good, bad and ugly packages for it

pale sigil
#

As I said though my main concern is having to re learn all commands etc

#

Not concern

#

My main reason

wheat plume
#

Only the package manager

#

sudo pacman -S firefox

#

all commands

these are familiar...I hope xd

crimson wigeon

wheat plume

but I will need to use the Flatpak once I get my Deck

pale sigil

wheat plume
#

Nah, I wont bother
I use the official launcher until I get my deck

thick elk

I do think the layout of gnome apps is way to de specific, really good reason for larger software to generally not target gtk.

wheat plume
#

QT is also cross platform so it works on Windows and MacOS too

thick elk
#

Older ones sure but not much new stuff

#

GTK is really just gnome-island with kde trying it's best to make it look okay

wheat plume

GTK looks real nice in Plasma desktop

I really hate the look of modern gnome apps myself.
Personally wish menu-bars would become the standard again.

#

less useless icons, more plain text descriptions

#

Also higher information density

#

ofc you prefer that, you use a window manager right?

#

:P I agree, headervbars take a lot of space in the app window

I usually disable window decorations, I really don't need them

#

I know the keys I need to use to maximize, close, drag my stuff

#

Usually being not entirely right, rather I am slowly starting to do so.

#

Gnome apps completely clash with that.

#

maybe I should switch to a tiling window manager someday

#

Yeah, in anything such as i3 or openbox, i wouldnt use gnome apps

I just want the gnome image viewer to have built in crop tools....

#

cause I got to use GIMP for that instead

#

.-.

#

yeah, they are part of the headerbar

#

headerbar

#

sidebar

#

Headerbars are a GTK / gnome concept but MacOS uses them also

#

The apps in QT etc use a titlebar and a menubar

#

actually, ElementaryOS app also use a headerbar...but their version is slightly different to gnome

#

GTK4 apps like this can merge the headerbar into the content view if the dev wants that
