yes, the next step in GPUs is likely a higher power one. But that's what I'm saying -- over the long trend, the ups and the downs balance out. This time, the perf/watt improvements (which they are advertising) are outweighed by the sheer increase in die size. Next time, perhaps not, and the needle goes the other way.
Been the trend for an awful long time, over a lot of "but this time it's different"s. So I guess I'm just saying I'm not holding my breath. 🙂
I'm expecting to be happy with a 1000W PSU for a good long time.

So while the next power consumption bump is up, I'm guessing the one after is, if not down, at very least neutral.

yes rdna3 will take less power than rtx40 though both will be an increase compared to now
but that's just down to first gen product not having years of trials on how to best cool it so they are getting limited by what they can achieve on first run of it

The fact that they got stackable chiplets for vcache working is a huge deal.
All the earliest consumer GPUs were multi-chip.
Hell, it used to be that you couldn't even do 2D and 3D on the same chip. 🙂
