and that's not enough to give you the ban hammer...

yet

pale sigil

id have to record the server bar to show my servers

#

nvm

#

i left a lot

#

a plugin that allows plugins repo in client

young pecan
#

Pluginrepo is great. :D

#

Allows for plugin updates and alerts in client as well.

pale sigil
#

did not know it was a thing

#

ive used the same plugins for years

Is youtube-dl slow AF for anyone else?

#

downloads less than 100kb/s for me :/

reef patrol
#

I wouldn't know. I... don't download YT videos.

wheat plume
#

I want to download this one incase it gets taken offline

wheat plume
#

O.o

#

Maybe Google limit bandwidth if its not coming from the youtube website

#

youtube-dl was real slow for quite a while now

empty wren
#

I just do not understand such an obsession, telemetry can be useful

ashen spindle
#

Until someone tracks you by virtue of you being so unique in your fingerprints you still leave that it makes you stick out even more 🙂

empty wren
#

XD

#

They will always come up with some new tracking info method

#

A game of Everybody runs around with their secrets and their schemes, trying to outwit one another

#

I mean not really

ashen spindle
#

I mean I wish laws and such would be better around it and I get wanting to have less data left behind

#

but by trying to be more private you could easily stick out more

empty wren
#

Facebook even tracks people without a Facebook account

wheat plume
#

Currently, the cheapest way for me to get a Pixel 6 is to switch to a new phone company.... and then that would also mean that the phone is carrier locked and I do not want that...

#

Yeah, but thats EXPENSIVE AF

empty wren
#

Maybe wait for 6A

#

Unless you really want that bleeding edge you will save a lot more

wheat plume
#

Take whatever the price of the 6A is, then add on 23%

empty wren
#

:S

wheat plume
#

Thats why the 6 is too expensive for me to buy

#

Unless I swap carrier and get this one

ashen spindle
#

why 23% more?

empty wren
#

@wheat plume

ashen spindle
#

wait isn't that just VAT

wheat plume
#

Import fees to bring it into the EU

#

pay it to the delivery driver or the local post office

ashen spindle
#

how much does it cost for you, 650€?

wheat plume
#

Ye

#
  • charger brick
ashen spindle
#

so it's just the normal price

wheat plume
#

650 + 30 for brick = 680

  • 23% = 836
ashen spindle
#

.. then dont say yes if I ask if it costs 650 for you???

#

if it's not 650

wheat plume
#

Unless, Google has a warehouse it ships from somewhere in the EU

#

THEN it would be 650

ashen spindle
#

bruh

wheat plume
#

but they dont ;-;

crimson wigeon
#

Google ships from NL I'm pretty sure

wheat plume
#

WUT?

empty wren
#

Just ask wooting to hold on to it and then travel there lul

wheat plume
#

Do they actually have an EU warehouse?!

ashen spindle
#

why dont you just look at the google store instead of assuming what it does or doesnt do

crimson wigeon
#

bruh

wheat plume
#

Their EU HQ is in Dublin, but I doubt they also have a warehouse there

wheat plume
#

But that could mean it ship FROM the USA

#

And if that's the case, then thats my problem, cause of the 23% tax

#

The Warehouse sits on the waterfront to the rear of South Bank House and comprises a 19th century, three-storey warehouse building with more than 1,811sq m (19,500sq ft) that was extensively refurbished to provide modern office space.

Both assets are leased to Mason Hayes and Curran, a Dublin law firm with offices in London, New York and San Francisco.

The two properties were acquired by Kennedy Wilson in July 2013 and sit adjacent to Boland’s Quay, a mixed-use development due for completion in the first quarter of 2020. It was also acquired by Google for about €300 million in May 2018.

#

Ireland.... ?

#

That the HQ though?

#

wait wait

reef patrol
#

My god... just contact them and ASK.

wheat plume
#

I can try

ashen spindle
#

like, you know euro prices are shown with VAT included already?

wheat plume
#

not import fees

#

cause that depends on the country

ashen spindle
#

you are aware VAT also depends on the country?

wheat plume
#

Yes, but Google dont get this 23%, the government do

#

Thats why you need to pay it to the post office

ashen spindle
#

wait who do you think gets the VAT

wheat plume
#

no its not... I have to pay it on amazon orders also

ashen spindle
wheat plume
#

.com

ashen spindle
#

and those prices are shown in $ right

wheat plume
#

no

#

well, on .com yes

ashen spindle
#

.....

#

bruh I give up

crimson wigeon
#

pepeg

ashen spindle
#

before I go insane

#

we literally had this like 2 weeks ago or something like that

#

my brain cant handle this

wheat plume
#

ok...then why did I need to pay 80 euro on my last order from the UK?

crimson wigeon
#

Brexit, innit

wheat plume
#

to the deliver driver

ashen spindle
#

ah yes, the last order where I totally know what it is, what site, what the sites said etc. etc.

wheat plume
#

it was a UK site for anime figurines

#

and I got email from post office to pay thr 23% on delivery

ashen spindle
#

I genuinely dont understand why you just simply google "ireland import fees" or a similar line and read half a paragraph and then see how it works

wheat plume
#

i have, thats why I know its 23%

ashen spindle
#

yes ireland has 23% VAT

#

you dont pay VAT on VAT

#

now im gonna go scream in the void or something

wheat plume
#

So...... do I wait for the 6A? :')

ashen spindle
#

look at what you want and read what you actually need to pay for it instead of guessing

wheat plume
#

I didnt find out if they have an EU warehouse but apparently that is the final amount I pay on the order

ashen spindle
#

unless it's like some company smaller than wooting you dont need to figure out if they have a eu warehouse...

#

that's why laws exist on how to show what price

wheat plume
#

I recently learned that Valve have a warehouse in NL to ship hardware within the EU

#

(Cause I was wondering if id get fucked by import tax for that one too.....)

ashen spindle
#

yes and there you also did not need to find that out because the checkout/sales pages show you what you need to know

#

the sentence below that is more important

#

Applicable taxes will be presented at checkout or on the Device description page.

#

like did you seriously think if you buy something they expect you to figure out where the warehouse is and otherwise you wont know what you end up paying????

#

bruh

wheat plume
#

Yeah, so it could happen

ashen spindle
#

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

wheat plume

buffer overflow

ashen spindle

@reef patrol maybe you have an easy link that makes it understandable for her

#

bc I give up

#

im legit getting mad

wheat plume
#

Ah, ok

ashen spindle
wheat plume
#

Yeah.... im dumb

#

thats an understatement

ashen spindle
#

almost like you could just show what it is depending on where the ip comes from like any site does it for the european markets

#

so hard to do /s

#

then make it not legally binding till at checkout when you put your stuff in

Does anyone have a link to a typing demonstration using Flaretech Clicky55 switches?

#

How do they sound compared to MX-style clickjackets?

#

Also can those be turned to linear switches by removing the clickleaf?

crisp granite
empty wren
crisp granite
#

I wouldn't do it

hushed maple
#

I'm guessing the linear variant has no wobble?
Maybe the linear version might be better for me 🤔

crisp granite
#

nope

#

they got plenty

#

the issue is that the click jackets are actually a huge part of the stem for the clicky version

#

so removing them is a major no no

#

the linear stems for flaretechs are already pretty damn fragile as is

#

that's a clicky flaretech

#

orange bit is the click jacket

#

remove it and you have a super thin stem with no side rails to ride in the housing and pretty thin extensions on an already pretty fragile switch stem (poor choice of materials imo)

Asus have an interesting way to get a dedicated numpad on their laptops

you hold down the top corner of the touchpad and then you can use the touchpad like a number pad

Probably not great to type on though

its got the numpad printed on the touchpad to tell you where each number is

night beacon
#

Anyone know whats a really fast mouse for gaming

empty wren
#

Probably razer 8k

night beacon
#

Thats what i was looking at by i dont know what the debounce time is

empty wren
#

Denounce means time to because delay a signal

#

To get a clean one

#

Razer 8k has optical switches meaning no microvibrations make a difference

#

That reminds me g502

night beacon
#

The only problem is that the Razer 8k is kind of small for me but thats the case with most mouses so ill probably buy it thanks

empty wren
#

Well honestly

night beacon
#

Its also 50% off on amazon

empty wren
#

Use whatever you want

#

If you are good with one shape who cares if it is optical or not

#

The issue is when there is double clicking which hinders the ability to perform well

#

Unless you are a professional player probably will not matter if it is the fastest mouse

#

Even then you reach diminishing returns

night beacon
#

I'm a competitive player i got some earnings in costume tournaments and wagers

empty wren
#

Cough cough logitech

night beacon
#

Ya my friend has the razer 8k and his discord always bugs out cause of the double clicking

#

and just how fast and responsive it is

empty wren
#

It cannot double click

#

Or should not

#

Ever I should say

#

Being responsive does not mean it would double click

night beacon
#

Well he does use Double click like the app but i was going to use it too for Minecraft

#

do Get a decent amount of cps

empty wren
#

If you want butterfly click with it

#

Good luck that is impossible

night beacon
#

Drag

#

it works with tape

#

I do also butterfly thats why i asked about the double click

empty wren
#

Oh

night beacon
#

Will drag clicking work

empty wren
#

Most likely not

#

Because that abuse of mouse switches

#

Is just causing a ton of vibrations

#

If you do not believe me

night beacon
#

no i believe u

empty wren
#

Oh okay then

#

The optical switches were partially designed to combat double clicking behavior

night beacon
#

My T16 causes alot oi vibrations too for some reason

#

Its a very old mouse thats why i was looking for another mouse

empty wren
#

If you want to abuse the mouse switches

#

Asus has hotswappable microswitch mouse

#

That way if they end up dying you easily remove em, only issue might be the shape

night beacon

Ill use the Razer 8k for Fortnite and other games while using My T16 for Minecraft

Well alright then

#

Playing FF14. This is cool for my loop.

#

During summer that coolant is a good ten-fifteen degrees higher.

wheat plume
#

That's cool af

#

I really need to invest in proper cooling

young pecan
#

It's pretty cheap as well if you DIY it.

wheat plume
#

Immersion?!

young pecan
#

Use Bitcool or something and it'd cost maybe 500 USD to liquid cool the entire PC.

young pecan
#

Use a dielectric fluid.

#

Just dip the entire PC. LUL

wheat plume
#

O.o

#

That's scary

young pecan
#

Nah.

#

Really harmless.

wheat plume
#

How do you attach new drives or replace the GPU then?
Got to take it out and wait for it to dry?

young pecan
#

Here's a pic of an IC boiling away a 2 phase liquid.

young pecan
#

Like literally speaking immersion cooling does not require fans in some cases.

young pecan
#

Yeee

#

For 2 phase systems you wanna grab the vapor and condense it down into liquid again then pump it back through.

#

The benefit being you don't bother with coolers since the component just boils away the liquid.

#

You'd be at a very stable near ambient temp all the time.

wheat plume
#

But that means it gets hot enough to boil

Oh wait

What's the boiling point of this liquid?

wheat plume
#

Ahhh

young pecan
#

Like 40 degrees.

wheat plume
#

Oop

young pecan
#

60 or so.

#

Basically you want the boiling point as low as you can get so only the PC components boil it off. :p

wheat plume
#

I can imagine trying to move your PC
"Got to wait about an hour for my PC to dry!"

young pecan
#

Nah.

#

Just drain out the fluid and move the box.

wheat plume
#

Ahh

young pecan
#

This for example.

#

It's overpriced as all fuck, you could do it for WAY cheaper.

wheat plume
#

Wait wait....

young pecan
#

But that's just a kit you build in as normal then pour your liquid.

wheat plume
#

That's just the cooling.....

young pecan
#

Yep.

#

But overpriced.

#

I have an immersion prototype for my ASICs and it's like 3 grand to cool 12 ASICs.

#

For a single PC you could accomplish the feat for about 500 USD if you DIY.

wheat plume
young pecan
#

Pump, case, heat exchanger, etc.

wheat plume
#

500 just for the liquid

young pecan
#

Nah.

#

Depends on the liquid you wanna be using.

wheat plume
#

Hmm ok

young pecan
#

Bitcool is like 140 for 20 gallons.

#

Novec is about 20 grand for that much. LUL

#

Also the best part of this kind of cooling is that it's dead silent.

#

Nothing makes noise, not even coil whine.

#

The only thing making any sound is the fan attached to the external radiator and that can be very quiet.

#

30db.

wheat plume
#

Ooo

wheat oar
#

🤔

young pecan
#

I've been really heavy into immersion recently. LUL

wheat oar
#

This is what I want

young pecan
#

...

#

Why?

wheat oar
#

Looks cool I guess

wheat plume
#

Hmm

young pecan
#

Agreed.

#

But I think you could do better with immersion.

#

Literally just immersion cool it and have it in a closed 2 phase system.

#

Boiling liquid on the CPU and GPU, it'd sound lovely. :D

wheat plume
#

How you hook up Ethernet?

#

Just plug it in and dip?

young pecan
#

Basically.

wheat plume
#

Oop

young pecan
#

Dielectric fluid doesn't conduct electricity at all.

#

There's no real danger of shorting.

wheat plume
#

So... In terms of the components
It's not there?

young pecan
#

?

wheat plume
#

What if it gets into the cable?

#

Like one came loose or whatever

young pecan
#

shrugs Dip the cable into isopropyl 100% and wash it out.

#

Once you leave it to dry it'll be fine to use elsewhere.

wheat plume
#

O

young pecan
#

Such good cooling as well.

#

A mate of mine runs immersion cooled datacenters and we're talking thousands of GPUs.

#

From his reports they all run within a few degrees and float near 20c all the time.

wheat plume
#

Wwwow

young pecan
#

Ikr.

#

Rooms run at 8c, cards are overclocked and run stable at 20c.

#

Just for massive scale compute applications.

#

And all of the cooling happens in an external building.

wheat plume
#

Wat

young pecan
#

Yeh.

#

It's a liquid to liquid heat exchanger.

halcyon moss
#

latent heat

wheat plume
#

So all the pipes are routed to another building

#

Interesting

young pecan
#

Kinda.

wheat plume
#

That reminds me of what AntVenom does on his computer but a much much larger scale

young pecan
#

So the coolant goes into liquid to liquid heat exchangers and transfers the heat to water, the water runs in a basic radiator loop.

#

All entirely enclosed.

wheat plume
#

His computer stays on the floor
He has a water cooling loop in his computer and the radiator and pump are in the basement
So the pipes go through the floor

young pecan
#

Yeah kinda.

wheat plume
#

So that way he doesn't hear any noise

young pecan
#

The difference being that the rigs are submerged and the pipes lead into a different building into a liquid to liquid heat exchanger.

wheat plume
#

That's freaking wild

young pecan
#

Here's a video of a custom tub for 36 ASICs.

Rather than making 3 thousands new distros each week

young pecan
#

wheat plume
#

Not even windows has that

young pecan
#

Install it and get some basic presets for UX, presets for commonly used apps, and you're done.

wheat plume
#

And people use it fine

young pecan

I'd use Linux right fucking now if I had that.

#

Fuck Windows.

wheat plume
#

Once you've set Linux up the way you want
Then you don't need to do anything anymore

#

Especially if you use window managers and cli apps
You can just clone your GitHub repo , run the script and everything is how you want it to be

young pecan
#

Sure but that's utter cancer.

wheat plume

Yep xd

young pecan

I don't use an OS to use cancer. LUL

#

If I wanted that I'd use Proxmox on my home PC.

wheat plume

Tbh

And the clusterfuck of Distros doesn't make it better.

wheat plume
#

Yeah ... Too much

young pecan
#

Mint/Ubuntu/Pop/Arch/Debian/Redhat/Kali/Proxmox(which is secretly Debian)...

#

I've used all of those before and they're equally shit.

wheat plume
#

I really like the arch based distros though
Majority of those actually do bring something unique to the table

#

And the immutable spin of Fedora is really freaking neat

young pecan
#

Fantastic powerful softwire, but god fucking damnit it's such a shitty time actually using them.

wheat plume
#

That's why I ignore everything that isn't Arch, Arco and PopOs

young pecan
#

No OS should have the same pickup time that Runescape 3 does. OMEGALUL

wheat plume
#

I also look into fedora to see what's up with that but I've never used it

young pecan
#

Ngl I do really want a windows/linux hybrid.

wheat plume
#

The same way I look into MacOS to see what's new with that but will never buy an Apple product unless they become decently priced

young pecan
wheat plume
#

How'd that work?

#

You'd have one DE
But what about package management? How would that work?

young pecan
#

shrugs I'd just run a super basic hypervisor that houses Windows and a Linux distro of choice.

wheat plume
#

Would you need to go hunt down exe files online?

young pecan
#

Literally just have 'slots' for different OSes in a way that isn't utterly cancerous.

#

Looking at you, Proxmox.

#

The tech is there, just nobody made a UX for it yet.

wheat plume
#

I've been thinking of getting an SSD hotswap bay
Have windows on one SSD, linux on the other and only have the one I wanna use plugged into the computer

young pecan
#

Personally I'd love it if somebody made maybe Proxmox but it's Ubuntu instead of Debian and has a decent UX and wiki.

#

Debian 10 causes Proxmox more issues than it solves.

reef patrol
#

Who hotswaps these days, except to change out longterm storage drives 😄

wheat plume
#

Cause fuck dual booting .-.

young pecan
#

Dual booting is easy?

wheat plume
#

Dual booting is only a problem if it involves windows because if windows does a version upgrade, then byebye bootloader

young pecan
#

True.

wheat plume
#

I can't update to 21H1 without fear of getting my dual boot destroyed

young pecan
#

Have Grub manage it?

wheat plume
#

Yeah
Grub is handling it
But windows will destroy that

young pecan
#

Huh.

wheat plume
#

It tends to override the boot partition with it's own bootloader

young pecan
#

Weird.

wheat plume
#

You know.
Microsoft's insistent to be the only OS on the system and all that

#

My friend has managed to reinstall windows entirely without it fucking up grub

#

Idk how

#

He also has two drives dual boot

crimson wigeon
#

Lol still fearing that

wheat plume
#

I asked him how's he doing that without windows overriding anything

#

He just said it just happened that way

#

I call BS

#

The last time it fucked up
I just saw windows boot manager in my bios
With no sign of my Linux boot option anywhere to be seen

ashen spindle
#

my laptop dual boot runs without issues too

#

updated yesterday and nothing broke

wheat plume
#

Hmm

#

My other friends had the same issue as me

#

They all did except that one guy

#

If it was easy for me to remove the Linux drive while windows updates
Then maybe

#

But it's an m.2 drive
And grub is on there so it would need to be in the system to boot into windows and then removed while the system is on

fair gull
#

inb4 lana just shotgun deleted all partitions during the install

wheat plume
#

So yeah
No Linux partitions on that drive

crimson wigeon
#

inb4 that means you nuked your ESP

wheat plume
#

Hmm....

crimson wigeon
#

EFI System Partition

wheat plume
#

How do I install windows without nuking that?

crimson wigeon
#

Just don't nuke it

wheat plume
#

In the windows installer
It only lets you install if you remove all partitions and make a new empty one

crimson wigeon
#

I don't think that's true but ok

fair gull
#

thats not true

#

it only asks for a partition big enough

#

prepartitioned or not

wheat plume
#

I've never been able to continue without removing all partitions

#

It just tells me windows can't be installed on any one I selected

#

Even the one it's currently installed on

fair gull
#

thonk

#

anyway i bet my 2 balls u made a mistake in the installer

#

cause windows itself doesnt remove partitions

wheat plume
#

Hmm
Worth updating to 11?

fair gull
#

no

wheat plume
#

I should still update to 21H2 though

#

Cause security shit

#

I think I'm on 20H1

fair gull
#

so

#

u just installed windows

#

with an ancient setup drive

#

thats like installing debian jessie in 2021 when u want debian bullseye

wheat plume
#

It was the newest version when I got this computer

#

And I tried upgrading from within system settings and it broke my dual boot

#

So I reinstalled windows and Linux

fair gull
#

since windows doesnt even touch efi boot partitions when uprading idk how that would work

#

also why not just fix the efi boot partition

#

no magic in setting up the bootloader on it

#

and pointing it to the right drives

wheat plume
#

How?
It completely removed my Linux drive from showing up on bios
Meaning I didn't have access to grub and the system only booted to windows

fair gull
#

so u use a linux live cd/usb

#

and check the linux drive

wheat plume
#

Hmm

fair gull
#

if it doesnt show up in bios either the drive is dead or the efi partition is somehow wrong/broken

wheat plume
#

Yes
Latter

#

And it does show up on windows device manager

#

And if I live boot

fair gull
#

so just fix it

#

no magic really

wheat plume
#

Idk why grub says windows boot manager is on an nvme drive

#

It's on my 2.5 SSD

fair gull
#

prob cause the efi partition is on the nvme now

#

the boot partition isnt the C partition

wheat plume
#

Idk why it would
Unless windows invades other drives without you telling it to in the installer

fair gull
#

it uses efi partitions if u have one

#

like any efi based os does

#

including ur precious linux

wheat plume
#

It seems to only have 1 partition

#

idk what the ext4 one is....

#

maybe from the time I tried to automount my steam library onto this drive

fair gull
#

i mean

#

the label clearly says steamgames

wheat plume
#

my m.2 linux drive

fair gull
#

literally labeled as ESP flagged

#

so obviously any uefi capable os just plants their bootlaoder there

wheat plume
#

then how I setup dual boot so that windows is only one the drive I want it to?

#

or windows doent install a bootloader and let grub handle it

crimson wigeon
#

How will you boot Windows without its loader?

wheat plume
#

then how I tell it not to use this drive?

fair gull
#

u install it onto another part or use the windows stick and open a terminal and then use bcdboot to attach it to the end of the efi boot config

#

or u just read on how to setup grub with win

#

if u use the windows stick and the partition with the windows folder is for example h:

#

ud run bcdboot h:\\windows /s s: /f uefi /l en-us /d /addlast

#

this assume the efi part is mounted to s:

wheat plume
#

it seems my storage drive has a reserved part too???

fair gull
#

thats windows 16mb part for idk what

wheat plume
#

hmmmm

#

My games drive doesnt have one, which is good but strange

#

it has 1mb of unallocated space though...wtf

fair gull
#

thats normal

#

most os partition managers leave a tiny bit at the end

wheat plume
#

ahh ok

#

so, both windows and linux bootloaders are both on this part?

crimson wigeon
#

Yes that's how UEFI works

fair gull
#

literally made so u dont have 200boot partitions

#

but 1

wheat plume
#

Unless I use a distro that lets you decide where GRUB goes, then maybe it could work

fair gull
#

no?

#

cause grub would make an esp part

#

uefi is made to have at best 1 boot part for all the OSs on a system

wheat plume
#

Must find out how to reinstall an OS without affecting anything then

young pecan
#

jUst WrItE a NeW BooTLoADeR aND BiOs DeSiGN.

wheat plume
#

:')

#

restoring grub is not what I need, I need to make it show up in BIOS again

fair gull
#

that is restoring grub

#

if u install grub it also overrides the mbr

#

literally like windows

crimson wigeon
#

But also that's only relevant if you're doing legacy MBR shit which you aren't

fair gull
#

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

#

i never had issues with my win/linix setup

#

granted

#

i use wsl and it works just as good

fickle ore
#

Wait

#

empty wren
fair gull

i mean just use wsl?

#

it does the exact same

cause its literally just linux in a hyperv thin vm

#

except x11 can redirect to normal windows

chrome estuary
wheat plume
#

Valve mention simultaneous KB&M and gamepad input

fair gull
#

not all games support full steam input tho

#

i think it will become more and more when steam deck is out

it has circular touchpads instead of square..... interesting

#

whyd they change to square?

empty wren

More space duh

shadow minnow
wheat plume

But there are good ones out there now

ooohh

ashen spindle
old marlin
#

That is like people saying "DACs are bad for delay"

#

When you mobo has a dac onboard to even generate sound at all

shadow minnow
empty wren
#

Together

ashen spindle
#

it just means 1gb is reserved minimum

empty wren
#

in tandem

shadow minnow
#

Oh, well, way they said it is strange imo

ashen spindle
#

no it's normal lana is just posting it without further info xD

empty wren
#

Also memory speeds

shadow minnow
#

Yeah honestly for a second was not even sure what is it about but noticed now dogekek

ashen spindle
#

just like nobody uses memory bandwidth like that so the 88GB/s dont really mean something lmao

shadow minnow
#

Well for VRAM it may matter a bit

empty wren
#

Valve could make a demo ¯_(ツ)_/¯

ashen spindle
#

well yeah it matters for vram, but do do you from top of your head know what the bandwith of a 3080 for example is? xD

wheat plume
#

a wut

empty wren
wheat plume
#

👀

shadow minnow
ashen spindle
#

it's like >700

shadow minnow
#

Just know it’s in higher hundreds

empty wren
#

Ah

#

760

shadow minnow
#

Wouldn’t know usually but know M1 max has 400 and 3080 almost double

ashen spindle
#

but just shows my point it's not part of the usual points of data so just pointing out 88gbs doesnt show anything xD

old marlin
#

Btw

#

If it tries to load a texture or something into vram

#

Does it load it into reg ram

#

To then load it from ram to ram

#

For it to be in the vram

ashen spindle
#

it's the same as consoles or an APU

#

the ram is the vram

old marlin
#

Ye ik

#

But does it do direct storage

#

Or just attach the loaded section to vram

#

Or does it have to load the texture to reg ram

ashen spindle
#

uhh good question

old marlin
#

And then load it to the separated vram section from there

shadow minnow
#

Yeah, hopefully direct storage. I think M1 is direct storage but no idea about steam deck

ashen spindle
#

yes the M1 definitely has MICROSOFT direct storage

shadow minnow
#

I mean direct storage as in way ram and vram is addressed

#

Just don’t know the exact name or how to call it so said direct storage

fair gull
ashen spindle
#

see the part that annoys me is that you just randomly guess about things when it comes to apple and assume m1s have it xD

nimble canopy
#

i would guess it firsts loads it in to ram than copys it over to ram again
becous as far as i know the direct storage is prety new
and if you dint want to the copy you would have to check if it is unified ram then not do the extra copy

shadow minnow
#

No I think I have heard in apple presentation sth along the lines of M1 behaving that way, that’s why I called it direct storage

ashen spindle
#

so you're guessing

shadow minnow
#

I am extremely tired basically

fair gull
#

so guessing

#

yo but for real my 3ds has direct storage

#

i think

shadow minnow
#

I literally said I think M1 has direct storage, not that it has it

fair gull
#

maybe

shadow minnow
#

And that’s because I think I have heard it. For real and I think is a small difference

nimble canopy
#

and from my very limitid experience vulkan there are at least 2 types of buffers 1 that can be bound to cpu mem and one that cant
the one that cant has faster access but the only way of geting in data is by copying it from a other buffer in vram
so what coud happen is
disk -> mem -> mem -> mam

fair gull
#

u sure they didnt make tiny screws that didnt exist before or smth

ashen spindle
#

hm I cant find anything on it but my guess would be that it pulls it from ram onto another part that is saved as vram part at the time so yes, moves it around inside the ram

fair gull
#

until it goes mam

#

then u know it wants a fedora

#

as long as it only speaks of the manager

#

its fine

ashen spindle
#

hmm ok based on the CUDA website unified memory seems to be able to be addressed by both gpu and cpu without moving things around it seems

#

so it does not need to get moved if I understand this correctly

shadow minnow
#

Sounds good

ashen spindle
#

for performance it wont matter anyway as it would just be a simple memcopy anyway

#

bc while it does sound like an advantage at first, do keep in mind regular RAM is much slower than vram

#

and ram used as such wont reach the same bandwidth

old marlin
ashen spindle
#

lmao no it doesnt mean you can access it without restrictions

old marlin
#

Ye obv

#

But it makes the target larger

ashen spindle
#

ehh not really?

#

I guess you could say something that only works on gpu usually can now affect cpu ram maybe

#

but that goes both ways so it's a wash

wheat plume
#

y u gotta be so mad? it is game console

wheat plume
#

My RGB strip stopped working booted to Linux for some reason

#

It was working fine for the first 2 days

spiral belfry
#

Anyone here very familiar with (commandline) WINE? 😂

ashen spindle
#

doubt you'll find someone here, what are you looking for?

#

sounds quite exotic

spiral belfry
#

I need to find a way to change the ip it detects from 127.0.0.1 to a set one 😂

#

it is quite exotic XD

ashen spindle
#

have you tried

#

sudo apt-get install WINDOWS-VM?

spiral belfry
#

Not sure that would even work on what I am doing tbh

#

I was hoping there is some stupid startup flag I can give wine to listen on a local ip, instead of the 127.0.0.1 crap

ashen spindle
#

hmm yeah I could only randomly guess and that wouldn't help, gl

fair gull
#

iirc thats a wine limitation

spiral belfry
#

ffs, this is why linux is failing to take hold of gaming 😛

fair gull
#

i think

#

some people had success in sudo-ing wine

#

so it has access to all sockets

#

and that

spiral belfry
#

I am going to try overwrite the LO interface and see what happens 😂

fair gull
#

the only 2 things i can think of rn

#

basically

#

either sudo

#

or give the user the perms for raw sockets

#

so it can icmp ping

#

so ya no dont overwrite the lo interface

#

just fix perms

spiral belfry
fair gull
#

how

#

either you use sudo

#

to run as root

#

or u open the faq and configure it as it states

#

so ur user has permissions to use raw sockets to send/receive ip packets

spiral belfry
#

tried the sudo method, still uses 127.0.0.1

fair gull
#

did u check ipconfig

spiral belfry
#

Yeps

fair gull
#

it fetches an ip?

#

or only lo

spiral belfry
#

only lo

fair gull
#

default wine install

#

or some special sauce

spiral belfry
#

default wine

#

in docker, but still just wine

fair gull
#

well gl then

spiral belfry
#

😂 oh boy

fair gull
#

ure already fucking with 2 NATs then

#

if docker is in the mix

spiral belfry
#

Oh, there is much more than that, if you count them all

#

😂 but only one is at fault atm

fair gull
#

just use kvm at that point

spiral belfry
#

I would if I could

fair gull
spiral belfry
#

So many limits to my setup here, so it will be a challenge

fair gull
#

so u can use docker

#

but not kvm

#

and for some reason the app only exists on windows

#

and is wine compatible

spiral belfry
#

Well, its not exactly wine compatible, a lot of duct tape is being used

#

and yes, lazy devs do not always code server stuff for linux 😂

fair gull
#

even wsl wine gets an ip properly

#

im actually unsure if ur wine install is complete/undamaged

k u ran wine as sudo or normal user

under docker, you get root permissions by default, so sudo is not there

weird cause

i only get ping failure as non root

Have you thought that containers are meant to only have as much privilege as needed, so you might have to figure out how to allow the container to do this stuff

unless

spiral belfry
fair gull

what wine version are u on anyway

fair gull

pray wine can ping

spiral belfry

wanna go for a guess? 😂

still a no?

ngl idk whats wrong then

spiral belfry

yeah, I dont blame you

fair gull

i assume wine-preloader is in there

sudo setcap cap_net_raw+epi "$(readlink -f "/usr/bin/wine-preloader")"

#

that would be the ultra safe way

should it be a link of some sort

spiral belfry

I am going to log into the container and see whats going on in the files, and have some fun

i removed my wine4 and installed 6 now to make sure

and ya preloader is all thats needed

its def the cap_net_raw perms

I've been watching videos on the keyboard. It got me thinking. You know the steam deck? Have you ever seen steam input? There's a video talking about how games can become very rebind-able by thinking in actions instead of controls. Because the steam controller didn't take off and cause aim assist hasn't been removed... (for the pvp scene) Plenty of games don't support simultaneous analogue and digital input. Which means if people optimize games for the steam deck, then there probably will be more support for that.
so wooting 2 he, swiftpoint z, and steam deck are going to be the "dream team".
