My collection is Roccat Suora and Wooting Two! XD

pale sigil
#

I used to main my wooting one till last year, I use my 60% pink keeb, I tried to main lekker but its just to big

vagrant elk
#

I may actually do that keyboard build and give it to my friend for his birthday or Christmas.

pale sigil
#

So I just use lekker for Gaming now

vagrant elk
#

I don't know if I have a need for that board anymore with the 60 HE being literally around the corner.

pale sigil
#

I csnt wait for the 60he

vagrant elk
pale sigil
#

It will replace my current keeb

vagrant elk
#

Sometimes small collections are the best because you appreciate everything more.

pale sigil
#

I've been waiting for literal years for the 60HE being tormented by slow development xD

#

Glad it it ended up being hall effect and not flaretech

#

Though I sitll love flaretech

#

Especially blues

vagrant elk
#

My current Wooting One is blues and I'd trade them for linears in an instant.

halcyon moss
#

i dont like my cherry red keyboard.. i cant type on it without making many mistakes.. its not a typing keyboard

latent mural
#

what do you type on better

halcyon moss
#

best for me now is the keychron k3. i really liek the lowprofileness

wheat plume
#

Yeah, I really want a low profile

#

They pretty

#

Is there a way to use fn lock on a keychron board?

halcyon moss
#

fn lock?

wheat plume
#

so the second layer of F keys become the first layer

#

so I can use volume keys without needing to hold fn

halcyon moss
#

why would i ever want that

wheat plume
#

I hate using fn to change volume and whatnot

#

so id use fn lock almost fulltime

halcyon moss
#

well i have honestly no idea. fkeys should be f keys

#

there is a mac mode though.. maybe thats what it does?

#

nope

wheat plume
#

no

#

Honestly, I kinda wanna get a K3 now

#

But they only ship to America ;-;

vagrant elk
#

Avanna why not use a proxy?

halcyon moss
#

i found them on aliexpres

wheat plume
#

oooo THEY HAVE ISO LAYOUT FOR THE K3

vagrant elk
#

If by America you mean North America I could even be your proxy, I wouldn't mind at all.

wheat plume
#

Wait.... why do they have ISO layout if they ship to America only?

crimson wigeon
#

Because some people even in muricaland know it's the better layout

wheat plume
#

LOL

halcyon moss
#

bought mine here

#

the wrist rest is useless though.. waaaay too small. wooting tkl one works fine with it

#

they might ship to ireland, it is an option in the address list

wheat plume
#

oo

#

and that would avoid customs and impot tax if its from germany

halcyon moss
#

that would be from NL probably :p

wheat plume
#

ah, still applies

#

id like to get the red switch perhaps

halcyon moss
#

i got the browns

wheat plume
#

heavy af

#

The Wooting switch is still slightly too heavy for me when typing

#

but for games its great

halcyon moss
#

i got the gateron optical browns

#

not the keychron optical browns

#

and the noise of these has been approved for the coworking space im in :p

old marlin
#

Also ik that they have a rep that at least is very fluent in german

halcyon moss
#

goddammit.. i was debugging something that wasnt an bug.. i just configured it wrong. thats one whole day i wont get back

fair gull
#

gg

wheat plume
wheat plume
#

And trust

#

And other cheap af brands that make everything with cheap plastic that cracks at the slightest fall

old marlin
#

There are a ton of german retailers lol

pale sigil
#

I think pihole is blocking the countdown xD

#

Or is it the same for everyone

reef patrol
#

Here you go, Pleasant.

pale sigil
#

Family bonding time

halcyon moss
#

youre gonna fan your mom?

wheat plume
#

nice Only Fans order

old marlin
wheat plume
#

yepp

reef patrol
#

Almost as bad as Mech GB's xD

fair gull
pale sigil
#

So

#

Just realised

#

My cpu cooler has scratches on it

reef patrol
#

Not uncommon.

#

This is where thermal paste comes in.

pale sigil
#

OK good

#

But it's quite a few xD

reef patrol
#

I've seen worse, much worse.

pale sigil
#

Also some of the thermal paste dried, I must have really butchered my orignal application

#

Also now I see why people use isopropyl

reef patrol
#

It can break up hardened paste - And remove the oily finish.

misty saffron
#

microshit at it again

#

WDK header that doesn't compile :)

fair gull
pale sigil
#

beautiful

umbral knot
pale sigil
#

fans are on 5%

pale sigil
#

i need to adjust my curves

#

xD

#

i think i cocked up

#

with the thermal paste tho

#

we will see

#

wow

#

these are silent

fair gull
#

there is no too much thermal paste only too little and garbage paste

pale sigil
#

i think more

umbral knot
#

just submerge the entire motherboard in thermal paste and you won't have to worry about thermals

pale sigil
#

i accidently moved the block to much

#

when fitting in the cooler

#

xD

fair gull
#

so?

fair gull
#

moving it doesnt change the amount

pale sigil
#

why the fuck is my gpu suddenly 51c

#

that makes no sense

#

well

#

ye ok

#

0% fan speed

#

but still

fair gull
#

maybe worse airflow

pale sigil
#

idk how

latent mural
#

50-60 is normal on 0 rpm

pale sigil
crimson wigeon
#

I dunno that seems very normal with fan off

pale sigil
#

literally getting all the air

fair gull
#

i usually get 48-50 0rpm

pale sigil
#

nob, i just noticed the rogue wire

fair gull
#

could also be env difference tbh

pale sigil
#

now i have to open it up again

fair gull
#

id guess a delta T ambient would be more helpful than raw temp

pale sigil
#

hmm

#

Why is ryzen so weird

#

with spikes

#

3600x was bad for it

#

ok now im seeing it 😎

#

50c in game

#

feelsgoodman 40c gpu 0% fan, 25c CPU 5% fans, gpu
gpu 45-50c in game d2 50c cpu fans on 30%

#

not the best benchmark

#

but major improvement

#

tho my room is pretty cool rn

#

btw @ashen spindle should i use eco mode for my psu?

#

never had one that had a switch before

#

its been off like

ashen spindle
#

I don’t see a point in using it

pale sigil
#

ite

fair gull
#

lol eco mode

#

isnt that kinda pointless on a good psu

#

it only draws whats needed anyway

hidden yacht
#

Is "eco" mode on psu not more like silent mode? at least the one psu I had with it only thing that happened where fans off

pale sigil
#

PSUs make noise?

#

xD

ashen spindle
#

fan noise

#

so yeah, if you hear that you got other issues probably

umbral knot
#

hol up you mean they aren't supposed to click

reef patrol
#

(We're being sarcastic)

night beacon
reef patrol
night beacon
#

I didn’t even read the other chats just that one lol

umbral knot
#

nah but fr tho my old psu did click

#

and I promptly filed a warranty claim and got it replaced because I'd rather not have a faulty psu that could ruin every other part in my pc

night beacon
#

I sold a cpu ok eBay for $750

#

I5 9th gen I guess the didn’t know a lot about pcs lol

fair gull
#

wait

#

psus arent supposed to make fire?

night beacon
#

No they’re suppose to emit lava

reef patrol
#

Ah yes.

P Pcobblestone
S Sgenerator
U Unit

night beacon
#

Ah yes it also emits water too to make the cobblestone

fair gull
#

i thought ud need a combo outlet like these for such a psu

reef patrol
night beacon
#

I was building a psu and it blew up -_-

fair gull
#

why build a psu

night beacon
#

It’s fun

#

I build a costume gpu and it was better than a 1080Ti so that’s something

fair gull
#

is this some r/quityourbullshit moment

reef patrol
#

Intel would like to know your location

night beacon
#

No you can dead ass build it just like nick eh 30s dad he built 2 pcs with all costume made components

reef patrol
night beacon
#

I gave it to my cousin cause I have a 2060

reef patrol
#

Good luck making something even remotely similar to a graphics card by hand.

#

It only has a billion transistors etc.

night beacon
#

I already made one

reef patrol
#

No. No you did not. Mr. Timetraveller 😄

latent mural
#

his dad's the head of TSMC

night beacon
#

Smh it’s took a while but you can do it

latent mural
#

duh

umbral knot
#

I mean maybe like a 20 year old graphics card

reef patrol
#

No. No you can not. 😄

umbral knot
#

okie

reef patrol
#

Repairing a 1080 by soldering on new SMCs and whatnot is an entirely different matter. But not at all what you're describing

latent mural
#

it would have to be much older than 20 years

reef patrol
#

My dude that's just putting an existing GPU in an enclosure. dogekek dogekek

latent mural
#

for 'homemade' at least

night beacon
#

Building a GPU can be a relatively simple process, but you'll need to do plenty of research. Take stock of your current hardware rig. ... Check your hardware for compatible ports (Thunderbolt, HDMI, USB), power restrictions, and other details

reef patrol
#

And a multi billion dollar chip fab.

pale sigil
#

Yall just taking the bait

reef patrol
#

I don't do bait. I do bans.

latent mural
#

nah this guy's ahead of the industry

reef patrol
latent mural
#

display over USB

fair gull
#

i really wanna post this on r/quityourbullshit

night beacon
#

Ok I will ask my cousin for the pic

#

Ok maybe I underestimated how good a 1080ti was lol

fair gull
#

maybe you underestimated how hard it is to make a gpu

#

you made 0

night beacon
#

It’s took 8 months

#

It was hard finding the parts also

#

It’s like building a pc but harder to find parts and build

misty saffron
night beacon
#

I don’t want to work for nvidia

#

I’m already majoring in computer science

fair gull
#

LOL

night beacon
#

(Cyber security)

fair gull
#

ah yes

#

the field known for hardware engineering

night beacon
#

Just a hobby

fair gull
#

ye ok imma collect some screens and just dump this on reddit

night beacon
#

Ok

#

What the r/ going to be called

latent mural
#

r/sounding

fair gull
#

r/quityourbullshit obviously

night beacon
#

-_-

#

Just wait until I give you the pic before you do it

#

Just so you know I didn’t make the parts of the gpu I just got the parts and put them together

#

So it’s not that hard except find parts

fair gull
#

and writing drivers

#

and a vbios

#

and designing a pcb

misty saffron
fair gull
#

the dude made his own gpu as a hobby

ashen spindle
#

where did you get the silicon wafer?

fair gull
#

obviously

#

like one does

misty saffron
#

from the silicon mines

fair gull
#

lol

#

well imma get to stitching screenshots

night beacon
#

Of course you’re like that

fair gull
#

because u just didnt build a custom gpu

night beacon
#

How do you know

fair gull
#

because it takes entire teams around a year to design the hardware

#

and you did it as a hobby in 8months

#

ya

night beacon
#

I didn’t make thit hard ware

#

I just bought it

#

And put it together

fair gull
#

so its not a custom gpu

#

just custom cooling

ashen spindle
#

so you changed the cooler on it?

latent mural
#

you should've asked what he put together before suggesting that lol

ashen spindle
#

or a custom PCB?

fair gull
#

he claimed its custom gpu

#

which is still bs

night beacon
#

Ep your saying you can’t put a gpu together with the parts

fair gull
#

thats not what makes it custom

night beacon
#

That’s like saying you can’t put a pc together with the parts l

latent mural
#

arctic

night beacon
#

If you build a pc isn’t it a codon built pc and not a prebuilt?

latent mural
#

how many tenga eggs are there in your GPU?

night beacon
#

That’s the same for fous

fair gull
ashen spindle
#

the difference is nobody says they make a custom cpu if they switch the cooler

#

bc thats not what anyone associates that with

reef patrol
#

I'd like to think the phrasing was pretty hard to misunderstand. Especially given zero interest in correcting yourself throughout the discussion 😛

fair gull
#

its a custom pc cause the PARTS are different between each pc

#

a custom gpu would mean custom parts

#

not just buying a gpu in singular parts that arent soldered on

night beacon
#

Ok listen I put the gpu together with parts I didn’t build that hardware or anything

fair gull
#

so its a bog standard gpu

night beacon
#

Pretty much

misty saffron
#

friends

fair gull
#

sad

#

he quit his bullshit

#

cant post anymore

misty saffron
#

any recommendations on lightweight c++ key-value storage libs?

night beacon
#

It wasn’t bs it was just put out the wrong way

fair gull
#

id suggest writing your own tbh @misty saffron

misty saffron
#

fuck no

fair gull
#

wasnt there

#

uh

#

whats it called

#

no shit thats a db

#

but its key value based

#

RocksDB

misty saffron
#

yeah yikes

#

don't want a 100mb binary

fair gull
#

btw why not a map

#

or do u need persistent storage

reef patrol
misty saffron
night beacon
#

Also sorry mansen I didn’t respond fast I’m in class

wheat plume
#

anyone here know if PCSpecialist laptops are good?

reef patrol
#

Going to bet they're just rebranded Clevo? laptops from China.

wheat plume
wheat plume
#

I assume this should be able to get windows 11?

ashen spindle
#

what reason would there be for it to not work?

wheat plume
#

idk what laptop to get ;-;

reef patrol
ashen spindle
#

I genuinely dont think theres a single somewhat modern chip without tpm built in

#

like even celerons and such

#

also we don't know what laptop you should get either if you say nothing about what you need 😛

wheat plume
#

Long battery life
and at least 256GB SSD

#

around 700-900 euro

#

and not loud ass fans that sound like jet engines

#

Isnt AMD better on a laptop cause its better thermally and has longer battery life?

crimson wigeon
#

Nah AMD is for poor people Intel is where all the good stuff's at

earnest jay
wheat plume
#

;-;

ashen spindle
#

false

#

blanket statements are not accurate in all cases like that

#

lots of cases where amd isn't best

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah I'm just memeing

ashen spindle
#

was mostly at mew, I knew what you mean dont worry 😛

wheat plume
#

ok
The pink PC Specialist one or the lenovo flex 14?

#

lenovo: AMD CPU, 512 SSD, touchscreen, Windows 10 S, 65WHr battery
pc specialist: Intel 11th gen, 256 SSD, no OS, 73WHr battery

earnest jay
#

I'd go for the Lenovo.

wheat plume
#

Lenovo one has a fingerprint scanner that may or may not work in Linux

#

Lenovo comes with windows 10 S

#

so itll be packed with bloatware

#

and if I do a clean install of regular 10, that bloatware will reinstall like it does on my current laptop also

earnest jay
#

Well, you could deselect Windows 10 in PC specialist and use the savings to get a larger NVMe storage drive.

wheat plume
#

I did, saving 120 euro for not getting windows installed!

#

but its still a little more expensive than the Lenovo

#

with 256GB SSD

earnest jay
#

What parts did you select for the pink laptop?

wheat plume
#

I just selected the 256GB SSD and said no OS install

#

price is 866 now

earnest jay
#

With this specs, for me it comes out as €21,- more expensive than the Lenovo, and no Win10 selected.

reef patrol
#

soldered RAM

wheat plume
#

idc about the OS, I have windows on USB already

crimson wigeon
#

It's the future!

wheat plume
reef patrol
#

The future? That RAM speed is over five years old at this point.

#

You're literally locked at a petty 2666Mhz

crimson wigeon
#

Soldered means it got good contact with the motherboard, thus better performance!

reef patrol
wheat plume
#

idc about the speed much, cause I just use it for college mostly

#

or I would but my current laptop only lasts 50 minutes on battery so its useless to bring to college

fair gull
#

you just a foundation one

#

or whatever they are called

wheat plume
#

framework?

#

the modular one?

#

Do I get dead pixel insurance for a year for €24?

earnest jay
#

Framework is US only for now though, so you could try.
And I don't think so.

wheat plume
#

fair enough

#

thats a long time

#

ITS NOT IN STOCK?! ffs

earnest jay
#

1.5 to 2 work weeks is not too bad, but can't pay more for faster build time?

wheat plume
#

I cant order this rn ;-;

earnest jay
#

Shame.

#

I myself would really like to get the Framework as a laptop, but need to wait till they broaden their market regions.

wheat plume
#

mm ;-;

#

I can order now

#

just got to wait a bit longer for it to send out

fair gull
#

im really eyeing framework

wheat plume
fair gull
#

would be the first laptop id buy

wheat plume
#

Its really begging me to get Windows pre-installed xd

#

blobhyperthinkfast Wait what?! it comes with Windows anyway... ?

reef patrol
#

Yep. Just without a license.

#

This is basically just to say "we told you so" if someone buys without an OS and complains about software.

wheat plume
#

Yeh, but I can login to it with my MS account and then itll be activated

reef patrol
#

Correct.

wheat plume
#

so I saved 120 euro xd

wheat plume
#

I wont put Windows on it though

#

At least not yet, if I need to for some software for college then I will

thick elk
#

Ah I have around a 5 year older version of that one

#

It does the job, inexpensive but workable and somewhat upgradable. Only stupid thing is that this store requires a working system and won't sell you a barebones kit you can just add storage and ram.
Ended up going for the cheapest option on both and replacing it.

#

You do pay a premium over sourcing the storage and ram yourself.

#

Personally for my next laptop I would probably get something else, back then actually getting an okay 1080p thing was far from standard in my price range

wheat plume
#

I should get the Lenovo one...

#

but I cant upgrade ram in that later on

#

but if I get this one, I need to wait a month for the stock to come back in and then 2 weeks for them to build it then 4 days for delivery

wheat plume
#

Yes, but I have to wait a month for the stock to arrive
Then the 8-10 days

#

then delivery

#

I may cancel this order

#

get a cheaper one thats in stock

#

how long should a 50.8Whr battery last with an intel core i5-1035G1 (1GHz) cpu?

#

screen brightness less than half

reef patrol
#

Headphones? Wat?

wheat plume
#

usually what I have mine at

ashen spindle
#

"less than half" is not a value of brightness lmao

reef patrol
#

Bluetooth headphone batteries are tiny my dude.

#

The headphones are not even remotely your concern when it comes to laptop battery life 😄

#

Not everyone brings a beefy DAC and Sennheisers with them everywhere. Just saying.

wheat plume
#

Should I cancel order

#

get one thats in stock

#

?

reef patrol
#

Can you find a better alternative that IS in stock? Then cancel.

wheat plume
#

I dont like waiting a month for delivery

#

not even delivery

#

delivery is another 14 days

reef patrol
#

Sounds like you have plenty of time to look for alternatives then 😉

crisp granite
#

apple doing something right???

wheat plume
#

63WHr bvattery

#

AMD Ryzen

crisp granite
#

Ryzen go brrrr

thick elk
#

In terms of audio quality I would recommend everyone to play with eq profile, just downloading one from autoeq can make a world of difference.

wheat plume
#

my headphones arent supported by autoeq

thick elk
#

It turned my work headphones (sennheisser 598cs) from sounding pretty bad to actually being pretty good.

#

Oh boy, probably means really shit or pretty obscure

wheat plume
#

It seems to be just audiophile ones it has

#

sennheiser, sony

thick elk
#

Not just those, pretty large selection

wheat plume
#

Does this only work on Windows?

thick elk
#

No pretty much everywhere. On linux you just need to use pipewire and use easyeffects

wheat plume
#

It seems I have Pipewire installed

thick elk
#

you also generally need pipewire-pulse

wheat plume
thick elk
#

yes

#

it is a drop-in replacement

wheat plume
#

no it isnt....

thick elk
#

Actually works a lot better with bluetooth audio as well.

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah it replaces pulseaudio making your Linux audio experience finally great again

wheat plume
#

it doesnt do BT

#

Do I need to relog?

#

restart?

thick elk
#

I don't know, maybe restart the service doesn't hurt at least

crimson wigeon
#

Being able to freely route audio around is cool shit that I'm not sure other systems can do

thick elk
#

pulseaudio was always pretty bad and in dire need of replacing anyway.

wheat plume
#

hmmm

#

what I do now? XZD

crimson wigeon
#

You see if sound still works, and try something like pw-top in a terminal near you

wheat plume
crimson wigeon
#

So it works now get pulseeffects installed (or is it easyeffects now?)

wheat plume
#

OH FUCK
The volume was at maximum

thick elk
#

easyeffects now that it uses pipewire

wheat plume
#

my ears

crimson wigeon
#

Omegalul

wheat plume
#

This shit?

thick elk
#

I don't know what headphone you have though

wheat plume
#

I have the CoolerMaster MH752

crimson wigeon
#

Just grab all the plugins you can find and use them all at the same time for the wildest experience

thick elk
wheat plume
#

There is 2 .wav

thick elk
#

depends on if you use 44100hz or 48000hz sampling rate

#

really does not matter that much in practice

wheat plume
#

uh..

#

idk what its using

#

48000

#

what are the .wav for?

thick elk
#

it's the eq profile

wheat plume
#

easyeffects couldnt install

thick elk
#

oh weird, you use manjaro right?

wheat plume
#

Arco

thick elk
#

it works on my vanilla arch just fine

wheat plume
#

hmmm

#

oh what

crimson wigeon
#

Looks like a real professional operation there

thick elk
#

maybe it's pacman -Syu time again?

#

or even pacman key time

wheat plume
#

ok, its solved now

#

ok, easyeffects worked now

thick elk
#

so did you get the convolver profile working?

wheat plume
#

I have this and a blank window on easyeffects

thick elk
#

you click on plugins in the bottom

#

add plugin

#

convolver

wheat plume
#

ook..one sec

#

ok

thick elk
#

from there you go to impulses and import it and load it

wheat plume
#

import the .wav?

thick elk
#

yea

wheat plume
#

did that

#

Load it?

thick elk
#

I would also lower the input volume by 5.1db as it may introduce clipping otherwise

#

yea

thick elk
#

the bar wit hinput

wheat plume
#

Wait, does this apply only to left channel?!

thick elk
#

no on both

wheat plume
#

oh, its the same for both now

thick elk
#

yea don't mind it much

wheat plume
#

is that all I must do?

thick elk
#

does it work when playing some music

wheat plume
#

Yeah, audio still works

thick elk
#

especially fiddling with the input slider should be very noticable

wheat plume
#

I put it back to 0.0

#

no clipping so far

thick elk
#

but do you hear it working is mostly what I meant

wheat plume
#

Lemme play a song im familiar with..one sec

#

wait wait

#

Was I meant to be in the inmput or output tab at the top?

thick elk
#

it is basically the gain before and after processing

wheat plume
#

Oh

#

I pressed the "Bypass" button and that changed the sound

thick elk
#

that bypasses the effect so that means it's working

wheat plume
#

audio shit makes my brain hurt

thick elk
#

in the top right menu you can check start service at startup to auto start it.

#

Anyway in general this should make your headphones sound more neutral

wheat plume
#

It made my desktop freeze for like 30 seconds when I enabled it to load on startup...

thick elk
#

seems about right

wheat plume
#

oo

#

it does sound better

#

more bass

#

and bit more details in the back

#

hold on...

#

wut... I seletced that one and no difference
So I guess its already using it?

thick elk
#

well if it changes when you click bypass means it's working

wheat plume
#

Yep, it did change

#

Less "tinny" sounding

#

idk the proper term

like its not struggling to push the volume

#

thats not the way to describe that... idk anymore

thick elk

Basically looking at the profile of your headphone it had too much upper base which generally makes it sound a bit tinny and it also was lacking a bit in trebble.

wheat plume

I think it stopped working

#

yeah, it stops working when I close the app window

#

OMFH WTF

#

WHY

wheat plume
#

the flatpak version makes the entire desktop freeze for too long for me to wait if I open up a file chooser dialog

crimson wigeon
#

Lol yeah that that menu mess is a reason why I'm not too impressed with arch distros

wheat plume
#

Easy effects only does this shit on arch?

vagrant elk
#

Sorry, I had to read up a bit and skim a bunch to figure out what that is. Easy Effects is basically audiophile software for Linux?

crimson wigeon
#

It happens because Arch don't like to split up packages so you installing a plugin pack obviously means you want all the different versions: standalone, LADSPA, LV2, LXVST, etc..

halcyon moss
#

happens on ubuntu too

#

kinda annoying.. but i never use that menu ¯_(ツ)_/¯

crimson wigeon
#

Ubuntu appears to split them up so it would only happen if dependencies are fucked or they all recommend each other (and you install recommends)

halcyon moss
#

i think i installed that for better sound on my laptop speakers.. but it also applied the profile on my headphones.. soooo it was too much hassle

#

I'm proud of myself, it was Ireland that is separate.

#

I almost always get it wrong.

wheat plume
#

part of Ireland is the UK

#

(shh, very political statement...SHUT)

halcyon moss
#

and for some reason they really want to be

#

oh yeah.. that reason is a slightly different view on their religion

vagrant elk
#

Well, I hate myself. I'm planning on moving to another country in the future but apparently if I move to that country I can't setup a company and use Stripe. Instead Stripe is like "If you're country isn't supported for a business, you can legally register your business in the USA, setup a USA bank account and use our platform that way" which is just overcomplicating everything.

halcyon moss
#

why cant you start a company in the other country?

#

where do you even want to move to?

vagrant elk
#

It's not that I can't start a company in the country I plan to move to, it's that Stripe doesn't allow businesses in that country to do business with their platform unless they make a US company.

#

PayPal supports the country though.

#

ashen spindle
#

yea not seen a single good usecase of it yet

vagrant elk
#

Well, that's a stupid but easy solution. Shopify supports the country I want to move to, handles all of the hosting for me (this is HUGE! I hate dealing with servers despite loving control) and supports a lot of payment gateways.

vagrant elk
young pecan
#

Kek

vagrant elk
#

Honestly, I'm surprised. Shopify lets you use cryptocurrency payment processors on your website.

#

I do have to admit though, I feel like adding cryptocurrency checkout on your website/store makes it seem less professional. A lot of people see cryptocurrencies and assume it's a scam and for good reason.

misty saffron
#

"good reason" dogekek

#

ah yes all scammers

vagrant elk
#

I was more so meaning that it's extremely easy for people that don't know what they are doing to get scammed with cryptocurrencies and since they are often used as a stock and not a currency people are sceptical when companies accept cryptocurrency payments. Not saying all people are like that of course, just the normies which is a large majority.

young pecan
#

Ngl I just can't wait for a really good currency that can actually be used.

vagrant elk
#

Monero is usable, just that verification of payment takes a while.

young pecan
#

Monero is dog shit, sadly.

#

Good but crippled.

#

Needs SPEED.

vagrant elk
#

If you mean in-person then yeah, it's rough. Oxen is interesting though. It's a monero fork with all of the privacy benefits but can do instant transactions.

young pecan
#

Ooh.

vagrant elk
#

Unfortunately Oxen is so underground that exchanges don't have it listed. You basically have to buy Ethereum, swap it to wrapped Oxen and exchange that for true Oxen.

#

Sorry, small correction. Two exchanges have it. KuCoin and Bittrex.

young pecan
#

Mm.

#

Think it might actually go somewhere?

#

And what algo/proof is it?

vagrant elk
#

It's forked from CryptoNote and later changed to Proof-of-Stake. The reason instant transactions are possible is because they have validator nodes that stake 15,000 Oxen around the world.

young pecan
#

Interesting.

vagrant elk
#

They are trying to use it as both a currency with blink transactions which are the instant transactions (2 second verification time last I checked) and a backbone for other technology. Session messenger uses the validators as nodes to bounce message traffic between and Loki Network is their version of Tor which also uses the validators as nodes.

young pecan
#

Pretty dope.

vagrant elk
#

The website is kind of bad, I preferred their old one but this is their official website.

https://oxen.io/

Oxen

Oxen is built by the OPTF, a passionate team of advocates, creatives, and engineers building a world where the internet is open, software is free and accessible, and your privacy is protected. The OPTF also builds other platforms using Oxen technology, and supports other developers in building on Oxen.

#

They're Australian too.

#

I really like their idea, the cryptocurrency is pretty awesome. The Loki Network is supposed to be their version of Tor which will support both TCP and UDP connections with, according to them, low enough latency that voice and video calls over the network will be possible. Session uses the Loki Network to transmit messages between users and hide their IP addresses, basically acting as Signal without a central server or a phone number requirement. In fact, Session is a fork of Signal.

#

Not trying to shill, I just genuinely love the idea behind it and think it's quite interesting.

#

Wait, I stand corrected. Oxen is now on CoinPayments and Coinbase. They are slowly growing outwards.

the key for ordering a laptop for anyone doing engineering or software dev or intensive load is getting one branded a “Mobile Workstation”

that means they intend for it to be not sat behind a desk all day and to be brought out to a job where power may not be available, and still do all the work… just like college

wheat plume
#

True true

sage lodge
#

also the other reason my college makes us buy the same laptop is so IT can actually do repairs on them (we’re in the middle of nowhere so if IT can’t, say bye to your laptop for 3 days minimum)

wheat plume
#

Meanwhile the college computers take 5 minutes to boot up
And an extra 3-5 minutes to login to the desktop once you've entered your login details

the cs classes literally tell us day 1 to bring 2 extra things: a mouse, and the laptop charger.

vagrant elk
#

We didn't have enough space for bringing mice but laptop chargers were highly recommended. We had chargers behind most seats so if you got a good seat your charger would be long enough. If you sat in the middle they weren't close enough so extension cords were needed.

Sloooow

#

I want it to be unlocked before it's out of my pocket like my s8 was

empty wren
astral haven
#

I now use the keep unlocked with my smartwatch despite the security and it's still slower than my s8 was

#

I'd also be happy with a side fingerprint tho I'd be less happy about that because there's so much space on the back

empty wren
#

If anything that can be more secure, literally a wireless security key maybe not meant to be or built for that but whatever

astral haven
#

It's not

#

It's a Garmin watch so it's just using bluetooth

#

Which is very very long range (over 50 feet) and defconned to hell and back

empty wren
#

Oh wait sorry I misread that...

#

I thought it was like the apple watch feature

astral haven
#

It's similar but with non Samsung watches it's not secure

#

Also the keep awake with apple watch has also been defconned already even tho it's less than a year old

#

Bluetooth is noooot a secure protocol

empty wren
#

Well of course not

astral haven
#

Hope that people start using uwb for this purpose

empty wren
#

Speaking of that really dumb the Pixel 6 Pro only has ultra wide band

astral haven
#

Woooow

#

Yea my s21u has uwb but it's useless for now pretty much

#

They made it so many buttons to enable the find by camera feature (on the tag) that it's easier to just ring it

empty wren
#

They really want to use it huh

#

Well at least there is another example of a good use of AR

astral haven
#

Oh wait no they changed it
Now it just doesn't allow you to enable the ar searching unless you use the non ar searching for some amount of time???

#

Anyways time of flight security is best security

Really now?

Yup
It's tough to implement but it's foolproof

#

Near infrared yep

empty wren
#

Ah

astral haven
#

Time of flight security is throw out a result that takes too long to come back
