Also would be pretty easy to seize and use for political gain. Dont even know when they do it when they got a gag order attached. Especially dictatorships like china would love to have access to the censorship ability ;)

There is a reason the burden of proof is on the state. Dont know how it would deal with encryped disks, networks and tor. Which is where most of the enforcement effort tend to go. Take out the biggest targets, especially where the money is.

astral haven

And it'll automatically catch pretty much everyone, and apple Already scans all you icloud photos for faces anyways

Phones would be primary target in most cases. One time tokens, recovery, sms, two factor, access to the phone tends to be very significant

astral haven

Pincus you really gotta stop completely ignoring what we are talking about...

#

It's extremely annoying

reef tundra
#

It would be very likely any traffic in their servers to be scanned. Inbound especially.

astral haven
#

There you go

#

Also I'd be very concerned if outbound traffic had abuse content...

reef tundra
#

Almost certain spam/denial-of-service/malware/etc would be used outbound too

astral haven
#

If apple servers had outbound malware and dos attacks that would be a biiig problem...

reef tundra
#

Likely some similairity checking and storing the best quality of the image for keeping storage requirement lower

astral haven
#

Data dedupe is done on a block level...

#

And those are done on encrypted files...

reef tundra

They would atleast meet the legal requirement of attempting to block malware/dos attacks from being executed. Otherwise the safeheaven provisions tend to not apply anymore.

So my issue most likely was and still is that DP spec sucks

#

Both monitor and mobo are providing power to 20 th pin, creating ā€œshort circuitā€ and also causing things getting powered when they should not.
Things like 19 pin cables exist for this reason. Still the fact that the spec works like this and can cause so many issues…

ashen spindle
#

man you fanboy over the weirdest things

#

hdmi isn't a savior vs DP lol

#

also dp spec afaik does not have power carrying

#

manufacturers not following spec isn't really the specs fault

#

so in your case it would mean eve and/or gigabyte implemented it not according to spec and not that the spec sucks

shadow minnow
#

It’s just confusing when you have 19 and 20 pin cables where you think you have no difference. Also this can be issue even with dGPUs

reef tundra
#

Thats not how short circuits even form. You can add as many power providers as you want, no current will flow since there is no voltage difference between them. If anything you would be able to consume more current from them both without issues. Then it should be standard practice to add current limiters and safety guards. Fuses, diodes, transistors, zener diodes, and whatnot.

shadow minnow
#

Issue is mainly when pc is not yet on and monitor is, GPU gets power from the 3.3v when it should not. Which can cause problems.

#

That is why it would work if I turned pc on while monitor was off

ashen spindle
#

but the spec doesnt have issues, it's defined and people aren't following it lmao

shadow minnow
#

The biggest issue is just cable manufacturers since there are two options and some never bothered. Sure spec itself is not the main issue but would be simpler if there was either only 19 pin possible or if monitor would not provide power, since no one way of issue occurring then.

reef tundra
#

Cut the cable then 🤷 unconnected like dp 1.1 and later recommend. Since the power supply was for adaptors, amplifiers and the like to consume. 1.5W

shadow minnow
# ashen spindle hdmi isn't a savior vs DP lol

Not at all, because I don’t like sth about DP does not mean I am fanboy of HDMI. lul HDMI has thing that sucks similarly or even more - HDMI 2.1 can be compressed or uncompressed, and it’s not interchangeable. Also 40 and 48 gb versions…

ashen spindle
shadow minnow
#

Gotta love when pc stops being stable without any changes to anything, just from one boot to another

thick elk
#

A good guess would be unstable memory or updating your bios

#

compressed air and reseating memory can also help

ashen spindle
#

just means his previous OC stability test was not long enough

thick elk
#

reseating memory once fixed a weird issue I had, my system simply would not boot cold, and I had to use a hair dryer before it booted. Reverting memory back to stock did not help even.
Turns out all I had to do was blow some compressed air and reseat the memory.

#

As for stress testing it's not just length but also the tests themselves. Not all tests will find all errors.

shadow minnow
thick elk
#

30m is really not a lot to stress test

you are out of stock hence your settings have reasons to be unstable

thick elk

ashen spindle

yeah so it used some memory addresses that weren't causing issue or something

thick elk

because if it's memory it really just depends on the sectors that are hit

shadow minnow

no, with settings you thought were stable after a short test

#

that is not considered stable xD

shadow minnow
#

After multiple tests in total running for hour and half and then normal use. Next time it crashed every time in less than 15 minutes. If instability was so high it would crash sooner the first time.

misty saffron
thick elk
#

dynamic contrast at work?

misty saffron
#

uhm

#

not sure what would do that when a video is on screen

shadow minnow
#

What matters more to iGPU, frequency or timings?

thick elk
#

dynamic contrast settings basically increase brightness when there is lots of bright things on screen, the video has a different brighness than the background, that's why I thought it.

shadow minnow
#

It’s almost always clock_watchdog_timeout

halcyon moss
#

sooo @shadow minnow how stable is your system with everything stock?

misty saffron
#

well

#

that's not enabled

shadow minnow
ashen spindle
#

you make yourself think it's stable when you really didn't do a stability test, for those you need to run it overnight or so, not just a couple minutes

#

sure if its really unstable thats enough

#

but not failing in 30 minutes does not make it stable for days

halcyon moss
#

personally.. i'd really confirm i'd have a stable system with stock settings

shadow minnow
#

I mean, it was two hours. Sure not stable for days. But like 10 times more stable than atm

#

And also don’t like to do full stability tests since with iGPU and everything on heavy single core load or very heavy multi core get temps high

ashen spindle
#

then how can you claim it's stable waitwhat

shadow minnow
#

Strange thing is, cb single core benchmarks do not work very single core for me. Don’t allow cpu to boost to sc frequency too.

shadow minnow
ashen spindle
#

that sounds like some issue if you cant start a program xD

halcyon moss
#

you run circles around the actual questions

shadow minnow
misty saffron
#

can somebody please tell me why there isn't a way to make them of the same size

#

microsoft expects people to have same dpi displays or what

#

sorry, expects all displays to be same dpi

ashen spindle
#

so your system has issue clearly and you OC and expect it to be perfectly stable

#

idk thats just not how it works

thick elk
#

Personally what I did in terms of stability tests on my current system (cpu + mem) is the following:

#

12 hours of prime95 small fft's

#

2 hours of linpack

#

2 hours of stressapptest (for memory)

misty saffron
#

omfg this exists

thick elk
#

The last one is a really efficient memory stress test but only runs on linux and requires I think 95% free memory

But no, thats Windows 11

misty saffron
thick elk

You can set scaling per display just fine in windows

misty saffron
#

wat

thick elk
#

I did it back when I still used it

misty saffron
#

you can't edit screen sizes in windows

#

bigger resolution = apparently bigger screen

thick elk
#

But you can adjust dpi scaling which will also make ui elements bigger

misty saffron
#

but.. what for

thick elk
#

Back when I used it I used a 1440p 24 inch screen which was a little on the small side so I scaled it to 125%

misty saffron

So I just bought a new cable because of the 20th pin issue. And it’s again connected. Smh. Just why, gotta return it, and get a new cable tomorrow.

reef tundra
#

Take a knife, chop the cable

ashen spindle
#

or just get a monitor/board that follows spec kek

reef tundra
#

Nah, spec is bad for manufacturers failing to meet spec. Like how USB is bad because some decide to not have the data cables dogekek Blame the spec and not the implementation. Its too expensive

shadow minnow
ashen spindle
#

yesn't, the cable should not have it but any other connector should be wired in a way to just not recieve it even if it's connected, that's part of the spec too that the gpu or in this case board should not accept voltage from it

fair gull
#

how can a cable be out of spec

#

isnt it just wires

ashen spindle
#

well the spec says a cable should have 19 wires, but some have 20

fair gull
#

like i get insulation/shielding specs

ashen spindle
#

and if those are connected it can cause voltage to flow when it shouldnt

#

3v wire or smth like that

fair gull
#

im almost sure theres a connector spec that says ignore

ashen spindle
#

yeah but if cable ignores it AND the connector ignores spec, you get issues

#

and that happens/happened a lot

#

probably because cheaper to throw trash cable into production that works 99% of time and blame others if it doesnt

shadow minnow
#

Yeah, lot of people had issues with this, even with dGPUs. But with other monitor it works. So either it’s not that bad only sometimes and that monitor possibly killed my last CPU, or it does not follow the spec and provide power.

fair gull
#

another fix woukd be rip the pin out of the cable connectors Kappa

shadow minnow
shadow minnow

I think people end up using a USB port for that

Unless something changed

For 7.1 faux

wheat plume

I have to use the USB port .-. cause windows wont send audio to them over the 3.5mm jack

wheat plume

CoolerMaster MH752

reef tundra

Depends on the quality of your DAC outputting the audio waves

empty wren

USB audio probably not that great

#

Hence why they got an equalizer and stuff

wheat plume
#

Its decent but the audio jack was ever so slightly better

empty wren
#

Yeah that should be since it is dedicated to it

#

Also I see no mention of USB or audio jack 7.1 just that it exists and there is button to toggle it

wheat plume

a bit

Too high? Imc does not like it and produces more errors

#

Can’t go to cl 18 on 4400 MHz for example, cl 17 is literally more stable

reef tundra
#

Need more cooling on that memory šŸ‘€ memory doesnt like heat

shadow minnow
#

Even without heat the second issue occurs

#

However I have no way to cool it more since it’s in a case, 7 full speed vardars not enough.

reef tundra
#

You have one of the fabled infinite coolers?

shadow minnow
#

Cpu yes

#

But ram and ssd can hit over 45c

shadow minnow
#

Also cpu when I blow up tnt in Minecraft carpet can hit 98c, or with linpack lul
But otherwise it’s 50-74c under full load

#

As soon as I reach over 40c on ram errors start coming in

#

Just decreased timings and voltages so hope it helps, so far it’s actually more stable at cl 16-17-17 compared to 17-17-17

reef tundra
#

Because bits begin to like to flip more at higher temperature

shadow minnow
#

That’s quite useful. Had headset that sucked but could connect to 3 devices at once and that was nice

#

No way the memory with lower cas, not higher, is stable at 45c

reef tundra
#

Thats a bluetooth standard

#

How much did they pay you to shill the product?

shadow minnow
#

Biggest issue is when ram temp stops showing up after some errors

old marlin
#

ah was wondering if they were gonna be gaming ones or something

shadow minnow
#

That’s nice, but did you hear of AirPods Pro? Dolby atmos, transparency mode, noise cancellation…
But now using Amazon affiliate link in description

old marlin
#

good joke

reef tundra
#

Atmos dogekek just some software

old marlin
#

WF-1000XM3 were already pretty good

#

XM4s are prob even better

#

still no decent reviews afaik

#

which

#

the XM3?

#

ah

shadow minnow
#

4 errors at 48 c and it ended, 49 c brings bit more but it’s still surprisingly stable

old marlin
#

XM3s are nice

shadow minnow
#

Why my ram so hot

reef tundra
#

How can one know its good if you only own one?

old marlin
#

transparency has some problems

#

but I assume the 4 has them fixed

shadow minnow
#

Fan in front of ram instead of above not helping I guess

reef tundra
#

Maybe use them eyes too

shadow minnow
#

It’s especially great in planes

old marlin
#

and around the next corner

#

it works alright on the XM3

#

not great

reef tundra
shadow minnow
#

With songs playing at mid volume you just don’t hear the jet engines at all

old marlin
#

have heard the ones on aripods is quite good as well

shadow minnow
#

Indeed. But tbh hope for AirPods Pro 2 one day. Sure, normal pros are still good, but already pretty old, and pretty sure tech has improved since first pros came out and pro 2s could be better

old marlin
#

eh

#

won't go for ios

#

without ios airpods are shit

#

unless they changed the software

shadow minnow
#

Sure, but with it they are great. Also spatial stereo in iOS 15

reef tundra
#

So they added virtual surround and renamed it or what?

old marlin
#

na

#

they use the anc

#

to reflect sounds inwards

#

so you basically have fully open inears

#

on demand

#

enables you to listen to music on the streets without being run over

#

or in the office

#

but still being able to hear if someone calls for you

#

etc

#

quite a neat feature

#

if implemented well

reef tundra
#

Que the letters from hr that the devices don't meet the safety requirement of hearing protection. dogekek

old marlin
#

I mean

#

if you don't want to you don't have to wear them in the office

reef tundra
#

Dont think you want to be without them in 80dB environment or more. Actually hurts

shadow minnow
old marlin
reef tundra
#

The office not, but machines are loud and heavy.

#

Usually forget to take them off when returning though

old marlin
#

yea obv

#

people here wear headphones over the earplugs sometimes KEKW

reef tundra
#

Oh god, the communication is already strained without that

old marlin
#

not like they could hear anyone over the giant hardening oven screaming in the background

reef tundra
#

Wont hear much over the tinnitus hehe pneumatic are annoying

#

Hiss hiss hiss

old marlin
#

actually no pneumatics here

#

hardening oven is BY FAR the loudest thing in the hall

#

after than sorting machines

#

and after that the occasional plating drum being emptied

shadow minnow
#

This ram is finally pretty stable and actually at lower timings and voltages I first had to try. Still cursed since for example increasing SA decreased stability

#

SA is the cursest voltage ever. 1.275? Artifacts and no boot. 1.28? Most stable

shadow minnow
#

Wish this case had better airflow for ram. There is almost no air going through ram so temps can go high

pale sigil
#

damn it
