Heh sunday delivery is becoming a thing in nl

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah it won't be sold at that price

reef tundra
#

But does it run solitaire. As its not a fps game

#

The offbrand dont question origin one might have it as msrb, the rest dont need to follow

#

Also retailers can ignore them if they think it would still sell

#

Also weird to think that the manufacturer undervalues the estimated market value instead of being way off from actual market rate in the end

#

Nvidia still alive or ghosting somewhere like their dlls .dll .dlld .ifbutalotofthem apparently?

crimson wigeon
#

There'll be AMD built reference models?

reef tundra
#

Not sure what the graphs mean for games where performance stayed the same. Are they so subobtimal or that optimal programmed? probably being cpu bound?

crimson wigeon
#

What you see there is a comparison to the competitor

reef tundra
#

multiple games show significant change other non significant. blame magnets

#

so much vram though. thats like half my cpu has for system memory pepesweat Thats it im making a 32gb swap partition to not deadlock when it runs out. Rimworld mods can suck a lot of it apparently

#

wait. why did i make the swap on the harddrive and not my nvme ssd... might affect performance eh.. thonk

#

effort

crimson wigeon
#

Because you don't want to burn those precious write cycles

reef tundra
#

Yes, i totally tought that out.. and and planned it

dry tendon
#

I dont like the 3060. Its very small progress. This is like the 3060 - small progress

#

So Idont like 6600 XT either

crimson wigeon
#

Pretty much

reef tundra
#

Also finally added my hdd to my fstab so i can actually use them without mounting them first. So many dupllicate files and archives in archives. put them all nicely in a new archive and begin anew, infinite compression mm think about it. or a mess that should be organised. i dont like files they are hard to not clutter

#

atleast i have redundancy, a lot of it

#

wait i can let the cpu do the duplicate file handling thing. hopefully also able to handle images and other media. 🤔

old marlin
#

this printer ain't even 2 years old

#

and already at over 100000 pages

reef tundra
#

its like 4k pages a month

#

I am lucky to get fat lines on the page

halcyon moss
#

thick cpu

old marlin
#

yea makes sense in this case

#

to increase the size of hotspots of the chiplet designs

reef tundra
#

more surface area is good

old marlin
#

I mean

#

it doesn't provide more surface area

#

but it should spread it out better over the surface area

reef tundra
#

Hmm, would it be relevant for constant high loads or would it average out to be unnotice in those workloads?

old marlin
#

not an expert on thermodynamics

#

prob both though

#

well

#

depending on your cooler at least

reef tundra

Big metal block pretending to be your passive cooling mm

old marlin
#

it isn't there to act as a thermal sponge

So mini airco

I dislike that it is LGA

but otherwise good that it has a bracket

fair gull
#

we have a printer with finisher and all

#

its like 8months old

#

140k pages printed

old marlin
#

Lol

wheat plume
#

The Outlook apps doesnt divide email by time period like the website does....

#

its just one long ass list instead

#

why not?!

fair gull
#

u configured it to not divide it

u cab literally setup almost all if the ui

It is a render. Don't put much stock into this.

ashen spindle
#

^

hard thicket
#

hopefully it's a similar mechanism as the TR socket

#

because that one is really neat and userfriendly

astral haven
#

Lol

ashen spindle
#

idk havent used any higher end socket yet but any form of improvement there is welcome

hard thicket
#

agreed

#

AM4 is just awfull

ashen spindle
#

still a year before release so doubt we'll see final version before computex

astral haven
#

If there was a vapor chamber inside the ihs that would be very cool

hard thicket
#

direct die cooling would be lovely

#

maximum cooling effieciency

#

like on gpu's

astral haven
#

Problem is there's zero room for errors

hard thicket
#

the reason direct die will never happen for consumer stuff

astral haven
astral haven
hard thicket
#

that's the goal

hard thicket
#

uhm

#

at this point it's becoming marketing

ashen spindle
#

nah

#

I'd imagine we get to a point in whatever years where it's normal to have a 1000hz screen at any price point

hard thicket
#

yeah i meant more in terms of, actually benefits

timid chasm
#

infinity panels

ashen spindle
#

I mean, sure the benefits diminish, they don't reach 0 though

hard thicket
#

the step from 240 to 360 is already barely noticable

ashen spindle
#

and tech can't advance/get cheaper without it being new and expensive at first

#

yeah rule of thumb is you need 1.5x increase in refresh rate to really notice it

#

so 360 to 480 wont make much sense for you to upgrade to

#

but we ain't getting to 1000hz being normal and cheap without some silly steps inbetween

hard thicket
#

they should rather focus on high resolution high refreshrate panels, for those wanting the beauty of both worlds

ashen spindle
#

same thing for that though, easier to first increase resolution, then increase refresh rate instead of both at once

hard thicket
#

according to the article 4K 240hz are in development

ashen spindle
#

ye

timid chasm
#

So that would keep us set for a while for GPUs to catch up

ashen spindle
#

not really

hard thicket
#

with DLSS

ashen spindle
#

gpu are ramping up hard

hard thicket
#

that future is quite near

ashen spindle
#

Q4 2022 release will be insane

hard thicket
#

we are hitting 150 200 range already

#

at 4k

timid chasm
#

please

hard thicket
#

on demanding titles

ashen spindle
#

poor bandwidth starved connections

timid chasm
#

what actually does 4k 150-200 and looks decent without some ultra performance dlss bs

hard thicket
#

who said that things like DLSS won't improve over time ?

#

it's basically the future

dry tendon
#

DLSS itself no. But advanced upscaling techniques - alas they are a part of the future

ashen spindle
#

dlss itself yes, they might rename it but they won't throw away the data they got and try something completely else, since temporal solutions are needed

dry tendon
#

We need a neutral version of it that works for Intel and AMD too. Also we need it to not die when the Windshield of the Metro Exodus car is in view XD

ashen spindle
#

well yeah we might end up with something from intel that nvidia will make commits too or will get stuff reverse engineered or w/e

#

or dlss becomes open sou... OMEGALUL

Oh boy how apple has changed

wheat plume
#

IKR

#

TBF, a lot of Apple fans dont care as long as their device is really really thin

#

They care more about thin-ness than power and expandability

crisp granite
#

smh

#

you don't need thin

#

you need full travel mechanical switches

wheat plume
#

:P I type faster on my laptop chiclet keyboard than on my Wooting

astral haven
#

If a startup can make a product more repairable for cheaper at the same height, then it's just apple doesn't want it to be repairable...

#

Like it's .2mm taller...
Not 2mm
.2mm
And it has twice as many ports, including the option for USB a, full size displayport, and hdmi

#

Like now there's no excuse
Oh also the soc has direct active cooling, and power delivery capable of significantly more power than the m1

crisp granite
#

I just find it wildly uncomfortable

#

full travel or bust

astral haven

Me too
Mostly because my wooting is currently in a factory but shh

RE not using wooting

crisp granite

60%, ANSI, really shitty clickies that aren't tactile, noisy as fuck and get caught mid travel leading to...chattering, on an optoelectric switch

#

the only way it could get worse is if it stops working...wait

#

that would be good

an excuse to buy another keyboard

wheat plume

Apple, making a manual that shows exctly how their OS works

#

Wozzmon, LOL best OS name

wheat plume
#

Its a depressing world when a security cam's main feature is that it DOESNT need a monthly subscription fee

ashen spindle
#

or just most regular securit cams that still dont need that

pale sigil
#

Using an old phone for a security cam is silly

ashen spindle
#

or rather, almost none bar amazon and googles offerings work that way

pale sigil
#

It's only cloud ones that rely on fees

#

Make your own cloud

ashen spindle
#

or use no cloud

#

plenty of ways to make it work

pale sigil
#

I meant more of that was the appeal

#

For getting sub based ones

ashen spindle

ye but we're not at a point yet where it's so rare that you need to advertise it as a special point that it isn't cloud based subscription to work

Can i show off my 2tb ssd and 1tb nvme :3

timid chasm

69/420 or bust

wheat plume

(this is not showing my Linux SSD, cause Windows dont do that)

ashen spindle

lolol imagine not using 2tb nvme

smh

wheat plume

Imagine being able to afford one

#

smh

wheat plume

I would have gotten one otherwise

ashen spindle

yes you do

#

it's called pcie adapter card

wheat plume

Dont they slow it down a lot?

ashen spindle
wheat plume
#

?

ashen spindle
#

why would that be the case

pale sigil
ashen spindle
#

200 for 2tb nvme seems pretty affordable peepoShrug

wheat plume
#

Yeah, my sata one was almost was almost that much

pale sigil
#

£220-250

#

OK

#

Sure affordable lol

#

Oh there's one for £180

ashen spindle
#

I mean it's more or less the same $/GB as a 1tb drive

pale sigil
#

Wd blue

#

Ye but I want 2tb not 1tb

wheat plume
#

I may rebuild my PC at the start of next semester and reinstall my OS's
I want to plug the front case fan into a port it can be controlled with anyway cause it runs at 85% speed at all times currently

#

And install the 2TB SSD for more space

halcyon moss
astral haven

what's in the bag

crisp granite

:)

#

you'll find out soon enough

reef patrol
#

Pleb not trying hard enough 😄

crisp granite
#

...

#

I've ordered a 2tb SSD because I've filled up both of my 1TB ssds to the effective maximum of 70% capacity

#

and you struggle to...fill up half a terrabyte?

#

how?

#

...

#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

#

most games nowadays are huge

wheat plume
#

Until October of last year, I lived off of 256GB storage only for like 5 years

#

Now I have 1TB almost filled xd

crisp granite
#

my fallout new vegas files are larger than my cyberpunk files

#

maybe

#

just maybe

#

I've been hitting the mods too hard lately

dry tendon
#

or it WAS cheap

#

665p and 670P are well priced too (compared to the rest of the hardware space)

#

and before you ask - they are MORE than good enough for the average user

#

yes a power user should look for something MLC or at least highest end TLC drives

#

but for games / general users, these QLC drives with SLC and RAM caches (they have both) are JUST as good

astral haven
wheat plume
dry tendon
astral haven
#

Yea they don't smart fail they just up and die in OEM systems

dry tendon
#

despite taking hundreds of mods, multiple rage uninstalls of WoT, GTA V, RDR2, Metro Exodus, basically terabytes of games

#

That seems to be bad luck the way you describe it

#

or faulty units

#

I mean... it happens. I had 2 defective Ryzen 3600 CPUs

#

and I mean defective from the factory

#

no joke

astral haven
#

Bad luck among 5k drives over 2 years?

dry tendon
#

5K out of how many is the question tbh

#

5K by itself isnt enough info

#

Though I do indeed wonder what caused them to fail, if true. Likely not the cells. Software failure?

#

Yeah. WOrld of Bullshit

astral haven
#

I'm talking about an enterprise deployment here
When 5% of 20k new systems have SSD failures, and every single one of them is a 660p failing when only 1/4 of the systems had 660ps...

dry tendon
#

I will need a source on that Carmon. That is extremely suspicious. I am not saying it hasnt happened but Ive made dozens of systems with the 1TB or 2TB 660p. Nowadays I use the 665P though or the WD Blue (if cheaper)

astral haven
#

It was only around a thousand failures but that's still an insane amount
And it wasn't a single bad batch

dry tendon
#

and never ever seen an issue

astral haven
#

🤷‍♂️ you booting from it?

dry tendon
#

yes

astral haven
#

And you up to date on windows?

dry tendon
#

unless its a high-end system I use those SSDs yes. All my friends and many of the clients

#

Yes

#

obviously ;d

astral haven
#

🤷‍♂️ still compare the sample sizes

dry tendon
#

I cant. I dont know anything about your expeirence. I have reviews and my own XP here ;d

astral haven
#

All of the drives that you've encountered wouldn't change the statistics by 1 percentage point...

dry tendon
#

though for what its worth, I have phased out the 660p and am using the newer 665P or 670p instead

#

those are tougher and faster

dry tendon
astral haven
#

5% out of 20k
5k of them were 660ps
All of them that failed were 660ps

dry tendon
#

So what percent of the 660ps failed?

astral haven
#

20%

#

And that was in one year...

#

There were plenty of hynix and Samsung drives that had no problems...

#

And they were all identical systems just with different ssds from the OEM

dry tendon
#

Yeah id have seen that over the years for sure. IDK what to say, sounds weird to me.

#

I dont know why it might have happened

#

😦

astral haven
#

I don't either
What's even stranger is the guy said the hynix ssds were using the same controller
So it wasn't failing controllers...

#

I mean it could have been but that seems unlikely considering that year zero of the hynix died

#

To be fair that's only including ssds, they had significantly more hdds die than 660ps but that's expected

#

Other details,
The drives were full drive encrypted, and imaged twice generally over their lifespan
But same was true for the other ssds

reef tundra
#

Anything could suddenly fail catastrophically mm

#

Usually there is a threshold though where it either would have failed already or wont do that likely for the next decades.

astral haven
#

Bunch of deployed sn520s been perfectly fine tho...

#

And it wasn't the OEM version of the 660p it seems (the 6000 series variant) it was the straight 660p

dry tendon
#

Its a very popular game

dry tendon
#

it still is. over 2 million concurrent players (not all the time though) in total

#

so its more popular than CS GO for example

#

I cannot know that info. I suspect its mostly old accounts though since high tiers have more players

young pecan
#

I just purchased a 3060Ti for the farm and when I went to go pick it up it was a 3070.

#

I’m just gonna not complain about being given a 3070.

crisp granite
#

that's probably not much in the way of hash rate iirc

#

but in terms of actual...value for what geforce GPUs are actually meant for (gaming), yes

#

very good

young pecan
#

Good rate.

reef tundra
#

Would warn you in case you sell the thing, to make sure they have no legal claims to the goods anymore.

young pecan
#

shrugs I won’t sell it.

#

Be a stupid move anyway since it’s not an LHR model.

wheat plume
#

TIL there is a mechanical Switch controller

old marlin
#

uhhhh

#

why

#

seems like a terrible idea

thick elk
#

Using mouse switches I could understand but low profile keyboard ones, nope

old marlin
#

they didn't even use low profile switches

#

those are a weird mid profile

thick elk
#

Oh sorry meant lower profile

old marlin
#

yea

#

well

#

choc for example would be lower profile

thick elk
#

you really don't want a lot of travel on a controller

old marlin
#

but they just took ones with like 3mm of travel

#

idk why

#

btw

#

"arcade" switches

thick elk
#

Cool so the shoulder buttons of my handhelds use arcade switches

old marlin
wheat plume
#

Apparently the D-pad thumbstick comes off real easily :/

old marlin
#

I mean yea

#

not fixed in the middle or something

#

btw

#

you can't swap the switches

thick elk
#

of course

old marlin
#

like

#

you can

#

but you would have to get ones that use the same height etc

thick elk
#

desolder, open up, been there done that but I get what you mean.

old marlin
old marlin
#

mx switches don't fit

#

they use smaller ones

wheat plume
#

it's cheapness shows in some aspects dpad flies off mid game

thick elk
#

ah, still replacing springs should be possible providing you have the right springs, of course the selection of switches is pretty limited

old marlin
#

and then still only get whatever kailh made in that formfactor

thick elk
#

I am pretty sure if you look hard enough you can find other springs in the same form-factor.

old marlin
#

yea maybe

wheat plume
#

Nintendo: "Ah yes, Let us use TCP for online multiplayer, to ensure no packets get lost. That will totally give our players the best experience!"

reef patrol
ashen spindle
#

find me a single online game that doesn't use tcp or some custom variant of it...

wheat plume
#

?

ashen spindle
#

you made it sound like using tcp is a terrible choice for online games

wheat plume
#

Why would games use TCP?! It doesnt matter that much if some packets get lost

ashen spindle
#

yeah, doesn't matter if the host never gets the info that a client left for example...

#

there ain't a single game only running on udp xD

wheat plume
#

if you walking along a path in a map and a packlet gets lost, the game can assuem you still want to walk the same direction

#

it doesnt need to pause the whole game and request that packet once again

#

Which is what TCP would do

thick elk
#

that is implementation, not pure tcp vs udp

ashen spindle
#

you use what fits for the situation

halcyon moss
#

you can use both!

wheat plume
#

Yeh, but using TCP for the data transfer in an application that needs to happen in as close to real time as possible is a bad idea

ashen spindle
#

can't think of a online game that wouldn't use both

old marlin
#

where you could run into problems with desyncs

thick elk
#

you just use whatever suits the specific data you want to transmit.

ashen spindle
#

but you just said they use tcp, if you meant they use tcp for movement updates you gotta be more specific..

wheat plume
#

RN, on Switch's Multiplayer... the entire game freezes if a packet gets lost so it can spend that time to request that packet to be sent again

#

Thats a pretty crappy experience

old marlin
#

that just is bad netcode

#

and people having shit wifi

wheat plume
#

my wifi works fine on my games on computer

#

other than shitty ping

#

usually above 60ms

old marlin
#

but what about the other person

wheat plume
#

usually i only see 2-4 people max in a server with higher ping than me

ashen spindle
#

you said " use TCP for online multiplayer" as if that was abnormal, if they use it a a wrong place that results in bad netcode, but if you don't want to use tcp at all, your game is going to be really bad lmao

wheat plume
#

ok ok, yes, using TCP for movement data is a bad idea

#

you happy now?

old marlin
#

no

#

desyncs

#

just implement better netcode

#

which doesn't rely on having EVERY packet transferred immediatley

ashen spindle
#

the same way you can use udp and update checks to cover for lost packages, you can do in a similar way with tcp...

#

but you can make both variants in a bad way

old marlin
#

ideally you still want every package transferred

#

but with the switch people get super shitty connections

wheat plume
#

Doesnt help that the Switch has a crappy wifi card

#

its like 5 feet from my phone and only has one bar of signal strength

old marlin
#

doesn't matter

#

even if it has the worlds greatest wifi cards

#

still reliant on peoples mone connections

#

their APs

#

their houses in general

#

what other people on their connection are doing

wheat plume
#

🤔 well then

#

This is in the official nginx docs

thick elk
#

That does sound like a stupid thing to do

wheat plume
#

Yes

#

Yes indeed

#

Also, do not forget your / after the path name!

#

location /api/

#

Otherwise you can travel up to the parent directory!

thick elk
#

Thing is if you follow basically any tutorial they will either hammer on that point, or you are using a framework that makes sure you do.

halcyon moss
#

nginx is nice, but very footshootable

wheat plume

footshootable

#

I like that term :')

i like that :')

Dammit should have gone for liquid helium instead

crisp granite
#

that's the fucking point

#

it's stuff like this that makes me really question as to why we're survived this long as a species

wheat plume
#

^^ right?

timid chasm
#

obvs the issue is that the fans are pointing the wrong way

#

all intake

crisp granite
#

seriously, a PC is full of heat generating components...and the fans blow hot air out because...heat bad for system

timid chasm
#

I don't think you need to explain it to anybody here lol

crisp granite
#

yes

#

but also...

#

bruh

timid chasm

literally the reason Mansen posted it I imagine

crisp granite

yeah

reef tundra

Jiggle jiggle goes the air molecule

crisp granite

cut that sucker in half

😉

(I'm well aware that's not really dangerous at all)

#

reef tundra
#

heh, pc is making a spooky sound. Giving it a good old tactical slap seems to silence it. Probably some fan is bend and rubbing somewhere. Atleast it listens to my advanced technical ability.

crisp granite
#

XD

#

literally did that the other day because rear exhaust fan was doing just that

#

one open-handed spank fixed it

wheat plume
#

Mmm yes, spank that computer real well

solemn compass
#

i have a question, maybe someone here knows an answer for it. i just installed a AIO water cooler into my pc. (Corsair H100i RGB Pro XT) but the temperature it shows me in iCUE concern me a bit. Not sure if these in my eyes quite high temps are normal with my CPU (AMD Ryzen 7 3800X)

CPU idle: 47-57 (it slowly descends to 47 and shoots back to 57 out of nowhere constantly)
CPU load: 76 (through Cinebench)
The coolant temps are quite decent tho (idle 29.6, load around 30)

Btw I'm using 2 front fans for intake and the radiator + fans as outtake, this is not the best but I have an inverted case and I think this was the best solution.

#

are these temps too hot?

reef tundra
#

Its silicone 🤷 it tends to give little shit about heat. Unlike those pesky carbon based lifeforms

solemn compass
#

hahaha that's true but do you know if these temps are normal with this cpu. I have read that the ryzen cpu's output more heat. it also seems to strange to me that the temperature keeps fluctating with 10 degrees

old marlin
#

not silicone

#

one is a shiny rock

#

the other is used as a sealant for bathrooms

solemn compass
#

lol

reef tundra
#

mine runs fine at 70-80c max or something at full tilt. currently around 66c at 28% average use. 3 cores are doing most of the work lmao

#

As long as it doesnt need to thermal throttle to keep cool anything will do

solemn compass
#

true true, but if it doesnt run optimal with my new setup then it could be a problem with the pump or something

timid chasm
#

76C is what my 5800x maxes at with a 240 aio. Idle is ~42

#

Although I may have changed some pbo settings to reduce max temps. Can't remember 100%

#

Looks like my EDC hits its limit at max load so yeah probably did

wheat plume
#

You can have 16GB RAM but we suggest 64GB

#

72 cores pepesweat

reef patrol
#

To... compile?

wheat plume
#

From source

#

yes

reef patrol
#

Jesus christ. What are they compiling. The entire universe xD

wheat plume
#

ikr

#

They dont even give instructions on how to do this on mac or windows

#

just right into the Linux steps

ashen spindle
#

well that makes sense

#

or maybe not

#

who knows

wheat plume
#

Yesn't

ashen spindle
#

we don;t know what this is 😛

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah that's Chromium in a nutshell, intentionally made to be not compilable by mere mortals

wheat plume
#

This is Android from source xd

#

Not Chromium

crimson wigeon
#

Android too has bloated that much?!

#

I was building it in like an hour in a VM some years ago

ashen spindle
#

I mean it doesn't really mean much

#

72 cores of shit cpu still takes forever even if the build is tiny

wheat plume
#

100GB of source code?

#

wait what?

as always, if you just live post bits and pieces of something you watch or read, we have no clue what you are on about

wheat plume
#

When you pull down from the repo's master branch, it is about 100GB of stuff to download apparently

#

(the Android one)

empty wren
crimson wigeon
#

So you do a shallow clone..
unless the build system can't handle that for some stupid reason

wheat plume
#

This is what you end up with

reef tundra
#

Thats why you dont compile from the raw source.

empty wren
#

That is building support for your own device though

reef tundra
#

pre-compiling should alleviate most issues.

empty wren
#

Speaking of that A/AB firmwares exist and I think google offers a vanila one

#

DSU also exists but probably would need a firmware to work in a fifferent way

reef tundra
#

A lot of the work is keeping track of variables, scopes, and figuring out what it is allowed and what it means. Human syntax is not great for computers to parse

misty saffron
#

wtf kinda shit cpus is that

wheat plume
#

hmm

#

idk

ashen spindle
#

if it's a 5600x vs older gen epyc it could make sense

empty wren
#

Some people used the old threadripper for compiling

misty saffron
#

12 times (ideal) vs 4.5 times?

#

doesn't make much sense to me

reef tundra
#

It doesnt scale well. Especially when you get to the linking part.

ashen spindle
#

5ghz 6 cores vs 3ghz epyc chips? 72 cores also means it's at least dual cpu which isn't perfect scaling

#

idk, just too little information to make use of

wheat plume

I have never seen Dave so happy in my life :O <3

#

HAH YES Xd

wheat plume
#

Hmm....
100mb/s on a phone screen recording
Why... Xd

#

I tried it......

It didn't make the phone lag
But the video was pretty laggy when I was watching it back

reef tundra
#

Huh, the hell is it even supposed to refer to. Compression, resolution, framerate, audio, amount of change between frames, etc. Want to compress as much as you can get away with.

empty wren
#

Shoulda called it bitrate

wheat plume
#

I tried 1mb/s
It looks like shit xd

empty wren
#

Yeah 8 is pretty good for discord

wheat plume
#

Can't do 60fps though....
Maybe cause of my CPU in this phone

empty wren
#

Bruh

reef tundra
#

Does it just hint how much the compressor can work with? Is it even taking the compression in mind or raw data?

wheat plume
#

I think my previous phone could do 60fps since that had a Snapdragon 845

empty wren
#

Oh what does this one have?

wheat plume
#

Iirc 730G

empty wren

Here 🐼

empty wren
#

Technically you can always use a different one

wheat plume

I forgot how short the nav bar is on stock Android

The one in MIUI is so long xd

Yeah it ass in my opinion longer is better visually

wheat plume

Ass

empty wren

It looks terrible

I don't mind it

#

It does make things look kind of top heavy though

empty wren

Yeah, better no bar honestly

#

If done correctly

wheat plume
#

I like having the bar there

#

Mostly cause it raises the keyboard a little

empty wren
#

Ah hmm

wheat plume

I can turn it off if I want

empty wren

No bar

empty wren
wheat plume

I still see the bar

wheat plume

Oh wait that's the photos UI

empty wren

Inside of a lens scan

Inside of Google photos

Inside the UI

Inside of the ufs storage

wheat plume

Oof

#

Ok

empty wren
#

Technically I could raise the keyboard up

#

Chose to have it closer to my fingers at the bottom

wheat plume
#

Ooo ..
Your Gboard uses the new material design
Hmm....
That's neat

empty wren
#

Yeah wish the keyboard spacebar was less bubbly though

wheat plume
#

Idk if I like the combined , and emote button though

empty wren

Oh I just do not want a small spacebar ASSthetics

wheat plume

At least your spacebar is centered

empty wren

Yeah if I remove the emoji key

wheat plume

Oh

empty wren
wheat plume

Your screen is 16:9?

empty wren

18:9

wheat plume
#

Wot

empty wren
#

But I hid the notch

wheat plume
#

Oh

reef tundra
#

9:18* lul

wheat plume
#

I would hide the notch also but the rounded corners it adds aren't the same radius as the physical rounded corners on the bottom of the screen

empty wren
wheat plume
#

That mismatch annoys me

empty wren

Some people just want some good aesthetic

wheat plume

Idk if it shows it well on the screenshot

ashen spindle

empty wren
#

🤣🤣

wheat plume
#

Oh yeah... Threads exist

empty wren
#

If your screen on the bottom is about the radius of the top edge frame fair enough

wheat plume
#

It is when not hiding the notch

#

The fake round corners it adds are less radius than the real corners

empty wren
#

Hmm that makes sense honestly that sounds normal

#

Since most phones even if they do not cover the bottom bezel fully or close to that round the radii so much I want to vomit

reef tundra
#

#include "pthread.h"
#error "you like threading huh, pretty tiring stuff"

wheat plume
#

They removed the option to also move the status bar.... It's gone since updating to 12.5

empty wren

Move the status bar?

wheat plume

To be under the notch

reef tundra

New feature, removal of a feature

I jumped on the Insider to try out 11. It started giving me BSOD on login. So I rolled back to 10. And left the program.

Then I notice before shutting down an hour ago that it's trying to force 11 back onto the PC, even though I told it not to.

But yeah... a ton of command line fixes didn't work. But... reducing my diagnostics to Basic instead of Full did.

young pecan

Haven't heard a heap about em aside from sketchy QA.

I've heard they're great headphones, competitors to the Audeze LCD2. But the dude who makes them is a bit of an ass.

Aye, seen that as well.

chrome estuary

I don't really care personally. He can heil hitler or whatever all he likes as long as he makes a good product. These people are all aghast and acting like he's the fuckin anti-christ or something but they then go and buy shit from Amazon.

If you tell Zeos something was tuned to harman even when it isn’t he’ll hate it

The fuck? Why?

#

Harman curve is great.

astral haven
#

guy shilled harman so hard on many of his videos

neat oriole
#

Is that why he disliked the K371 because it was made to match the 2019 harman target curve

young pecan
#

I must have it.

#

Tasty af [citation needed], put it on pizza.

astral haven
#

he disliked the k371 because it was so much more expensive than the k361 for not much more...

neat oriole
#

I CBA to scroll through a 20 minute video but somewhere in it he’s like “but should these exist”

#

And you can tell through his videos over the time that his personal view is nothing is bad and anyone can like anything

astral haven
#

thats correct tho

neat oriole
#

I agree anyone can like anything but there are definitely good and bad

#

You can like bad things

#

People like the room

astral haven
#

bad is an opinion

#

and its also relative

neat oriole
#

No in audio there’s objectivity

young pecan
neat oriole
#

It’s not all subjective

young pecan
#

Bad is defo objective once it hits critical mass.

#

Kinda sorta.

astral haven
#

yes
accuracy is objective
however
good vs bad can be independent from objectivity

neat oriole
#

Like if something is grainy it’s just grainy and grainy is generally considered bad

astral haven
#

i think records sound great
they are objectively bad at reproducing sound tho but 🤷‍♂️

astral haven
#

and there are people who like grainy

neat oriole
#

Well yeah vinyls are worse, but it’s ok if you like them

astral haven
#

imo they are better than mp3

#

so uh

young pecan
#

Then there are the people that like Nightcore Beethoven.

#

No.

astral haven
#

lmao

#

i really like youtube 2x speed edm lol

neat oriole
#

What you’re hearing isn’t mp3 vs vinyl it’s likely different masters

astral haven
#

mostly because its the bgm on all the streams i watch

neat oriole
#

They tend to press higher quality maters into vinyl because it costs more

#

The same master, digital vs analog. Digital wins every single time

young pecan
#

Say in digital you have 192KB, that by definition is 192,000 bytes per second.

neat oriole
#

That’s not how it works

young pecan
#

Vinyl is technically whatever distance you have down to whatever scale the head can read.

neat oriole
#

To reach CD levels of dynamic range you would need a perfect vinyl made from diamond

astral haven
#

vinyl technically has a gigantic amount more data encoded in the record
its just useless because of the dynamic range limitation

#

thats a funny idea

#

read vinyl with a cd laser lol

young pecan
#

If your head can read down into the atomic range you'll frankly put any digital to utter shame if you can press something accurately enough.

astral haven
#

also that shouldnt be expensive tbh

#

lasers are really really cheap

young pecan
#

Not the kind you want for that.

#

Those lasers are stoopid expensive.

astral haven
#

nah there was a paper 2 years ago about using consumer grade lasers to make nanoscale measurements

young pecan
#

Stupid BS with producing high accuracy lenses.

astral haven
#

nah no lenses needed

young pecan
#

Srs?

#

Pog.

astral haven

A plain laser diode can easily measure sub-micron vibrations from centimeters away by self-mixing interferometry! I also show how this technique can be used for range-finding.

reef tundra
#

Vinyls suck, they wear out and for me lossless digital audio can reproduce the audio much more accurate than vinyl ever could by having to deal with physical phenomena such as thermal expantion/contraction. No ability to put parity checks or other data integrity checks to know if the data is also transmitted correctly. Analog signals could use differencial signals to make it more resiliant but in the end the receiver just has to hope it was done good enough

astral haven
#

reproduce yes

young pecan
#

Vinyls sound VERY warm and intimate.

astral haven
#

but its not about objectivity all the time

young pecan
#

If you enjoy warm music you'll love vinyls.

#

If you don't you'll hate it.

reef tundra
#

You can compare the data the master record has stored on it, and what you ended up at the speakers to see how it changed over the process

neat oriole
#

I mean people love the sound of a dirty vinyl, doesn’t mean it’s objectively better PES2_Shrug

astral haven
#

again not the point

#

good vs bad is not objective

young pecan
astral haven
#

good vs bad is an opinion and is thus subjective

neat oriole
#

Of course good vs bad is objective

astral haven
#

what

neat oriole
#

Enjoyable is subjective

astral haven
#

uuuuuuh

young pecan
#

But it's not objective.

astral haven
#

good is by definition subjective

young pecan
#

Boom. Nailed the addition.

#

The only time something is objective is when it's a universal truth.

#

This chair is not a cat. Objective by definition.

#

Gravity exists, this is a universal constant. Very objective.

astral haven
#

gravity is literally relative due to relativity

young pecan
astral haven
#

yup since its measurable and repeatable

young pecan
#

Objective as in a law of the universe that we can observe and detect (unless we look at quantum mechanics in which case different fundamental forces take over at that scale).

astral haven
#

objective as part of classical mechanics yes

#

the accuracy of an audio signal as relative to the master is objective
the quality of an audio signal as experienced as good or bad is not objective since its neither measurable or repeatable
its experiential

#

not experimental

reef tundra
#

You can turn it objective by measuring some data, making clear definations and thresholds, and using measurements and agreed upon limits/thresholds you can make objective claims under that system

astral haven
#

but then thats not the experienced quality of the signal
thats a measurement of the accuracy of the signal

#

if your opinion is that the quality of the signal depends on the accuracy measurements thats your opinion

#

but thats still
your opinion

young pecan
#

Which thereby makes it subjective.

I don't know if you saw but if you're worried about temps you can usually adjust your PBO settings in your BIOS to reduce temps a little. You can adjust them slightly for minimal lose in performance to get it a little cooler.

I'd also check your pump settings if your aio has them or if you use any monitoring software that supports it. I just happened to remember that my pump was fluctuating speed when I first got it so I set it to just run 100%.

solemn compass

Oh, it changed arrangement once more, even worse this time…

Ayy it's in New Jersey. Hopefully it's here early next week.

shadow minnow

Why?

reef tundra

Cant crash then, or get your data stolen.

shadow minnow
#

Tbh for me it’s more convinient, at least on macOS. Also since I would have had full desktop, instead there are “app groups” based on what type of file/app it is. Not that I didn’t use spotlight most of the time. Had worse experience with searching app on windows though. Not sure, will find out as soon as replacement mobo and cpu finally get here

#

That sucks. Tbh for me it’s just thing of convenience. Sure, most of files should be elsewhere, but rather have less of wallpaper visible and shortcuts for most of apps than having to go to files and find the apps there. If at least windows search worked well.

Hope windows 11 will bring some improvements to that. Also not sure what do I think of UI elements like time and wifi on bottom. Pretty sure though that I am not a fan of windows still having 1999 like exe installers, square shaped stuff and close buttons.
And also, is there any way to have more “screens” where you have different apps, something you can switch between with f3 on macOS.

wheat plume
#

Maybe

ashen spindle

well for one they said insider builds dont yet have all features so that might just come later

#

and reasons for upgrade would be for example if you want to use android applications directly, or once you have one of the never cpu's with hybrid design

shadow minnow
#

Tbh as a mac user till when replacements arrive, the UI on windows just seems to be worse In so many ways to me.

wheat plume
#

Nah, MacOS is a lot smoother and consistent

That is why Windows 11 is copying it :P

for the new Action Center and system tray applet

shadow minnow
#

Is not a big part of the new windows 11 UI also browser based?

wheat plume
#

Apparently yes

#

its uses Edge

shadow minnow
#

Also tbh not a fan of the security. Since I sometimes play modded stuff, and windows just saying that app wants to make changes in pc every time I open it does not make me feel that safe. Why does it not just ask for exact permissions it needs, for me to allow or not to allow each one, like on macOS.

wheat plume
#

Or like Android

crimson wigeon
#

Because developers rejected UWP which has that kind of control

#

And Microsoft unlike Apple doesn't dare to boss developers around and force them to use the new stuff

wheat plume
#

Yeah

shadow minnow

Even not forcing them, if Microsoft at least told you what exactly wants the app to do would be nice.

Full face mask with all the filtering markings on them. hehe

#

Would need an breathing assistance system. Those filters are tough to breath through. But it will keep you safe from most chemicals you can be exposed to

shadow minnow

Not that hard to breath through imo tbh.

nah, too much effort

I just cant stand to look at it cause its 768P and the aspect ratio is wrong

I had the same issues on my Xbox but luckily on that, some games let you change the screen edges

#

and the Wii
