Personally I find these modular connectors to be a bit of a gimmick, as they do take up more space, they could have gone with a sane default instead and would have had more IO.
want 2 usb a, a sd port and of course the mandatory charge port: no external display for you. Want ethernet and 2 external displays? no more usb for you
Granted there are laptops with worse io but even at the form factor they could have gone for something more space efficient.

Just comparing it to my current laptop, it has vga, hdmi, 3x usb-a, sd slot, ethernet. Or even the cheap tablet-pc I got has more io (microsd, micro-hdmi, 2x usb-a, usb-c, separate charge port)
If it had 6 expansion ports it would be a different story but 4 is just not a lot

Thats how any modern computer system has been designed. PCIe as the backbone provided by the CPU (or by the chipset but it just arbitrates and splits the lanes taken from the cpu into more lanes)and any other subsystem has to deal with converting its specific protocol to PCIe. (or to another bridge that allows it to reach that magic lanes).

If I would design a laptop with modules, I would make sure there is a baseline IO config for most uses and then add maybe one expansion bay for different use-cases.

Well, 1. I think I need to show what happens over time. 2. I need to prove x happens over y time or atleast the trend.
It does not need to be that accurate, just a trend basically. But % change values are nice to include, so I can say there is around 30% or 50% drop in element amount in mg/kg over y time.

What if you use a table, and use colour to emphasise change. (gray= no (significant) change, red=decrease compared to previous data point or startingpoint, green=increase ...). One axis has all the relavent chemicals and the other the values over time. With the cell itself having the value?

My conclusion.
Sure - Microsoft may have decided to use a short and relatively unpopular M.2 length, and decided to put it in the middle of an ASS technician time.
But it's still a lot better than having a main drive that is literally SOLDERED to the motherboard, and which will likely brick the console if dead, no matter if you have a secondary NVME installed or not.
Also the Xbox doesn't look like ass. 😄
