Ideally, you need an adapter to raise the fan (to minimize the dead area from the motor hub), some pressure so that the air moves without "dying off", in this case, it's much easier, and lots of cfm indeed.
It should be able to work, but you will still have much better performance from a real heatsink made for active cooling, like the NH-D15 and a high pressure, high cfm Delta fan.
