Smh why do so many people you could fit anything 3d in your pocket if it was 4d lul

reef tundra
#

Only if you can move in 4D

cursive summit
#

Chevo

shadow minnow
#

That you can’t put anything 3d, like fridge in a 4d pocket (with fourth dimensions being infinite) for imo a pretty obvious reason lul

reef tundra
#

That would be acceptable

#

we already have points as a concept

#

dimensionless points

#

For me I just call the 4th dimension time. As it makes the 4th dimension less abstract to think about

#

Have not done much work with 4 dimensional mathematics, though. So might one of those methods of good enough in the field but not in its most technical sense

astral haven
#

4 spacial dimensions is very different from 4 time dimensions

#

If something has no breadth into the 4th spacial dimension like all of our 3d objects, you could fit an infinite amount of them by just stacking them in 4d

shadow minnow
#

What you could not do is put 1000 fridges in your pocket lul

astral haven
#

For example you have absolutely no trouble drawing as much as you want on every single page in a book without affecting the other pages

#

The problem wouldn't be fitting the fridge

shadow minnow
#

It would

#

For a simple reason

#

Fridge has 3 dimensions

#

4 dimensional pocket gives you one infinite dimensions

#

You still need to fit at least two of the dimensions somewhere

astral haven
#

You could 100% fit as many fridges as you want

shadow minnow
#

You would need 6d to fix that

astral haven
#

No

shadow minnow
#

Yes

astral haven
#

You only need 1 extra spacial dimension to fold a lower dimension object into it

shadow minnow
#

Well I can give you an example why that’s not really right in this context

#

Let’s say you have a 2d object like paper

#

(Not fully 2d but thinner than thinnest defined max dimension in this example)

astral haven
#

Sure let's assume 2d paper

#

Paper with 0 thickness

shadow minnow
#

Without folding it you can’t just put it into nowhere looking from bottom. If you put it vertically you may get rid of one axis, but you still have it horizontally and thus ā€œvisibleā€ from bottom

astral haven
#

Fold the paper

shadow minnow
#

What if it’s metal?

astral haven
#

In the 3rd dimension

shadow minnow
#

You can’t just fold everything without ā€œbreaking itā€

astral haven
#

A 2d object has no properties in the 3rd dimension

#

If it does, it's not a 2d object

#

It's a "very thin 3d object"

shadow minnow
#

2d object in 3d dimension is never fully 2d

ashen spindle
shadow minnow
#

It can have zero thickness

astral haven
#

That's not true ikas

astral haven
reef tundra
#

Just like we have points with no dimensions just coordinates

shadow minnow
#

The basic thing is that 3 dimensional object needs to be in 4 dimensions. If you have 4 and only the fourth is infinite what about the two others?

astral haven
#

Ikas

#

Circle on paper

#

How much 3d space does it take up?

#

Aka how much volume

#

Say it has an area of 1m²

#

You need 3d to be able to actually understand what's going on

shadow minnow
#

The thing is that you don’t need volume. You could stack stuff but only if you had at least one dimension right. 2d objects can only really be stacked on one place no matter it’s base properties of two dimensions only in 4d

reef tundra
#

not enough information or if you assume the new dimension is 0 long then the volume becomes 0.

shadow minnow
#

Even if you put the circle vertically it still has width

#

And you can’t just ignore it

astral haven
#

No ikas
You can fit infinite circles in 3d

shadow minnow
#

That depends

astral haven
#

No it literally doesnt

#

Thats one of the fundamentals of calculus

shadow minnow
#

Not if circle diameter is 4cm and you have 2cm.2cm.infinite space

#

Circle is two dimensional, 3d with one infinite thus only covers one dimension

reef tundra
#

oh, if you give it anything more than the new dimension of 0 it becomes a cyllinder

astral haven
#

Ikas

#

By your logic you would require 4d to have infinite circles

shadow minnow
#

If you had such a limitations yes

#

That’s exactly what I mean

astral haven
#

That is mathematically incorrect

#

You need to take calculus again
It's one of the very basics of limits

shadow minnow
#

Depends. It being in 3d space where two axis are limited is also kinda incorrect

astral haven
#

No

#

Math ikas

#

This is math

#

That can be proven

#

If you took calculus you would know this

reef tundra
#

2D object in 3D world has to have the new dimension to be 0. Otherwise it turns into a 3d object. Is that the idea?

astral haven
#

I know it's been 10 years since I did calculus but I remember my limits at least

ashen spindle
#

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4EgbgTm0Bg maybe this will help as it's going at it from a very different approach but still comes with a good dimensional understanding if you can follow it

shadow minnow
#

That’s also math. Also the thing is that it’s not really possible to prove since you can’t get fully 2d object in 3d space or fully 3d object in 4d space

astral haven
#

Mathematically you can

reef tundra
#

In mathematics you assume your life in the perfect world where it can happen

astral haven
#

Well no

#

Mathematics makes no assumptions

#

You are thinking of physics

shadow minnow
#

Well, sometimes it does but quite rarely

astral haven
#

No

#

That's a fundamental part of mathematics

shadow minnow
#

I mean usually not the core maths, but some simplified stuff has some assumptions, but yeah, the core does not

astral haven
#

If it's actually a theorem it's making no assumptions

shadow minnow
#

The thing that can be just an assumption is how to translate some values into other stuff

reef tundra
#

Mathmatics has to make assumtions to work. You cannot make a system of mathmatics that will never be able to be proven to be fully coherrrent with itself

astral haven
#

Those two statements are opposing pincus

astral haven
shadow minnow
#

I mean not in maths itself but in how people understand some aspects of it

astral haven
#

Say you convert your unit into an actual measurement then you have to make the assumption that the unit functions

#

No, that's called physics ikas

shadow minnow
#

There is no assumption in math itself but in the way people see it there is, different for each individual. There always are assumptions. You come to a number and assume it’s something, you are wrong. It’s your assumption, not assumption in maths but still an assumption. But nvm, back to the point

astral haven
#

Applied math is called physics
And an argument could be made that non applied math doesn't matter,
But non applied math exists

#

Dimensionality is a mathematical concept not a physical one according to calculus

shadow minnow
#

What in calculus makes you able to fit 2d object with for example 2.3 into 1.1.infinite, or another example

astral haven
#

Folding

#

I personally don't know the math because it is complicated but you can fold an object into a higher dimension

reef tundra
#

oh, its actually that mathmatics will have true statements that cannot be proven

astral haven
#

No

shadow minnow
#

The thing is that folding is folding

#

Of course you can fold

#

But without folding

#

You can’t really do it

astral haven
#

Its proven that there are true statements that can't be proven, but those don't get inducted into mathematics itself at least not really

astral haven
shadow minnow
#

And if folding into another dimension would or would not have effect onto the object is discutable. Not that it matters since you can’t get a fully 2d object in 3d

astral haven
#

Well thing is you can
I mean that's semantics because anything 2d doesn't actually qualify for the definition of object

#

But 2d things can and do exist

shadow minnow
# astral haven Ok so how would you be unable to fold?

Basically you don’t retain shape of something when folding is the point, it’s no longer the same or even 2d object since you fold it into 3rd dimension. It’s just discutable, what I am saying is that you can’t do it with unchanged 2d. You could, but only in 4d most likely

astral haven
#

That's not true at all tho

shadow minnow
#

Again I am talking without folding

astral haven
#

Mathematically a teacup is identical to a donut

shadow minnow
#

And in the case of two dimensions being smaller

#

Than the ones of object

#

(Limiting dimensions)

astral haven
#

Ikas
You do not understand.
I can't teach you all of calculus and theoretical physics.
But what I can tell you is that you have incorrect information

ashen spindle
#

are you talking about practical use case of how simple it would be to put N-dimension objects into a n+1-dimension world, or just about the theory? because the theory is very easy and obvious

astral haven
#

Quin the part ikas doesn't understand is folding in a higher dimension has no effect in the lower dimensions

ashen spindle
#

yeah but I wonder if he didn't even mean that part and was just unclear in expressing what he originally meant

astral haven
shadow minnow
#

Basically I am talking about it without any changes, so also not folding, essentially altering dimensions. Even if it had no effect on other properties

shadow minnow
astral haven
#

Yeah basically it's the uncanny valley, if you learn to little you think oh it's easy just push it in there
If you learn a bit you realize oh wait you need to fold
And if you learn more you learn that's not a problem (if you can manipulate in 4d ofc lmao)

#

It's very possible we have no way from converting 3d energy to effect along the 4th spatial dimension and then we are boned lol

shadow minnow
#

I mean even the basic concept of 4d is so hard to imagine for humans

astral haven
#

Yup

#

The playbox is fantastic

#

And there was another 4d demo that really helped me understand this stuff

shadow minnow
#

Basically all the not hardest imaginations you can have are based on how 2d to 3d is

astral haven
#

Yup

#

So you actually need a 3d visualization to push into dimension 4

shadow minnow
#

Actually don’t think I have seen many demos of anything like that, most of them just created in my head lul

astral haven
#

Which might be where the misconception came from

#

The toybox is fantastic if you have a VR headset

shadow minnow
#

Well, it might, but I still believe it is not misconsemption and it’s not really possible to prove so I guess it’s a possibly wrong theory lul

astral haven
#

Well no
Again mathematics vs physics

shadow minnow
#

It’s also definition of the stuff, and folding. The thing is that I counted folding as altering in some way. I am not saying it’s not possible with folding, but without folding

astral haven
#

Spatial dimensions exist mathematically
A 4th spacial dimension of the same variety as our current 3 would act this way

#

Again it's a misunderstanding of what folding in a higher dimension is

#

There's a fantastic video that talks about flatlanders that I can't find right now

ashen spindle
#

there are some non-provable truths and such in math that is correct and I think this video did a good job at explaining it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeQX2HjkcNo but otherwise math is quite clear on these things without "issues" and "wrong theories"

Not everything that is true can be proven. This discovery transformed infinity, changed the course of a world war and led to the modern computer. This video is sponsored by Brilliant. The first 200 people to sign up via https://brilliant.org/veritasium get 20% off a yearly subscription.

#

anything beyond as carm says is physics at not math anymore

astral haven
#

Well no
There are people who argue that those truths are part of mathematics, and there are those that dont

shadow minnow
#

Anyways, enough of complicated stuff, let’s go to something simple. How would a human vision work and how would you have to see to see properly in 4d lul

astral haven
#

I fall in the "don't" category

#

Human vision wouldn't work

#

We would require downconverters of some kind to rasterize the 4d world into 3d

shadow minnow
#

And also all the physics stuff and properties in 4d

#

And the fact ā€œthat basically allā€ things would have to be to some extend 4d in 4d space same as it’s in 3d space with 3d things.

astral haven
#

Those are a problem for us when we find a way to prove the existence of that dimension
There are experiments that suggest against there being 4d but nothing proven yet

#

Basically the fact that things don't extend into 4d is somewhat a proof that 4d doesn't exist

#

Because we can prove that most properties don't extend into 4d

#

Specifically electromagnetism doesnt

shadow minnow
#

I mean even I’d it does not exist, question remains how would it look like if it would exist

astral haven
#

And neither do the strong or weak force

reef tundra
#

There are just going to be situations where the rules might be known but the proof cannot be given

shadow minnow
#

Because even world not being 4d does not mean 4d could not theoretically exist

#

But that’s all just theoretical and theories with no way to prove them then

astral haven
#

We can prove that we can't affect a theoretical 4tj dimension

#

Prove that and it's pretty much moot if dim 4 exists or not

shadow minnow
#

That’s true. But we can imagine how would it be if it would exist which it basically very likely does not.

astral haven
#

Yes but if we can prove it doesn't exist then we would be able to say it looks like nothing because there's no medium to convert information from 4d

#

If we prove we can't affect it I mean

shadow minnow
#

But tbh my opinions are kinda, I don’t fully believe in schrodingers theory fully too tbh, just think that there are not yet discovered properties and dependencies, and only issue is that people have no way to calculate them since you would have to start ā€œcalculatingā€ and observing everything in universe before it started to be able to get every information about t most likely, so I just kinda see schrodingers theory as ā€œcoverā€ for people not knowing something and don’t really believe In alternative realities tbh. But may very likely be wrong here, just what I think lul

astral haven
#

unfortunately quantum mechanics is real and has been proven

#

if you are talking about the dead cat

#

because the dead and not dead cat can be physically proven without particularly impressive equipment

shadow minnow
#

I mean, the thing is that there is no way to prove it completely since you would have to see the atoms from start, which was before humans starting observing them. But quantum physics is real since there is basically no way for humans to do anything else.

#

But also even though I really don’t think that’s the case, imagine if black holes were actually 4d, and that was the thing making them fit everything into it, making them dark and so heavy
But yeah that makes no sense lul

astral haven
#

Also again misunderstanding a basic concept

astral haven
#

Observation is a physical phenomena

shadow minnow
#

Which thing? The black hole thing is more of a joke and not something I actually think

astral haven
#

observation itself

#

and black holes are just a thing that happens when gravity exists

reef tundra
#

a whole lot of it

astral haven
#

well
when the gravity that makes 9.81m/s exists

shadow minnow
astral haven
#

schrodinger's cat is a very fundamental part of quantum physics 🤷

reef tundra
#

More simplifies the concept of observation means change

astral haven
#

basically yea

#

more technically id use the word "interaction"

reef tundra
#

More simplifies the concept of observation interacts to change the observed?

astral haven
#

I mean that's not exactly making anything simpler lmao

reef tundra
#

šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø You said you would use interaction. So thats a change to include that word

astral haven
#

Observation is interaction, in physics they are interchangeable

shadow minnow
#

When talking about simplifying why not to just straight up talk about how would it be 6th dimension instead of 4th to simplify lul

astral haven
#

Because it wouldn't be

#

Just the same as the volume above my screen is 3d is constantly changing but in 2 dimensions the screen is static

There's a whole chain of tweets from HU, so open twitshit

young pecan
#

So basically this translates into ā€œWe fucked up and said things too directly, we’ll use a smokescreen from now onā€. Cool.

#

Eeeh nah.

#

They overextended and fucked up with HU.

#

Nothing will change except their internals, they’ll be exactly the same but they’ll keep a tight lid on things for now until it blows over.

ashen spindle
#

ok they said they are dropping using that marketing branch, what else do you want them to do? give free monitors to people? xD

shadow minnow
#

I mean I would not complain if I was one of the people lul

young pecan
#

Think they have? They’ll just collapse it into something else and rebuild it.

#

That’s what companies do as a whole, they always just take a step sideways while calling it a step back.

ashen spindle
#

ok but aside from the obvious needing to wait if it actually fixed issues

#

what else should they have done

#

if this is apparently not enough

young pecan
#

Actually changed their policies and become respectable?

#

No company will ever do that, but you asked for the optimal.

#

sigh Maybe I’m just a cynic. That could be it.

ashen spindle
#

but they literally posted a log of what they said changes going forward??

young pecan
#

Yes, they posted changes.

#

I’ll remain sceptical until things actually do change, and more importantly I’ll watch for the upcoming bullshit.

#

No corporation will actually reign themselves back by choice, I think. They’ll look for other bullshit to do, just like usual.

ashen spindle
#

and wanting to see they do what they say is fair, but you can't really complain if there isn't actually any further step they can do at this point

#

bit weird to complain they dont have 5 years of trust build up after a day right? šŸ˜›

young pecan
#

Not complaining about their current step, I’m extremely sketchy on their motivation to stay on the decent road.

young pecan
#

Trusting a corporation is how you get burned. Common sense 101 is to not trust those that don’t want to care about your existence.

#

Especially avoiding trust with entities that only care about your wallet. You hold them at arms length because anywhere else and out comes the shiv.

ashen spindle
#

sure, but even a healthy ammount of cynism shouldn't warrant calling it lacklustre when they did pretty much all they could at this point

young pecan
#

I don’t praise someone for undoing an obvious fuck up that shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

#

That’s what I expect as a baseline.

#

Shit on my carpet and I’m not going to thank you for wiping it off.

ashen spindle
#

not really expecting praise for it obviously, but both your and ikas comments really were more in a negative way than just acceptance

young pecan
#

Yep. I don’t trust the other shoe not to drop. If they hold and stay good for a long while I’ll stop expecting it.

#

They’ve proven to have a track record of trying to sidestep responsibility, that alone makes me actively not trust shit all they say.

ashen spindle
#

and that is fully fine but dont express it sounding in a way that suggests what they did is lacklustre when there wasn't more they can do at this point šŸ˜„

young pecan
#

I’ll give you that.

ashen spindle
#

scepticism isn't equal to being negative about something šŸ˜›

#

our grandchildren will really enjoy MicroLED

astral haven
#

QLED bypasses physics limitations of lcd tech where microled does not

dry tendon
#

This modern American/Japanes work ethic too.

#

MicroLED when?

#

I accept slavery for MicroLED mage

stuck elk
#

Now i see. But you can combine nanocrystals with microled right?

astral haven
#

Sure QLED is just a stepping stone on the way to qdel but it's an important stepping stone

stuck elk
#

Qdel?

astral haven
#

Nanoparticles

stuck elk
#

Ok

#

So nanoparticles are the next step?

astral haven
#

Current QLED is a layer of nanoparticles on top of a normal lcd

#

Some of the nanoparticles may be nanocrystals but that's not a requirement

stuck elk
#

Ok, and we now need also the lcd to be micro led

astral haven
#

Well no

stuck elk
#

Also what is qdel

astral haven
#

I'm pretty sure that every microled has had a qdef on it

#

So QLED means lcd with a quantum dot enhancement film

#

Or lcd with qdef

#

Next step is pure quantum dot

reef tundra
stuck elk
astral haven
#

Quantum dot

stuck elk
#

How does that work

astral haven
#

Qdel means electroluminescent quantum dots

stuck elk
astral haven
#

Where you trigger the quantum dots with electricity instead of light

#

Well no

#

If QLED was just filtering it wouldn't be interesting at all

stuck elk
astral haven
#

What QLED actually does is it converts between different frequencies of light

#

But it takes light as an input

stuck elk
#

I see

astral haven
#

Yup

stuck elk
#

So it doesnt filter but takes the backlight LED and turns it into different frequencies

#

While IPS LCD only filters with liquid crystals

astral haven
#

A qdef screen can be basically 3 layers, 2 for the TFT and one for the actual light part

#

OLED requires a minimum of like 7 with lcd requiring a minimum of like 15

stuck elk
#

TFT?

stuck elk
astral haven
#

The thing that brings the electricity to the pixels

stuck elk
#

Ok

astral haven
#

Is called the TFT layer

stuck elk
astral haven
#

Light part being the part that creates the image

#

The light part of qdel is 1 single layer

stuck elk
#

So the part nearer you the observer

astral haven
#

Doesn't mean that

stuck elk
#

The ones formed by quantum dots

#

Wich then

astral haven
#

Just the part interacting with photons

stuck elk
#

Wich part is it

astral haven
#

The quantum dots themselves

stuck elk
#

The one i tought then

#

So it will not even be microled, just quantum dots and electricity

astral haven
stuck elk
#

Ok

astral haven
#

Yup

stuck elk
#

Intresting. And it will help with pixels response time i imagine?

astral haven
#

I suspect the final quantum dot panels are gonna be mirror, quantum dots, tft

#

Nope that's not helped vs oled

#

Qdel is just supposed to be cheaper oled but has the possibility of not breaking down

stuck elk
#

But if this technology is not here yet, how can you say it wont have better performance then OLED

astral haven
#

Theoretical perfect of oled and qdel are the same

#

Qdel might be easier to get there but so far all we have is "probably similar for cheaper"

#

The limiting factor tbh ATM is the TFT anyways

stuck elk
#

And what is oled instead

#

What backlight does it have, led, miniled or microled

astral haven
#

Oled

#

There's no backlight

stuck elk
#

And is it liquid crystal? How does that work

stuck elk
astral haven
#

Yup

stuck elk
#

And what about the crystals

astral haven
#

Oled doesn't use crystals

#

It uses polymers

#

And polymers aren't durable

#

They break down over time

stuck elk
#

Would you say quantum dots are superior? Maybe we can improve quantum dots in the future, maybe they can be smaller or anyway different

astral haven
#

The point of quantum dots is they are alot easier to manufacture

stuck elk
#

So using ectricity is better then using microled

#

Anyway

astral haven
#

Yes

stuck elk
#

Nice

astral haven
#

Qdel can have the perfect stats of oled without the durability concern

stuck elk
astral haven
#

And quantum dots are fairly easy to manufacture in bulk, where oleds have to be manufactured directly on the panel

#

Samsung is right now producing qd-oleds

stuck elk
#

Yes was thinking about that

#

They are speaking bullshit, because OLED has no backlight while qdOLES has?

astral haven
#

Basically using the most efficient light producing oled for every subpixel regardless of color then using quantum dots to convert it to the correct color

#

Qdoled doesn't have a backlight

#

QLED has a backlight

stuck elk
astral haven
#

Yup

#

Polymer oleds but yes

stuck elk
stuck elk
astral haven
#

Yeah nanosys is one of the names in quantum dots

stuck elk
#

Nice

#

Thanks for making things clearer for me

astral haven
#

Well actually

#

No it's not enhancing at the end

#

It uses blue oleds only

#

Then some of the blue oleds get converted into red and green by quantum dots

stuck elk
astral haven
#

yeppo

stuck elk
#

:)

#

So its an even better backlight then microleds, but still a backlight

astral haven
#

no

#

the oled is the layer that is on or off

#

backlight means theres a light, then a layer that decides if a pixel is on or off

stuck elk
#

Depending on wheter that area/pixel is black or not

astral haven
#

yes

#

each individual pixel has 3 oleds behind it

#

and each oled has a different quantum dot in front of it

stuck elk
# astral haven yes

Microled and miniled are a step behind and are not on/off for every pixel, but for every area

#

Right?

astral haven
#

miniled yes

#

microled can be per pixel like in the wall

#

and the wall doesnt use a backlight it just uses raw microleds

stuck elk
#

Ok. So we are at a good point with qdoled, just behind qdel

#

so...does it matter if it can run games?

#

don't wear em

crush the jewels too much

Just buy the gt 710, the best graphics card on the markt right now

aw shit

Why is it in Germanic? Barbarian..

ashen spindle
#

yeah because everyone cares about RT performance in nvidia optimized games kek

#

I'll go and enjoy my higher fps for less money and less powerdraw in the other 40 hours of games I play a week

Why is it missing metro exodus enchanced in that list. šŸ¤”

#

Also isnt dlss made to help with that, still. Why the rage boner for 2060?

cursive summit
#

He's trolling lul

#

Also you kinda don't want any kind of AA in a game like Siege

#

That's what you want in a competitive shooter

#

Just get a 4K display

halcyon moss

"just"

If you dare to push RTX, you might as well have cash

Fuck do you need RTX for

AMD Radeon RX 6600M tested, competes with GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU AMD introduced its Radeon RX 6000M series based on RDNA2 architecture before Computex 2021 just earlier this month.Ā  Initially, we have only seen reviews of the Radeon RX 6800M GPU which is now offered with ASUS ROG Strix G15 gaming laptop. Is this one also memory speed starved?

#

Can you FSR DLSS? lul

#

5x the FPS

#

Double the filter for double the fps

ashen spindle
#

yet it already looks better than dlss' first implementation

#

idk anything dlss before the 2.0 demo was just bad

#

or I guess anything before the 1.9 in control to be fair

#

yeah and it didn't get better in that time kek

zenith sonnet
#

FSR probably won't be as sharp as DLSS 2.0 in still pictures
But it can't have temporal artifacting by design

Control, metro, and no man's sky

Then just turn it off

It's not possible to turn off ta

zenith sonnet
#

That's not an issue with FSR though. That's on the game, then

astral haven
#

It would prevent a ton of effects from working including most forms of advanced antialiasing and texture filtering

#

You've gotta understand that rasterizing is a very complicated process

#

Any messing with it is very very jank

#

If you told a film executive you could render their film in half the time but you couldn't use Houdini simulations you would hear their laughing even after you exited the elevator on the bottom floor

zenith sonnet
#

Why would you not be able to turn it off? I have plenty of games where it's an option.

crimson wigeon
#

Because sadly many modern rendering techniques abuse the blurryness of it to cover up for other effects

#

Like say reflections, they might be annoyingly noisy without the TAA blurrghosting

zenith sonnet
#

Well, I still miss the times of crisp, sharp graphics like Gothic 2 had

crimson wigeon
#

I hate TAA so much it makes visuals so fucking blurry and the ghosting artifacts are shitty to look at

#

And yet developers think it's a-ok because people seem to just accept it now?

#

After ridiculing FXAA for being a blur filter while TAA is 10 times worse
