#

so this is interesting... i seem to have resolved my font issue temporarily (by installing liberation-fonts), but I would prefer to fix it correctly. It's specific to firefox only, no issues with gtk+2 apps or urxvt/rxvt-unicode.

#

There's something odd about it too. It's characters from 0-9, the # and *, and bolded/italic fonts. Installing the other font makes everything work fine (even if i'm not using it!).

#

Websites which provided their own fonts obviously worked.

#

It's not the pango deprecation either (package is 1.42)

#

fontconfig was played with no results. cache was cleared and reset, xorg.conf fonts path was also messed with, no results.

OMFG

I go on amazon and honey tells me about this coupon code xd

pale sigil

thanks

pale sigil

i do want one tho

o?

reef tundra

x86 biggest advantage is legacy support

misty pier

cat5 coil or something?

pale sigil
#

XD

reef tundra
#

Unless your ISP gives you more than 1 public ip. It wont work.

pale sigil
#

its fine

#

i knew it i was just checking really

#

F

#

forgot my ubuntu password

#

for ssh

#

xD

reef tundra
#

lol

pale sigil
#

And i have no hdmi

#

nvm

#

login was ubuntu

#

xD

#

toasty

pale sigil
#

everything is so fast

#

when you use rpi

#

pihole

#

💪

reef tundra
#

So many requests to steal your identity

pale sigil
#

so toasty

reef tundra
#

That is a fine temp

pale sigil
reef tundra
#

you dont need to grill stuff on it

#

Maybe you can save some performance by disabling the xorg if you dont need an graphical display and it autoruns

pale sigil
reef tundra
#

Saving her from the braindrain that is tiktok

pale sigil
reef tundra
#

Once seen the feed what my sister has and it is just loud = funny meme, stock effect = funny meme, genocide bad(how brave), random = funny meme, animals clips, other random shit

pale sigil
#

When i get money again i think ill get the 4gb version

reef tundra
#

The raspberry 4 also has an pcie lane i think. on the chip, but you can add some components and have use it (1x).

pale sigil
#

might get something like this

reef tundra
#

You can also get a passive heatsink

pale sigil
#

aye

#

just the case oo

#

too

reef tundra
#

it sits mighty and proud

pale sigil
#

but it has a lower temp

#

higher

#

i mean

#

in results

#

that is adorable

misty pier
#

im getting this for my pi

pale sigil
#

dayum amazon

reef tundra

Test 2: 15x15x6.7mm Heat Sink, Fan, Thermal Tape
Result: 46°C at 3:00

Test 3: 15x15x6.7mm Heat Sink, No Fan, Thermal Paste
Result: 72°C at 3:00

Test 4: Oversized (44 x 25 x 30mm) Scrap Heat Sink, No Fan, Thermal Paste
Result: 47°C at 3:00

they used wrong image for test 3 lol

#

Amazon really want to diddle your data

pale sigil
#

hmm

#

i need to renew my entire network somehow

#

as devices already connected

#

wont seem to work with pi

misty pier
#

its always amazon

astral haven
#

you have a power switch right 😛

pale sigil
#

what site

#

rebooting the router doesn't re assign ips

#

i dont think?

#

or well

#

re issue

astral haven
#

probably should

pale sigil
#

k

#

brb

reef tundra
#

Rebooting router will force it to assign new addresses

#

But if you have done that you would know how to reassign the local ip adresses

pale sigil
#

hmm

#

ok

#

so pihole wont work on wifi

#

which makes 0 sense

#

or the ip addresses aint been re leased

#

with the new dns changes

reef tundra
#

Cant you set it as default dns with it rerouting it to an actual dns server?

#

You could also make the ip static

pale sigil
#

nvm

#

its my my phone only

#

works on my ipad

#

IP is static and im using dns via dhcp otherwise it causes all sorts of issues

reef tundra
#

Phone enforces its own dns rule?

pale sigil
#

could be

#

checking

#

yup

#

thats it

#

🙂

#

there we go

reef tundra
#

Yea it wont ask for the dns of the router if it already has an ip which it is enforced to

pale sigil
#

lol

#

its already blocking ads on TVs in the house

#

like backend google stuff

#

i mean

reef tundra
#

DNS level blockers tends to have that kind of reach yes

pale sigil
#

its insane how fast websites load without the shite tho

#

pihole is just so convenient

#

it just works

#

unlike bethesda games

reef tundra
timid chasm
#

512gb sticks I assume?

pale sigil
#

DDR5

#

this soon?

#

Or well mass manufacture

#

just gotta reconnect the entire network again

astral haven
#

Ddr5 is already being deployed by IBM and their customers last I checked

reef tundra
#

Probably either to meet contractual obligation or just pay more for em

pale sigil
#

xD

#

that failed

reef tundra
#

Kinda looks like a fox

pale sigil
#

omdg

#

omfg

#

yes

#

@wheat plume

pale sigil
#

i just had to

#

omg

reef tundra
#

atleast pipe it through lolcat

pale sigil
#

its decided

reef tundra
#

Behold the power of lolcat

pale sigil
#

haha i was going to use a pic of lana

#

as a joke

#

but its a terminal so it cant render it ofc

#

:p

#

took me a good second to click on that one

reef tundra
#

Some actually can but it is kinda hacky with some

pale sigil
#

wasted 30 m in

#

on that

#

LOL

#

worth it

reef tundra
#

You can even have it use a random file with the variable $RANDOM

#

I nearly was happy to see arch on your neofetch but alas it was aarch64. for arm architecture 64bit, lol

pale sigil
#

xd

#

why make my life hard

#

using arch

reef tundra
#

so you can have sane package management and not have dependancies downloaded 300 times in various versions

#

but atleast it is neatly in one package

reef tundra
#

You can make it the raspberry pi somewhat more secure by using ssh keys.

#

and changing the port it is on, maybe even disabling if you dont intent on having to ssh any time soon

analog aspen
#

@fickle ore I’m looking around at the arm sleeves. I was thinking if you arm aim then all those pfte feets and light mice get bottlenecked by your actual skin friction.
There are “gaming” arm sleeves but honestly i feel like they’re more of a joke.
Barely did any searches but those sleeves seem to increase friction when used on deskpad

reef tundra
#

arm sleeves as in piece of textile around around the elbow? hmm, if you aim mostly with upper arm and wrist it would be pointless. If you aim with the entire arm, they might help with friction between arm and table. But it PTFE is known be have a sensitivity to abrasion, so you might cause it to damage the ptfe coating

analog aspen
#

That’s why I’m thinking about it #revolutionary

#

Idea of the century? Pog

#

Kickstarter when

reef tundra
#

Best way to solve it by using a platform to rest the arm and have some linear rails to move the arm around

analog aspen
#

Rails wouldn’t work because they reduce range of motion

reef tundra
#

Not with 2 or 3 axis of em

analog aspen
astral haven
#

or people who are entirely wrist aiming lel

analog aspen
#

I doubt there are people who strictly wrist aiming

#

And people who does that gonna have carpal tunnel soon enough

astral haven
#

wrist and finger aim can get you fairly far

analog aspen
#

Normal people would have a little bit of everything

#

A little bit of arm, a bit of wrist and a tiny bit of finger

#

This is because if you’re strictly pivoting on your wrist you can only do a part circle while you want to move your mouse on a rectangular monitor

#

The movement is even more complex when you take it to 3D (FPS)

reef tundra
#

It might be helping if your arms are somewhat sweaty and might stick to the surface. But the friction is way below what the muscles are able to overcome even for the only the fast acting muscles. Is it even effective to lower it, because it could be so light you can overshoot more. But that could be me thinking like its a pid controller in the brain.

analog aspen
#

There’s also question of diminishing return and balance (too much of anything is bad)

reef tundra
#

Its not unheard of pro gamers using certain settings, technique or hardware and turning up the unoptimal

Yes, with 11900 k lul

zenith sonnet
pale sigil

It seems pihole breaks my youtube history lol

zenith sonnet

It blocks a lot of google crap

pale sigil
#

One thing I'll admit I find annoying

misty saffron
reef tundra
#

For just the low low price of 18,4kj instead of 11.2kj to gain 0.5 % in relative performance. i9 11900k maximum power limit vs amd ryzen 7 5800x.

#

What a steal

zenith sonnet
#

You were looking at the 3800XT

#

Also, 4K gaming isn't a good performance metric :p

#

It's actually behind the 5800X in gaming

astral haven
#

again 11th gen is only really for the people tuning ram

#

if you are just running profiles, you are better off with ryzen

reef tundra
#

tbh, the very high power consumption aint good for anyone

zenith sonnet
#

All this performance can be your, for the low, low power draw of 400W

old marlin
#

If you are you are better off with ryzen

zenith sonnet
#

You can't even cool this

#

We report the steady-state temperature after an extended runtime.

#

This fucking thing HOLDS 110°C

reef tundra
#

I guessing intel wanted to go with newer tech not being done at the time the shareholders wanted to release shit and they just cranked up anything for a gain in performance

crimson wigeon
#

110 celsius holy fck

#

Isn't that like the instant shut down temp?!

astral haven
#

105 is the instant shut down temp

#

but when overclocking, you disable that

reef tundra
#

If you are intel you can remove it ;)

astral haven
#

these are overclocked results

crimson wigeon
#

Well at least I know what to get if I want to cook something at the same time

astral haven
#

heres the thing tho

#

those numbers arent realistic

#

those are prime 95 numbers

zenith sonnet
#

Adaptive Boost is not overclocking

astral haven
#

reread the article

zenith sonnet
#

It's within spec and NOT overclocking

astral haven
#

i mean

#

blender benchmarks are

zenith sonnet
#

That's an actual blender workload

old marlin
reef tundra
#

THose numbers are fake because other number does this

astral haven
#

oh wtf

pale sigil
#

Ngl

#

I5 isn't a bad offering

#

This gen

zenith sonnet
#

So yeah, it draws 420W and hits 110°C in a realistic workload under stock conditions

zenith sonnet
astral haven
#

no xeanoa its not stock

#

definetly not stock

reef tundra
#

Would it be more efficient to get 2 lower end cpus watt/performance instead?

astral haven
#

and no it draws a maximum of 300w

#

doesnt help you for fps panda

pale sigil
astral haven
#

that aint just the processor

zenith sonnet
#

That just makes the gap between the 5800X and the 11900K even worse

astral haven
#

as stated previously if you just want to use the processor oob, get the 5800x or 10700k

old marlin
#

In what case would you get the 11900k though

astral haven
#

anything with avx 512

zenith sonnet
#

You're cold?

old marlin
#

Has more mc perf

zenith sonnet
#

It has really cut down AVX512 though

astral haven
#

10900k doesnt have avx512

pale sigil
reef tundra
#

You can force software emulation to support avx512 if you need

astral haven
#

no xeanoa the 11900k has the best avx512 to date

pale sigil
#

5600x

#

King of gaming

old marlin
#

Ah

zenith sonnet
#

Stop cherry picking the one game where intel has an architectural advantage

old marlin
#

Rip

astral haven
#

panda the point of avx is its an order of magnitude faster

#

this workload is perfect for avx512 (huuuge simulations) but it is a real world workload

reef tundra
astral haven
#

yes but you need to overclock a 64 core $2k processor to match this 8 core one

zenith sonnet
#

Here one with ACTUAL spread. And more than one game tested.

astral haven
#

wait no the tr pro is well over 4k not 2k

reef tundra
#

Use gpu accellaration if you are in need to do a lot of instructions in paralell

astral haven
#

avx512 is 64 bit or 512 bit data

pale sigil
#

No love for 5600x

astral haven
#

gpus are frankly slow at that

#

i wonder if i could convince someone with a 11900k to run linpack lel

reef tundra
#

The alu is 512 bit long.. but you address it by 64bit registers .

astral haven
#

the data is either 64b or 512b

zenith sonnet
#

So, what programs that I might use support AVX512?

#

My browser getting support soon?
New games?

astral haven
#

yes to both

#

but 🤷‍♂️ again the main point is for people who already need it

timid chasm
#

so you only play rdr2 at 4k, I assume?

astral haven
#

🤷‍♂️ yea rkl gets screwed the most by ram

astral haven
#

intel shoulda doubled the l3 probably lel

pale sigil
#

Just make the intel I5 the i3

#

Budget wise

zenith sonnet
pale sigil
#

Problem solved

timid chasm
#

not even relevant to what I said but ok lol

zenith sonnet
#

Summary on TPUs review

astral haven
#

if you want to overclock, power consumption isnt a problem and you wont be using a u12a

#

there are people who want to overclock you know

#

and overclocked it goes very brr

#

problem is you need your ram to go brr too

zenith sonnet
#

All that to match the 10900K?

astral haven
#

oh no the 11900k slaughters the 10900k when both are tuned

#

it requires alot of work tho

zenith sonnet
#

Especially in heat output rooKek

reef tundra
#

When you have extreme cooling to keep up

astral haven
#

nah

zenith sonnet
astral haven
#

these cpus all can be dealt with by even slim 280s

#

bunch of people working on benches atm but the tldr try to find a sc world record on hwbot left that isnt rocket

#

ill give you a hint its not easy

#

meh raw clock record is still fx

#

superpi is so niche lel

zenith sonnet
#

Guess you missed the news, they already posted them Monday

astral haven
#

what i think is mostly gonna make the news soon is all the ddr4 records

#

we went from 3311 mclk to 3572

#

and no the record atm isnt even with an xoc board lmao

zenith sonnet
#

Nice for them, but it's not really practical for anyone

astral haven
#

current record is with a z590 unify itx

#

tho thats definetly gonna poof when the apex drops

#

oh wait no the top is an apex

#

oh no #4

#

getting confuzed

#

eh i wasnt impressed

#

had enough buttons at least

#

meh

#

meh dark isnt great for valids

#

very good for benching tho

#

speedyboi bdie

#

i really suspect that 3600 mclk is gonna be on an apex

#

like hicookie apparently hasnt even tried yet

#

his current record is with the z590 tachyon but its a comet lake es lmao

reef tundra
zenith sonnet
#

Looks like Zen3 still wins clock for clock

reef tundra
#

The only ones in that list in the 5000mhz is amd, interresting

astral haven
#

as i said
have to search for a bit

reef tundra
#

Not really found a couple others tests.

astral haven
#

geekbench 3 is also deprecated

reef tundra
#

HWbot prime

zenith sonnet
astral haven
#

i said sc

#

and 7nm cant clock that high

#

highest ive seen is 6.5g

#

and highest ive seen stable was 4.5

#

everything above 4.5 generally cant run any stress tests

zenith sonnet
#

Umm...

reef tundra
#

and? fuck anyone wanting good multicore?:

astral haven
#

yes xeanoa feel free to be the first person to post a screenshot of p95 4k even with just 1t enabled

astral haven
#

speak for yourself

reef tundra
#

Where all the dual cores at then?

astral haven
#

no bicycle is gonna win a drag race 🤷‍♂️
and no ryzen processor is gonna win an overclocked race

#

in a day 90% of the records that renoir and zen 3 managed to pick up are gone

#

give it 2 days and everything else is gonna be on rocket

zenith sonnet
#

It holds 4775 MHz at P95 4K FFT size

#

Did I win a world record now?

astral haven
#

try again with avx

zenith sonnet
#

AVX is on

reef tundra
#

No, you lack the blessing of intel

astral haven
#

definetly isnt working 🤷‍♂️

zenith sonnet
astral haven
#

🤷‍♂️

#

im not a validator

zenith sonnet
#

I turn AVX off and it holds 4500 MHz on all 16 cores

astral haven
#

oh wait 4k is the number for intel

fickle ore
#

Xeanoa beating intel, good boi

zenith sonnet
#

How would I check if AVX works, anyway?

#

CPUz shows support

astral haven
#

run hplinpack and see if you are in the 10s or the 100s of gflops

#

it might have been running avx its just your power per core is waaaaaaaay too low to be running a proper stress test

#

that was my mistake for giving you the fft size that stresses intel the most not the ryzen one

#

buildzoid seems to use 128k to hit 14w/c which isnt that high but it should work

#

14w/c being stable on zen 3 would be surprising (in p95 at over 4.5)

zenith sonnet
#

What is 14w/c?

astral haven
#

14 watts on one core

fickle ore
#

Where is 1.2.0.1 Patch A agesa wtf I wanna test if it fixes Wooting ;b;b

astral haven
#

like the biggest problem with overclocking on ryzen is the heat density

reef tundra
#

intel good because this specific test said it. that test not this test. avx512 is the next coming of christ, and is magic and all powerfull.other tests bad because who will want to multicore when pulling maximum performance out the cpu. But intel can still overclock better.
With that amount of moving the goal posts, might get tiring.

astral haven
#

if your argument is that a thing is useless your argument is easy to demolish

#

because its useful for a pile of things no matter what it is

#

even fx has its world records

zenith sonnet
#

128k gives me 17-18W on that core

reef tundra
#

Multicore is just a thing we do for fun i guess

astral haven
#

and you are stable?

#

panda

#

you missed the point

zenith sonnet
#

Yes, stable, 4.7GHz, currently on the second best core

astral haven
#

wow

zenith sonnet
#

It's stock, PBO off
It must be stable

astral haven
#

thats very surprising

zenith sonnet
#

But 78°C is pretty much the highest I've seen it go

#

Peak of 81

#

So that seems to do something

#

I think I might have hit that high with PBO on before?

astral haven
#

dunno 🤷‍♂️

#

thats really odd

fickle ore
#

@zenith sonnet Seems Ryzen likes airflow cases and alot of lube 👀 Mine never generally goes beyond 75c even in stress test

astral haven
#

you arent stressing it hard enough then

zenith sonnet
#

All core load it can get it to maybe 63°C

#

single core is like 15°C higher due to heat density

astral haven
#

yea the hottest ryzen gets is half the cores running

#

about

reef tundra
#

Unless it burns it is not a true amd, its a fake!

astral haven
#

at least for the dual chiplet cpus

zenith sonnet
#

8T load, but temps are lower already

fickle ore
#

Maybe we got a lucky samples but even in p95 it never goes beyond 75'c

astral haven
#

remember there are a ton of different p95 tests

shadow minnow
# zenith sonnet

Thanks.
Did they test lows too? Don’t really care about lows but it was only thing 11900k was good at, makes me wonder if same goes for 4K lul

astral haven
#

also the most stressful values for sc and mc in p95 are different

#

but amd power limits are known

fickle ore
#

Maybe, but intel still bad

zenith sonnet
#

A 2T load gets me higher, to 81°C

astral haven
#

so highest temperature is whenever they give you the highest power limit

#

this is what at got for the 5950x

reef tundra
#

You have moved around which benchmark to use but afterwards it was not the actual one and some other benchmark is better

astral haven
#

again panda

zenith sonnet
#

2T gives me the highest temps
At 3T or more they drop again

astral haven
#

if you are trying to argue that something is good at nothing, i can use any example and prove you wrong

#

and if you are trying to argue something is worse in every way its the same story

zenith sonnet
#

Third thread loads on the second chiplet, spreading power more

astral haven
#

ah

fickle ore
#

@astral haven What happened to that "+10ns latency bug" that you said would be fixed via microcode update, but apparently it wasn't for 11900k? XD

astral haven
#

wait were you doing 1t or 1c

zenith sonnet
#

1T

astral haven
#

aaaah

#

thats it

#

i forget how but you can force p95 to work on both threads from the same core

zenith sonnet
#

I can do that

astral haven
#

fill up a ccx and you should get crazy temps

#

also remember to look at the ccd temps not anything else

#

but yea after checking with some folks it seems that pbo follows a different set of rules, its just that you cant set 4.5ghz with any specific voltage and have it stable across all 3 occt tests

zenith sonnet
#

Loading 2 threads purposely on the same core gives me 2°C lower temps

astral haven
#

you liquid cooled?

zenith sonnet
#

Yes

astral haven
#

ah

#

thats it

zenith sonnet
#

Because power draw is 10W less

#

Than 2 threads on different cores

astral haven
#

uh that makes no sense

zenith sonnet
#

Yes, it does

astral haven
#

2t on different ccds is lower temp?

#

are you looking at real temps or the averaged nonsense

zenith sonnet
#

Real temps

astral haven
#

sc

zenith sonnet
#

Loading the two best cores on the same CCD at the same time gives me the highest temps I can get

astral haven
#

also since its right there if you could include vcore in the screenshot for my curiosity

zenith sonnet
#

Under which conditions?
This is two threads on two different CCDs

astral haven
#

highest temp

zenith sonnet
astral haven
#

svi2 tfn is known to be accurate...

zenith sonnet
#

Stock behaviour rooShrug

#

It really only goes that high on low loads

astral haven
zenith sonnet
#

Oh yeah, that core seems to holding a 20W power draw continuously

#

With like 0.3W deviation

astral haven
#

thats really impressive

#

yea well ig this is why setting manual clocks is worse than useless lel

zenith sonnet
#

2 threads of 128K

#

On that core

astral haven
#

yea

zenith sonnet
#

But it's CCD2, it only holds 4.5 GHz

astral haven
#

hunh

#

yea i guess i should have been more careful with wording

zenith sonnet
#

A better core does 4.675 GHz at 22.5W rooKek

astral haven
#

nice

#

did your best core line up with your favored core?

zenith sonnet
#

If I unlock PBO, it would do something like 4.85 GHz at 38-40W, iirc

#

But that's just madness

fickle ore
#

you're not using PBO2?

zenith sonnet
#

Oh, I haven't bothered looking at it since

#

I'm also still on AGESA 1.1.0.0

#

Since Gigabyte sucks

fickle ore
#

I just slapped a -15 everycore but -10 the two best ones, seems a blanket "works" but havent bothered to optimize yet

zenith sonnet
#

And have produced nothing but beta BIOS' with various issues for four months

fickle ore
#

Ah

zenith sonnet
#

They even list betas on their official website now

#

Cause they have nothing

fickle ore
#

That sucks

zenith sonnet
#

I've been itching to optimise memory again

#

I want back to that sweet CL14-13-13 @3666

#

But I think this CPU does 2000 IF

fickle ore
#

Lol

zenith sonnet
#

Might go for that instead

#

Or settle for a clean 3800

fickle ore
#

Yeah people were saying with 1.2.0.1 they were getting 2000 IF stable now, idk if worth

zenith sonnet
#

I got 2000IF running on 1.0.0.0
But not anymore on 1.1.0.0

fickle ore
#

Also fuck working from home. Some retard is drilling 2-3 hours everday for a year now in apartment above me.

zenith sonnet
#

I need to go to bed already

fickle ore
#

must be a lunatic

zenith sonnet

But the neighbour is building a new yard door

reef tundra

fickle ore
#

Doubt that works because he drills the floor everyday, I hear everything so I doubt he has any floors anymore. Would probably crack whatever is left and collapse the building

reef tundra

Maybe trying to find oil?

fickle ore
#

Maybe lol

zenith sonnet

Maybe it's not a drill, but an exercise machine?

reef tundra

Tell him to share for putting up with it

fickle ore
#

idk he has grandchildren there often I worry about their lung health...

#

Silicosis from all that drilling

Yeah concrete

reef tundra

About Sonos was not planning to buy it, just asking about eARC convertor for Bose stuff, someone from my family was shooting photos for them, so had lot lot better prices. Yet I didn’t go for Bose because of value.

#

And MacBook, that’s MacBook I am using rn as I said, it’s not my MacBook though, but I can use it most of the time, although it’s main usecase is photo editing. But I am planning to build pc and not buy myself a new Mac too

actually m1 isnt bad at photo editing if you are using photoshop iirc

halcyon moss
shadow minnow

And also final cut for video editing

astral haven

i use ice lmao

#

i mean

#

it is a full product

#

just a bit uh

#

old

#

and also broken

#

at least the website is

#

most huge panoramas are still using ice

#

its the only program that can easily handle a thousand image panorama

#

also the phone hyperlapse app is from the same group

#

and its fantastic

#

you can even feed it your own videos

reef tundra
#

Videos are just a lot of images after eachother :)

astral haven
#

show me photoshop compositing a thousand images together automatically

shadow minnow
#

At least usually. You could make formats for compression that would make getting individual images impossible without having rest of video, like compression that saves how much have colors changed instead of what they are at lul

astral haven
#

well no ikas

#

by definition a video will eventually turn into an image

#

a video is a sequence of images by definition

shadow minnow
#

Cutscenes are kinda lot of images, but apart from that... it’s changing images lul

reef tundra
#

You might need to look back to see what changes lead to that frame. but in the end all frames can be extracted to an image

astral haven
#

cutscenes are usually just straight h264 nowdays lel

reef tundra
#

or scripted in engine

shadow minnow
#

Well, video games not really because also songs and maybe haptics too

astral haven
#

sure but what appears on screen will either be in engine or h264

reef tundra
#

As long as it can fool the brain enough to think it is moving, me like

#

also audio doesnt work in slowmotion sadly hehe

astral haven
#

i mean

#

define work

shadow minnow
#

Something audio does not do in slow motion lul

reef tundra
#

Then bake it in

astral haven
#

thats extremely unlikely locke

#

yes but the blockiness happens

reef tundra
#

Much easier to call the engine to move and object one direction, play an audio file and use the mouth sync to the audio file

astral haven
#

no matter what you do, it happens eventually if you squeeesh enough

#

and yea

#

disk capacity isnt the reason for cutscenes to be in engine vs out

#

they become full videos because that can be outsourced to a company

#

if it can run the game it can run the cutscene lel

reef tundra
#

and if you can run the game you can run the cutschenes if they dont go insane. but then preredering animations can cut a lot of work there

astral haven
#

bugs lel locke

#

also modularity

#

usually they lock in the cutscenes early in development so that they dont have to work on them over and over again every time an asset changes

#

thats not how big companies work

#

i use windirstat or wiztree

#

wiztree is crazy fast

#

even for a hdd it can complete in under a minute

#

and most of the time it spends loading the graphical view lel

reef tundra
#

he got a wizard in the tree

astral haven
#

i heard about it from a rando on the internet
instead of scanning your entire drive folder by folder it just reads the file table lel

#

it is laggy asf on the graphical view with my 2 million files

#

but it does work

reef tundra
#

When scanning NTFS formatted drives, WizTree reads the hard drive's Master File Table (MFT) directly from the disk (like Everything Search does). It can also quickly scan non NTFS and network drives.

astral haven
#

windirstat just takes forever

reef tundra
#

on their website

astral haven
#

the fractal looking thing on the left is my steam library lel

#

oh my god so many of these games have tens of thousands of files lmao

reef tundra

Because more files mean more quality. More GB means more content. More money paid means more ripped off

astral haven
#

#

Vr requires tracked controllers for a real vr experience

#

#

The only problem is that it's latent when playing half life alyx

probably

astral haven

In boneworks it's the height for me

the cause is a misallignment of what the eyes tell what is happing and your balancing organ.

Also whenever my fps drops

astral haven

#

reef tundra

usually with heights the trick is to not look down to see how much fall there is

#

I wouldn't say CCP "demanded or else". AMD needed cash, so they were open to selling IP via Hygon.

ashen spindle
#

the only part they demanded was putting in their own cryptography parts

#

since they use different things and all

#

but yeah, mostly was a way for AMD to get money since they just started having stuff that works again

proper crystal
#

They did that themselves. AMD provided access to their x86 patents and licenses, and base Zen1 and Zeppelin design. Then the Chinese side modified it for their own uses.

shadow minnow

Wish 11900k at least matched 10900k. If 10900k had pcie gen 4. But not this is really getting me into rewatching 5900x reviews and looking for some good AMD motherboard

crisp granite
#

honestly

#

I'd be happier if they just refreshed the 10900K and called it 11900K

#

but, cutting core counts?

#

bruh

ashen spindle

5900x is a trap, go for the 5800x instead

fickle ore

6 core :kekw:kekw:

crisp granite
#

unless you need the extra cores

#

6 is more than enough tbh

ashen spindle
#

see I would usually agree doge, but I am aware who I am talking to so I'm keeping it realistic lul

shadow minnow
#

Like, I would not even mind that if the IPC really improved and they increased cache, but the IPC improvement is so low it sometimes is still worse than 10900k in games

crisp granite
#

so, yeah

#

my brain is wrinkle free and it shows

shadow minnow
#

Yeah, I have decided to go bit more high end. Although not to the extend of 5950x, that’s too much lul

ashen spindle
#

unless you need more cores for rendering etc, the single CCD of the 5800x will make it better for games

#

so either 5800x or 5950x

crisp granite
#

d00d

#

I didn't think of that

#

a single CCD would be best

crisp granite
#

probably why the 3300X is way better than the 3100 with the same number of cores

ashen spindle
#

yep

shadow minnow
#

Like, I can really occasionally do something that would benefit from more cores, but that would be like less than 1% of the time

crisp granite
#

well then

ashen spindle
#

also because it means the overall quality of the ccd is higher as the tolerance for defects is lower when all parts are needed to function

There's only a handful of games where'd you even notice having a better CPU right now

ashen spindle
#

yeah welcome to what was already the case with zen2

#

like that's nothing new

#

chiplest are made for epyc, anything that doesnt work for epyc gets put onto desktop

zenith sonnet
#

Mine hits 5 GHz on all 16 cores, I got two super binned ones rooSmug

ashen spindle
#

silicon lottery still makes it so you can have a better bin than a higher chip peepoShrug

#

and it's not really bottom bin, there are still SKUs coming that will be lower

#

because they are not going to throw away chips that have less than 6 functioning cores?

astral haven
#

$200

#

And there are epyc skus that are memory focused that use 2 cores per ccd

crisp granite
zenith sonnet
#

It doesn't even matter if you get a 5600X, 9900K or 10900K, they're all within a few % of each other even at 1080p

crisp granite
#

I wonder how most programs would handle odd numbers of cores, or do they go by thread count?

shadow minnow
#

At 4K it matters even less too

zenith sonnet
#

At 4K you can get a 3600 non X and be fine

ashen spindle
#

I dont see why they would care about odd number cores

crisp granite
astral haven
#

Programs usually ignore hardware

#

And just leave it to windows

#

Windows has to work with odd counts thanks to vms

crisp granite
#

I don't like averages

#

I like seeing the performance for my usecase

zenith sonnet
#

Anyway, think the reason we've not seen a 5600 non-X yet is because the yields are so good they don't have enough bad chiplets

astral haven
#

No xeanoa epyc is consuming all the chips

#

Also lower skus don't really use worse bins than existed previously

#

A bottom end 5600x currently is what a 5600 will be once it launches

#

When the 5600 launches, the 5600x will have a higher bin on average

ashen spindle
#

I was more on about actually bigger differences as in less than 6 cores that work at needed spec

zenith sonnet
#

They did talk about it, but they did not add MSFS2020 because you cannot do controlled benchmarks on it

#

The environment, weather, traffic will always be different

ashen spindle
#

like even if yields improve, if one chips has an issue and only 4 cores work, no ammount of those cores being better will suffice to put it into a 5600

astral haven
#

You'd be surprised lel

#

There were a few 2 ccd 3600s that appeared lel

zenith sonnet

They do use AIOs

#

Zadak Spark 240 mm AIO

ashen spindle

astral haven

zenith sonnet

ashen spindle
#

I used an NHD15 on my 8600k

zenith sonnet
#

Dude, you can easily aircool a 1000$ 5950X

ashen spindle

cba with watercooling in these setups

#

2400->8600k second pc 5600x bc homeoffice now

#

before the 2400 I was on laptop lol

shadow minnow
#

Also kinda reason I don’t want to go 5600x or lower is that I am going with watercooling, and it would become even more pointless

zenith sonnet
#

A 5600X draws 65W

#

you're thinking of the duck, he reviews stuff

shadow minnow

^

crisp granite
#

yes

mansen works for tweak iirc

ashen spindle

I just have access because europe has access to almost everything lol

zenith sonnet

Also, Zen 2/3 boost higher if it stays cooler, so good cooling would be useful even with a 5600X

crisp granite
#

but, is watercooling really worth it for a few MHz and a few degrees cooler operation?

ashen spindle
#

if you want a silent pc yes

#

depends on what you are focusing on

zenith sonnet
#

You could go all passive with a 5600X

#

Easily

crisp granite
#

true

#

noctua's upcoming passive cooler should be more than enough

zenith sonnet

But generally, WC stays significantly more silent under load
