I'm a cereal killer
"universal"
then there is Type c
2.0, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 gen this gen that
just hope that the whole mess stops with USB 4 finally
i know it won't
waiting for usb 4.2 gen 2 to become a thing
i appreciated the type c on my 2080
a free additional high speed port
it's more because of
wattage
it wont because you already wrote it wrong
it's USB4 not USB 4
pls
not even joking
whats the difference
the empty space

even if doesn't matter
if someone says usb 4 you MOST LIKELY will know what it is about
I only know USB4.1 gen 1.0

makes me wanna slap you with my DB25 connector simon
okay you win
that shit hurts
or perhaps..
may i introduce @reef patrol
H24B
the size of an rear IO shield
i want a Keeb with that
I mean
Which version of the 990 do you even have
I mean I did say the dac magic thing seemed pretty unremarkable but I guess you know now
I mean the 990 has always been very sibilant
I guess return it and wait for schiit restock or w/e
Itās your money
And Iāve already given you all the more competitive options
If you intend to keep your tube amp Iād still recommend something like a sennheiser HD580/600/650
Warm sounding with smooth treble
Slight mid emphasis
Doesnāt have a lot of bass
Pairs well with more acoustic music and stuff like classic rock
Not the best for stuff like EDM or a lot of modern pop
I mean 990 isnāt really good for anything on account of how sibilant it is
What do you listen to
Well itās not really going to work with your tub amp
HD560s might suit your musical tastes more than an HD650 but it doesnāt like tube amps
marine plywood is pretty damn good
I'd pay that much for a sheet
eeeysh
that reminds me
300 bucks for PLYwood? Erm.
I was gonna build a kayak from scratch this summer
nah
thinner is better for marine plywood, since it's used to make boats
and ^^
MDF is cheaper for a reason
wow
how big are the sheets?
4'x8'?
heh
I think there are some in my city actually
or just outside of it
Sell your 990 and little dot to some Schmuck on reddit and buy a meizu dongle and an HD560S
Iād get a new amp before you get your 560s
I mean a schiit stack is a bit overkill for a 560s
An Apple dongle or a meizu dongle would do fine
560s pretty easy to drive
Itās not about the money
There are $2400 headphones that sound like ass
There are also $20 headphones that sound amazing
The 990 is really not a good headphone in subjective areas or objective areas
The Sundara has a little too much clamping force. Can you reduce that by 20% or so?
Emu teak, a $450 headphone, one of the best sounding closed backs under $1000. Can be driven off of an Apple dongle to ear deafening volumes.
I think youāll just have to stretch them out over time
Or get used to it
That too
It's uncomfortable, but fortunately not painful
Sorry this is not the place for audiophile nerdgasms. Kthxbai

Why because itās cheap?
Money =/= performance
Also Amazon
Thereās probably some local store that carries it too
EU Apple dong is like half power of the meizu dong but it might still work for the HD560s
Are you against giving money to Apple as well?
The dongle is $9
In what world is that over priced
Meizu is $20
buy apple stock, buy dongle, sell apple stock, profit and you took moeny from apple
What does this have anything to do with buying a $9 dongle
The dongle is the best thing appleās made in years
It performs really well, is really cheap, whatās wrong with that?
If you absolutely refuse to get a dongle then I guess your next best option is to wait for a schiit stack
Which is like what ā¬230?
For a Modi and magni
And the 560S is like 180
Idk probably try to find the dongle from some local audio store
Spending more on dacs and amps donāt really make sense at this price point
Waifued my boot menu
You can definitely find the Apple dongle from most electronics stores
Yes
The dongle is just that good
The meizu one at least
EU Apple dongle is a bit gimped
Yeah get Locke to post you an NA Apple dongle
hot
I mean itās either dongle, schiit stack, or ifi which you thought looked hideous.
:P
The more dongles you buy the fewer iPhones they make because dongles sell better

Mhmm
He's only asking for the money after he sends em out
Basically I ain't going to push or nag him
Because he has them but hasn't asked for the money yet
Can I just say
Sending them dongles in the box
You sure that's the DAC'ed one? š
So soooooo much more costly
Than taking then out
And putting then in a letter
Also that's slow ass delivery
Oh
Now I'm curious
Where they are
I didn't get good marks in geography
K
Do these even have the DACs inside?https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MU7E2ZM/A/usb-c-to-35mm-headphone-jack-adapter
It's from UK, I could get one
Not what Ares said
Apparently Ares said due to EU regulations these have been gutted
Are they as good as the U.S ones though
Still much better than a lot of dacs
The issue is volume
It's a lot quieter
For example at 100% is fineeeee
But compared to my proper dac
It's quiet
And I can pump up the volume without loss
Can't with the dongle
The EU version is still not super great at 100%
Vs the na dongle you'd have your volume lower
I keep forgetting, can I jam the Lightning connector into my bog standard USB-C at the back of my PC?
No
@digital cliff apple dac to amp to headphones
that is the lighting version
Usb c to 3.5mm
you even sent in the USB-C one before
Is whet you want
Ah it's this one
Maybe since we aren't part of the EU
We can get the good version
š
Check mate apple
I keep hearing "Brexit was a mistake"
Dunno, was it actually? š
To me it sounds brexit is a great deal to UK as a country
I was memeing
I don't wanna talk about brexit
š¤£
For the love of God I've had enough of it
No comment
So is the DE version of the damn Apple dongle as good as other DAC converters?
Like FiiO shit?
Nothing realy
There's the Monoprice Monolith USB DAC AMP combo
Might just drive my K371's fine
Theyāve been gimped in the sense itās half as powerful they still have a dac and amp in them.
Fiio isnāt very competitive in pricing these days. Their iems have also fallen behind the curb.
yeah they used to be more budget friendly
yet enjoyed the heck out of the FH7
right my alley with the FR
MDA is decent if you really want a volume knob
Practically speaking you donāt really need a DAP unless you have a massive amount of locally stored music, so if you mostly just stream music, your phone +
is already a really good setup
totally happy with spotify
tried using MDA stuff but honestly i don't hear much difference
so i got rid of it
not into all that snake oil stuff
what does that mean
He has weird taste in obscure music that's not on there.
yeah feel you
got some stuff that is nowhere available beside CD's
which sucks ass
how, with a band that doesn't even exist anymore

and thats a bit too much of a hassle
MDA is a dac amp itās not snake oil do you mean MQA?
yeah mixed it up with MQA yeah
Why not
Seems like a waste of a bluray disk
High quality music takes up a ton of space
And if you have to drive 8 channels at full quality you aren't gonna be fitting that on a cd
No it doesnāt. Anything over CD quality is a waste of space. Literally imperceptible. Also what music is made for 8 channels? Only thing Iām aware of is the beetles 5.1 anniversary remastered album
Plenty of live recordings are surround.
And newer music - Like Deadmaus' Dolby stuff that "scales infinitely" (tm)
Hmmm I guess live recordings kind of make sense but still
Going over 16/44.1 is pretty pointless unless itās a different master
That's why live music tends to be on DVDs.
Well yeah CD capacity is like 700MB
Which is over an hour for lossless 16/44.1
But if itās some Multichannel stuff then no
I havenāt seen a mini CD in over a decade I think
Oh wait were old PSP games mini disks or something?
XD to Pro Duo adaptors ftw
Gut the UMD drive, fit a long, thin battery instead.
There are no Sony batteries left, only REALLY bad copies.
im not going to play anything on there anymore
i'll keep it but i'll no longer play on it
I asked if an internal cd player included a sata cable in the box
This is their reply
"however, the SATA power cable isn't included, since this is attached to your power supply unit. "
What?
yeah, thats sata power
but sata data connection uhh
yeah weird
I can send you a CD writer
I have quite a few
out of old HP pcs
Oh xd
SATA power isn't included, SATA data should be
Are they all the same size? The internal ones?
Cause I don't want to end up with the thing being smaller than the slot in the case
SATA power?
Yes and yes.
Nu
The actual player
yah cdrom drives should be pretty universal
Ook
internal, yeah
Perfect
damn I haven't had one of those in years
Oo the curvy curvy sata data
Powers the one with the mustard coloured cables. Data to the motherboard is the red one.
My psu has all black cables
Doesn't matter which end of the DATA cable goes where. The angled bit was made to fit drives better though.
I figured. Focus on the look of the end. Nothing else that looks like it on your PSU.
it should include it though, tbh. Otherwise how the fuck did I end up with 100 of them
Sata power
I can tell by the mess of cables in my hard drive bay that I have plenty of those from the PSU
I'm using 2 already
Can we just appreciate for a moment that someone's mentioning optical media in 2021. š
I genuinely don't remember the last time I had a desktop PC with a drive.
I mean it's still in my tower (cause I've had my case longer than that) but it hasn't been hooked up
I need to get one so I can make CDs for my mom and uncle
What year is it on that island? š
It's stupid .-.
Both their cars have bluetooth
They could easily use that for music from their phones but Nnnoooooo
yeah that would be super easy
Meanwhile
I play music in my car by plugging my phone into aux cable .-.
And then I can't change the song if it's something I don't like
Unless I risk crashing and pick the phone up from the seat beside me
It's okay, Siri and google lady (it have a name?) usually fuck up the song request anyway
"Hey google play The Hu" PLAYING THE WHO
and she doesn't really recognize "Yuve Yuve Yu" as the song name either lol
maybe I'll try "that mongolian throat singing band" next time
:')

@wheat plume get a cheap car mount fan bracket, run android auto
Yeah
I had one of those but I don't like the idea of constantly blasting my phone with hot air
So I don't use it anymore
there are plenty of variations of that thing
i generally dont have air coming from the head vents anyway...
i either have it on windows, or window + feet mode
Modes?
oh right. i dont have the turn knob anymore. i tip a button and it sets to where the air goes.
got a special button that makes the window get all the blowing on full force
and one that basically cycles the different options like feet, feet + head, head
that is pretty standard
the disappearance of a knob?
not quite
depends on brand too
my mom's car, barely 4 years old, still has the same style of turnknobs
mine? actually older, has it
my mom's a vw, mine is a bmw
though i also got a fully automatic AC
my mom only has a "standard" ac
I meant that you can choose zones
i'd love to quickly correct the last typo made in a text line (like last 10-20 characters) i typed with a dedicated "correction" key that i would need to press together with the "wrong" counted backwards letter to erase if i release. if i hold the correction key, and type after the "wrong" letter then add from that letter on or change the order around with left/right arrow before releasing the button.
hey, i have a wooting two, but what is/are the biggest advantage(s) of the lekker edition? already one the website
oh i mean HE i guess
HE as a whole is about changing from the optical switches to magnetic ones.
Which means a wider analog range.
So basically a longer 1 to 100 measurement
thats great, missed that
whats about the trigger, i've seen "rapid trigger", how more faster/better is it in comparison to the normal wooting two
if im understanding it correctly, the rapid trigger recognizes every activation or reset position, what the normal doesnt ? like just having activation "checkpoints" ? is that right?
what should that mean?
Rapid trigger is basically this. You don't have to release the key past a certain point for it to reset, it resets as soon as you start to release it. So you can press the key many times in a row quickly without having to let go each time
And it's only a thing with the new lekker switches
p. sure the flaretech ones were also able to do this within some degree
What's the chance of he blue switches?
Gotta convince its worth making switches at all before making demands
Is the mentality
i think the intention is that you'll be able to set both points independently, so it can work like other switches if you want it to. can't say for definite but that's what i took away from it
the gif represents an actuation and reset point of 0.1mm (close to 0 as possible)
syncing the click noise and actuation
idk
common issue people have with clicky switches
personally, I think it does matter...up to a point
nah
wooting should make them if demand is high enough
a sale is a sale
new model F keyboards
even better
those mofuckaz got pingy twanginess for days
click bars
jackets are dumb
they rattle and sound thin and plasticy
I like kailh box switches
they're more meaty in the click
more stable
smoother
better feeling than MX clones
that's what matters
well yeah
wooting is smooth AF
royals?
love those
yeah, I like the magnitude of the tactility
but the feeling of the tactility is meh
I like my tactility more rounded
probably why I like nothing but T1, Zealio/Zilents, holy panda clones and frankenswitches
so, a fan of a p shaped bump
oh
dome and slider is your best bet
apparently BTC dome with slider is great for that
That joystick is pretty interresting but expensive to build and run. Electromagnets are a huge power sink. Pneumatic or hydraulic powered would be more suitable. Usually already available in most situations they mention and reliable if engineered sensible.
Also.. what happens if the magnetic joystick loses power?
you could also use tensioned ropes. ridiculous, but would technically work.
whats the name of the .com .org etc in a domain?
2 more FPS in Hitman 3, Intel wins!

and tied or lower in the rest :')
depends on what settings tbh
EsPoRtS ProcESsor vs Plebian processor
atlho I got intel stonks, not amd. More gains to be had, so I probably shouldnt shit on intel
brave
wym "even"
it's a game benchmark, single/few threads not multithreaded load
yes.. how does that relate? you still dont get any benefit in games with a 5900/5950
????
what
those 2 cpus are not on that chart so what 3fps?
https://videocardz.com/newz/sapphire-teases-radeon-rx-6000-toxic-and-atomic-series damn even the atomic coming back, wonder how many dozen they can make in 2021
Sapphire teases a comeback of the TOXIC series AMD AIB partner announces a return of its iconic series. On Weibo, Sapphire has shared a teaser confirming that the company will introduce new product series in 5 days. The teaser shows T and A letters which would imply that the company is soon announcing its TOXIC [ā¦]
Who actually still include LoL in their benchmark
idk, seems normal that random asian sources include it
still a gigantic playerbase there
Itās still irrelevant af tho they probably went into training bot and used uncap FPS and doesnāt care if their character teleports around because game physics get funky past 144

Ah... that aircooled Toxic will make my Nitro+ jealous
unlikely, unless they find a way around the OC limitations AMD put it it won't matter
6800XT clocks higher than 3080 which is about 2100mhz. My 6800 XT is sitting at 2540mhz without a sweat
comparing clock speeds between amd and nvidia makes no sense
6800/6900 (XT) have hard limits on how high they can clock, thats why people dont even LN2 is because you get there on water already
I don't really think any normal person cares about LN2 overclocking
I am saying you don't even need LN2 to run into a wall you can't go higher
Not sure why that matters when 6800XT can reach up to 2750mhz or so from air cooling and 3080 is 2340Mhz max with LN2
I guess so
different architecture and all that
I have been rather impressed with my 6800 XT so far
it's not even on the same node let alone same foundry
was expecting a shit load of coil whine but it's not the case
point is, no benefit from better cooling solution if you literally can't push the clock higher
so your saying the watercooled atomic sapphire is useless?
probably, aside from noise/looks
RX 6800XT limit is 2.8 GHz and the 6900XT limit is 3GHz
whether you can get it to be stable at those frequencys is another thing
water might be able to help with that i guess
roman literally hit the wall on his air cooled red devil
so multiple skus that all hit the wall dont make much sense to me
i don't know who that is but did he run any stress tests? multiple skus are for different price/peformance levels
der8auer
hey can you guys tell me if its possible or worth it to lube these switches
the flaretechs on the wooting
I remember when AMD released the Vega cards. The watercooled Vega 64 actually helped run faster frequency in that generation (i owned one).
RDNA2 is a lot more efficient though so probably not worth
@crimson inlet #archived_keebs_talk
yeah people have lubed them, if it's worth? idk depends on what you expect from it
I'm already set for the next 4 years Quin.
k
Looking forward to AMD's DLSS equivalent (FidelityFX Super Resolution) that's potentialy releasing in March
NEW TO LUBING SWITCHES And i know these are more advanced then an mx switch to i just lube the stab and spring?
think someone made a guide or video about it, search youtube or in discord, dont have a link to it
so intel with their $1k+ cpu losing to ryzen again
think i've seen that before
idk, prices might be low so they are the better budget option
doubt its 1k if the 10900k was like 500
zen 4 gonna be better anyways š¤·āāļø
it's also a year out :p
still funny how intel is trying to match amd in performance now
might be switched aźound end of the year again, if alder lakes comes out before zen4
might also be better than zen4, who knows
I'm waiting to buy a 5900X then im done for 4 years
but at this rate it'll be 4 years before I can buy one š”
doubt i'll be changing my 3950x to anything else any time soon
just get a 5800x and you're even better set
5800X runs hot and I could benefit from the extra cores
yeah cores that are on a second die and lower binned dies since not all cores need to work :p
unlikely that it's better for vast majority
Here's the reason why a 5800X runs hot. Zen 3 can have up to 2 CCDs. 5800X has 1 CCD, a 5900X has 2 CCDs. The 5800X single CCD gets fed 130 watts of power, so there's 130 watts of heat localized on the single CCD. The 5900X gets fed let's say 80 watts of power for it's stronger CCD and 50 watts of power for it's weaker CCD, so 130 watts of heat is being distributed out but it's across 2 CCDs and the hottest CCD is getting 80 watts of heat.
sounds like its from reddit
idk. the new gen of amd cpu doesnt seem enough gain for me to "upgrade" from my current cpu
My ITX PC is also a workstation so it benefits me to have extra cores on hand. I had the 3700X before though and I know 8 cores is still rather good.
I would rather wait another 3 months to see if 5900X becomes available
I have 32GB RAM
64 is twice as much
ITX is limited to two DIM slots so that is not an option for me
bad excuse
3950x also runs rather cold at 100% load
1.225v at 4.2ghz
ccd 0 is at 4.2ghz though, ccd 1 is 4.1
i just bought some nice RGB samsung b.die 3600Hz so i'm not buying more RAM. If 32GB proves to be insufficient i'll think about it then.
1000 firefox tabs open?
the funny thing is I have as much VRAM as the majority of gamers DRAM
very proud of my VRAM capacity š
no, 3 vms
If you've got a reasonably recent CPU, it's not meant to.
š where
No we don't.
Then he did it last year or he got lucky.
Then I can believe he did. The market is trash here too, like it's everywhere.
Kinda thing that happens when you got 4 years of bottled up demand.
Crypto isn't as significant this time around.
not significant thats why they ass buy laptops to mine lmao
That's small outfits that don't really matter. Most of the mining impact is on GA102 cards.
The rest is just an unprecedented consumer demand.
nah the lower ones are actually more efficent for ETH afaik
GA102 is the one sold directly to big miners.
why am i lagging when i switch to double movement mode? please someone explain
All 5 of them?
Sxm boiis
The man, the meme, the legend.
"Nobody registers WinRAR." So let's register WinRAR! It's notorious for its infinite 40-day trial so I've been curious what activating it is actually like. I also wonder how old of a version of WinRAR can be activated using a 2021 registration key! Let's find out with Windows XP, 98, 95...

Is 80Ohm able to run from a phone jack?
Studio VS Monitor?
beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 80 Ohm
definetly seems so
o
@wheat plume go with 250
Run with dac and amp
Otherwise don't get them at all
Tbh
@wheat plume AKG k612 Pros
Wow
How does that happen
I always toss mine in the backpack with all my other shit
@digital cliff stick rocking the home wrist rest j see
same
I mean... There's no rule against AMP'ing a Phone š
Lana already said she likes the build quality of the 770s
All metal too
My K371s plastic keeps ripping my hairs out
I'll go bald from my headphones faster than from old age
You know I severely doubt that
I went from my Cloud Alphas to the K371, and I use them both interchangeably
I do not sense a difference
Maybe the K371s have a tiny bit more detail
But shit the build quality does not compensate for that
I peaked with the Cloud Alphas (Aka Takstar Pro 50s or whatever)
I like bright sound that's the thing
I like it exaggerated, bossy and boomy
Neutral doesn't do it for me
K371s at first sounded dead for me
I had them for 3 months now
Recently I think they picked up more bass so they sound good
But still not that much different from Takstars
Why Sennheisers when you can HiFiMan š
I needed closed backs for privacy
Don't want to wake up people at night
Yeah if you have a wife and care about her, you don't want to wake her up
Small apartment
Nah 2 rooms
1 bedroom 1 living
I'm usually in the living
Closed backs*
And no she can't
Sorry your excellency
And no I don't
Dunno maybe when I'm not broke I'll pick up the Sundaras
Dunno what that is
HiFiMan is chinese?
Didn't know that, doesn't impact my decision of buying something
Sundaras are just universally received very well
And are priced alright
I liked the sound description, so I'll get it one day
You okay Locke? š
Some guy's selling his sundaras for 250ā¬
Quality costs
So do hookers or silicon dolls, if you want quality, pay up more
Never seen them below 300
They are made there, but not distributed in EU
EU warehouse closed like a year ago
Something something "focusing on our major client, the U.S"
Yeah imagine customers actually having some rights
Beyerdynamics?
German company afaik
They actually have decent sales on their website at times
Ah yes AKG have an EU warehouse
@wheat plume DT-770s are rn on Thomann for 89Ā£
119
I was told to not buy from thomann
Ah yes without VAT
You lads are weird
I shipped from GER to my country
Paid like 120ā¬
No hidden taxes
I dont have import fees cause Thomann is from germany right?
you got lucky tnen
You still have VAT
Yep
Ahhh Thomann DE include taxes into the price
Which is why it's 89£ on GB, 122⬠on GER
Yep it's even written out
Brexit fucked over everyone .-.
"Excl. Taxes/ incl. Taxes"
She still has vat
^
why?
one sec
Including VAT
Yep
they kinda look like my clouds
but not as durable
the clouds are full metal
@wheat plume its because they are clouds
Tbh Callum's not that wrong
Afaik DT-770s are a inspired by the Takstar 52s which are also rebranded into Cloud Alphas
The sound quality should be the same or maybe a touch better or something
weight is always
@wheat plume Honestly though from Cloud Alphas, sub-200⬠headphones are not an upgrade, but a sidegrade
is easy
volume is harder
costs a lot more to s end items that are big vs weight more
Well kindsa
Here its a flat rate up to sort of weight
but volume is limited
<1kg 2-5kg
etc
oooh
@wheat plume Look into AKG K712s
Some people love those
They aren't too much more expensive but they do jump in price
Though you are getting a really good product
ā¬222
k612 pro?
k712
K712s look smexy though
best dac indeed
Dongle won't power K712s
So like I do
Then K16 Pro
Yeah just get the 712s
literally perfect for you
who makes them?
:')
oof
:')
712s seem better
open back for me is a waste of money cause I listen to music in a room with people sometimes
no no, they can hear what im playing with open backs

I have a suggestion
but ill get hated for it
Especially by Ares
idc what people say
i used them for 5 years and going strong
the m50x anyway
Honestly
Best person for this is @neat oriole
why they need batteries?
they dont?
amazon being stupid I guess
Also been testing some earbuds
ig ot for free
the bass is so insane
its awful
cheap earphones man
"insane bass"
ye but it sounds awful
I don't need it but I also won't say no
Browse the Cloud Family of gaming headsets and youāll find one thatās right for you. Get the streamlined essentials with the Cloud Core, or 7.1 surround sound with Cloud 2.
They released them a few months ago
Released the Cloud II Wireless
Same formula, but improved sound and wireless capability
Never heard improved sound and wireless in the same sentence
It seems rechargeable
It also charges using USB-C, so topping it up only takes an hour or two.
hmm
I have used these clouds for 5 years now and the only issue is the padding is breaking up, the clamping force is quite tight now and the cable seems to be lose on the side of the ear cup so it causes some interference if I move too much
and i havent handled them very well xd tossed them onto the desk, into backpacks onto the bed etc
Replace the pads
Replace the cable
My Clouds have the cable replaceable
I heard that silver cables make the sound better or something
Ew....thin laptops.
It has soldered memory. Straight into the trashbin it goes.
Great way to bake in a timebomb.
@wheat plume AKG K361/371 is what Iād still recommend
DT770 is quite muddy in the bass and peaky in the treble
M50X is similar but also massively compressed sounding
I mean weāve been over this for like what the third time?
Feels like months by now
I mean it kinda feels like it
Closed back headphones are hard to make good and thereās like 4 maybe 5 good closed backs under $1000?
Theyāre in EU so 3 of those can be had without import
Cloud 2 FR
DT770 FR
K371 FR
Like if youāre going to just toss it around a bunch maybe itās time to consider buying a case for them
Or maybe at this point just get iems
Theyāll offer way better isolation
And sound a lot better
For the price that is

What?
No theyāre pretty normal
The over the ears
Thereās plenty of cheap iems thatāll sound better than most entry level closed backs
Tin T2 Plus and Moondrop Starfield are sort of the benchmark value for $50 and $100 respectively
Thereās other stuff in between too
Yeah IEMs are a huge market in Asia
Idk whose companyās marketing gibberish that is
Their iems are solid tho
Like actually good stuff
They have the sound down too
Ety is nice if you can get over the butt plugs
oo ok, Ill look at those
Speaking of DT770s :')
If youāre worried about them getting crushed in your bag just get a case for it
Or just get iems if you intend to have something for portable use
Oof
Those are pretty bright
I guess it makes sense
You have 990
Cheap plastic cables are really microphonic ye
Yeah
But Iād still take a 650 at full price over a 990
Are you testing it on your tube amp?
One of the āweaknessesā of the 650 is the bass roll off, which is pretty normal for open back dynamics but good tube amps can help bring up a bit of the bass
Yeah not too familiar with tubes
Too many of them
But a good combo fwik is the Schiit Valhalla 2 and 650
Have you tried using the dongle as a dac for the LD?
Is it a noticeable improvement from that Fiio abomination
I guess you could try to run the headphones directly out of the taishang or whatever itās called
So there you go
Itās much cleaner
Dongle good
Oh I always have my PC volume maxed
Itās technically ābetterā to have it maxed
I think itās the lower the volume on your PC the more it has to compress the signal to your dac but itās not a huge amount
So itās ātechnically betterā to just have it at 100
When youāre on USB audio
It might have been because 10 years ago dacs were a lot noisier so people turned down the system volume a bit to help with that
Nice
IM FULLA SCHIIT :')
Ahh yeah idk how optical audio works really
Right now I have 2 setups
I mean i have more stuff just not in use
The mobo does my audio.
I have two setups technically
Headphones plugged into Front headphone jack
Speakers plugged into USB
some dinky razer USB sound card does my audio
On my main computer for work and gaming I have a Motu M2 feeding into a JDS El Amp, and my second one setup is just a Topping D50 into a THX 789
no?
I also have a setup at my parents house, itās a Steinberg UR12 into a JDS Atom but I havenāt been there in over a year
no noise
same at times I forget I have them on
I need to try if rear audio sounds better, must find what port that is, there is 3 of them and the mic is one of them
Test away
True
And then get a solid state so you donāt have to keep buying high impedance dynamics
My front connectors are pretty shit, tend to cut out with some pressure. So I just use the rear ones which are connected in parallel or something and dont flake out on me
But also tubes need to warm up before you use them
the rear port goes directly to the mobo
ther front panel jack goes to mobo also through cables
idk where its plugged in
The good and bad thing about the 650 is thereās no direct upgrade
Closest thing thatās a direct upgrade from an HD650 is probably the ZMF Auteur
vacuum tubes are a poor transistor. computers made with them had to replace them daily but then again you had tens of thousands of them. BJT and FETs rule
The ZMF auteur is ā¬1800
Grado sux
The 650 is one of those headphones that doesnāt really do anything wrong
Grado still sux tho unless youāre ok with really shouty mids and treble
Iām pretty sure grado is to blame for the saying āaudiophiles hate bassā
flat response curve best
So imagine voices and instruments being really in your face but also quite a bit grating
So you might turn down the volume a bit but because the sound is so biased towards the high end the lower frequencies are just gone by comparison
the specs specifically mention the front panel jack
interesting
my mobo
idk why they mention that the front headphone jack port has whatever jack-retasking is
does the rear one not have that?
can you even buy hd600 directly anymore? those are from the 90s
O
is there a ned to update bios?
oh right
6XX also has the older sennheiser box which is nicer
the older box? wot
Also the new Romanian sennheisers donāt have that counter top paint
The speckle paint definitely gave it character
Nowadays everythingās gotta be black or grey or w/e
You could always customize your 650 and spray paint it white
Probably
I know a guy who painted his own HD800 to black and red
you posted a screenshot of you chipset like 2 minutes ago
yo
and it works again
Linux is the only OS that I see the jack called "Starship"
Windows just says headphone
@digital cliff
bc honestly why do you need to know what chipset your audio controller is from
what do you gain from that info
Yeah thatās like almost 10k worth of headphones lol
But heās a reviewer so he gets demo units
Max Setting on YT, heās maybe a bit too critical of everything but his assessments so far have been pretty decent
The HD800 is his own personal pair, which he painted red and black
Yeah RMAF is fun
Last canjam was in NY
Right before the lockdown
I shouldāve gone
Audio trade shows are pretty short tho
Yeah just gotta sand it down a bit and apply some primer
But I think some companies offer painting services
Colourway is a pretty well known one
Colourware*
They used to do the HD800S
Probably
Sub bass is the deep bass
The HD580/600/650/800/800s all work well with tubes
think ive accepted that if i ever get wireless earbuds
its going to be apple ones
because their design is so good for my ears
The pros?
the apple bra airpods max?
probably a comfortable pair tbh
something one could wear all day
like underwear

but for $780 CAD, apple can suck my cocks
From what Iāve heard theyāre quite heavy and doesnāt sit very still on your head
So not very comfortable
@neat oriole What do you think of the E1DA 9038D/9038S?
I found it by accident and it seems very impressive
Which of the E1DAs products are even the best
I just googled it itās an external dac amp thing?
It seems like a portable dac and amp, the 9038 series
PowerDAC V2 is a dac with no amp it seems
And hifitoy is a desktop full sized dac n amp, it seems, unreleased though
I'm thinking of the 9038D, is that worth the money?
Seems pretty new although idk kind of a niche market thing
I feel like for desktop youāre better off going with a $100 amp and dongle
And nothing you would use āportableā would really need more than a dongle
To me it seems really niche
Btw in audio terms, what does "unbalanced" and "balanced" mean?
Balanced means the ground is separate
Or one ground per channel
Unbalanced which is what most things are configured as has one ground for both left and right channels
In theory running things balanced will reduce noise, in practice it makes little to no difference unless you have headphones that are extremely difficult to drive
Sometimes balanced amps could have a gimped single ended output which forces users to use balanced
But most of the times buying a balanced source gear just results in you having to buy more expensive cables
Btw I read that having silver cables improves audio quality, that true?
Lol no
Cables donāt make a difference unless your cable is literally broken
You can get nicer cables that are less microphonic
But it wonāt change how the music sounds
Yeah I see a shit ton of good recommendations for the 9038D, like "You can use an Android app called Tweak9038 to manipulate the settings of the 9038D. This includes selecting the DAC filter, limit hardware volume, and also you can tweak the 2nd and 3rd harmonic distortion. This allows you to simulate "tube sound". This is absolutely unique on the market."
Dunno I want to have a good dac and amp, maybe it's actually worth it, considering a Schiit stack is another 100⬠on top, plus sold out
