That's mATX yes. And it's also geared towards Fortnite and regular games at 1080 Medium/High yes. ๐
soooo i have group policy editor installed on my win 10 home...and i really dont want 1803 so i changed a setting that will avoid the update for about a year....is there anything else i need to be wary about when using this "hack"...since windows home arent supposed to have group policy editor
Just update?
sorta kind of made a big mistake while making the case, it being way past midnight and all
looking at cheep mITX mbs and ordering node 202 to come tomorrow
maybe i can cut out some supports and holes to make it ligher (it's 3.5 kg!)

i fly a ton and a lot of airlines only allow 8kg altogether in he cabin, when you're unlucky they actually weigh your hand luggage
others allow 12
Mhmm
carry on bag is 2.5, case is 3.5, components are 3
i'd like to take more than just the computer
Laptop? ๐
not enough power
and i cant buy a top of the line nuk every 3 years
i hope nothing gets delayed
and hope the new nvme ssd will work on that motherboard
my current, extremely modified case, as small as you can get a mATX with a sfx psu and full set of pci/-e, I wish there would be manufacturers making similar, weighs a tiny 1.5 kg
33x26x15
I modded mine for front panel USB 3.0.
Ick.
Okay, I am having an issue with cmd.
I am trying to make it start in a directory, run a command, then exit.
I figured that cmd.exe /s /c pushd "dir" && command would do it, but that just runs command where cmd.exe was started.
Any ideas?
@latent mural @reef patrol @plush summit @iron wave @tall finch @neat oriole discussion time bois
๐ค
Of what
Intro was dope
The 2080?
interesting
Oh, I'm not going to watch that live.
Itโs like midnight here
It's like noon here.
Omg that was awk
I'm making lunch right now.
Iโll do some catching up after I wake up
Launch of gtx 1180... waits 20 seca for claps
XD
I'm trying to watch this on mobile network
oh no im not realtime
no idea about the cmd thing
sorry m8 @iron wave
I a,m using a tethered connection because I don't have enough data lol
Iโll just watch some summary afterwards
that vomand thing, find "start in"
Not like getting hype In the moment?
Nah
it got spoiled already
Itโs late and I gotta wake up early
jason kills kaduri
I've been on holiday
Also he said we didn't mean to do it
But all the information out there is a lie
Sounds like it was their intent or something?,
@plush summit
You're fine.
i should hope im ok
cba to watch anything. I'll wait for the godawful MUH GREEN MEME advertisement to cease and read a TLDR article.
gotta get that stock back up
I can barely hear it
Cos I'm in a car haha
So idk what was going on
I went back xD
God damn it
variable rate shading
Somehow I find this interesting but also making me fall asleep
so like, turing has a new discarding method
as long as it takes for the stock price to go up 2%
Lmao
It's to excite the shareholders and drive preorders
hes explaining raytracing to investors
A majority of the audience shareholders then?
Ye that's why you confused me
Thought you were saying shareholders conference
Basically
Nah, but they'll be listening
This is more cringy than Ubisoft at e3
Doesn't really interest me as somebody who just plays games. If I was rendering then I'd be keen
But as it stands, meh
it will take 5 years for games to do anything useful with it
Yep
even with nvidi's stranglehold
unless next consoles in 2020 are nvidia :x
then that's 3.5 years
That's a 30% improvement!
Next gen is cloud
Literally
Microsoft is making a cloud console
After that they won't be making anything else
Console wise I mean
Gief prices already...
And tbh nvidias stream service is solid
I've said that to everyone as my personal opinion for 10 years, 2020 us when everything will be streamed, but im having doubts
well the idea is that that changes nothing to nvidia/Microsoft/amazon
their cloud infrastructure would do either a game or a conpanies deep learning calculations
etc
Did they just call 1440p low res hahahaha
1440 to 4k
D:
burn them on a stake
oh I geddit at last
its for upscaling old content
inb4 fake 8k Blu-ray discussions
+tax +mining tax
Mining is dead.
miners find a way
I mean
ok not low... but medium, but still
I want real benchmarks
shadows are overrated
If the new gpus can handle handle 4K 60
via aisampling
oh no he said "worth the weight"
the game is jinxed now
well all this considered, gameworks having dominance, this being raytracing, so it "just works", with not much input from the designers, you can cut that 5 years to much much less
I haven't been paying too much attention to the nvidia conference but those prices make me happy I got a 1080ti for cheap a couple months ago lol
499
2070
higher performance* than titan xp
*in raytracing
September 20
....
what if those fancy cores will do magic in mining
D:
preorder is already gone im sure
more games are gonna support ray tracing than I thought would tbh
still, figured we'd only get a handful of confirmed games and then a slow trickle as the GPUs actually started being sold
they needed more than usual to work with new stuff or they would have issues selling them, personally I love what is possible to do with raytracing now and I'll play around with it, but them not saying a single thing about performance besides RTX and not waiting 6 montsh for the Ti makes me think they aren't much better in general areas
im willing to bet its just your general generational number shift
1080 becomes 2070 or just a but worse
anything bellow that would be outrage at how raytracing is worth nothing
which it kind of is
well thats not entirely true, raytraycing cores and such can be used for other things than lighting/shadows etc
but that'll take more time to implement
wont though
they have to have some kind of general improvements for the 2070 to not be absurdly priced at $499
it 100% will
I mean I know it'll be faster than a 1070 obviously
raytracing is not used much in games because it costs performance, but now many things , collision, interactions and idk what can be used without having to use Rays that cost CPU performance
quint: it is capable but when well get anything fancier than shadowd etc.
but hard to imagine 2304 Turing cores being much faster than 3840 Pascal cores w/o a huge clockspeed delta
I think that when is many years from now
not really going to take many years, give me a Turing GPU and tell me how the API works and I'll suddenly use a shit ton of rays for everything since I dont lose performance
good for u
as in, it'll be easy to implement it in games
you're forgetting that the whole userbase does not run rtx
don't even consider AMD consider everyone not using RTX, why would you integrate something like Collision into a very specific top-of-the-line platform
yeah so you'll have options to offer both? like PhysX hairworks etc. already does
Raytracing is also not exclusive to nVidia.
yeah it'll just eat performance on everything other than RT cores
honestly that current Nvidia cards suck at Raytracing matters more than AMD sucking at it
if you look at the market share
obviously you wouldn't make your only way of detecting collison to be based on ray tracing, but it wouldn't take a long time to implement basics as an option until enough years pass for everyone to have a card with RT cores
why the added work though
i don't see devs doing it in a worthwhile way until at least 25% of the consumer base can even attempt to use it
so that's like 3 years
in a perfect scenario
Whatever nVidia (and thus AMD) have brewing, it will most likely be some kind of optional gimmick that looks nice, and only AAA devs will implement it, because nVidia will pay them to do so, and help them utilize it in a way to show it off.
no this is much easier to add than lets say hairworks
the lighting part
so we'll see it a lot, especiall in unreal games of any size
because if you do clean work in unreal you already use physics material and such
i thought we started the discussion about it being used for something more than lighting
yeah this was in reply to mansen
well it will surely be part of gameworks, why wouldn't it
they said 'just works' like 40 times
I'll bet it'll be like I said...because that's what both brands have been doing for a decade now ๐
yeah I thought so too at first, but looking at what came with the most recent unreal 4 version made it look like it's a lot easier to implement this time
but obviously can't say anyhting for sure until the hardware is actually out
well lets look at this from a different point of view, when is the next amd video card with acceptable dx r.t. coming out
I give it months. AMD knew nVidia would come out with something.
let me rewrite that : when is the next acceptable AMD card coming out?
Heh exactly.
ok giving them a bit too much crap here
Real question is whether they'll fail to match the highest cards this time around, or if they get stuck at around mid/mid high end again.
outside of high end they aren't that bad
Can't wait for nda to lift
no need to rephrase, acceptable amd card is coming late 2019 ir 2020, dxr acceptable would be 2 years from that I'm sure
having no hbm scheit
well with not hbm vega 56 and 64 would be complete garbage
so lets hope the new generation can do good without it
The new nvidia cards feel a bit pricey
They definitely are.
hard to say without knowing the actual performance
The 1080TI launched at 699$
HBM is the worst failed AMD's experiment ever, causing delays and setbacks of all kinds, until they have a new arc without it, this is far worse than bulldozer
My 1070 was like ยฃ430
why are you saying hbm is a failed experiemnt?
Unless the difference is mind blowing
AMDs problem was tooling a business card towards gamers, which wasn't a great success.
I'm not bothering
well msrp of the 2070 is 499
no, although HBM(2) does help on business cards, thats why nvidia uses it there aswell, they didn't really try it on consumer vega, it was necessary
the architecture needed the bandwidht
thats why memory overclocking does so much more on vega than core overclocking
high end GPUs are bandwidth starved from both vendors these days
Nvidia just managed to make GDDR5/X work
yeah pascal/turing aren't throttled by memory bandwidth
also amd couldn't really predict memory prices would shoot up when they release HBM2 cards
amd makes memory? what
ah
yeah price fixing + an actual increase in demand due to smartphone and such was annoying to deal with
glad prices are finally going downwards
i hate phone typing. o/
heh
amen to both lol
Get used to it ๐
well, I hope I'll at least see more surprises tomorrow at gamescom, lack of them today kinda sucked
though it was nice to get a picture with the nvidia ceo
Yikeeeeeees RTX is 'spensive
shady businesses control the world
So, anyone getting one and ditching a 1080ti? :^)
XD
No 1080ti here but working on getting a few Turing
I've got a 1080ti and by the time I need an upgrade for the stuff I play, the 2000 series will be long forgotten lol
I'd like a couple cards but I can't SLI them without a new computer.
BUT GUYS 6 times more performance!
Is that an element or el amp
Yeah, good eyes
Will be sad when I finish review and send it back
Do have an Objective2 diy kit to make and keep though
The el amp is better than the element
Oh?
Yeah the element is bright
Expecting to trade in my 1080 for a 2080 at some point. Not in a rush though.
@reef patrol I'm still running on a 760. So I'd figure the 2080 would be a nice improvement.

Yeah, it's old as hell ๐ I don't game as often as I did back in the day.
But it's starting to show its age now. Some bad bottlenecking. And DOOM at a literally unplayable 30fps.
i wonder if rumors about amd having a hot new alternative to the 1080 for 300$ will come to fruition next year
hot, heh, didn't mean it that way
The fractal node 202 is Huge :/
already got the 202
inwins were too thick for me
the fractal looks too big for what it is though
not yet sure why, haven't looked inside
definitely cant hide it in my laptop bag for sure
@timid chasm I rolled my eyes when I saw that marketing
6x for RTRT maybe
But actual head to head fps? I'm hoping the 2080 matches the 1080ti but I'm unoptimistic
At least the MSRP is significantly lower than the pre-order figures
But literally 100usd more for an EVGA 2080 pre-order than a 1080ti loooooool
Yeah.... prices are harsh. And the RTX demos are... not good.
And honestly - If I wasn't getting one cheap, I would have stuck with my 1080.
I'm hoping for Navi to be good so I can get freesync supported next year
My 1060 will serve for now
Mhmm. To be honest, I'm probably not pushing my 1080 either. And I wouldn't notice if settings were lowered to the point of having great FPS on a smaller card. ๐
The main game I play currently gets 100fps on med-high at 3440x1440 so ๐คท
It was a huge step from integrated which is all that really mattered for me
Neat, the Palette 2 is coming!
what is that?
are there any major differences between resilio sync and syncthing?
a YouTube video is telling me the 2080ti couldn't do 1080p 60fps raytracing
@latent mural link?
So is that only a on/off toggle, or is it possible to adjust the amount of rays shot or something? ๐ค
@pale sigil just Google '2080ti can't 60'
Doesn't seem that impressive tbh
BF5 demo was cool tho
@latent mural Pretty much referring to shadow of the tomb raider tho
BF5 demo had tons of artifacts and glitchy behaviour. TR demo showed massive FPS drops with RTX on.
@haughty condor What keyboard is that first one?
That looks like that wireless mechanical keyboard thing
I thought that as well. But that Kickstarter is ending tomorrow right?
Forgot that @haughty condor does reviews. Speaking of which, how do you like that one. I kickstarted it because I thought it would be nice for the office.
Hexgears X1?
yeah it is the hexgears x-1
Yeah, that one. Looks great.
I'll have the Wooting One and Two at home and have the X1 for work. Works a bit better between all the Apple keyboards. Even though it's black... And RGB.
pre-production sample
really like it, I do keep hitting numlock instead of delete all the time
switches are pretty heavy
are they so close together? They don't really have a top down shot on the page
Which switches do you have on it?
which is kinda nice with them only being short travel
the clicky ones
choc white i think?
Nice, gonna go for those too
they're not that close really, if you've used any laptop chiclet keyboard you'll be fine with muscle memory
How do the switches feel? Compared to the Apple butterfly switches, which are also short travel
I can imagine mistaking numpad, yeah. I'd expect it to be there too
umm the apple butterfly switches always felt mushy to me
these are much more substantial, feel a bit like blacks or whites with a shorter distance
Grab an Apple keyboard with Alps ๐
@haughty condor The butterfly switches have grown on me. I can't touch an older Apple keyboard now.
Would still prefer a better keyboard, though. I think the X-1 is going to be great for that.
Nods
They remind me a bit of leaf springs
Will be interesting to use the linear ones once they get some stock
I'm absolutely in love with the Hako True switches on this Whitefox
Hmm. Not really a fan of how the Whitefox looks.
What made you fall in love with the switches?
they're really smooth and stable, with enough initial resistance that I don't double-tap anything
which is a big issue for me on a lot of switches
What do you mean double tap? Like accidental second press?
Yeah
Ah, never actually actively thought about that.
benchmarks!
no fps/time/anything numbers, oh come on
ok there are some numbers
I kind of hoped the dlss would be supported for everything not requiring direct implementation :c
that benchmark slide is so disappointing
barely any improvement over a 1080Ti from what I can tell
but they'll charge you another $100-$200 lol
I've heard more disappointing things, Radeon being mia for a while
They didn't improve the rasterization hardware much, mostly did the compute stuff. For things like AI and ray tracing.
Probably means mining will be good on them too.
everyone sad about the new rtx lineup?
like tesselation, LOD will never be the same! :x
I wonder if they will make dlss available in the Nvidia panel one day
or keep it part of gameworks as the highest aa type to cause lag on all non turring devices promoting people to upgrade
that said, wasn't there a serious surplus of the current gpus? so maybe the updated Pascal would be super cheap
I am definitely excited over that possibility. Smooth shadows and reflections aren't worth it for the life of that card.
Don't care for RTX. By the time ray tracing is mainstream enough for me to care about it, there will be better cards
And hopefully AMD has something decent out by then
yay 2020
And maybe, just maybe I'll be able to afford an upgrade by that time
If my 390 makes it to 2020 I'm giving it a viking burial
So many dog hairs once invaded its poor fans
Still rocking a 2gig 7850, still got love for the streets
mining really ruined my 3-year upgrade schedule
Would be kinda cool if you could have a secondary card specficially for ray tracing. Just like how people use a spare card for Nvidia Physx only
used ;)
I want to upgrade my 760. Kinda wondering if I should just get a 1080 or just go straight for the latest and grab a 2080 ๐ค
You hear lol
Why would Nvidia refresh an older process when they already have something new that's better
If what they claim is true, Turing is 50% better than Pascal
It seems weird that they would go ahead and try to make something LOWER
Besides, if Nvidia is trying to make raytracing and machine learning the mainstream, why would they go ahead and release some mainstream cards that DONT have those things
I'm no business expert or anything. It's totally possible, I just think it's weird
They had a bunch in surplus, which is not a rumour
That is true, but that's their own fault. There's no point in going in without their features tho
and AMD is mia for anything under that price, so...
Mayne they'll lower the price of the 10 series, while keeping the 20 series at a slightly raised price
that means with 10 series still needs to be produced
Meaning people who want to pay the extra for the features can get the 20, but the people on the budgets get the 10
Well idk 10 under a refresh or whatever
11
I just think it'd be weird to release a new mainstream series and not give it all of their new things
So probably just 10 tbh
10 with price drop
Anyone who wants best performance will be forced to get turing
Therefore forcing their new features, making them mainstream
10 with a higher clock and tiny improvements if any =1100
I'd barely call it a refresh tho tbh
You can already overclock 10 hardcore
I got a 25% clock increase on my 1060
so many don't want best performance. and putting tensor cores on 2060 that simply exist is silly
yeah well 3.5 != 4 too. they can do what ever they want now
They'd be sending 20 to an early grave
Either way, I'd by the fuck outta 20 just on the ground that "new better antialiasing"
And "machine learning"
lol
I wouldn't, many wouldn't
everything that was on display is everything we'll get for the life of that card so.....
I don't get why they would release a 11xx at this point. They're trying to boast the 20xx series. Releasing another one would only saturate their on market and limit the push for their new technology.
^^^
I also get why people aren't that hyped. Based on the fact that they have a new arbitrary metrics to measure performance on. And say nothing about actual FPS.
its to capture all of the market share on their gameworks/cuda compatible cards
But as a company they would really want to push their technology to make it gets used all across the board
as a company they don't care as long as they sell
they care for is 100% market share which they'll get
They invested money in new tech. They want that investment back
Offering a card that undercuts your new expensive tech is dumb
I agree with ClikeX
I'd see them offer a more budget version of a 20xx card. But not a 11xx card
Also I think machine learning is the future
And that's a big one, especially on that whatever it's called
dlaa
?
that investment isn't supposed to come back in 2 years when as they say 10 years went into making it.
dsaa?
dlss
Technically people can still buy 1080's for the time being. Which are still great high end cards
Exactly, and the price will drop
Making budget gamers happier, which is good
While keeping the top end of the market even higher, and with new toys
They might just release an 11xx. I don't know. But I just don't see the benefit for them
Not only does this equip the top end with more firepower, the lower end of the gaming community can have it too even though games aren't getting much more intensive lately
They really want devs to push their games to raytracing and get that Nvidia optimised splash screen at the start
truuuuuu
well research certainly is not the most expensive part of the card, it's the card. so if they strip the tensor cores etc they get bigger wafers, better yields
And to increase the drive size again
@latent mural You mean a 2080 without the specialised chips?
Everyone was like "wow this is really cool", and it sucked dick tbh
I guess that could happen. Probably would be marketed as a non RTX 2080 then.
I mean it had it's uses but it was very very exclusive
a GTX 1180
Now we have the chance to see a GPU perform with NEW actually potentially useful features
Yeah I don't get why anyone would market a NEW card with an older number. People would just assume it's an older card
11 to 20 is a big jump.
Sounds stupid, but people actually make decisions based on that
It's why stores sell stuff for 19,99 instead of 20,-
its just a thought up number for now
Fair enough
But if you mean a non-RTX 20 series. Than I can kinda see it happening
Maybe some third party will release one
I think Nvidia is going all in on RTX
@toxic jolt Never used Ansel. Like you said, it was very exclusive.
But RAYTRACING, my gimmick senses are going through the roof and I WANT IT ASAP lol
^^^^^^^^^
Thank you
I'm with @toxic jolt, nice shadows make me lose rationality
I have sacrificed many FPS for better shadows
Nice shadows and aa
But I do get why not everyone is digging the new card
Both which are things
In the card
I mean look at timb raider lol
50 fps lol
Rip in peace
I run shadows in the lowest resolution I can without errors, always have, and set it for everyone's Computer I work on
amb occlusion is the only real thing that matters
Ik
But imagine if
You didn't need to do that
Because it wouldn't affect performance?m
That's what I'm excited about
RTX isn't exactly "not affecting performance"
there is always time to get better performance
They've been shying away from all metrics
They even made their own new RTX flop-a-diddle metric system to measure performance
Which means nothing to anyone
I wonder if the new AA is even more of a blur filter than TAA, surely not
Good upscaling that gives you msaa level aa with less performance cost and better effectiveness
TAA is Garbo concept and Garbo inplement
And yet developers love that shit
Dlss gives me hope
Some even have it forced on
I'm still sporting that 760, so proper aliasing or upscaling is out of the question for games at this point ๐
LOL
Just why, TAA smears the screen way more than FXAA ever did
TAA actually inprives performance tho
Think smart guys
You render less
You can have AA with just a 3 dollar bottle of vasiline
But the idea is still stupid
Because you lose lots if that saved performance in janky scaling calculations and blur
I always thought fxaa was trash
It's only really good for foliage
Low detail foliage
TAA only looks good in static scenes, as soon as there's any movement I'm noping the hell out
Btw, I know that ray tracing needs to be actively implemented by developers
But how would dlss be implemented
In terms of support for it
I'm hoping dlss would be pure post process
Yay more post processing
Wait no
That doesn't make sense mb
It would basically be msaa but different
In terms of how it's implemented, it's really up in the air
The problem is that most games don't implement even msaa anymore
Much less mxaa
I think it's called
Just because it requires a texture engine overhaul, and more RAM
So most likely, there would be some documentation by nvidia
nah
And they would have to push developers to use it
just inject gameworks
Nobody uses gameworks tho
I can think of 3 games in my steam library of over 100 games
with their oncoming 100% market share....
Sekiro won't have it ๐ช
and again with what's comming, they are the Senate
The Division, Fallout 4, GTAV also use it
Okay I guess I'm wrong
They all use it for specific parts, not all of the features
Fair enough
According to the Nvidia page
Also am I the only one hype for sekiro
Everyone I asked at work said they didn't care for it
I'm hyped
Yay
Game looks bloody gorgeous. And I love myself some good sword combat
Haven't really seen much of the actual gameplay yet
Apart from a brief combat thing from E3
Cool, gonna check it out
I kinda want something that is more Zelda-like
But not like BOTW. That went a bit overboard with its open world
I'm just chill with no rpg, pure repetitive sword play + abilities
I'm all for it. I do like my RPG's
But I don't want to play RPG's back to back
Having something straight forward is great
Sekiro reminds me of Tenchu
aye its wrong
cheapest upgrade is $240 cuz you have to replace the whole fugging mobo+cpu
what macbook
2013 13"
first gen they did it iirc
when they moved off the old fat ones to the thinner ones with retina screens
get the solder iron out
meh, it's not too bad cuz I can resell my current board for like $175ish
just sell the mac?
I like it too much
and swapping the board is cheaper than buying a new(er) macbook pro
just a pain cuz upgrading my other laptops RAM is a 5 minute job that cost $50
this is gonna take like an hour
seems like most general purpose laptops went that way
the last normal laptop I had was an HP and it had a little cover on the bottom with the HDD and RAM in it
2013 IIRC
but anything else was a complete pain
but even that had something dumb like 1 RAM slot was under the cover and the other was under the keyboard
My laptop I had to take the drive out, keyboard and entire back shell
What was worse
Was that when getting it I asked for an extra 4gb stick
When I got it I was like where is it
They said they had to get an engineer to do it -_1
So there's me already replaced with ssd and dvd drive with a hdd
And I had to wait a week for the engineer
My dad's laptop is missing an entire slot, the pads and hardware to use it is there, just not the socket itself.
My laptop was found in the trash. :^)
People shit on Alienware. But at least those open very easily and have everything accessible right there
what's wrong with HP laptops? haven't opened one on a while
They are a pain to open and often have little to no support for upgrades.
I had a compaq a long time ago, I guess that counts as HP
This trash laptop of mine is HP and based on the construction it was made a little bit before they started going nuts with the lockdown.
mine is pretty solid
Specs
8GB DDR4
6600u
1920x1080
Sandisk Pro SSD
Tho 4gb stick and SSD was of my own doing
Not sure what mine are, it has a HDD though.
I tried to open a 14 inch Asus one time, couldn't do it, decided not to
I replaced the dvd drive with a hdd
Ick.
My desktop however:
i5-3570K
24GB of RAM
GTX 960
4TB HDD
240 GB SSD
Dual DVD
Plus a bunch of other junk.
The stock CPU cooler makes my ears sad.
What are you doing FireFox? :V
u wot
You have 8-16GB?
16
Pretty good guess based 100% on that screenshot. :3
But yeah, no idea why Firefox is doing that.
AHHHHHH
Why is the kernel doing so much? .-.
I should not be.

Wow those graphs.
Crazy.
I think it is just a strange thing where it breaks when I suspend.
sometimes I lose Ram after suspend
not entirely sure why but whole bunch of thing seems to take more RAM
Probably memory leaks of some sort. Windows does not seem to have a great implementation of the suspend process. Granted it is very hard to do, but it seems to be getting worse over time.
well it's really only happens when I'm suspending a real-time driver for a device that doesn't support suspend
it doesn't always happen with it too
The best kind of bug.
and I can literally be anywhere
software that uses the driver the driver itself the Device anything
Deadlocks are one of the worst kind of intermitted bug.
Once I had a threaded event dispatcher thing that passed like 20K iterations. I remove the test code and start using it and it deadlocks an hour later.
good thing that with m.2 SSDs I'm just a bathroom break away from a full restart
It takes my computer less than 20s to boot if I recall.
I ought to disable the password
I can't because of some of the things I use. They get disabled if I disable the password. :-/
go into power options, 'change what pressing the buttons do'
make sure to press the admin symbol for 'show settings not visible'
and disable the 'fast start'
that causes all kinds of issues with suspend
oh baby
I messed around with that stuff when I first built mine
my gpu would randomly cause crashes, so I tried to make sure I could boot back into csgo in under 3 minutes
It would take about a minute and a bit for it to start
now my computer is at the login before I even sit down and turn my monitors on
@haughty condor Thanks, but already disabled
if i could see the processes then it would be a bit easier to see what's taking resources
@haughty condor oh really
ima do that
i just made a bunch of changes to stop windoes from waking up at night
or ever
making a backup with macrium reflect now
1.6Gb/s
so that's nice
not entirely sure how they claim that as the output drive is sata
backup complete etc
RAID?
no
With RAID you could get SATA drives to combine there speeds somewhat to get faster speeds.
Could also have a large cache.
I feel like I should say a few good words before I abandon this computer
yes I know how raid works \o/
can't stand how Google dictation changes its mind once you stop dictating
Or just use that intel optane stuff and an HDD and save all that raid bs
I wonder if you could use that to cache a RAID.
optane+hdd is awesome
1400+ read speeds
on a 4tb drive. makes my games speedy af
if you don't invalidate the cache. :-P
Also... not enough space to accelerate most games in a meaningful way ๐
32gb optane drive, it's enough for most things
Hoping to get a pcie one or the dimms soon
I would like a couple 8GB DDR3 DIMMs.
A 32GB Optane drive is enough .... if you have a single game. ๐
If you actually use your PC for multiple games, the effect is lost almost entirely.
I am so tired of all of these hilariously skewed benchmarks that test a single game at a time, instead of a realistic workload, where a user will actually run more than one game. Your optane drive can't cache new data faster than your harddrive can supply it, so most gamers won't notice game loading improvements anywhere close to what the marketing claims.
I put my guard down and as I was cleaning the outside of LGA socket I accidentally pulled one of the pins ;'<
sort of kind of bent back into shape but it's definitely not exactly the same and I did bend it back
honestly I prefer pins, always have
That sux dude
new motherboard, broke one of the usb 3 header pins
you know what's really isn't a very good case
vbus
not sure if it's seperate or it's ok to just have the one left
I'll try to paperclip it
I put a needle inside, hope it makes contact
I guess I can blindly try to test it with a multimeter
right.....
Verdict: node 202 is extremely cramped so be prepared to bend and twist cables and ignore everything in the manual, primarily the assembly order, instead connect all cables before tying any screw
Where do you live, Ty?
Yep, that's partly why there's a version with custom PSU installed
I have that psu but I decided to go with the fancier Silverstone I have
this took like 4 hours for just the case
this is a clown car
I don't think I this is modular psu cable compatible
well I guess the broken front 3.0 USB header isn't really end of the world now that I see that you need to abandon it to put two fans
the build quality is meh by the way
the plastic top adds like 0.7kg, I can remove it luckily
Modular is typically required for that case
well the psu that comes is just short, no modular cables. They say the maximum PSU length is 13 cm, but with modular cables that means some serious wire bending
Thems the terms with compact pcs. ๐
... so I had to break one of a drive-bays really
really should have made it like to cm wider
My ITX Chopin for scale
my modified mATX case for scale, 15.6cm high, starting to feel like I shouldn't have gone mitx....
I'm fuzedriving a 512gb nvme drive and a 10tb hdd and it's wonderful
๐
I can highly recommend the NZXT line of cases for some bling. Be quiet for low key, no window.
Woot
just thought I would share my last build with everyone here https://imgur.com/a/2KjPu
Neat.
needs a dash of tiny Nixie tubes
wait a sec, those small ones at the bottom might be, hard to see
Thanks @reef patrol I am going to try to build a winter is coming ice walker build and drop it right before the new season comes out... or i might drop it way before if they take to long
@latent mural
Why where you "cleaning" a socket?
@iron wave a smidge of thermal paste
Oof.
Why is the 7700k suddenly so pricy
๐ค
put a hhd with win10 on it on another motherboard and it didn't BSOD
said it was 'readying devices'
You were expecting it too?
things before win10 did
Windows 10 is a lot more refined when it comes to switching hardware
I built a system last year and only kept the HDD and GPU. Win 10 didn't care about it, just ran.
maybe that's what I'll do :/
maybe one day...hot swappable pci cards
I just want to change the HDD too and this motherboard will be dumped when zen 2 comes out
one last attempt at this clusterfuck....
so if I understood this correctly, I just link this key to my Ms account and I can install a completely clean windows? no HDD, no nothing
zen 2 is in 0.7 years I'm sure
it's a 8.1 pro retail
Which should still work
Try whatever you need, if worst case I'll try and sort you out with a key, I have a bunch of them from uni and college.
Last time I tried activating via store years ago it kept hanging
its still unclear if, with this, I have a retail 10 key on my Ms account or the 8 key or I get the 10 OEM and the 8 is gone because none of this is documented
I've used the same key on multiple motherboards
What you could do is put the old hdd on the new mobo and boot up windows
Let it store onto the mobo
Then re install
Worked for me once ๐
with previous versions I would just use a retail key on a new motherboard and that's that, windows activated, no problems
haven't connected to Internet activated yet, if I go to my Microsoft account I have that old PC there
maybe I should put my Microsoft account here
no.. this did not work
well time to put that old PC back together
why
yes
already mounting the cooler
dm
windows has a tendency to be stuck at "readying devices" for a long time
not all the time but often
cooler is just sitting on top of the cpu, oddly, I removed with no Force, when I used this grease before it was like glue
huh
oh oh CPU heating up
wandoooooooooows is the best
I thought I'd be getting good karma for not saying bad things about Microsoft
I tried to take off the ooler and ripped off the fan, luckily it snaps back on
why would you try that
this thetmsl grease is like glue
is that a bad thing?
should be a good thing
hm...
alright!
I have zero idea what made the 8 key work this time
... does this mean I have infinite Windows 10 upgrades
yesd
neat
I was beginning to fear this is karma for all the Grand Theft licence I've done for others
So 70 degrees for laptop is a normal and good temperature?
I was running my old one at 90c for ever and it refused to die
idle?
idk who i talked to about ips vs others
why
its the same game
running twice
the exact same
that the difference in color is significant
VA vs IPS: In this video, I am comparing the LG 32GK850G (VA Panel with a color gamut volume of 105,8% sRGB 165Hz 1440p) with the Viewsonic XG2703-GS (IPS pa...
Even VA panels are a lot weaker
there are no settings on my IPS monitor, its default
i have never actually touched anything on it
ik you meant the other
to adjust etc
just saying
You wouldn't get anything better
with the same settings
i haven't adjusted any of them but i dont need to
because it will never look as good
Which is my argument
About IPS vs TN
Lol no
what makes them "bady" calibrated lol
As someone who has tn, VA and it's monitors and a calibration tool - I agree with tino
Unless your panel was sold as 'factory calibrated' which usually costs a huge premium, the default is bad
I mean actual calibration per device not just factory settings
I actually prefer va to ips now
Contrast is more pleasing to me
Especially if has quantum dot film
Yeah I bought the first 144hz tn panel..
It's now unplugged as have a 32" 1440p 144 VA
Review unit, was meant to be a 27" but stock ran out
Need to put it on my arm so I get desktop back
this 970 Evo gives the same benchmark result as the old ahci m.2 I had. seems the gen2 x4 pcie is the bottleneck
No such thing as a screen too big \o/
just need to adjust the distance or vertical resolution
I didn't even see the resolution yet
Almost looks like a quickly photoshopped background
made windows use a local account, but not sure if this isn't just my Microsoft account
it was installed>local>Microsoft>local
ok, added a local account, a bit convoluted the process was
yeah that's what I did
should have just done it through Powershell
wouldn't have asked me for secret questions
You can remove Microsoft account iirc
Like convert it to local
And the other way around too
most things will still be connected though
if you install pro with no ms account it treats the thing like a business PC and doesn't reinstall candy crushes, no security questions, etc
I've noticed
yes, but it doesn't reinstall
Can an Android service find what package is trying to bind to it?
I've looked at my 1440p144 TN monitor and 4k60 IPS monitor side by side comparing contrast and colour and the difference is very small
the main difference is the viewing angle effect on the TN, but that's not as bad as it used to be. it starts to be a thing at 27"
yeah unless you need the best color accuracy you don't need an ips, loving my VA panel aswell
or if you sit at really weird angles at your pc
my TN does slightly higher sRGB% calibrated than my IPS calibrated, 99% vs 96%
don't have a setup to measure the colour error
I wanted to get a VA monitor for multimedia use but there are very few of those going around
4k60 ones
it's also funny how I don't even notice the curving anymore at all, granted it's not an extremely curved one
My computer isn't good enough for 4K, plus I'd want to replace all my panels to match if I got one.
match resolution? or hz?
Resolution so the pixel densities match.
I like having a fast TN 144hz monitor for gaming and a separate multimedia monitor
depends on what Hz/resolution
I just want a 1080p >60Hz G-Sync monitor.
crank it up and even tn isn't cheap anymore
at 1080p? yeah
with variable overdrive I wouldn't mind getting a 1440p144 IPS monitor but that one nixeus monitor that has it is a unicorn in EU
rare feature on freesync monitors
I wish TVs had more inputs and didn't have the smart crap.
i legit
looks like I paid 479,31โฌ for the 1440p144 TN monitor, viewsonic xg2730 and 363,67โฌ for the 4k60 IPS monitor, LG 27UD58
just get nvidia's BFGD LUL
can't you just disable it? also never heard of issues with it (and its free)
if the implementation is bad on that particular monitor you can just turn it off
You paid 56000$ for a monitor? Rich blood...
most monitors wont allow you to turn it off
most common issue with it is flickering when enabling a large freesync range because manufacturers don't test their monitors properly
G-Sync to freesync when?
every monitor I've seen allows you to turn off freesync
wait what who paid that much?
Vegetables.
the , was for decimal, not indication of thousands
.-.
my dream monitor is 144hz 1440p ultrawide ips
Bloody brits.
Anyway, got to go.
I have a 100hz 1440p curved ultrawide VA,if they get better panels with higher refresh rate I'll probably try to sell mine and get one with a bit more, though this is already reaaaally nice
1440p 144 32" with Freesync
Looks washed out because of phone camera, it's pretty accurate irl
that's 16:9 right?
Yeah
really thought its 4:3 for a second because im so used to 21:9 by now lol
think thats the one I have, or similar model at least
to small
This is the monoprice 35" but it's the same 100hz VA panel that most of the 35" use
yeah pretty much every UWQHD VA monitor is using the same panel
I can only recommed it, been using this one for over a year now and I think it was the best choice
I've got the Asus 4k 144hz coming
tbh pretty much the best thing I've done monitor-wise is going and getting an affordable calibration tool (spyder5pro), the difference it makes for colours is so big that I think you should take care of calibration before caring about what panel type it is. comparing IPS or VA to modern TN the calibration difference may be bigger than the panel difference depending on how out of whack they are out of the factory
typically IPS monitors I have bought have come with a "factory calibration report" and have been closer to the correct calibration, but still not exactly
compared to TN panels
though those never have even attempted calibration
out of the factory
tl:tr
well at least for gaming you can also still make the argument ISP's don't have the best input delay you want
then on the other hand, 99,9% of people who buy a monitor won't actually play better or worse, just from more input lag
TN has the best clarity of image in movement because of the low response times. though that can be helped with variable overdrive
hm I wonder if I can just borrow a color calibrator from a shop around here, dont really want to buy one if I only got 2 monitors in the last 7(?) years
probably if you abuse a store with a good return policy
I mean I could just order it on amazon and return it the day after
the one I got was only 127,66โฌ so not really worth doing weird things over
idk don't think thats worth it if I use it once now and again in idk 5 years?
I bought it in march and I've already calibrated like 7 or 8 monitors so it's been well worth it for me. it's really nice for those bad laptop screens
also thats like 50% of what I find on google shopping lol
looks like spyder5pro is 177,31โฌ atm, it was probably a sale on datacolor's site. if you don't mind getting a bit fiddly it's probably a better deal to get the spyder5express for 117,81โฌ and use an open source calibration program
