I've disliked my job for a while but given the wider state of higher education in the UK, a lot of smaller universities are going through hiring freezes and restructures. The threat of layoffs also means jobs at any university that's likely to be secure long-term have become really hard to get. At least there is a system for jobs to be briefly advertised internally before opening for external candidates, that's pretty much my best bet at this point.

I imagine the passive coolers are going to really rely on people picking the right case for them. Not that you need to pick something all that special, but from what I have seen, a lot of cases aren't designed all that well, and could hinder the passive coolers more than they hinder the active ones. Especially if you go for a fanless case.
