Boot configuration data
Basically from where Windows Boot Manager knows where Windows sits and what configuration to load
Something like kernel parameters and config with GRUB
Oh....
Yeh
It does that -_-
Does that happen if you dual boot without grub?
Where you just pick what os too boot from the uefi boot selection menu?
The blue screen where you can pick if you want to boot windows 10 or 11 for example
Usually with dual boot you'll do chainloading UEFI->GRUB->Windows Boot Manager, because it's easier
Hmmm
Not saying that Secure Boot is a useless piece of junk that broke it, but that's exactly what I am saying
Weird take. Secure boot is good for a lot of things.
It makes running Linux a bit harder but not much
Linux took it like a champ, just installed sbctl and it did everything automatically
Just Windows broke
Yeah if you mess with keys, a lot of things break. Very strange
Those are still vendor keys, no changes
I enrolled my own keys manually through the UEFI setup, no problems
I enabled Secure Boot, booted into Linux, enabled sbctl, booted into Windows, did an update... and it died
Is Microsoft an absolute joke of a corporation? Of course
Say what you want about Linux troubleshooting, but at least you'll get more solutions from people than "do the update, run diskpart, format your drive and reinstall Windows"
Oh wait, there are no BCD entries at all now
is the vulnerability still there though?
that article says it's vulnerability is due to how it's summarising websites if you use that option
surely that's something fixable by just not letting it do it that way
from a bit of research the way it works is you get the user to click a sketchy link that then hijacks the AI agent
isn't that just another form of getting user to click a sketchy link and hijacking something else on the computer? I don't see how this vulnerability is more vulnerable than existing sketchy links
i'll probably keep using it, but I already use perplexity for research so it's literally just perplexity except it opens direct links properly as a browser. Privacy concerns seem way overblown when you can just turn them all off if you're worried about that
When it comes to web browsers... yeah, that's enough to make me ditch it
Doubt they fixed anything in 2 months
Or how much of that they've vibe-coded
Well the difference is with a shady link on Reddit you can see that it if you click on it by accident then see the next website is bad and leave. If you use the summary feature and you don’t read all the 200 comments beforehand the summary AI can get tricked
yeah but that's what I mean by surely that can be patched though? Or just turn off the summary function because who uses the assistant anyway
Isn't having that built in to the browser the selling point though? Why even use that browser in the first place then?
nope, the selling point is perplexity as the search without needing another browser
So change browser just to use a different search engine as the default, got it
the assistant stuff is just AI bs they're trying to test out, but the real gain would be if you already use perplexity or perplexity pro this saves one step in going back and forth
folks are already heavily using chatgpt/perplexity, just that you can't fully use it as the browser as well because it's scuffed and inconvenient at times when you need browser functionality
chatgpt/perplexity are already on the way to overtaking default search engine usage
yeah not for everyone of course
but it's pretty obvious it is already well on the way there and as it's refined more it'll replace default search
Fuck it
Wipe and reinstall time
look at how many kids are already using chatgpt even in it's scuffed 90% right, 10% insanely wrong state, that will only increase over time as these llm get refined more
the browser function built into chatgpt/perplexity seems a very logical step and it's going to happen no matter how much us old fogies find it sketchy or not
Given both Discord and PayPal promo I think it's quite the opposite and they are scared that not enough people is using all that AI fluff
nah they just have lots of money to spend
yeah perplexity is actually great for research
since you can check it's sources, it's a handy tool as long as you know how to use it right
AI is taking over whether people like it or not and it's very obvious even just looking at how much usage it's getting in daily jobs
it allowed me to write a python script that talks to a bluetooth bloodpressure monitor. i would not have had the time to do that myself.
it's really just chatgpt but refined a bit better for specific tasks, since it uses chatgpt as one of it's bases
I'll just sit there and wait for the bubble to pop, everything to calm down and for some companies to make actually useful LLM tools
Oh, sure
Last time I saw there's LLM-based potato sorter
Amazing stuff, can sort potatoes based on variety and condition
there's already very beneficial ai stuff, just people don't focus on them as much. For example it's changing radiology
A lot of that stuff existed before this existing AI "bubble".
the potato stuff is weird to use an llm for that, but it is a needed tool to sell and buy potatoes
yes, but its easier than ever.
AI is able to better detect and diagnose mri scans in a fraction of the speed that it takes a skilled radiologist, which will lead to some massive impacts in the radiology segment
Useful LLM tools exist yes, making a browser less secure ain’t one of them
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/YUWwUOJCeGs Iunno, this seemed really cool to me
i mean it's just chromium but now you don't have to open a 2nd tab/program for chatgpt/perplexity
i think an AI browser will do well regardless of what people like or don't like about it
the common person is already well on the way to using AI like that, this just saves 1 step
This is like autonomous driving but you decided level2 is already good enough for people to use, thankfully you can’t crash into other people but it’s as flawed if you let it be
i mean, turn off the agent?
People will use it
then you just get perplexity built into your browser
Aite, EFI wiped, SSD wiped, time to reinstall
Not sure why really, as I won't be playing BF6, but eh, anyway
I don’t care for it and you could just save the step by using the normal browser and have the llm as a plugin, but that’s beside the point. I just think people will always choose convenience and this is going to lead to a ton of issues
Makes sense because they want you to use their browser
They could improve it but better to have more control
i'd be surprised if this isn't already a long term plan of google etc
i just turned off secure boot..
It probably is but that doesn’t make it any better xD
they know they're losing search engine traffic to chatgpt/perplexity already, so i would assume google etc all have this as their plan in future
As long as stuff like the summary agent gets advertised, and in theory it’s nice, it will be used and cause issues
yeah i don't doubt it. I assume it'll cause issues, eventually be fixed and become a commonly used thing at some point
that's just how new tech like this always goes
Idk if it can be fixed because you essentially remove the human as a filter for obvious shit
eventually be fixed
Um... yeah, about that...
it'll eventually be fixed, just like most vulnerabilities. Just it may take a bunch of issues or sidequests
difference is this is just one of so many because you just gave people a completely new attack vector, but people have years of experience breaking stuff now already
and theres no telling if you can ever fix it back to the same level we have now because the fundamental filtering element of human brain is gone now
that's just the price paid with these advancements, for better or worse
yeah but its not really an advancement yet even and it still has the price
well depends on how you use it
if you use perplexity currently and a browser separately and turn off the ai agent then it's useful
if not then sure, don't use it
same with any new emerging technologies, it'll have it's vulnerabilities, but it doesn't mean you can't also take advantage of the areas it does get right
Yall know how Windows automatically mounts new drives when you install one? Assigns it the next drive letter like D or C etc etc?
I found out Bluefin Linux does this too AND I AM SO HAPPY CAUSE I HATED THAT LINUX NEVER DID THAT
Dont need to delve into the fstab file and manually add the drive and a mountpoint and configure mount flags 💜
It does?
Welcome to udisks
YEP, I just installed another SSD from my previous computer, and it immediately detected it when I rebooted and I can browse it freely
even has the right drive label
I called it Library on my old desktop and it remains here too
from a previous computer
Well there's the thing. It's already formatted.
Cause Windows absolutely does NOT just format and add a drive letter to a new drive 😄
wtf lana, auto mount has been a thing for 20 ish years?
yeh it does, I plug in a new SSD and it automaticlly assigns a drive letter to it
Linux typically only automounts USB drives and SD cards, not internal SSDs
If you got out and buy a factory new disk, you'll have to set it up in the admin panel in Windows. It doesn't just automatically do anything.
It asks you to format the drive, then it will automount it
Nope
Yep

Depends on udisks configuration, by default they do not mount SSDs
Yes exactly
this is the only distro ive seen to do it automatically
Though, I do need to enter my sudo password to mount the drive the first time, but its already in my file manager without me needing to edit fstab
What no
Linux has always mounted drives for me
Wtf
I've never been asked to format it
Ever
Internal SSDs?
yeah, it always automounts external shit
Im on about both
hmmmmm
I've always had multiple SSDs
Always
At one point I had an SSD for just Linux and every other SSD auto mounted.
Speaking of
I have a 2tb ssd doing literally nothing, Linux time?
For sure! I suggest Bluefin
you have to use Fedora Media Writer to make the USB though
i thought everybody does ventoy now? 😅
Yes but any distro from uBlue doesnt work in Ventoy
you can try but it may not do it
i will stick with a vanilla distro
They recommend you dont install layered packages, but I really wanted the webapp manager.... so I installed that from RPM 😅
everyone does

120mm singletower that is really not that far behind the D15
back fan is a reverse fan which is kinda nice
oh wait sorry, that was the german link
mh yeah if he had just just in the title or thumbnail its just another thermalright nobody wouldve clicked the video
non clickbait title: thermalright added a model with LCD screen
still funny to me that it is performing that well with a single tower
I mean we know that from the regular TR coolers
they have some single and some dual towers
its easy to cool in games since none of them load a cpu like cinebench
gotta pay the bill somehow
tbh its easy to cool during normal gaming sessions
heavy cpu workloads is another story
i just often heard that its easier to cool then the 7800x3d
and ive never seen those kinda temps on it even in benchmarks xd
Yeah because they flipped the vcache position or smth
Which apparently allowed for better OC headroom
yeah the cores are on top now so its as easy to cool as a regular cpu
and in gaming you have like half the powerdraw
iirc 7800 and 9800 x3ds are essentially 70w gaming
if not less yeah
like most of the time, my 9800x3d is between 70-80
I wonder if tandem OLED 3440X1440 34 inch monitor is coming soon
wtf is "cloud-native" workstation, chrome os?
That it's built with the same tooling as the containers you might use for all your cloud things
^
thats a 100% buzz word bs shit
regardless, the most rock solid OS ive ever used
I like it a lot, no maintainence, and you can still install RPM if you need to
Like I did for the webapp manager
no maintenance? that's called auto updates
containers are great when you have unlimited scale, is cloud, but on single system it makes less sense
no reason to run every desktop app in them
every feature they mention costs resources, CPU, memory and disk
can disable the autoupdates xd they check every 6 hours otherwise, idk why that often cause the OS is not updated that often
its a system imagine, so everything id all in one
so to update a package they diff the os image
doesnt cloud native and desktop for consumers kinda contradict itself? like how can it be optimized for both at once when they are like opposite needs
Cloud Native
Universal Blue rests on the idea of bringing cloud native patterns to the operating system. We leverage standard cloud tools like the OCI standard images, Docker/Podman, and GitHub to build our images. This is a much lighter and faster way of building and deploying Linux environments. Professionals in the industry can leverage their pre-existing knowledge to create a better desktop experience for everyone. Simply put, our community shares the work of maintaining our desktops and investing in automating every aspect in order to provide a maintenance-free experience.
UGH..just remembered I will need to physally remove the Linux SSD from the computer when i wanna install Windows on the second one, ffs so annoying
why
Do you?
wwindows only nuke first boot device
so make the windows drive the first boot disk
Oh you installed Linux first. Yeah usually I install windows first and Linux after
then after installing windows swap back to Linux first
then add windows to bootloader
And that's just a bios order thingy
I Need help work can I Find the Support here for an Order
if you leave Linux first windows will nuke the boot loader
Where*
Thx
Jfc that profile pic
it'll be 20 years and lana will still complain about long solved dual boot issues
No it does not
i mean I've literally been doing that for 20 years
Windows does keep other loaders around, the only thing it might do is set itself as the first one
you cant change disk order via os...
Disk order does not matter in the slightest
only in bios/uefi
boot order 100% matyers
windows always install boot loader on the first fixed disk in the boot load order.
I plan to have Windows on the second drive, and then pick what OS I want using UEFI boot selection
And that's a problem because..........?
no GRUB
if you have grub on the first disk your Linux is bricked
how do you boot Linux via windows boot loader?
You don't, you simply drop back to UEFI if possible to change back the boot order, or use an utility to change it in WIndows, or use bcdedit if you want to do it manually
the boot partition for Linux is gone
???? is it?
Then how did I not lose anything when I installed Windows on my Steam Deck recently
Windows installer does not nuke other operating systems and I have no idea what the hell you guys are clicking to make it happen
Found a neat extension that lets you pick where to reboot into :D
dafuq is Windows Boot Manager?
It is exactly that
I did boot into the Live USB of a Windows install earlier.....that shouldnt write shit to disk right??
ohhh its steam deck
Nah, not Deck... just regular Linux xd
oh, then it is a phone
?
To be sure you can always use efibootmgr to check the entries and potentially clean out old ones
how tf is there Windows?!?!
The second drive doesnt have any OS on it, unless it detects whatever Windows planted on it when I had Windows interact with the drive last??
fullscreen screenshot xd
makes a lot more sense
yeh XD
you got phantom windows
It refers to the second disk, partition ID 1d34c......., you can do lsblk -oNAME,FSTYPE,PARTUUID,LABEL, match it with the PARTUUID
If it does not exist then it's just an old entry you may remove
thats why you just WSL instead of dual boot
still get to use both os and no dual boot or other issue
nothing could go wrong there
no this is why you buy a 2nd pc mhm mhm
No
Windows is just gonna be for fortnite so I can play it with sis
Cause it's laggy AF on my tablet
Idk how it lags
It's got snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
I think you just answered your question
That's a good CPU though
pretty sure gen1 was still made on samsung foundry and is prone to overheat which would easily explain lags
which one
why do you run in performance mode?
oh, yeah you need a space heater :p
nm. Performance mode needlesly keeps clocks high
is that a linux thing? performance modes shouldnt fuck with cpu performance outside of sleep and such
for desktops at least, laptops/on battery is something else
that doesnt mean much
high clocks dont use a lot of power on its own
on a desktop thats neglible
im watching a video and cpu is at high clocks but near idle powerdraw
I. Didn't look at powerdraw
Corsair Vanguard Pro 96 Gaming Keyboard Review.
Is the Corsair Vanguard 96 Pro really the best gaming keyboard of 2025? In this video, we dive into the features, performance, and overall value of the Corsair Vanguard 96 Pro to see if it lives up to its reputation as the top gaming keyboard of the year. With its advanced technology, customizable...
actually, how does corsair manage to make a magnetic wristrest here?
I'm curious, considering this is also using magnetic HE switches. And also, this keyboard is basically one of my ideal keyboards as of right now, IF a USB passthrough is added. Looks REALLY good tbh
wHy wouldn't it work?
wootings silicone rest is a choice not a requirement
i have 4 xg3s in my left hand, one in each finger tip, I have to pull the key caps to mess with he switches
inverse square law yo
Does it do anything? I feel like it does in some games maybe
Magnets messes up with HE keyboards. Maybe if it's not too strong then it's not that big of a deal
no they don't, unless they are massive hobby magnets
xg3 are n54 magnets inside my fingers right on the keys, no issues
a wirst rest is way to far away to matter.
it's easy to compensate for as long as the wrist rest is not constantly moving around. not to mention it is easily detectable and therefore easy to turn on and off the compensation factor. or you can eliminate the problem entirely using magnetic shielding.
although if you are smart and if your filtering algorithms are good those will probably filter out the interference induced by the magnet.
it's a pretty trivial solution if you ask me
or if you are like me big electromagnets and tesla coils (I had my wooting react very badly when the tesla coil is turned in in the room LMAO)
thats more emf than pure magnetic
its likely causeing noise directily on the board, than though the halls
yeah, the EMP produced by the tesla coil is very much messing with the ADCs on the board ROFL
not so much the magnetic fields it produces
the electromagnet that I have though can mess with the wooting if it gets like 12 inches too close to it
my fingers have way higher field strenght at the key than any wirst rest anway
think of it this way, i can get a few paper clips on my finger, and thats right on the key, a wirst rest isnt moving a paper clip from inch+ away
I wonder what the implants are for?
I know they serve some sort of purpose
i can feel magnetic fields
ah, for your job?
can run my hand over a wall and find the wires and shit its tool
yeah makes sense
no job is giving you implatened magnets XD
its for fun
pretty much
that probably means Wooting's interference and noise filtering is pretty damn good
i have rfid too
well, to a point
nah inverse square is a bitch
but that's still pretty good
it's not the worst thing to deal with, you can probably have an intern figure it all out in MATLAB Simulink in an afternoon.
yes but its a running gag for EEs and all the wireless power and data "inventions"
i get to poke at both, as im neither and porb make more money XD
plus no debt
but i have to deal with both
real
i do industrial, automotive and marine electrical diagnoses
ooh nice!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECz-eY1yphU
well Asus mentioned that their split keyboard cannot get magnetically attached because magnet interferes with their HE switches for the ROG falcata
Its called the Falcata and i think its a really good, but pricey, hall effect keyboard.

"cannot" means "is too expensive to figure out so we just say we cant"
how can I check to see if my SSD is one of the ones that get bricked by the new Windows version?
Is that a thing?
its a few specific storage controllers that are affected
my theory is that split keyboard is too close if we use magnetically attached connections so yea.
Magnets interfere with hall effect joysticks
So clearly there's gotta be some level of interference
- i'm pretty sure i've seen people with wootings have issues with magnetic wristrests
And magnetic strips in desks
It may not be a lot of interference but it still exists
maybe they couldn't figure out a nice way to compensate for the magnets in a way that does not sacrifice latency or other things
wait what? since when!?
At some point you can't redefine physics
You could have deadzones to try to compensate but who wants that
I wouldn't say that, it's more like you cant find a good enough workaround in a meaningful way to compensate for it that does not sacrifice performance.
I see? seems like there was some ''engineering preview firmware'' issue? https://wccftech.com/phison-dismisses-reports-of-windows-11-updates-bricking-ssds-runs-rigorous-testing-unable-to-reproduce-errors/
https://www.pcmag.com/news/pc-building-group-figures-out-why-windows-11-update-is-bricking-ssds
engineering is all about compromise
whoopsies
ofc they do
do you think i'm dumb
this is probably something that can be solved with calibration and magnetic shielding but it would be expensive and overcomplicated so its not done
Bye Bye mini player on youtube?!
Isn't that just because you are currently using it
im not
You can also press i
yeah :D i makes it work but odd that the button is missing
Yup, can also right click the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC7IIJCz8Dw Snippet from this video, very cinematographic review
The first hands-on review video of the iPhone 17 series is here! I never expected the most useful upgrade this time to be the thermal management… Hope you enjoy it!
This isn't really a thing
Ssds got hot, and shut down. Even a simple Heatsink solves it
Nono there was an update that due to ssd controller issue caused them to lock up basically
But that was not windows fault it just triggered it
The controllers were basically not following spec
It was an edge case of if you copy large files like a 60gb game while the drive was over half full after a certain update
But it’s long been fixed
Ah that's not the tests I've seen
I've seen tweakers.net test it, and the only thing they found was overheating
no no there was an update for Windows that bricked SSDs that were using a specific storage controller
wow, Quin agreeing with me on something, is this an alternative universe?
Didn't brick them AFAIK
And according to the article I sent it was because of some ''engineering preview firmware'' according to Phison
I mean you are listing it as an update for windows but it was the ssd firmware causing it not windows, could've happend on linux almost the same way
and also its fixed so no longer accurate
it's not like I disagree on opinions to be contrarian
facts just dont have more than one side
Run your windows updates @wheat plume
i blame asrock
I dont use Windows, but I do want to install it to this spare SSD at some point this week
So you do use it? confused
doesnt matter the update has long been out and even without it, it wasnt even a common thing it was testing firmware that made it onto some drives, last I checked there wasnt any retail ssd that had the issue
all something 10 second google searches can find..
which one is it?
got it, thanks!
y'all, is Thermal Grizzly Duronaut a good enough thermal interface material between a laptop dGPU and it's heatsink? Or are there better options that offer equal or better effective thermal conductivity and stability?
its one of the best performing thermal pastes
yeah I looked at the datasheet for it and it claims a pretty good thermal conductivity along with good stability so it can last a long time.
because I do not want to open up my old thinkpad again after doing this re-application of paste
use a phase change pad that makes it easier and not a mess to work with
yeah I heard it's a bit on the viscous side
ptm7950
literally almost impossible to find genuine sheets on the internet though 😭
right to repair lets gooooo
most of the ones I found were either counterfeit or close clones
therm grizzly has them
I always used arctic mx4 but grizzly makes great stuff sometimes their paste is thicc
and I think LTT store sells rebranded honywell PTM too
the real deal?
Arctic mx4 has my favorite consistency. Comes out thin easy to apply and works great for 10+ years
idk if TG rebrands or makes their own but its the same quality
I just didnt like their consistency. Came out thick and harder to use
so an effectively equivalent formulation to the Honeywell stuff?
we're talking about thermal pad...
Ohhhhh i thought thermal paste
nah, this is a PTM type material
Interesting
Is it like an alternative to paste?
should offer near same performance
cpu test but compares them
also they make like 5 different pastes with different viscosity so cant generalize that either
probably more then good enough for a laptop xd
should also last a long time too
yep
also easy enough to apply, you get the sheet, cut to size, and then slap it on
only issue is that PTM materials do need a decent amount of calmping pressure to work effectively
i like kryosheet personally but those are very thin and need lots of pressure
and even more expensive
true
I need to get some PTM because apparently the liquid metal in my laptop ain't doing its job
what laptop you got?
G15 zephyrus
cauz the LM in my gaming laptop does fine
ah, I got the G16
yeah LM can do a nasty pump out if you are unlucky
yt showing me spanish subtitles on english videos now? 😭
I believe I am in that unlucky case since my laptop crashes under any sort of load
But I guess I'll find out once I open it up
I think the heatsink design should allow for alternative thermal interface materials, but it is no guarantee.
nah its a general issue with LM which is why I think LM just shouldnt be used in laptops lol
also lots of different lms out there
I guess I was lucky with the liquid metal lottery LMAO
Fr I think some manufacturers are moving away from LM like Lenovo
Asus uses Conductonaut Extreme iirc
sometimes its just normal thermal paste with some more metal particles too xd
it just isnt needed for laptops really, they all jumped on it the last years and realize now it was kind of a bad idea
but yeah anything direct die like dgpus or laptops PTM is so nice because much easier to apply
kryosheet works but is conductive so im reluctant to recommend that personally
laptop heatsinks with the pre-loading screws should have a good enough clamping pressure to work right?
yeah
does come with isolation tape but you never know and stuff
just follow the steps to propely burn it in aka do some heat cycles on the chip, think it says above 60c for a while multiple times or so
Well there was also this whole thing going on with Asus as well https://www.techpowerup.com/341121/asus-promises-fix-of-the-stuttering-issues-actively-investigates-the-problem
oh yeah the bios handling of the MUX and gpu switching is horribly thought out
I havent had that issue on ultimate mode though
but I know it is an issue on other laptops
Talking about pump out i should ptm my 7900xtx
oh shoot I also need to find thermal putty for the thinkpad 😭
I just can't be assed because the temps are still technically fine
It's just the hotspot and I'm not near the throttle point and I'm still cooler than the reference design so...
And its not too loud (unless i use the poopy auto stock fan curve)
time to go thermal putty hunting then.
I might just buy a big ol sheet and apply it to all my stuff that probably needs doing
A hotspot at 90 is not a big deal on a 7900xtx idk why the fucking card tries to run it at like 2000rpm... literally the fans at 1600rpm and the hotspot stays the same
Cuz well its a contact issue
100 dollars for a 200x160mm sheet from LTTstore LMAO
Reference models run with a hotdpot between 95 and 110 so like
Yeah don't think I'll be buying through them, not to mention the taxes and shipping across the world
Would you guys bother with ptm in my situation or
Just leave it be
Its inaudible at 1600rpm and 90 hotspot is fine xD
I don't plan on pushing my power limit more because it's marginal gains anyways
Could be worthwhile doing just so you don't have to do it in the future if the claims are true of it's long term viability
I mean I've seen people buy a lot of shady looking ptm on alibaba and it all was the real stuff so dont think you need to grab the most expensive one
good luck because even I am having a hard time trying to find them in the states
AliExpress PTM here we go
I'm using PTM from LTT Store currently, the smaller sheet is enough for four CPUs.
Perhaps but that requires EFFORT
i could open up my 5080 but founders edition cards are scary
eventually i'll probably do it
it's not that crazy LMAO
probably need some weird ass screws again
the only thing stopping me is laziness
I'll probably do it next time i upgrade something in my pc or whatever
ye i did it for the 3090
I mean yeah if you order a massive ptm on alibaba for 15 bucks it doesnt matter if its not the best because the price will not be beaten xD
but they got some interesting design for sure
Can't be worse than the controller I pulled apart
Had to fully disassemble the whole thing just to lube the switches
I should do it too for my zepherus G14 2022..thing shuts down as well and is loud af
cpu gets hot even on silent mode?
I guess? Im in Linux all the time, but it's at least 70
70C idle is fine :P
for laptop standards
Not when the fan is also blowing quite hard
how many rpm?
I'm spoiled on my MacBook with actual silence and low thermals, the stark contrast between the two is jarring
same LMAO
Don't know. Very audable
I love my 16 inch macbook pro, it's so quiet all the time
My laptop only makes noise when I'm trying to play games on it
It plays Minecraft shockingly well but it makes the fan super loud
apparently they also use super duper special thermal paste too
esp in the macbook air where the cooling is passive
they use liquid glass
lel
Liquid Ass
nah I actually like the new software design
feels more lively
I haven't seen it in person yet
the design is way more polished now than it was in the betas and at wwdc
Lively seems the trend now
Google got Material Expressive and now Apple got Liquid Glass
NGL I love this design from Google
Very clear
You know if there are more options under a setting or not by the arrow and the divider line but you can still just toggle the feature without going into the more options page
Very cool imo
iOS/iPadOS 26 has been super smooth on my iPhone and iPad
Like dark theme
You can see there's more options if you click it
But you can just toggle it too and ignore the other page
its fine on my phone but my ipad is struggling on home screen / notifications
What gen iPad?
yeah was about to say
What's the oldest iPad gen to get this update anyway?
2018 ipad pro xd
from what i've heard all the iPads with the M series chips run very smoothly on iPadOS 26
iPadOS 26 is running great on my 10th generation base iPad.
Yeh no surprise there
I don't have issues on my 14 pro
oh yeha the A##Z chips will struggle a bit since they lack the animation engine that the M series chips are equipped with
Nico's SE3 runs fine
liquid glass relies very heavily on the hardware animation accelerator on Apple's newer SoCs
:(
At all lol
Should be a toggle for older devices, but I guess apple hates giving users choices
i hope they adjust it a bit for them older devices
I am starting to notice it in some apps that have started to incorporate liquid glass into the design
like the new chromium and Arc browser updates
they just recently added some liquid glass UI elements to their apps
there is technically a toggle
in the accessibility settings
you can remove the transparency entirely
to help with increasing contrast for readability for those with poor eyesight
that is one thing apple does extremely well
Reduce is not removing
making their devices accessible.
I tried it, it basically removes it
It removes it
Nico uses it cuz his eyes suck
Maybe its why the updstes runs well on his se3 lol
Its the first thing he did xd
apparently blind people really like iPhone since their braille keyboard is one of the best
like those keyboards where they face the screen away from themselves and then type stuff out.
the talkback on iOS is also just better from what i've heard
i just found out today i coulda traded a macbook for the ipad
now ill have to ask apple support
oop lol

speaking of which i really like the ipad
unfrortunate that student discounts doesnt last till the end of this month
I am telling you, it is the goat for note taking!
whatever though i dont really mind as the m4 chip is all i need tbh
the M4 SoC is high key excessive for what I do on it LMAO
i like being able to download class content and write on it
YESSSSSS
ngl bought a pro just for the screen
same
the 1000 nits of SDR brightness is so good
apparently it can go to 1600 in SDR mode when the ambient light sensor detects sunlight
very handy!
yeah it definitely get bright enough for my needs, maybe too bright lol
yeah LMAO
my favorite part is that even the 13 inch model is light enough to comfortably hold with one hand for a long period of time!
its definitely nice having a bigger screen when taking smth like an express bus for my commute to class
but i still wouldnt take it out on smth like the subway
Waiting for those glossy tandem OLED monitors...
my macbook air is 13.6in but maybe its just cause i can have the ipad that much closer that the 13in feels bigger
Although I might treat myself to a new M5 iPad Pro this year instead
i def need to get something so i can scroll without touching the screen
well mostly for reading stuff
already exists, you can use for face and your eyes to control the entire iPad, its an accessibility feature for physically impared people.
it uses the TrueDepth camera at the front to track your eyes and face
wait i gotta test this rn whats it called
Settings > Accessibility > Eye Tracking
and then Face Tracking is right below the Eye Tracking tab
but you can do more things with face tracking than the eye tracking
and you can bind different actions to different facial movements
like smiling, raising the left/right eyebrow, blinking, etc
okay
its uh... kinda clunky
i cant get past the initial home screen 💀
and it kinda just twitches around when im looking at the same spot
it does take a lot of getting used to, but to someone who cant move their arms at all it can be very helpful.
yeah
Excited for some tandem oled goodness but idk how well glossy will work for me :/
im just gonna pick up this
280HZ W-Oled anti-glare
i dont care about glossy or not xd
Need to wait for the ROG tax
- its only 480 euro
totally not me buying another 200 dollar mouse still using this $15 tn 60hz monitor
yeah but its 4th gen Tandem oled lol
My dude you spent a year bitching about graphics card prices and now are buying a monitor worth the price of your gpu
oh and lets not forget your being all like reee i can't buy an ssd too expensive like a month ago
please be consistent
Stuff changes
Like you know
Getting a job for example
Funny how people stop complaining once they get a job
maybe they should increase prices then
I don't have money for frivolities, already spent it on such
Anyone else experiencing issues with these actually damaging their ears ?
For context I never had any issues with the 1st gens and would wear them regularly for 4 years. Not only are these super uncomfortable, but a few days after purchasing them my right ear became really sore, I just assumed it was a pimple. This was until I got the pain in t...
Lmao what
Also my doctor was telling me how this style of headphone is very bad and increases ear infections
Dont get ear infections people
Too late
you too?
Na I jumped in a river and burst my eardrum like 6 years ago, instant infection
Oh
you dont even need a pierced eardrum or a river
You just need a pool and to be unlucky
Or you can even get one out of nowhere in the middle of winter no iems required had thay happen
Always fun to have pus leaking out of your ear for weeks
yep
Actually both ears in my case
It went through my sinuses
And fucked my other ear
i somehow had a tiiiny tear in my eardrum for like no reason
it was so much fun
Yeah mine was just water trapped inside my middle ear, got a nice bout of vertigo when I perforated my eardrum. Which was extra fun because I was in the middle of a river next to a waterfall holding onto a rock so I didn't drown
i just realized
Airpods are literally ear tampons now
Now that they get your blood
The joke about their looks became reality

I adore this combo so much
Hey that's not a Sony lens
oho mr spendy got an A7III
noice
Can't wait for a7v to come out and be too expensive for me
did you land on your side or something?
fuck
Was a manu gone wrong

Than...
thats ass first though? how did you blow an ear out"?
Yeah didn't land properly and the water created a vacuum around my ear and
ears heal XD
drum no, but inner ear yes
ic
loud noises and explosions damage the inner ear and ear drum
also ear infections can damage inner ear
the drum its self is rarely the cause of hearing loss
ive had a few infections but never and damage
That sounds super freaking painful
Wouldn't say it was pleasant, and the recovery time is pretty long and my hearing is probably never going to be as good
May not matter much, people who went to a lot of concerts get by
Yeah I can't hear anything over like 12k which is good enough to still hear most things
Came with a bit of tinnitus though but it's manageable
Tinnitus usually happens when there is no noise right?
Yeah
If so makes sense why some people like to listen to white noise
I also think I need to get a medical checkup for my hearing because I have long term usage of earphones(in-ear type) and it caused so much wax buildup and I think my hearing may have been slightly affected
In ears you mean iems?
Yeah in ear earphones
Earbuds, i suppose
Compared to like apple airpods
It's the one with silicone tips that can insert all the way into your ears and seal it completely.
Should be in-ear earphones, not like apple airpods where it's not a complete seal.
Like the generic black ones
Well alright
They do create pressure
I think that is why some companies have passthrough
I might get myself a headphone in the near future.
Also over ear ones can be nice
get the wax cleaned out properly
Some of them are - open back -
did it once and i heard everything
But I guess technically the safest ones could be bone conduction ones
But for my phone use I still use wireless earphones with active noise cancellation, because I commute to university back/forth weekly, and oh boy the 2 hour long commute with LRT/MRT and bus are unbearably loud and ANC is a life saver.
Until someone uses AI to hack a person
Yeah should really do it on a yearly basis tbh
oh yeah heard about it but never actually looked into it lmao
You hear the music and surroundings
It is how Beethoven was able to play music
Mind you he used a piece of metal
Like earbuds with silicone passthrough to convert it into an in-ear earphone but without the pressure drawback? Albeit still less loud(?)
nah i bet he had one of these
It might mostly be a feels thing I think
But like is my understanding of a "pass through" earphone correct?
Basically they use the microphone to let you hear around you and make you feel like you ears are not completely plunged
I mean that could potentially be ideal but I do not know of any that do that
It would probably require a tiny motor or some other mechanism
That would technically help with pressure build up though instead of tricking someone's brain
Still though usage in moderation and moderation of volume level is important
Can I have an example of what is a pass through earphone? Is it in-ear or earbuds?
On AirPods Pro, use Headphone Accommodations to customize Transparency mode, adjust the amplification of your own speech, and use Conversation Boost.
It is digital not physical
Me looking in my professor's office and seeing a corsair H150i AIO CPU cooler in so much confusion, wondering why is there such a random high-end cooler here lol
sorry but
no
this reads like an ad lmaoo
i still use heatsinks doe
water cooling scawy
I don't even use desktop so I cannot give any opinion on desktop coolers lol, you will never hear me saying "hey this CPU cooler is really good!"
thermalright and noctua the way to go
At best I will give "oh I think this could be good" OR "this looks good"
not personally a big corsair fan, but their gaming chair i have is nice
corsair fans are basically corsair shills tbh
full ass corsair build
only thing about corsair i like is their SFX PSUs
I don't know much about corsair because I also don't use any of their products. What I think can happen in the future is me buying a GPU for eGPU setup. If I have too much money to burn lol
Then I can recommend what GPU brand is good or what not 🤣
corsair isnt a gpu brand
Although I think corsair's vanguard 96 Pro keyboard looks good
i just have seasonic
also i dislike icue software

Why you give me this emoji lol. The keyboard does look good. I think the steelseries apex pro gen 3 and the vanguard 96 pro from corsair are good, but I wouldn't buy them because they have no analog input capability
haha no, just dont want any leakage
hyte just had recalls because it was gooping out
yo get some thicker fans
got a free hydroshift 2 so im not complaining
everything except that aio and fans are black

apple fumbled this launch ❌
I dont care ✅
Their newer rmx line of psu’s is so nice and comes with nice sleeved cables too
Jonnyguru works for corsair in the psu department and is the god of psu’s. Corsair is top tier stuff for psu’s because of him, even surpassing seasonic
Anything else corsair is bottom tier stuff
Shits tight
MANJAROOOOOO
Who even is that lol
Jonnyguru?
Hes the power supply legend. The god of power supplies. Knows them inside and out. Has done the best psu reviews ever. Hes also the leader of the psu cultists and in charge of corsairs psu department.
His linked in
Jonnyguru doesnt fuck up power supplies lol
And if you look at tier lists corsairs dominantly at the top now
jonnyguru isnt personally building every single psu
I'm never touching any Seasonic, the amount of issues I had with them
I have tier A XPG now and am happy, it workies
Look how many of corsair’s psu have A+
Seasonic is hot garbage. The internet lies
thats cool have you considered applying to corsair as a salesman
I just only trust jonnyguru’s work, he was my savior of the late 90’s and early 2000’s making it easy to know what power supplies to buy
Heres a rescued review of his from that era
http://www.jongerow.com/jonnyguru/SilencerMkIII600W/index.htm
Ask him to like redo nvidia's GPU power connection or something. We need that more than anything else right now LMAO.
Lmao.
I just dont buy nvidia and tell people to buy amd cards with the standard 6/8 pin connectors instead
Simple solution to that problem
Too bad nvidia still makes better high end GPUs over AMD
though tbh, in the future if I buy GPUs for eGPUs, I would consider AMD because their 100 series(or whatever they want to name it) looks REALLY good
Assuming we can trust the leaks to a certain extend
meanwhile i am considering swapping my 4070ti super for a 9070xt cause of driver issues on some games
O_0 does the 40 series suffer from driver issues now?? I thought only the 50 series is suffering from that
there is a persistent issue with nvidia gpus in path of exile 1 and 2 specifically
where drivers crash completely and the game needs to restart them
I also don't feel like buy nvidia products because they are scummy asf, but too bad all gaming laptops only has nvidia GPUs, which is why I mentioned I want AMD to build laptop GPUs.
its REALLY annoying
I wonder who manufacturers corsairs top tier psus
didnt you read, jonny guru is making them all himself by hand
Yea for like 2 grand LMAO amd’s rx 9070 xt at $660 is really hard to beat especially when some games it rivals the 5080 even
No ones gonna spend 2 grand for a gpu unless they are dumb or have money to burn
the 5070Ti would clear in terms of featureset, especially when running 4K OLED
Some people just have money to burn, and I think 5070 Ti still clears 9070 XT.
Still rather have 9070xt. Has standard 8 pin connectors and drivers and is more efficient and runs cooler
Wont buy nvidia as long as they use those dumb connctors dont care if its slightly faster
holy misinfo
would rather have 9070xt for linux compat
That too

In my country at least, I have a junior who bought RTX 5070 and I asked her why not AMD 9070 XT and she told me "oh everyone recommends nvidia and the 9070 XT is too expensive", in hindsight, I should've asked why not 9060 XT 16 GB
Yep you should have
9060xt 16gig is like 350usd-400usd
if you think about it, a 5060Ti 16GB with someone knowledgeable about overclocking is just a 4070 16gb lmao
Also 5070ti here is averaging $820-860 and rx 9070 xt can be had for $660 so ask me again how the 5070ti is better value lol
5070Tis have been found for $750 in the US, while I heard 9070XTs are just dropping sub $700
Actually the 9060 XT is so cheap in my country wtf.
If its within $100 I’d get the nvidia option, more featureset, better resale opportunity
The RTX 5070 is almost 2.7 times the price
At the end, I think even if the RTX 5070 is performing better than 5060 Ti(16 GB), it's probably still better to just but 5060 Ti, no? The VRAM capacity is just that much more important
Thats cool you are nvidia biased, but did you know all the problems nvidia has that they sweep under the rug?
Quite a few games are now hitting more than 12 GB of vram in 1440p, no?
ur literally just a blind hater with no sound reasoning, I give my personal opinion and reasoning for the differences.
Yeah
I hate nvidia for a multitude of reasons.
Nvidia being scummy is an open secret lol. No one would be sane enough to say "oh I buy nvidia because they are a good company and I support them"
Like genuinely anyone who does that is borderline super weird
Thats the message i get from
Zabanyae
mfs be acting like AMD is a 100% pure angel
He gave his reasoning because nvidia has better chance of reselling and has better features
And he said if the price is within 100 USD, it's reasonable
That $100 compensates for 4K performance hit with MFG, more DLSS4 support, RTX HDR, VSR, better resale opportunities
acts less shitty than Nvidia or Intel, that's good enough for me
My 9070xt does 120-140 frames 4k maxed in all the games i play
MFG isn't even good feature unless you have a stable base performance anyway.
And no- 9070XT is not more efficient nor really runs noticeable cooler. You also 99.99% of the time wont run into the connector issue with only 350W and thats overclocked.
I genuinely want to support intel but man wtf I cannot because they keep being scummy, still not as bad as nvidia i guess
i love fake frames!! i love my game looking blurry at 4k!!! more slop please!
tbh MFG x3 is usable- 4 has the largest latency hit
Like... yeah...
OptiScaler
A lot of games that would benefit from an FSR4 update simply won’t get that update.
DLSS4 Performance at 4K looks good, and thats an internal render at about 1080p.
Problem with AMD rn in the upscaling game is that Optiscaler is literally doin their job
You need FSR3 in game to run FSR4, but yeah, not enough
Not only is DLSS4 growing super fast, you can use the DLSS override/swapper
3.1*
Reason why i think nvidia has poor resale value: friend bought a used 5080, got it home, installed it, no display. Power connector failed and it had a blown capacitor. I dont trust nvidia in the used market
Never ever once had an issue with used amd gpu’s though
this sounds
extremely fake
Its not
Dont believe it then but its a real story
i liek amd because their drivers just work
This too
More user friendly than nvidia
I'm on Linux, so no idea about that
I… dont get it? Both rn are similar af in terms of stability at least on windows
As stated before, Ive had both shit their pants
But yeah, I had 1070Ti, will never go to Nvidia again
It's Intel or AMD from now on
I also had bad experiences with nvidia
Made me never wanna buy them again
1000 series where good
I mean
There's not even a comparison, at least here
No problems with HDR, multi-refresh rate multi-screen configurations, VKD3D rendering pipeline
Also pretty sure there's like a ton of issues with Wayland on Nvidia
So yeah, Radeon
When they launched 3000 series the shit show started
I can literally slander all 3 companies
Im fine with whatever GPU i can get my hands on soo
I maybe not choose intel, but if i need to i can just pick that if anything
Intel great for HTPC
Runs from PCIe only and encodes AV1 like crazy
Anywho - WHERE MY M39 ADAPTER GLS
I didn't spend 4 hours yesterday cleaning lenses to not use them now
Also CPU overhead issue is kinda fixed
amdvlk kinda cooked, but the open source radeon-vulkan is good
RADV is better in everything than amdvlk but raytracing
So I'm happy that AMD finally dropped that and will introduce their stuff to RADV
amdvlk was also just pretty unstable
I only used it before with CBP2077 to test how RT works on XTX

not what i saw on other sites
u said 9060 not 9070
Though I'm happy I can use FSR4 on XTX now
Will run this GPU until it diedes

Amd’s 9000 series is insane with how efficient they are
What gpu are you on
didn't he just say that he is using the XTX, which can only be the 7900 XTX lol

He or she?
Also im dyslexic af
well that's your user experience, I have never used frame gen before so I wouldn't know.
I just assumed his/her gender.
The only thing that truly baffles me is that people who would buy RTX 5080 over RTX 5070 Ti, as far as I know, they are both using the same die anyway, it's just that the 5070 Ti is a binned ver of 5080 with quite a lot of cores disabled, but the RTX 5080 only performs around 5-15% better than the RTX 5070 Ti IIRC, not worth spending so much more money over the 5070 Ti.
Like you want to burn money might as well buy the 5090 T_T
i got 5080
5080 is the most efficient GPU but not by much
Another reason to buy a 5080 is for people dealing with video editing where it has dual encoders/decoders, whilst everything below only has 1
5090> most powerful
5080> most efficient
5070Ti> best value
Best value 9070xt at $600-660
Oh wells, I was thinking about from a gaming perspective only 😆
ur literally bringing amd into a nvidia stack
and ig you gotta have a performance minimum at some point
actually being extra
or you could indefinitely go lower with slightly less performance for less money
Does AMD not have any GPUs that have dual encoders/decoders? Tbh not that I know what this is for.
I just wont get the nvidia bias ever
iirc tech city did a video on it, and the encoder/decoders on the 50 series are great, 5050 can beat 4090 in this department.
I think they swapped their 4090s to 5080s, and the only thing that stung was the VRAM reduction. Other than that, its faster and more efficient
imma be fr just shut up bro you dont belong in this conversation, ur being extra with ur AMD based take in an nvidia based conversation revolving around the reasons why a 5080
it's okay man lol, it's not really a big deal for me lolz.
buy whatever makes u happy
^ but still spend money wisely I'd supposed.
^ back to this tho
whatever "wisely" is, is pretty debatable so i wont include it
Exactly 🙂
afaik its just not on the level of the 50 series
another one sided illusion guy
lets just relax
Im fine
I have tons of worries, it won't fade away, I want money and affordable high performance GPUs XD
Actually, I am genuinely impressed by people who can use a laptop for more than 10+ years. For me it just seems so impossible because the hardwares become outdated and slow. If I can make my current laptop last for more than 5 years, I'll be very happy.
its pretty possible assuming they only use stuff like excel, word, nothing that stresses their laptop and if they dont change OS
but yeah it’ll run like shit compared to modern hw
Meanwhile my X200s
as if modern hardwares don't struggle enough.
Stable framerates
5fps, but stable
fully raytraced but 0% raster game when
isn't that the direction nvidia is heading towards? Tbh.
Like oh god I read like articles or watched videos, basically they want to use full AI generated pixels and that sounds dystopian asf ngl.
theoretically rn that would be a better experience than the RT and raster hybrid
Not as bad as another instagram video that I watched made my skin crawl a bit lol.
Yeah, basically throw out 30 years of optimizations because rAYtRaCINg
the struggle makes us strong
to me its crazy that companies are pushing for that stuff when itll be borderline impossible to enforce a proper and consistent artstyle accross a game
even less so if its somewhat original
With what hedge funds and private equities did to economy we are now basically ripped af
ahem stutterlands4
Yeah, everything will have to be "ultrarealistic"
tbh, ultrarealistic graphics are fun, I kinda like the visuals of path tracing on F1 25. It looks insanely good IMO.
but of course your GPU is going to cry.
I don't play it btw, I just watched it on youtube.
Oh, sure, but you know, not everywhere
I'd love to see more games with unique art styles and not just ultra-realistic whatevers
I guess that is true, turning on path tracing is good for ultra-realism but it kills game graphics visual creativity. I do understand that. Like game visuals are meant to be a way for game creators to demonstrate creativity, not make everything look super real. That I can agree with.
stutterlands 4 with that cartoonish look destroying ur gpu anyway;
Poor nvidia cant handle bl4
the ragebait from this AMD shill cant be any worse
the phantom spirit is more expensive no?
PA is
just lower ur graphics settings
Poor 5090 cant run the game great
why are we throwing insults at GPUs at this point lmaooo
this conversation is getting really funny ngl
Bc thats what Randy did
unfortunately, get used to that here
randy pitchford, head of gearbox
yo dont associate me with that piece of trash
Why randy
im just stating the facts and differences
Like cpu or gpu side?
I was poking at zabanyae since hes one sided heavily
nvidia on their way to do more AI slop:
AMD trying to catch up in encoders and decoders:
Intel trying not to lose money:
I don't know who's who lol.
My bad.
might sound like im some nvidia shill to some but rly im just stating the facts on who’s better- and the marketshare proves it. Im no AMD hater but other than undervolting and pricing they really dont shine anywhere else, drafting behind nvidia
Very realistic take!
I also have my own nvidia complaints- But they arent towards the company itself, these “company situations shenanigans and shit” is beyond whatever saving you think
If theres valid reasoning, Ill hear you out unless its the same thing repeated over 4000 times about price:performance and release drivers. All 3 companies have had their hiccups and Ive dealt with them
Keep reading this chat, you will see all kinds of cope tbh (and they wouldn't realise when you have experience with each).
Pricing I'd say is a huge part in customer's choice, especially nowadays
Its indeed one factor, but it isnt the entire picture
Sure, but it's a huge factor nonetheless
Also Linux support, where AMD shines way better than Nvidia
Not for long anymore with all the upcoming changes in vulkan

Which again, is a niche market
Trying to find the slides later when I’m back
Drivers crash a ton in windows 10/11, lots of bsod with nvidia kernel error codes, power connectors are a very common weak point, rtx 5000 series has been suffering capacitors blowing up a lot lately, these are all my reasons for avoiding the 5000 series
i love how capacitors have nothing to do with nvidia and its just on AIB using shitty capacitors
power connectors are only a weak point with cards above 400w
And any 12vhpwr connector that melted with 5090s are rare.
Tbh have not had a single issue like that with my 5080 in win 11
12vhpwr is a dogshit connector tho, no defending that
Really is. Any time someone defends it with any reason at all i just eyeroll and ignore it
Like it would be a well specced connector at like 350 watts
Capacitor failures happening on 5070, 5070ti, 5080, 5090 is something to worry about too. Same capacitor on the exact location for every brand even nvidia founders edition
Or you know. Stick with the proven 6/8 pin connectors
Yea
for the camera nerds https://www.youtube.com/shorts/XBHiVVhvUtw
8 pin pcie can handle more power than 12vhpwr iirc
But it is specced really low since the spec is so old
@steady sail 12vhpwr is a headroom of just 10%
It can handle ~350W, but be specced to 150W
It's not unexpected to see that much variance with crimped connectors
Oh yea nvm, 2 can handle more than 12vhpwr
Which is specced to 660 from molex
And evdently that is about what it can do physically
