i dont now so much about teck and pc and some stuff
typical cycle
thats why I'm telling you how to check
can't tell you if you can fix anything without knowing what the hardware is
Oh damn, I didn't know, congrats
tyty kiddos already like 1 yo
welp guess his laptop died
Digital Foundry is now fully independent! Join the DF Supporter Program and support the team: https://bit.ly/3jEGjvx
Cyberpunk 2077 was impressive on Switch 2 but Ubisoft Red Lynx and Ubisoft Massive take things a step forward with a hugely impressive port of Star Wars Outlaws for Switch 2. Hardware-accelerated RT, DLSS, high output resolutions...
Impressive
My isp just told me I have to divide wifi speed by 4 (amount of people) like whaaa how do they get a job there
So devide 60 by 4 to get wifi speed per person 😅
Weird
very noice, from game looking like ps3 to looking like ps4. With more optimization, maybe in a year or 2, games and console going to be optimized to make it look like late ps4/early ps5 game.
boy do I love ps4 looks when ps6 is about to be here
it's a handheld
its got a docked mode
indeed
you aint going to see ps5 style in handheld mode
if game play good, I don't mind
Still nice for people who only own a switch
not nice that it costs about the same as a modern ps though lmao
Can you take your ps on the go? No
you could also put better hardware in so its more efficent and can do better when docked
ampere as a gpu generation was kinda shit for low power in comparison
ada lovelace would've been nice
You're right we should buy a 1000$ rog ally instead
What a great alternative 🤣
why are you just making up points nobody said
nintendo could just do what console makers used to do and sell them at a slight loss so the hardware isnt garbage in comparison
The hardware is fine for the price
Steam deck 256gb + steam deck dock cost me around the same
And the steam deck official dock was one of the worse piece of shit i purchased
Still can't believe valve even sells it
And before you say i coulda gotten a third party dock for lessi got the official one specifically to avoid issues xD
the deck is selling like 1/100th of the units
ok and? Steam makes 30% profit on games
that means they cant get stuff as cheap due to lower quantity so the comparison doesnt make sense
lmao
ah yes valve can't get subsidized parts
from their massive profits
Give me a fucking break
if you order 1 million or 100 million parts, yes there is a difference in cost
and we dont know if the deck is sold with margin, loss or parity
We just know gaben called the pricing painful
its also released in 2022 using tech from 2020/2021, switch 2 in 2025 is using 2020 tech
also pretty sure the deck had a 399 option
the switch 2 isnt impressive at all xd
more like last decades hardware
On an asus b650-a rog strix gaming wifi motherboard, will i be fine if i fill all three of the nvme slots with m.2 ssd’s or would i run into slower speeds from the ssd’s or slow my cpu down ?
7600x3d cpu.
no
you never slow the cpu down and if slots deactivate other slots you read that in the board manual
Alright ill try to find that in the manual ty.
So it says 1 and 2 are ran by cpu and unhindered by speed. Slot 3 is linked to my second pcie x16 gpu slot marked slot #2 my gpu is in slot #1 i have no plans to use slot #2 and it says its active at full speed on nvme slot 3 as long as pcie slot #2 is unused. So i should be fine to use all 3 nvme slots?
yes
Thank you. Adding two sk hynix p41 platinum 2tb drives
Hey guys so I’m trying to put the SSD into this adaptor but it won’t go in
you put it int he right one, angle it a little bit from the top at first, pus it in and then you can push it down to screw it in place
What part doesn't go in exactly?
This is as far as it goes
Costs more rn but they have a 4tb version hmmmmmm
Wiggle it
Learn how to install your M.2 SSD drive with this simple tutorial. We won't dig into everything about these drives and will be showing you just how to install them. Straight and to the point.
Some motherboards use screws to hold the M.2 down and others use a retaining clip like ours.
Depending on the M.2 and the motherboard things may look s...
Up and down or side to side? Lmfao
try that timestamp it shows how to install it
Side to side gently dont force it
It will gently work itself in just be very gentle its fragile
That pcie nvme adapter might be out of spec though?
you can see he applys some force in that video but not a ton
Yeah idk I’m trying but can’t seem to get it
I got it in lmao
Now this stuff do I need all of this or what?
That pcie adapter is out of spec im thinking
Spare parts.
Like I don’t need it?
You got it in right? Its fine
Spare thermal pads screws and spare sata cable. Un needed
yes you shouldnt need the other parts, thats for if you have a sata ssd on it
since you have just the nvme ssd on it the pcie slot alone should suffice
Okay but now idk what screw I need for the SSD
Look in your box. See the plastic wrapped screws?
The small black ones with the silver standoffs. Use one black screw to secure the ssd. Be careful with it
These?
Also I found the instructions but yall said I didn’t need this stuff correct? Also in videos I looked at they never sued this stuff
The other ones
Can't hurt to add.
Am I good now?
yup
you can, those are the things closing the panel on the backside but only if you want them there
I’m confused I wanted to try putting it in but I don’t think it fits
It goes in here right? I was told last time
No. Lookup your motherboard manual
On m2 spot
I have a B45 tomahawk max but I don’t know where
That's pcie ports
no he doesnt have an extra m2 slot
thats why hes using the adapter
OOH
so yes the pcie slot is where you put it
But it doesn’t go in 😂😂
Thats explainz
Can I hop in a call with someone 😂😂
I got it in but it’s lowkey loose
Yes I know my pc is dirty rn
If this part is in and stuff am I good to turn on the pc?
Did you lie your pc flat?
No
I never put in a GPU
This video shows me tug it a bit and wiggle the parts that like don’t go in
Did it click
If it did, it should be in
Aren't you missing a bracket to screw it in place? Like this
They said I didn’t need it
If I turn the pc on and it isn’t fully in it just won’t work right? But nothing like bad can happen?
you technically dont need it but i like to install it anyway so it fits more snugly
It will boot up notice its shorting since not fully seated then shut down on its own
I mean I guess you don't but if you ever move your pc it's best if it's just held in place...
Who said you don't need it? and do you have it? If you have it might aswell use it 🙂
Really? Even tho my os is on my other SSD?
I do have it
I mean if it shorts, your pc not booting up is the best thing that's gonna happen 🥲
So just use it 😄
But nothing bad happens to the the pc it’s self right?
Nothing bad will happen your pc just wont post
Okay
I had a pc where i couldnt figure out why it was shutting down on bootup for the longest time. The power cable for the cd drive wasnt fully pushed in. Pushed it in and it booted
It booted
Pc’s have room for error to prevent damage
Did it post and go into windows
I’m in now
Nice
What's your source for pcie short circuit protections btw?
Aren’t I supposed to see it here?
My personal experience with previous builds lol
New volume e
Hm
You short pcie slots that often...?
I can’t remove the adaptor until the Pc is off even tho it’s not reading it right?
No this was way back in the 90’s when i was a complete noob
fair enough, though if something shorts is is always possible something breaks, short circuit protection is, even if it's present unlikely to be advertised.
I feel like pc hardware was harder to kill back in those days too
Isint shorting issue mainly on psu
Depends on the short
It was. Hardware back then was more durable for sure
Didnt have these bs tiny fragile pins that bend and break easy
well, what feeds the motherboard, psu, but psu will likely have short circuit protection though if it survives a short circuit I'm not sure it might just burn a fuse. But it could break a small little component on a motherboard it just depend on what you short and what breaks because of it.
Had thick solid connectors that were built like tanks
larger manufacturing process on chipsets and parts in general too, and things ran a bit higher in voltage
My i5 2500k took 5.7ghz and an insane amount of voltage. I wanna say 1.75v? 1.5v? Its been so long
5.3ghz?
It was all high numbers for its time and was stable
How many Watts tho
cpus in the 90s had vcores around 2-3.6v
Guys what do I do since it’s not reading it?
9070xt for 650 cad is pretty good right
nothing like todays wattage ofc but its typically the volts that causes esd damage
Is the sk hynix p41 platinum bad due to the write issues?
rip fancontrol and openrgb (and so on)
Anyone know what I can do to get it to read the adaptor and SSD?
When I put it in there is no click or nothing
Adaptor SHOULD automatically have drivers installed, if you're using Windows?
Still have to format the SSD via the disk manager though
It won’t show it there
- Open "Device Manager" and hit refresh. See if anything pops up.
Tab looks like its pushed down still? I cant tell
it was lol but i closed it
It was only open for the photo rq
But yeah no like feedback when putting it in and I decided to boot back up rn and it still won’t detect it so idk what to do now
Go to disk manager see if you can find it in there to format and partition it
Device Manager doesn't show it at all?
inb4 inserted the wrong way around
That's not device manager.
it jsut shows my ssd and HD
I thought this is where I go to see it
the bottom also clearly can scroll so there might be a third disk
still no
I see what you mean that it scrolls like if a 3rd is supposed to be there but it isn’t
No one said I did 😂😂
the circle part
goes to the back of the case
not to the latch
also please use the port below the one you put it in
Wym the back? Like the circle part faces my glass panel
so you cant do it the wrong way round
no your ssds basically hang off the card
LOL
Wym?
oh wait your port below is 1x
just turn it 180degrees
the fingers that were circled in the image you sent? the gold ones? those go towards the back of your PC
I dont mean to laugh ive been here before but im laughing
Ive made similar mistakes
So the way it is rn is wrong
Its just funny when people mess up lol
i hope it didnt fry anything
Yes
So my SSD hands upside down
unsure what the pins at the end are but they might just be data
yes
it hangs from the card
it doesnt sit ontop
Pretty sure pcie is low power data and he needs to plug power into that 4? Pin socket
So he should be fine
Whats the connector for then
Probably a "just in case" connector if I had to guess.
\its not x16 so 25w
sata
Oh is the extra power in the additional lines? I thought those were purely data. TIL
purely spec limited
all the power pins are in the first 20

I’m tryna put it in now but it doesn’t actually go in
but thats why x8 gpus have x16 connectores
they are pci sig compliant if they only had x8 and need 75w of slot power
its the same reason 6 and 8 pin have the same number of 12v lines, its to spec the device
Also when I do “put it in” and latch it lmfao it comes out pretty easily when I tug on it to see that it’s actually in
if youre motherboard has 2 x16 slots it has to be able to send 75w to both
it has no latch
if it has 7 x16 slots it has to have 75w for all 7
thats why
So it’s fine that it’s doing that?
its a cheap adatper withouth a bracket
for screwing in the backside
no
yes
the connector isnt in right
What part?
its like way too far right
Ok
there is a small bridge in the connector to the left
that goes where the gap is between the golden pins
ignore the text in the image
I can’t go left tho because the red circle part doesn’t allow me
that should be past the socket
boosted contrast so you can see what needs to line up
and yeah that shouldnt be inside the socket
wait i even picked the wrong one
thats the part that should go outside
there we go
also please dont turn the pc on until its in right
Like this?
looks fine
all the pins are pushed outward that should be
as in there is a card making contact with them
Doing it this was required more force to get it in. Is that okay?
yes
it should be kinda snug
its not breaking amounts of force just overcome friction force
I boot up now?
yes
No yeah I made sure to slowly increase force 😂😂I’ve seen videos of people breaking ram slots
Oh it shows power now
I never knew it had a light
yeah cause its connected to the power pins in the "front" of the connector
the small section
Normally I’m not this brain dead with tech but PC parts is where I suck 💀
what is this?
it means it found your disk
do gpt and ok
then it shows up as unformatted in the disk list and you can create a partition NTFS formatted on it
chose a drive letter you like
yeah the defaults are fine
meybe change the label
basically names the disk for how it shows up in "my computer"
damn already did it
can rename it later without formatting dw

the label is stored on disk but the PC really doesnt care what you set as a label as it doesnt use it for anything except showing you the label
so this can be wtv i want?
tin files what
i mean here
Hello! i got wooting 60he and my macros wont work if i press any other button at the same time is there any fix for that? thanks!
i made a typo lol yeah i meant in files
Make a thread in #1019755933959733258 and show your macros.
Thank you so much guys!!
Thanks!
Real quick lol so the second slot here I have I can’t use another SSD like mine right bcs the spot to slide it in is reversed right?
also its telling me this waht do i do?
its keyed differently
you might need to actually pick a drive letter thats not A or B
this might be some microsoft bullshittery
you cna change the letter without formatting as well in disk manager
Yeah it is I had to do the same process I was already doing but through my profile and stuff
ah
are A: and B: still reserved for disk drives and stuff in 2025
anyway no its keyed differently
Okay
one is m.2 B key thats the left one on the pic and one is m.2 m key which is the right one
usually m key is nvme and b key is sata
so if you install smth in the other slot youll prob need the sata cable port and connect a sata cable from there to a port on your motherboard
Probably just trying to use the drive root for games, which is verboten.
Windows gets pissy with non admin specific rights to do anything in root these days. Gotta be a subfolder.
This look legit?
graphics card
Yeah he’s selling for 650 cad
Which is a lot below market price
Go to amazon, generate and invoice on one of your orders and compare the two and decide for yourself
Looks funky to me idk
does it matter whicdh end of an ethernet cable is plugged into what?
Yes, one end goes in the internet machine and the other end goes in the not internet machine
Yes 9070 xt
@bright briar hows my build
no i told him what to buy
And he did xd
that was like 2 days ago though
yes
he went to the store
he's in the us
makes sense
they're lucky there they're not stuck ordering everything online smh
Does it look clean enough to look like a prebuilt
I drove to microcenter built it same day
Thought for a second that warning sticker was gonna say "No Lysol allowed"
I was tempted to write that on it
Sucks to suck
I helped order a custom PC for my friend in Korea and it was built and at his door 6 hours after he ordered it
Asians be asianing
evga mouse the fuck
yea they aren't exactly a new player in that space
and the X12 is already 3 years old
Evga still exists?
Yes, they weren't exclusively a GPU vendor.
It was, however, the majority of their business.
I swear I read somewhere that they were so choked by nvidia their profit margin was like $4 on some card (dont remember which)
It was that being an AIB partner with NVIDIA was just difficult.
NVIDIA probably could freeze out the entire mainstream AIB business if they really wanted to.
https://youtu.be/ladCeM1wZqc?si=AlGANo-Ae1nQrP8M they call me 007 (0 kills 0 deaths 7 times the plot armour)
Check out the 007 First Light gameplay trailer for this upcoming espionage action-adventure game. Meet the characters in this new 007 First Light trailer, which showcases gameplay, gives a peek into the story, and more. 007 First Light launches on PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on March 27, 2026.
In 007 First Li...
Looks like a low budget splinter cell with a 007 skin over it. Dollar tree version of splinter cell. Im good
007 games were better as nightfire and agent under fire
I do but i dont. Todays ubisoft would mess it up so bad
Ubi should sell a few of their IPs
Id rather see blackfoot studios make a new splinter cell game. Let the og devs make it
Sell all tom clancy to the og’s at blackfoot studios
Thats not gonna happen
I wish though
Ye gods this thing is difficult to read. I just want a good PSU man xD
I would love to see a complete other and newer studio make a Splinter Cell game
Idk its waaaay too complicated
2024 corsair rmx 750/850/1000w
The atx 3.1 psu
Only gold though...
Do you need platinum?
Titanium? Whatever the higher cert is
Yes - Because I pay the power bill, and Power isn't cheap in Denmark 😄
Better list mansen
It's almost three years out of date - So I don't agree with "better" 😄
Be quiet's never let me down warranty wise, so the Power Zone 2 could be an option. Even if it doesn't get an A tier ranking. Not like I'm running a 5090 and a 24 core Ryzen though 😄
850w? 1000w?
850W so I have a chance of upgrading GPU to something larger later in case I need to. I thought my current PSU was 750W but it turns out it was 650W all along.
Jonnyguru is at corsairs psu department
Corsair is king of psu because of him
Will come with sleeved cables and all
Hmm... tempting. As much as I loathe supporting Corsair, it does seem to get really good reviews. Definitely doesn't need to be small factor though 😄
the psus are good
He said he wants platinum
Tbh i would just overspend on my PSU and go with a SuperFlower/Seasonic/SilverStone
I have heard of a few issues with 12V rail dying
I only like corsair for psu nothing else at all. Jonnyguru is king of psu
would honestly ignore 80+ ratings
All three brands dropped off in quality
and just look at cybernetics
He said he wants it. Not me
Thats why i recommended the new rmx850
I use it purely for power usage efficiency, not a stamp of quality 😄
But he insisted on platinum but the new rmx850 is the best psu
I pay around 100€ a month in electricity, and I don't need that to change where possible, heh.
I have this exact psu
Has a knob on the back to manually control the fan or turn it off for auto fan
Comes with good sleeved cables
yea cybernetics has also updated standards for efficiency to cover not-so edge cases like idle
is this normal: 7600x3d
Sure?
Yes. My cpu usage is the same. Same cpu
When using wootility.
chromium moment
it isnt even open
@reef patrol get this psu
it shouldn't ever go to tray afaik
like in the background or something
yea just kill it with taskmanager
That's the problem - Wootility sometimes bugs out in rare instances, and the debugger that runs is eating up CPU. Force close it.
thats gold tho
it shouldn't linger around after closing it
Whatever we use to run the browser (I forgot what it's called), will sometimes randomly start a debugger (when the app is closed). It's a frustrating issue we're trying to squash for good.
thank you so much for the help ❤️ ❤️
Chromium?
electron presumably?
Electron, yeah.
Hopefully once we get the background service up and running, we'll have a better way to diagnose and force close it? Not really my department 😄
anyways, if you really want platinum you should prob check how much a prime platinum or a leadex VII platinum Pro is for you atm
not the browser, the software framework
When will wootility be an installable app
it is
It's been since... 2016 😄
kinda
It still runs a browser window so to speak, but it IS an app.
oh wtf
some amazon seller is selling the Silverstone Sst-ST1000-PTS - Strider for 120€
that is a stupid good deal
oh wait nvm
that was the horrible strider 💀

Bro wtf i was thinking in my head how i wanna get back into osrs didnt even type it anywhere or say it out loud nothing only thought it. 3 min later osrs ads keep poppign up
Thats legit creepy and weird
Alright. One RMX purchased.
ehhh
the e is technically better than the x
even though corsair doesn't wanna admit that
still good tho regardless
yea dw
very minute changes
the regular rm, rmx and rme basically only exist for marketing reasons
they are different but there is no real reason for all 3 lines to exist
And now a week of mentally preparing for a total teardown of my PC (well almost) and recabling everything 😄
It'll be interesting to see if I still have all the screws for my 3080 to turn it back on air (noisy as it is)

Thats the X12, i have three of them, good mouse actually.
Phew... my wallet's feeling a lot lighter now. Total cost of upgrade (ignoring any tubing and coolant I have already on hand) 9070XT comes to.... 1080€
For the GPU, PSU and Waterblock.
The 3080 lasted... 4 years and change. Not bad tbh. And I guess my SO can inherit it for her Sims gaming 😄
The rmx850 i linked?
The 2024 gen 3.1 one yeah
Sweet! Its an awesome psu. I love being able to fine tune the fan for it with a knob. Makes me miss my old build with fan controllers on the front where the disk drive bays were
Which 9070 xt did you get in particular
1% difference check how each performs in the games you wanna play
Ah ok tu
Im seeing the rme is a b+ psu while the rmx is an a+ psu?
Uhh the Reaper.
Doesn't really matter which one, since it's going on water anyway.
Oh?
I got a strat
I buy 4090 for one thousand pounds
Then buy of the rest of the parts
Im more interested in that sexy beast to the left
Most based take i read recently
Ye
Ongoing project to turn a dead Mac Classic into a Raspberry Pi based retro machine.
She even has a floppy disk drive
I love it. That brings back childhood memories mansen
My very first video gsme was played on one of those translucent macs with the rainbow apple logo
Only thing to keep in mind, if you do that with a tight budget, you can run into bottlenecks quick, make sure your CPU/memory/mobo is scaled accordingly
Yeah the G3. Used to have one. Replaced it with the early G4 Imac, which I still have somewhere.
Ok dw I will get 9800x3d
Ohh ok
Yep that one
Don't get the cheapest mobo there is either though :D
I keep my G4 around to play old Mac games that can't be emulated (yet)
I live in England ):
My condolences
Damn thats rough
I don't have time to research it for you, but try to find some X870 or X870E midrange atleast, anything that doesn't kill CPUs and has good components on them (specifically voltage regulation components should be the more quality).
Not sure who does deep component analysis, maybe BZ still does that.
Ye I’m cooked
Alr thanks
Atleast now I can research bc I finished my homework for med school
X870 is a waste of money unless you need something specific from there
I want WiFi 6e
Just hardwire it. Wifi 6e is a scam
I noticed nothing going from wifi 5 to 6e
Ah ok nvm I got Ethernet anyway
B850 will have WIFI6e too, like MSI B850 GAMING PLUS WIFI6E
I see a 5080 for 700 pounds should I get that
I have asus rog strix b650-a gaming wifi and its a solid motherboard
How much was that?
It was in a combo from microcenter
Oh
Hopefully I get visa to live in Texas bro
Its $200 retail i got it for $136.32 in the combo package
Yeah I’m cooked
I need to travel to USA
But 5080 is a solid card right)
Sure is
Sure if you like nvidia. Im amd bias
I don’t mind I just want best performance for 1000 pound s
I wish amd release something like the 9080 xt
Me too
9070 xt is solid
@viral hatch You can find affordable choices for both chipsets, the B one is more targetted towards budget, and X for enthusiast.
But finding the latter midrange with good components and features is totally affordable and viable, if you can find a B thats comparable and doesn't have worse quality components put on it (usually they do, that and feature cuts are what makes them relatively more affordable) then you can totally get away.
The approach should first of all always be, what CPU and GPU i'm getting, and only secondarily what budget i have.
You should be scaling your choices from top to bottom, not vice versa.
Ah ok
My max budget is 1800 and my graphics card is 700
X chipset is only if you go for overclocking
B is good for 99% of choices
No, nobody said anything about OC
X chipset is for more lanes before it’s for more OC headroom
I went into detail what to look for in fact
Yeah, and that's why there's no reason to go for X chipset
B850 is your fren
There is reason, you just personally don't care to understand it
Ok (:
Explain then
Becuase as for right now all I see last few days is you spreading misinformation and pushing X870 on everyone
Motherboards are simple, you check what connectivity is needed then just sort by ascending price and for 99% of people b650/b850 is the cheaper option that does the same
Am getting this
I'm not spreading anything, this is the first time i'm talking about X870 specifically, my only interest is to help others with my own experience and knowledge.
All good as long as everyone stays unbiased
(btw Wooting the best, no bias here fr fr)
Ye wooting diffs
You can just get an air cooler for like 30 and it does the same
Rlly?
Yeah
Is this good?
Water cooling is completely unnecessary for these cpus
For 9800x3d
Would have to look, thermalright has the best cheap ones usually
Peerless assassin or phantom spirit for example
Anything with a open front so it’s good for airflow
Get liquid cool
That should be the goal, and helping people make informed decisions and to research.
You could also get the Thermalright Frozen Notte 240 or 360, very affordable yet competitive AiO.
So no need to choose between price and air/liquid.
Yeah but you’re just adding pump noise and options for the tubing to leak and all for no gain really
Air cooler you can use probably for the next decade+
I hear nothing of this pump, leak is nearly zero chance, and your CPU can get several degrees less, especially in the summer.
Which equals holding clocks longer or higher possibly.
Doubt it since I don’t imagine you reach 95c and am5 cpus can go all out against the thermal limit as design choice
I pushed mine to 90C yesterday
Then the fan kicked in
So, Linus and Linus might make a video.
torvalds
aka torvalds is going to regret with how many people will interact with him afterwads from the ltt crowd
Yeah, could be fun.
From the sounds of things he might not like interacting with the LMG staff.
inb4 the worshiped guy goes on video and millions of people get to learn the lesson of "don't meet your heros" at once
idk if anyone is delusional about torvalds being the nicest guy ever they never used linux
hes not a monster by any means but hes an engineer not LTT host person xD
Yeah, it'll be interesting to hear what goes down.
It's enough to see one mail from lists
Linus and Linux
Linus might be building Linus a Linux computer.
not sure what that means
It just looks like a computer.
If anything prebuilts can be messier than doing it yourself 😄
the cables above the cpu cooler does not, the rest looks reasonably tidy
buy a prebuilt> find out the prebuilt has a gigabyte psu and that its explosive by a friend
Well fuck.
(im that friend)
I just don't buy prebuilt because its more expensive and you don't get to decide on specific parts
https://www.claimdepot.com/settlements/ddr4-and-ddr5-desktop-memory-speed-settlement this might interest US citizens
God sometimes lawsuits are so dumb
Pointless outcome that mostly fills the lawyers pockets and maybe some people get 5$
Very vague reasoning given - Is this just selling RAM with XMP speeds, instead of JEDEC?
Sound like it
While I agree that the whole thing could be handled a LOT better by manufacturers and standard makers, this is just stupid. Corsair aren't the ones making decisions here, they're literally just following norms.
Yeah the topic has issues but Corsair isn’t at fault really but still cheaper to settle I guess for them
what a truly impressive lawsuit when these are your sources, almost feel sorry for corsair..
for once its not america its just lawyers going for money where the topic can be abused well enough so the other side woudl rather just settle
that looks like corsair was like “whatever”
its a big company so im not sad about it but its still stupid and just wasted lawyer/court time and money
this is like the only time im siding with corsair apart from their sfx psus
A bunch of pc noobs buy ram never knowing that xmp is a thing
I think it's genuinely problematic
Exactly. And it takes knowledge that not all motherboards and CPUs support all RAM speeds - or indeed all RAM kits from different vendors that have seemingly identical specs.
Nico's friend bought faster corsair ram a year ago and just based himself on the numbers in the packaging, never turned on xmp
Like the way things are marketted really arent clear to the avg person
Especially with cpus using xmp in marketting slides
yeah but its not corsairs faul when intel or amd use xmp for marketing
I know i blame intel and amd more than corsair
so basically what mansen said
- not every cpu can even reach those speeds
Which makes the thing even shittier
I think amd and intel should just stop advertising with xmp/expo on
And telling reviewers they HAVE to use xmp
neither of them are telling that to reviewers
Its literally in the review guides they send out
Which reviewers generally follow
I remember hbu mentionning it
yeah they recommend it because thats what most people do
And GN when the whole expo x3d explotano thjng happenned
and review guides arent a must follow up
neither intel nor amd would stop sampling if they dont follow review guides
GN, kitguru I think and others dont follow them already for a while
Smaller channels probably would
which have less reach so it matters less because less people see that
Still i think both the small guys and the big channels deserve the same amount of leeway
they still dont HAVE to follow guides its just to make it easier and helps validate data if someone gets a different result
People are telling me to liquid cool the 9800x3d should I)
water cooling is stupid overrated
i have my 9800x3d on a like 40 euro cooler and it's fine
it give you like 0 benefits aside from liking the looks
Ok I adding it to cart
Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO
paid 45 euro for it, cools the cpu perfectly fine
possible upsides:
better if you live in egypt I guess
possible donwsides:
anything from pump breaking, fluid leaking, it just not holding as long etc.
dont get that ssd
yeah that ssd looks sus
Which one should I get
whats the prices for a sn850x
p41 platinum is pretty good too
yeah that is a good price usually as well, the p41 I mean
Is 100 for a 2tb
yeah thats a good deal and the sn850x doesnt use the slower memory that the kingston has
it's not as good as the other two we said but it's better than the one you have afaik
look for a crucial t500 as well (still not as good as the first 2 we said)
still using QCL so there will be times where its just slower
As if you notice a difference in ssd speeds
you do, QLC is cheap for a reason
if you copy things or when the lifetime goes down faster
So in day to day, gaming.. Little difference?
well it can be noticed when you install a game or move files around, the small difference in loading screens no but the prices are almost identical
and they have a much worse life expectancy
so its just not worth it
What the fuck is this socket since none of my hex keys wanna go in
Doesn't look like a socket.
Looks like a pin. Does it look like that on the other side?
the top on the other side is flat, bottom looks the same though
doesnt seem like something made to be taken out
thats a rivet, no unscrewing
Rivet, thank you. That's the name I was looking for.
Might be to derivet to pull it apart and then revivet it.
Not sure you'll be able to tighten it though.
Alr I ordered it
It’s arriving in two days
Is it possible that the 5080 super releases very soon
If that’s true I might have to cancel my 5080
Where would I go to report a problem I faced immediately after updating my wootility?
you also have a good deal on your 5080 so its not like you'd be paying same price for that
the 5080 itself is kinda underpowered for native 4k itfp
I can wait for January
if ur in 1440p its the best card for it rn apart from the xx90s
it should be here
Thanks bud
I mean it could be double what you pay for for 5% more
it might not even come out at all
Ye
Lemme find some bids and try and find a 4090
I found a 4090 for 800
Imma cop it
I also found this ssd @ashen spindle
awesome
yeah that one is fine
October
thats random speculation please dont tell people something like its a fact
It's on Guru3d or TPU, i forget which, go check the article.
yes its a rumor
there is nothing official at all anywhere
and they all use the same "source" which is a youtuber that just makes shit up half the time
If it's on there it's pretty much gonna be reality, you are just waiting for NVIDIA to say it.
??? no its not
making an article from a guy whos specualting doesnt make it more real than not
its the same guy who said 5080 was coming out june last year
that sounds like a scam ngl
are you sure it's not "for parts"
feel free to gamble if its a working one I guess
Well I am a black belt in kung fu so if they try to Indians Scam me
Should I go with my police friend
I mean unless you can try it at their place how would you know
Yeah that’s what imma do
You can't test a card in a car boot. Even if it's legit, it might be dead.
up to you I suppose
Ok i will pick it up and test
he’s my fav guy to scam bro trust me frfr
Wdym
i do that all the time
just bring pc and a power bank

Will AM5 be as legendary as AM4?

Broke...
If it’s too good to be true, it probably is
this has been known for a long time
I mean I knew personally
Just sharing it here
I already knew am5 was gonna go on for awhile
O like taking risk is it isn’t it’s fair
ddr6 isnt ready for volume production so no am6
ngl im surprised i get this much on a powerline
oops dupe images
good enough for a garden AP
can't wait for that, wanna see how faster it is for AI
it wont make much difference
i mean, if it can go from 200t/s prefill to 300t/s prefill it's already pretty nice
not to mention the optimization that might be done to the backend when that's ready
issue is dram-cpu-pcie limits
Can it match am4 though, am4 just got the 5500x3d recently
the whole point of cxl, is for pcie-pcie transfers
Man I really want a 5950x3d
even if you move to ddr6 and pcie6, they both are a double in speed
im not talking about gpu inference, I'm talking about pure CPU inference.
There’s always a bottleneck somewhere
apple users, the framework destop, and people who have 2tb of ram to run deepseek
apple has hetero memory so it wont matter anyway
Sadly they called that quits early, but there are better options now
scheduling will also kill having mixed cached size cores
m has wide as fuck hetrogenous memory, not really an issue
Seems like Fancontrol has been flagged as malware
It always is
Yeah, Windows flagged it for me
Already is from several perspectives, people like me just like to keep coping on older platforms
m3 ultra is running the equivalent of 16 channel dram
i mean if you arent running a 5090 at 1080p, you wont notice anything going from a 5800x3d to a 9800x3d
Yeah reading about it right now and seems like MS have started flagging it
if you run 1440 or 4k ultra you get a few percent boost from am5 vs am4
lol yeah, I’m not shaming anyone for being on AM4, it’s a great platform and it’s aged very well comparatively
I was more so just repeating what MLID said
i'm also just joking that time, except i'm actually still on AM4, but not for any performance reasons
Yeah fair enough
Planning to build finally again end of this year (if all goes to plan)
Or if by some miracle i'm patient, the next gen of both CPUs and GPUs
Yeah it surprises me how much people don’t understand cpu scaling
I think it’s a vocal minority tho
they forget consoles exist
I would like to think most people do understand
scaling gpu is way easier than scaling cpu
Yeah
I say you wait for these
Worst case scenario the next gen sucks and you can get what you were planning on anyway for cheaper
They do scale and i think the difference above mentioned is a little bit bigger than presented.
Admittedly as you guys say, CPUs scale much less than GPUs, but then again average citizen isn't running 5090 either.
This will also vary heavily from game to game, plus staying with the older platform (like me) will limit you from things like DDR5.
the wild thing about am4 is the differnce bewteen a 1800x and a 5800x3d
at release the 1800x barely matched a 4790k, and got beat handelly 20%+ by 7700ks
a 5800x3d in the same motherboard would net you like 100% gains in some titles
Theres no hurry really, i have much less time to game with work nowadays. Every decision will depend on how good the hardware is what we get. Ideally just gonna get the top end for both (but i might give it some time for people to "beta" test).
As we probably all know no release is smooth, especially recently.
Yeah that’s why I said just wait to see what comes out, no need to rush into it
Or who knows, maybe the christmas bonus will be so high that i'M just gonna say eff it and build end of the year, and just repeat a year or 1,5 years after again. Afterall thats the problem with being a hardware enthusiast, never satisfied or satiated
That’s how I am lol
dlss has entered the chat

In terms of this game, 9800X3D is only about 6% faster at 1440p
As the test goes on, it end up being 18% faster at 1440p
43% faster for 1% Lows
damn
I be chasing them 1% Lows
very important

I would too, and even if the diff somehow stayed flat +6%, there are still several factors for which i would upgrade.
I'm just glad my 5800x3d is still very playable on bf6. When I played bf1 my 4460 was STRUUGLING.
And a used 4770 was very overpriced at the time
mlid
aka random guess still
even getting zen6 on am5 was a very highly contested battle internally at AMD so zen7 I dont believe for a moment
Yeah AM4 aged well
Hahaha yeah I always take what he says with a grain of salt but it’s fun to speculate
also at that point its not even beneficial for socket longevity anymore
dlss dosent use more cpu though
because if you still use a b650 board for zen7 you dont have boards that can do the memory speeds that would make sense
Yeah true
also you would really be lacking pcie lanes at that point
meanwhile AM5 barely cools down from the production line before it bakes itself
I could see an AM5+ maybe for a higher end with zen6 to have better boards
You referring to the voltage issues like with AsRock boards?
Yeah I wouldn’t mind that
what is the ratio for averge vs 1% though
Lemme grab a screenshot real quick
yep, got to experience it in person the other week
if there is a 20-30% drop in average then its notthat bad
better what
luckily the cpu survived
usable high end pcie lane count
@vagrant pagoda
there isnt more lanes form the cpu without new socket
if you want a platform for more than consumer (1 gpu and 1-2 ssds) am5 is kinda shit
so that isnt gonna do much
there are unused pins on AM5 that could be used on a revision
Oh damn, sorry to hear that, yeah idk what AsRock doing
half of the pins are for testing there arent that many unused
In the early days of AM5 it was mainly ASUS boards but now it’s good and AsRock frying CPUs now
And AsRock is technically part of ASUS so idk
I went to the store with the dead mobo and got a replacement instantly though
That’s good
and am5 supports dual x8 gpus and 2 pcie5 x4 ssds via cpu lanes
flashed it with a day old bios update via usb stick before I even mounted the parts on it so hopefully its patched out now
thats more than 90% of consumers
then you get a gen4 and gen3 ssd off the chipset
yeah hence I said for more than consumer
then youre in threadrippers market lol
because anything higher for a nas or anything intel is the vastly superior option
nope dont need TR to want more lanes
intel gives you 24?
amd gives you 24
idk where you think you get more lanes on consumer
and if i rememeber 4 of the lanes on intel are still 4.0
2 people in the server had issues already lol
@distant tapir also had his 9800x3d chip die in his asrock mobo
did you update your bios
There was a new one like
Last week?
im on 7800x3d
I'm still set on getting a new motherboard when I change case. Asrock lost my trust
Then you're probably fine?
and probably gonna get a different board before getting a 9800x3d
There's still reports but like
only having 3 fan headers is kinda annoying
Its rarer
chispet, intel has double the lanes connected to chipset
Just get a 10 slot fan controller. Plug the header into your cha_fan1 slot and use a sata power cable to the fan header. Thats what i do every time. I dont even bother with the onboard fan headers. Then i can control all my case fans at once instead of individually too
Asus has never ever done me wrong
Gigabyte msi asrock have
I'm set on MSI actually
WHen I look it up, it seems to be the brand people prefer the BIOS of
But also the motherboard I found just looks cool which is a big part
i wanna have more individual control
I didnt like msi when i had two exact gpu’s and they had visually different pcb components and the one that looked cheaper ended up dying and popping and went into flames in my case
Literal exact same sku’s
This was a long time ago but still
dmi 4.0 is 4.0 speed
That sucks, yeah I've been rocking the same board since I got AM5 which is ASUS X670E Hero
so x8 4.0 is the same as x4 5.0
AMD is 4 gen4
actually I lie, I did have an MSI board at first
intel is 8 gen4
no then I wouldnt think its bad for a high end platform xD
I had a MSI MPG X670E Carbon before the ASUS board
That's the exact one I want
Asus motherboards >>>>>>> unless its a tuf asus board then its ass
I liked it a lot besides the dragon on the heatsink
still x4 4.0 lanes isnt killing a setup
Aren’t ASUS tuf boards decent value though?
Never bothered with tuf. I only ever purposely aim for the rog strix line of motherboards
Ah
yea I'm saying for high end its not great, for normal consumer b650 is amazing
I had an msi mobo die in my life and they replaced it free of charge despite being 4 months out of warranty. Msi canada has a repair center in the country and is really good cs wise
but intel isnt markedly better
And i've liked my msi boards the most bios wise and besides that i haven't had many issues
Feels like it would be better to buy a good specced AM5 mobo with how long the AM4 has been supported
See when my msi motherboard died they blamed it on me as the problem and wanted me to pay $450 in repair fees $75 in shipping and basically told me to go f myself. The mobo was a $120 board
Now that I think about it, I've only ever had MSI or ASUS boards
Then again the repair shitnis handled on a country by country basis
I had too many msi problems in the past to recommend them ever again same with gigabyte
The msi repair peeps here are cool
I had msi asus and gigabyte
Asus is the only motherboard make ive never once had a single issue with ever ever. Including warranty and repairs.
Personally looking at X870E but splitting it out over years it's such a small cost
Gigabyte always scared me but I did have a gigabyte 4090 at one point and it was fine
Gigabyte... the bios layout sucked and the rgb software was awful
