Question, has anyone used an AMD RADEON GPU as a primary and used an NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX GPU as a secondary, but ultimately able to use shadowplay? I don't really want to explain why my friend wants to do this, but I was hoping someone wpuld be able to help!

ashen spindle
#

use obs?

astral haven
#

In obs its called replay buffer

ashen spindle
#

at least I assume you mean the 2 minute clip saving because shadowplay is long gone as a name

#

and like I guess maybe you could route the output from one gpu to the other and then have that render the overlay and maybe that works? idk that all sounds pointless and frankly dumb without more info

#

because if its not the primary gpu its already additional software so why limit it to the vendor specific tool

astral haven
#

I bet you can plug the monitor into NVIDIA, render on amd, and get shadowplay

#

And that's no additional software besides the NVIDIA app

ashen spindle
#

doesnt even sound like its for encoding

#

oh I guess it would be encoding, encoding just makes me think streaming or processing video not saving clips

astral haven
#

Amd still doesn't do 4:2:2 which is the default compressed pro standard

crimson wigeon
#

But shadowplay better!!!

unkempt lake
#

shit looks basically the same

#

Technically nvidia has the better screen recorder but the one that amd uses has been perfectly fine for a while now

#

Like personally i can't fucking tell

#

Some people can but its just tiny tiny differences

astral haven
unkempt lake
#

Not 7000

#

9000 seriously stepped things up even more

#

Also if it was gonna matter that much to him why did he get a 9070xt????

#

Instead of a 5070 ti???

#

Literally gonna spend more running a second gpu just for recording

#

For visual details that frankly

#

NO ONE will notice

astral haven
#

In fact nvidia only started supporting it on 5000 series

pastel galleon
#

Gaming is done on his 9070 XT Prime but has 2x monitirs which only support HDMI, so this is temporary

astral haven
#

it doesnt, yea just use obs

#

would have to plug in second gpu because none of them have 2xhdmi

#

except some super rare expensive ones

steady sail
#

if he has a iGPU just use that for one of them shrug

pastel galleon
#

He is using his 3060 for now as well for display out and shadowplay to organize clips, because ReLive just shoves everything into an unknown folder

astral haven
pastel galleon
#

he needs 3 monitors but his 9070 XT only has 1x HDMI when 2 of his monitors don't have DP but only HDMI

#

he doesn't have adapters or HDMI to DP cables

astral haven
#

they probably used shadowplay before, and it works great

unkempt lake
#

XD

astral haven
#

it is when you game with the igpu as the display out

#

or leave hardware accel on on anything you put on the other monitor

pastel galleon
#

This is what my friend said

#

maybe it's just the overlays conflicting with eachother

#

I just told him to get used to using relive because the 9070 XT's encoding is very good now

pastel galleon
#

also I asked if he could use his mobo HDMI for one of his secondary monitors

#

he will try that!

Been thinking about upgrading to a proper pc build from the laptop I’ve been using for a bit.

Ive forgotten how much of a pain finding GPUs are

#

I’m honestly between the 5070 or the RX 9070; I’ve found a 5070 FE for msrp but that 12gbs of vram is pretty worrying for 1440p longevity, especially at that price point. The 9070 solves that and should be cheaper but it’s impossible to get one for msrp

old marlin
#

9070 should still be the better deal unless you pay more than the 5070

latent mural
#

I haven’t found a single 9070 at or around msrp, 5070 FE on the other hand is only 545 at my local Best Buy

#

I would go 9070 blindfolded otherwise but I just can’t get myself to pay 630~ for the card, let alone the XT version which should only be 50 bucks more

ashen spindle
#

Yeah it’s a gamble if there price will get to msrp or if tariffs continue to fuck that in the us

We went to upgrade our backup servers with Arm, but ran into a snag after building them. After updating them to AMD EPYC 8004 "Siena", we realized this is exactly what enterprises are running into today with their hybrid cloud environments.

ashen spindle
#

ehhh that very much depends, if you look at idle efficency on gaming desktop from amd, sure, otherwise it very handily beats arm in efficency

#

n100 or if you want more power arrow lake then, super low idle and vastly more pcie or other stuff

#

only reason you see bad idle is due to amd's cheap approach to chiplets, the io die hogs power

#

more advanced packaging costs more and is what we get with zen6, same thing as strix halo, so technically thats also great for idle but lacks pcie lanes and doesnt make much sense for most homelabs

#

yee unless you have like 0 pcie stuff attached that io die isnt powering down (also dont even know if the client io die can power down that far)

#

if you want low idle and efficent IO arrow lake is probably the best option, just need to make sure you get boards that have working ASPM

#

uhhh dont know what the limitations are on that but doesnt sound like something I heard issue with

#

if its worth it cost wise and all idk

#

I know the 265k has been on massive sales for weeks now but if its just light homelab use thats overkill still

#

yeah for low power n100 is probably still the best tiny cpu, or just any somewhat recent intel cpu from used servers

#

has qsv for video stuff, does proper low power etc.

Dear malware maker, I would kindly request you to bugger of from the AUR and move to such places where malware is more socially acceptable, such as the snap store, promoted links in google, the Microsoft store, play store, or even Itch.io.

digital cliff
#

guess I'm just not using AUR soon if it becomes like this

thick elk

It always was a place pretty light on security, there is a reason Arch never includes aur helpers in their main repo's. But so far it has been mostly safe in practice, this looks like that may change.

Some packages are so outdated, and yet suggested by snap, that they drag old libraries with themselves, effectively killing parts of your OS

I wouldn't mind snap if it was a choice during installation, just like Debian allows to pick a DE during installation

ashen spindle
#

No I think it doesn’t matter what asrock or whoever say if stuff breaks you have a very easy refund option

plush stirrup
#

They don't have to refund only replace

fair gull
#

not in the eu? pretty sure eu law says you get a replacement or refund

plush stirrup
ashen spindle
#

Point is you get warranty to cover your issue very easily and doesn’t matter what anyone says who they want to deal with

plush stirrup
fair gull
reef patrol
#

I think they adjusted it recently? But it was first six months, seller has to prove you blew it up, last 18 months, you have to (reasonably) argue the defect was there at time of purchase, and wasn't something you did.

plush stirrup
#

But hidden defects, the burden of proof is you

#

Source: ECC

#

In EU countries had to choose between 12 or 24 monts I think

#

And I live in Belgium

pastel galleon
fair gull
#

hidden defect or not doesnt matter in eu law though

#

it just when you noticed the defect compared to when you bought it

#

and im pretty sure country laws cant loosen up EU laws just tighten them down

plush stirrup
reef patrol
#

It basically boils to that the shop either accepts your RMA claim - Or they claim you did something you shouldn't have because SEE DOCUMENTATION AND ARGUMENT HERE

In which case if it's beyond the first six months (here), then you have to argue that you did no such thing. And if you can't agree with them, you'll have to take it up in small claims court (usually consumer rights orgs have a service where you pay an amount upfront, and they will handle the entire thing and get your money and "deposit" back)

plush stirrup
# fair gull hidden defect or not doesnt matter in eu law though

But that's to end the purchase, you can do that for hidden defects, warranty doesn't make a distinction between hidden defects or not, but if you want to get a refund based on the hidden defect part of the law, you have to prove it. To just get it replaced you don't have to prove anything

fair gull
#

so the only thing i can find specifically mentioning the burden of proof being on the buyer is after 1 year

for up to one year following the purchase, the buyer would not need to prove that the good was faulty at the time of delivery (the burden of proof is reversed in favour of the consumer). For instance, currently, if a consumer discovers that a product he/she purchased more than six months ago is defective and asks the trader to repair or replace it, he/she may be asked to prove that this defect existed at the time of delivery. Under the proposed rules, throughout a one-year period, the consumer would be able to ask for a remedy without having to prove that the defect existed at the time of delivery.

plush stirrup
#

Burden of proof is 2y in Belgium

fair gull
#

this is from 2018

plush stirrup
#

AI is wrong about the 6 months but right about the other part

fair gull
#

it says those apply after the 2 years

plush stirrup
#

Not if you specifically want a refund

#

You can't demand a refund under warranty law, only under the hidden defect clause

fair gull
#

no you can definitely ask for reimbursment/refund under EU law

plush stirrup
#

X doubt, at least here you can't

fair gull
#

so belgium is breaking eu law?

plush stirrup
#

Unless ECCBelgium lied to me

fair gull
#

they even state that their old hidden defects rule gives you LESS options with only price reduction or refund available

#

aka it just strikes the repair/replacement options

#

thats the normal legal guarantee claims you can make in the EU

#

during the 2years

plush stirrup
#

"Note that the burden of proof for a hidden defect lies with the consumer, and that is why the statutory warranty is usually invoked during the warranty period. In that case, the seller must always find a solution (replacement or repair), and the burden of proof lies with the seller."

When you complain
We handle all cases thoroughly and properly, and when you send a complaint to one of the boards at Nævnenes Hus, we'll keep you updated on how things are going.

A case worker at the Appeals Board will review the documents in your case and prepare it for processing. If any information is missing from your case, the case worker will contact you. Others besides the person who filed the complaint may also be asked to provide information for the case. Normally, all parties to a case will have the opportunity to comment on the information in the case before a decision is made.

When the case worker assesses that all the necessary information is available, the case worker prepares the case for a decision and writes a draft decision. As part of the preparation, the case worker will request your comments or those of others on the information in the case, if relevant. A decision is then made on the outcome of the case. When your complaint case is closed, you will receive a decision stating the outcome of the case and the reasons for it.*

reef patrol
#

Law differs between countries.

#

The only thing that is truly dicated across the union is the base 2 year warranty - not what happens if a seller refuses to abide.

plush stirrup
#

But if shipped to denmark, danish laws apply within EU, though seller can still refuse, and if they do so it's difficult to get them to comply. I think the complaints platform is the same as ECCBelgium, if it is, they will just make suggestions, they can't force the webshop to do anything.

#

I would assume if they refuse you take them to court in Denmark for not following Danish laws, yet shipping to Denmark.

I feel like eccbelgium changed their site, some google hits return 404 errors :c

I am thinking of getting a laptop with an AMD AI Max 385 or 395 (man that names is way too long), anyone know if I should consider anything before nabbing it

A complication of the laptop I am planning on, is that it needs a physical TPM, which is provided in a minority of laptops.

reef patrol
nimble arch
#

is that it needs a physical TPM
But why?

lunar elm
nimble arch
#

Even on desktop boards with TPM headers, you just use the firmware TPM instead.

lunar elm
#

I fugging want one :V

nimble arch
#

But why?

#

What's the actual reasoning?

fair gull
nimble arch
#

MY X670E motherboard has a TPM header but the UEFI defaults to the fTPM on the CPU shrug_weeb

reef patrol
#

Laptops, Johners, Laptops 😄

#

Having CPUs presoldered onto desktop motherboards is a lot more rare, outside of the specific segment.

nimble arch
#

Yeah but I was talking about desktop boards to begin with

#

You even replied to the message mentioning desktop boards KEKW

umbral heron
fair gull
#

so.... someone trying to get a laptop gets a response about desktop stuff

#

aka unrelated

reef patrol
#

I'm so confused 😄

#

Motherboards having TPM headers have nothing to do with the CPUs - cause they're not preinstalled, unless you're looking at those compact, factory/media style motherboards with low power laptop'ish preinstalled, soldered CPUs 😄

fair gull
nimble arch
#

Swap the TPM module with every hardware ID ban? shrug_weeb

fair gull
#

is it even part of the hardware id?

nimble arch
#

I don't know.

umbral heron
#

Every single hardware bit in your PC has HWID hanaconfuse

fair gull
#

ye but the fun part is games and AC can pick and choose which is relevant for a HWID ban

umbral heron
#

I'd expect as much as they can scrape from PC
At least GPU, CPU and motherboard

fair gull
#

ive only ever tried circumventing forza horizon HWID bans and they banned storage HWID nothing else it seemed

umbral heron
#

Wouldn't expect much from Microsoft duck_bopping

fair gull
#

eh its sufficient imo

#

its hella impractical replacing all your storage disks just to cheat on a new forza account where you have to rebuy the game

#

and if you sell your pc (and most likely remove harddisks etc) the next person isnt caught up in your bs

#

and youd still be banned on your new pc if you take any drive with you

mild dome
#

So yeah needs to be discrete

ashen spindle
#

Well uhh gl finding any that have it

#

Without the tpm requirement the best thing would be to wait for some cheaper models to appear, with it? See if you can find a model with it and hope it doesn’t explode the budget

mild dome
#

Sadly I believe anything that has a discrete tpm tends to cost more due to it being aimed at business needs
Well so far I know that: Elitebook, Zbooks, Thinkpads, Lattitudes, XPS, Surface For Business, and Framework have discrete tpms

umbral heron
ashen spindle
#

Well for stxh there’s only like a handful of laptops, and none of them are cheap or make sense for most people

#

So unless there’s a really good reason why you need stxh it’s probably better to look for something else

mild dome
#

And yeah, Mostly I think I want it because the required software at the company really DRAGS down performance. Like you can't even run a laptop with only 16GB of RAM due to all the security garbage and extensions, and scripts loaded up onto the laptop,

umbral heron
#

Aite, I have no idea what your cybersec team is smoking but sure as hell I want some SwitchySippy
It's the exact same chip, just that it's soldered in CPU and not to motherboard hanaSit

ashen spindle
#

I mean if the company software is so bad I’d not get stxh still just get some better laptop then xD stxh doesn’t provide the best performances for the price you can get it generally

lyric hatch
#

if they really cared about security they would just give you a laptop provided by them

# umbral heron Aite, I have no idea what your cybersec team is smoking but sure as hell I want ...

Not the same chip "soldered in", it's baked into the CPU architecture during design
Company I work at would know shit like this, and googling for an answer myself I keep getting "Firmware TPMs are vulnerable to firmware attacks, whilst discrete tpms are not" so I don't know what to tell you.

However the company is full of people jamming so much software into the laptops that people are coming back to me asking "Hey why does my brand new laptop run like shit after I open 2 chrome tabs, and zoom?" because they couldn't be assed to ask themselves "Should we make sure the standard i5 16GB laptop every employee gets can actually handle the dozen cyber security suites we plan on adding?"

#

But yeah, probably should just leave it. If the poor performance is hitting my productivity than I can just point out that everyone's suffering the same problems
(The hardware team pulled data showing that 90% of employees on the standard laptop were above 85% memory usage)

ashen spindle
#

If you want the best performance with bad software running get a desktop replacement with a desktop chip in it and 64gb or more ram

#

Probably costs less too lmao

mild dome
#

Know any with a discrete tpm?
Or should I get a laptop, cut out the bottom, and glue a mainboard to it like that one guy who made a portable Threadripper?

ashen spindle
#

No clue because there like no point to have it as a discrete thing for 99% if people but I guess they will still list it on the specs table

#

But the cheapest laptop with a 395 is like 2500€ and you can get better hardware for that price lol

fair gull
# mild dome Not the same chip "soldered in", it's baked into the CPU architecture during des...

just to add my 2cents: dTPM is as vulnearable to software attacks. Just look at CVE-2023-1017 and CVE-2023-1018 as well as CVE-2025-49133 (all 3 are issues with the TCG reference implementation).

The dTPM still needs OS/Kernel drivers that talk to it from userland. dTPM is actually more vulnearable as you have direct access to data lines and can in theory spy on it and extract secrects that way.

mild dome
#

Yet it seems that multiple businesses trust a dTPM over a fTPM?

ashen spindle
#

Many things business do is because it looks good on paper not because it’s better

#

As for tpm I don’t know enough to have a strong opinion but I haven’t seen anything that points out a benefit for dTPM to me

fair gull
#

the only benefit of dTPM is you can upgrade it to new protocol versions which fTPM may not always be able to

#

for example if they do a tpm 3.0 spec

mild dome
#

after giving it a brief read CVE-2025-49133 seems to be a bad example, it's a vulnerability on VM TPMs that apparently talk to the system of tcp/ip protocol, the other two seem valid to me though

fair gull
#

CVE 2025 is also based on the ref implementation though

#

the point is... everyone uses the ref implementation to implement their drivers/fTPM

#

so dTPM or fTPM doesnt really matter for software exploitability

ashen spindle
#

So after checking with people that know a whole lot more, seems like fTPM has some more side channels it could be vulnerable to but at the same time also runs on the PSP so it’s harder to reverse it than a dedicated one and isn’t affected by cpu side channel effects so difference is kinda moot

#

So it runs either on the psp or through pluton on mobile chips probably

reef patrol
#

PSP Mentioned

ashen spindle
#

So really no point getting a dTPM anymore

#

But eh no point arguing with IT if that’s what they want

fair gull
#

imo they should still provide laptops if they have such specific requirements

lunar elm
#

tehc

lunar elm
ashen spindle

Well it sounds like they are but the provided ones are shit lol thus the search for a better one

@astral haven @lyric hatch 18~50 on APS-C will be about 28~70 on FF? I can still cancel 18~50 and get Sigma 28~70 f2.8 full frame used for like half the price hanaIsee

issue is my old ram was also going back as it's not compatible, now I'll have to mail amazon again for that since it won't fit in the return window they gave me (ends in 11days) 😭
